A MESSAGE FROM THE
HOW’S IT GLIDING MANTAS? Hellooooo! How are you guys? Personally, I am not having a great time at the moment. So so so sorry for publishing this month’s edition super late. Regardless, I hope you are all living it up, to the best of your ability! As this term comes to a close, I like to reflect on all the memories I’ve made this term. Even though it was all virtual, I honestly really enjoyed myself. Above all, being DNE was and still is such an honor. Even though these newsletters give me so much pain while I make them, seeing the completed product and the reaction from you guys makes it all worth it. As we transition to the new term, I have such bittersweet feelings. Seeing the end of my Key Club career is satisfying, but also really sad. I don’t think I’m quite ready to let this family go. Every experience I’ve made in Key will stay with me forever and has become such a big part of who I am. But it’s time to take these experiences and move onto a new chapter in life! Anyways, thanl you so much for reading (even though this is hecka late). You guys are all super cool <3

What’s Poppin’ Manta Rays!

I can’t believe the term is already coming to an end! It feels like I was elected only a few months ago. It’s bittersweet to think about retiring from a club that has defined my four years in high school, but I wouldn’t trade this experience for anything. I am so grateful for all of the hardworking officers and members that I serve in this division. YOU have always been the reason I work so hard and I am eternally grateful for Division 15 East. This past month has been full of stress with many different submissions (Member Recognition Program, final AAR scores, Division Contests, Distinguished officers, and other district contests), but I am SO proud of everyone for working so hard to receive the recognition you deserve! Although next term will be quite a change with the realignment into East and South, I know that you will be in good hands. We’ve already surpassed our service hour goal, so the next step is hitting our PTP donation goal!! For the next two months together, let’s go out with a BANG Manta Rays!
Gliding in Service,
A MESSAGE FROM YOUR
It’s ya girl, Zoe, your 2021-22 elected LTG! I am so honored and excited to serve you all this upcoming term! This has honestly been a dream of mine since freshman year, and I still cannot believe it is happening. Division 15 East means the absolute world to me, and I am ready to take us to new heights. I hope to host a bunch of fun service projects, inspire old and new members, create bonds with all our Kiwanis Family branches, strengthen our passion to its greatest potential, and leave a strong, long-lasting impact on the community. Together, let’s work together to reach these awesome goals, while also having an enjoyable time! I am here to represent YOU! Do not hesitate to contact me, for YOU can tell me your concerns, give feedback, or tell me how your week has been. I am your friend first before a LTG, talk to me about anything. I am super hyped to work with you all next term, and I certainly cannot contain my excitement. Let’s keep swimming, Manta Rays!
Gliding in Service, Zoe Quitasol

CLUB UPDATES
Our VP, Annie Jin, planned a Dog Toys Service Event Friday, January 26 th , and a Drop-Off drive Saturday, January 27 th for our members and officer board to attend to. Our club earned around a total of 60 hours from the event. All donations went to Mary S. Roberts.
Emilee Gip Historian|Roosevelt
This month, we participated in the Color-A-Smile service project. Members colored various coloring pages to send to senior citizens, troops overseas, and anyone in need of a smile. We then collected the pages on a collection day at Harada Park.
MATH FOR Michelle Chang Historian|King
This month, our additional service event was to solve math problems for UNICEF through the website <www.unicefusa.org/math-quiz> where members completed math questions under a timer of one minute. Every 30 minutes of game time equates to one hour of service to account for the time it takes to log and provide proof of each minute. This service event is completely digital and anyone with internet access was able to participate. We chose this event to contribute to UNICEF through means besides directly donating money, as we cannot assure that everyone has the funds to do so. Therefore, this was a fun way to a fun way to donate while strengthening the math skills of our members. It wouldn’t have been possible without the help of our officer team in creating and sharing the post and directions with the club and also the members for participating. The total hours for this event were 13 hours or 390 rounds of math quizzes.

In January, the Notre Dame Key Club held an event with Circle K at UCR via Zoom, it was our “ND x UCR Plarning Event”. During this event, we plarned with plastic bags and bonded with each other. Plarning is basically plastic and yarning. You use recyclable plastic bags to create something new, such as floor mats, bags, and much more! Plarning is a great activity to relax and ease stress. Not only did we just plarned during this event, but we also played virtual Pictionary-which was tons of fun- and got the opportunity to ask some questions to the college students. Those who participated in the event were able to receive 1.5 hours of service. With all the plarn we made, we then mailed it to Circle K’s board members to add to their items that they are making out of plarn. Through this event, many were introduced to a new and fun activity, and we all had a great time while being safe!

On January 16th , 2021 ERHS Key Club had their monthly street clean up. But this time it was partnered with the City of Eastvale! This was hosted by the newly elected mayor, Jocelyn Yow, who started Eastvale Community Clean-Up Day! This service project was a great way to give back to our community and connect with our city board officers.

On January 29, Centennial Key Club ran the Icy Icee Icebreaker Social. The event lasted from 5:00 to 6:40pm. We played various icebreakers and games including Karaoke, Spyfall, Scavenger Hunt, and Never Have I Ever with our members and had a great time. By the end of our social, the officers held officer/committee dares, where whichever member gained the most points throughout the event had the opportunity to dare one of our officers and committee members. Our social was extremely successful! We had around 20 members attend, and received many positive comments about the event from attendees afterwards.

ON SERVICE WHAT IS A SERVICE HOUR? RECAP ON WHAT SOSP IS!
A service hour is any hour of service performed by an individual Key Club member with the approval of his/ her club’s board of directors. This means that service hours should only be given based on the amount of time spent actively working!
Spotlight on Service is a program created by the Service Projects Committee to promote and encourage service initiatives. The monthly guides released will provide tips and ideas on how to complete the initiatives proposed for that month. The program also provides the opportunity for clubs to showcase their service events, at a District level. By participating you could get District recognition!
BACKGROUND Kiwanis is an international organization, dedicated to improving the lives. There are more than 500,000 members, from K-kids to Key Club, all part of the Kiwanis Family. We find unique ways to serve, ranging from community clean ups to fighting hunger.

Have your Key Club host your sponsoring Kiwanis Club’s meeting in a Kiwanis Takeover! Work with your local K-Kids to answer simple math questions for UNICEF. Every correct answer is $0.25 for children’s education. Host a book sale with your Kiwanis club to fundraise. Have member donate books that are in good condition and follow Safekey guidelines. Host a jeopardy event with your Kiwanis over Zoom. Fundraise by having an entrance fee, and offer a prize for the winner!
This month on Keepin’ Up with the Manta Rays, we’re introducing...
APRIL LONH
with the
What was YOUR Key Club moment? I realized I truly loved Key Club when I began to get more active at DCM’s and wanted to experience this organization to it’s fullest! At the December DCM in 2019, I made some of my closest friends in Key Club and made the most fun memories of us falling on the ice! Making friends and being able to connect with others through Key Club allowed me to really express myself!
How has Key Club impacted you? Key Club has been a creative outlet to express my love, passions, and strengths into one. Every aspect of Key Club including members, service, spirit and more has made grow into the leader and individual I am today! Because of this living community, I don’t shy away from taking initiative and have grown to call this division my family.
a junior at centennial high school! Introduce yourself! Hello Manta Rays! My name is April Lonh and I serve as your Head Spirit Coordinator. I’ve been in Key Club for three years and every moment has made me the happiest I can be. I love meeting new people and making new friends so don’t be afraid to reach out! <3
Anything you want to add? You’re amazing! If you ever need a hug, a sign, a boost of support, I am always here for you! <3
