We are almost a month into 2013 and that means that there are even more opportunities to perform community service and raise money for different causes! In this issue, please pay attention to the section on LTC, the Booklet of Merits and the paperwork update. Please take a look at the Booklet of Merits Please take some time to read through this newsletter carefully. Let me know if you have any questions! Yours in friendship and service, Josh Hill Lt. Governor
Greeting from Josh Did you know that the New York District of Key Club International has a website? Well, yes it does! And it’s filled with all the information you need to succeed in Key Club and make your club even stronger. It also helps you get to know your District Board and so much more! If you have time, take a look and browse around and subscribe to the District (e-mailing) Mailing List! http://nydkc.org/
Hurricane Sandy Relief This may not seem like the most pressing issue for people in our area anymore as the damage has already been cleaned up and taken care of, but, many people on Long Island are still hurting and suffering from the aftermath of the storm. There are ways you can still help the many families who are in need of support, especially as the bulk of the snow for 2013 hits the Northeast United States. Perhaps the easiest (and one of the most effective) ways of helping is by making a donation to the New York District Kiwanis Foundation. Please let me know if your club or anyone you know would like to make a donation!
Leadership Training Conference 2013 Also commonly known as LTC is the annual conference in which 700 members of the New York District of Key Club International gather to celebrate the year of service and excellence they just helped out in creating. While there, you meet many new people and forge many new friendships. It is always exciting to see all the new people and sometimes see some old friends; there is never a dull moment when it comes to the 3 day event in March (specifics are below). The conference includes workshops, dances, social sessions, entertainment, rooming, meals, general sessions and above all, an experience you will never forget! I cannot describe in words all the wonderful experiences you will see; you have to see it to believe it! Once someone leaves convention, they leave with a smile that will not leave for hours; after attending, you will have a new found appreciation for Key Club, trust me! Check out the conference website for more info: http://conference.nydkc.org/home.htm Who: all of New York District Key Club (advisors and members alike!) What: Leadership Training Conference (one of the greatest conferences you will attend ever) When: March 22-24, 2013 Where: Holiday Inn on Wolf Road in Albany, NY Why: It’s a fun experience and something no Key Clubber should ever have to miss out on! How: contact LTG Josh or your advisor A.S.A.P. for information! Registration starts soon and space fills up fast! Cost: $260 per student (3-4 students/room (same gender)) $310 per adult (2 adults/room (same gender)) $500 per adult (1 adult/room) The price is not meant to discourage you from attending! Ask your advisor on an appropriate way to pay for convention; they have all the information for this!
Booklet of Merits The Booklet of Merits is the list of all the awards, recognitions and contests Key Club has to offer. It can be found on the Conference website (listed above, but I will give a direct link here) on the side bar. Please take a look through it and see if your club is eligible for any of the awards. I know that some clubs are eligible and should strongly consider it. http://conference.nydkc.org/book-of-merits.htm

Running for Higher Office In the coming couple months, it should be time for some of you underclassmen to think about running for higher office. Lieutenant Governor: This is the position I have held for the previous 2 terms and I have enjoyed every minute of it! This position includes travelling to Albany for meetings (expense free on your part), e-mailing the clubs, going to District and possibly International Convention and much more! It is a very fun experience that I hope someone does not miss out on it. I have heard from multiple advisors who have suggested some of you. This is open to all underclassmen, especially those with a passion of helping other! Let me know if you’re interested by February 4th. District Secretary: This position is in part like the club secretary, however, they are also in charge of the District Directory and collecting and compiling the totals and MRFs from each club. District Treasurer: This person helps with the dues process and organizing the FRF information that comes in and work with the administrator when coming to FRF monetary information.

1) Volunteer at a local nursing home. Contact their volunteer or special event coordinator, they are usually happy to have extra hands around with games, crafts and cooking. Also, this can help with hours for the Governor’s Project. 2) When the snow begins to melt, arrange a park clean up to pick up all the debris put there over the winter 3) Special Olympics: February is when they have the most events and the State Games are being held in Rochester this year: http://www.nyso.org/calendar.php
