A LETTER FROM YOUR

LTG

HAPPY NEW YEARS!

I hope you all enjoyed your Winter Break, Christmas, and now New Years! The school grind is going to start up once again (especially for all the procrastinators out there) and the realization that SCHOOL IS HALFWAY TO BEING DONE will hit. As a junior myself, I often think to myself, “wow”. I’m almost a senior and soon after that I’m gonna be going to college. The idea of that is so strange to me especially because it felt just like yesterday I was stepping on to my school’s campus for the first time as an incoming freshman. When I think of this, it usually comes with questions: What have I done from the beginning until now? How have I changed as a person? Have my actions made an impact on anyone? While we get back into the flow of the new year and returning to school, ask yourself: What have I not done yet? or Do I have any regrets? It is a mere month until my baby/elect will be announced, and only a couple after that for the end of the 2017-18 term and beginning of the 2018-19. While we still have this time together, think of what you have left that you want to do. It may be something small like talk to this one person, or something larger like run for a position. Whatever it may be, just make sure not to leave this term without any regrets. On a final note, remember that all of you are loved and appreciated every day. I can never fully express how much I love to serve all of you as your Mama Tiger and how proud you all have made me in these past 9 months. Let’s give these last 3(ish) months one final push and end this term strong! ILY ALL <3

DCM

Some members and I worked on the December DCM backdrop for a week and created a Winter Wonderland background. We all gathered in the art room and drew on a huge poster. After sketching the image, we painted it. It turned out really nice and suited the theme.

FOOD PANTRY 10

We were helping out at the local food pantry. We assembled bags of food to distribute to those who were there. It was a very simple job but it was fun to work alongside Kiwanis members and see how grateful everyone is for what they receive.

- OSCAR RODRIGUEZ, MARINA MEMBER

On November 21st, my home club had a service event at the Epiphany

Church. We teamed up with fellow church and community members to help pass out food before Thanksgiving. My experience there was extremely enjoyable because I got to help people in my community. My favorite part was being able to assist people on carrying their food and the satisfaction of knowing that they now have food for Thanksgiving.

- HUYEN LE, MARINA MEMBER 11

KEY LEADER

I attended Key Leader for the first time this year. I had always wanted to go but never had the courage or the funds to attend. This year, I was lucky enough to receive sponsorship from Kiwanis. I didn’t really have an idea of what I was getting myself into. I was told I would learn a lot and have a great time. My expectations were well met. When we got there, we met a lot of people right away. Everyone was really awkward so we were given an ice breaker where we were somewhat forced to socialize

12

and ask each other questions. It was a fun way to get people to start talking to each other. Up next was dinner; the food was really good. It was the same food as RTC and just as good. The breakfast, lunch, and dinner the next two days tasted amazing as well. Throughout the weekend, we had various lectures on how to improve our leadership. The head facilitator had an insane amount of energy; it kept me engaged and interested no matter how little sleep I had. On the second day, we took part in a Challenge

Course. We were forced into teams where we accomplished various tasks for us to work together. However, each challenge took different ways of thinking and challenged us as a team. After each one, our instructor showed us the lessons we learned instinctively. Lastly, one of the best parts of Key Leader was the amazing people I met. I made a lot of great friends who I hope to meet at future events. Spending the weekend with them will be a great memory. Key Leader will no doubt be an unforgettable experience. I hope to attend again next year.

SMALL STEPS San Benito Key Club had the fun opportunity to participate at the 20th annual Small Steps shopping trip hosted in Hollister, California on November 4th, 2017. The shopping trip paired deserving local children with community volunteers to shop for warm clothing and shoes at Target and Payless stores. Each child is given $100 in which they can use to buy any necessary items for the winter. The event began at six in the morning until noon. Some of the services San Benito helped was with registration, removing price tags, handing out books or breakfasts, and volunteering as a shopper. The event was not only a success, but it was also a very fun experience. Personally,, it felt heartwarming to see the children in need be very excited to receive something they could not afford, because I recount when I was once one of them too. We hope to participate next year and be part of this life-changing event.

- ANAI MURILLO-GONZALEZ, SAN BENITO SECRETARY 15

T N E M A N R U O T GOLF 16

It was a very long tiring day but I was really glad to bond with my fellow key clubbers and meet new people. Even though it was long and sort of boring, I got to help out, spend more time with my friends, and get a free jacket. Sadly, this was my last year, but I would do it again next year.

EDITOR’S NOTE

H APPY N EW Y EAR !! It’s officially 2018!! I’m both excited for another year but hesitant because I’ll have to face senior year and life after high school. Whichever it is, I’m definitely happy I got to enjoy winter break with my loved ones. I hope your winter break was enjoyable as well!! Remember to take a care of yourself and surround yourself in positive vibes! However, the new year also means this term is coming close to an end. I hope this year in Key Club has been fulfilling and a great experience for you all. Not to be too sappy but I’m so proud and happy for the division thus far in the term. A lot of the successes wouldn’t have been possible if it weren’t for the people that make up our division. As always thank you for any articles/visuals for this issue!! I’m still in love with creating this newsletter so anything is greatly appreciated. Anyways, I hope that your 2018 is the best yet; try and make the best of it!! See you in the next one! ( ˘▽˘)っ♨
