Vanessa’s Goals

Yearlong goals

Goals for May

• Increase Communication by way of emails, phone calls, and snail mail- to reduce confusion • INCREASE DIVISIONAL SPIRIT!!!! • Visit each club AT LEAST twice • Have 100% reporting from all 8 clubs throughout the year • Help charter at least 1 new club in the K-Family within the division • Have ALL 8 clubs submit early bird dues • Have 1 super rockin’ Division wide function! • Attend as many Kiwanis DCMs as possible -hopefully all of them if circumstances permit • Have club officers- primarily Presidents and Vice Presidents attend as many Kiwanis DCMs as possible- this will be a great time for us to meet up in a central location so that I can answer any questions you may have that might be difficult to communicate over email or a phone call

• Have a majority of the Division at STC • Win the spirit stick at STC • Get Divisional t-shirts ordered • Schedule a club visit with each club for sometime between now and the end of summer- invite me to any meetings or service projects you are having and I will do my best to be there! • Plan a PCM for the summer- if you have suggestions shoot me an email! • See some of you at the May Kiwanis DCM!

Bibles for the Blind Every Wednesday after school, a group of our Key Clubbers heads over to St. Paul Lutheran Church to make Braille Bibles. We each take a job in the assembly line, either filling the page templates with paper, putting the template in the wooden sleeve, running the sleeve through the presser machine, handing the paper to the page compiler, or placing the pages in order on the Bible spine. Our club usually has more people than these jobs require, so we often have more than one person at each station. It is truly a team effort that takes efficiency and careful attention to detail. Though we try reach a new record time each week for making a complete book of the Bible (our current record is 4 minutes 17 seconds), it is important for us to ensure that the work we do is good quality and there aren’t any mistakes. After all, these Bibles are going to blind people in countries all over the world, and we don’t want to be the reason for any out-of-order pages in them! Sometimes fast-paced and crazy, and sometimes relaxed and involving food, making Braille Bibles is our most popular consistent service project, and is a great way to feel that our club is giving back to the community.

Dirty Scurry Mud Run This past weekend, we volunteered at the Dirty Scurry, a mud run for kids that raises money for Cook Children’s Medical Center. Most of us helped out in the kids’ area before and after the race, and some of us were stationed along the course. Those of us in the kids’ area alternated between face painting and monitoring the inflatable slide, and those on the course helped to direct the runners where to go. The kids told us all about going through the obstacle course through mud, and came back completely covered in it! It was a really enjoyable project, and we look forward to volunteering again next year.

Fundraising ideas • 50/50 raffle- have people buy raffle tickets you keep one end they keep the other, then draw a random ticket out of the ones you kept and that’s the winner! The winner gets half of the money collected from selling tickets and you give half to the ELIMINATE project! • Bake Sale- have club members bring different baked goods from cakes to pies to breads to cookies and cupcakes! Have something for everyone’s price range! Also consider selling drinks to wash down those scrumptious baked goods! • Buckets for Babies- have club members go around town and ask local businesses if they would be willing to let you place a bucket in their business to collect donations. Explain what the ELIMINATE project is to the business owner and then decorate buckets also explaining what it is! • Yard Sale- this is a great opportunity to make your Key Clubbers’ parents happy, have them CLEAN OUT THEIR ROOM! Collect all of the unwanted items from the Key Clubbers and set them up for sale. Remember, one man’s trash is another man’s treasure!
