CODE RED SEA LAUNCHED CODE RED SEA is an environmental initiative powered by Scuba
Dive Plus and Diver's Magazine. The first event for the initiative was hosted by the Promaster Dive Center in Hurghada at the Sea Gull Resort & Hotels. During the event, more than 50 divers cleaned underwater on the house reef, removing over 4 tons of litter and waste. The event was sponsored by HEPCA, Project Aware, Al Zahra Sweets in Hurghada, and Adwatak platform.

Code Red Sea Vision "A Red Sea full of life, where nature and people flourish." Code Red Sea Mission Cultural, social, and scientific awareness in order to support
marine life in the Red Sea and ways of sustainable development. This is through awareness of the harms of overfishing and the sustainable use of marine resources, dumping of waste into the Red Sea and its damage to marine life and the economic impact on the groups working in the marine and tourism field. The initiative will also work on holding activities to clean the seabed, awareness lectures, and to participate with scientific institutions to restore the prosperity of coral reefs in the Red Sea.

THE WORLD’S DEEPEST POOL OPENED IN POLAND The deepest pool in the world with a depth of 45 meters for scuba divers and free diving, opened in Poland, Eastern Europe, located 40 km from Warsaw. The swimming pool includes several training areas and includes artificial caves and sunken Maya ruin for
7
training in different environments, in addition to a small boat as an artificial wreck at a depth of 20
meters. Construction took two years, with a budget of 40 million Polish zlotys (about ÂŁ 8 million), and plans are under development for a hotel adjacent to the pool,
with underwater viewing areas. The swimming pool is primarily considered a recreational and free diving facility, but is expected to provide facilities for training military divers and public services such as the police and fire department. Diventures Magazine

Tragic Shark Accident in Egypt On 2nd December 2020, an oceanic whitefin shark attacked a German tourist. Investigations
revealed
that
a
43-year-old
German tourist was diving in the “Elphinstone" area and was attacked by an oceanic shark, and bites her in the shoulder area and was taken to
9
hospital for treatment. The accident occurred during a safety stop at a depth of 5 meters, and a diving guide was next to her, who dealt with the situation immediately
and responded quickly and pulled the lady away from the shark to the direction of the boat and intercepted the movement of the shark twice in a row until the rest of the group was able to climb
onto the boat and leave the site . Diventures Magazine

INTRO DIVING RESUMED IN SOUTH SAINAI The Environmental Affairs, through the Nature Protection Sector, took a
decision to resume the implementation of the intro diving activity for tourist establishments during cruises in some locations where the requirements for practicing the activity are met, in terms of the nature of the natural resources therein and the requirements for achieving the maximum degree of safety for practitioners of this activity in the natural reserves located in South Sinai starting from the beginning of December,
in response to the tourism sector, in coordination with the Ministry of
11
Tourism and Antiquities and the Governorate of South Sinai, and within the framework of the ministry's efforts to achieve sustainable development in the reserves, support eco-tourism activities, preserve natural resources and the tourism position of the region, on the one hand, with the support of workers in the tourism of marine activities. Dr. Yasmine Fouad, Minister of Environment, confirmed, in a statement, that the decision includes the return of the implementation of the intro diving activity (Intro. Dive & DSD) in a number of diving sites, namely (North Lagoon - South Lagoon - Temple - Electricity - Map - White Island) only. These sites were chosen after carrying out a number of field
studies and scientific surveys, and after making sure that they are distinguished by all the appropriate environmental requirements for diving sites to achieve the enjoyment of those involved in diving activities with natural resources. Diventures Magazine

MARINE LIFE
More than 300 species of shark and ray threatened with extinction IUCN REPORT New
assessments
by
the
International
Union
for
Conservation of Nature (IUCN) released this month show that 316 species of sharks and chimeras are now threatened with extinction. The Red List updates include more than 420 assessments of shark and ray species, of which 154 are classified as
23
"threatened" or at risk of extinction in the wild. Among them are four species of hammerhead sharks, and four species of endangered angel shark, making them one of the most threatened families of sharks, in addition to the giant manta ray, which now faces an extremely high risk of extinction.
Our ocean is in crisis due to pollution, climate change and the overexploitation of marine life on a large scale. Sharks are among the hardest hit by overfishing. The numbers continue to decline, yet more than 1,000 species of sharks
and rays play various major roles in marine ecosystems, intertwining the health of our surroundings and the people who depend on them. Diventures Magazine

DIVE MIDICENE
DOLPHINS TAKES DCI PRECAUTIONS The difference between DCI and DCS Decompression sickness, or DCI, is a term used to describe disease caused by a decrease in the surrounding pressure. A good example of this happens to your body when you surf up after a dive. DCI includes two diseases, DCS and AGE. DCS is caused by the growth of bubbles in the tissues and causing local damage, while AGE results from entering the bubbles into the blood circulation in the lung, moving through the arteries and causing tissue damage by blocking the flow of blood at the level of small blood vessels. Dolphins and the DCI
25
Researchers at the Oceanographic Foundation in Valencia, Spain, have reevaluated the idea that only human divers are at risk of contracting DCI. Comparative physiologist Andreas Fhalman and his team trained captive bottle-nosed dolphins to take long or short dives as required, and used an ECG to measure their heart rate adjustments. To prepare for a longer dive, the dolphins lowered the rate further and faster than the dive for a shorter period. They will empty a portion of their lungs to direct the flow of air or blood to the areas under pressure, effectively keeping more oxygen and limiting nitrogen intake.
Fhalman believes that an action is not a reaction but an action that dolphins have consciously learned. "Basically they can get on and off the throttle when they want to," he said. The concern is that this control mechanism could be negatively affected by the stress of sonar signals or industrial noise underwater.
