A LETTER FROM YOUR

LTG

AS OF FEBRUARY 3RD, I GAVE BIRTH TO THE NEXT MAMA TIGER! When you have the time, make sure to congratulate Vy Dang from Marina for being elected as YOUR next Lt. Governor! Woo! The reality that this is all coming to a close has begun to hit me, and it makes me sad to think that my last DCM is this month, as well as this being my second to last LTG Letter to you all. It feels weird to think that, in just a little over a month from today, I’ll be deemed as “irrelevant”. I’ll save more of the simping for my final letter and our banquet (May 20th! Save the date!), so I’ll stop here now regarding that. We have a busy month ahead of us all as we try to accomplish all our goals and finish those assignments so that Spring Break can truly feels like a break (unless you have those teachers). Thought being proactive and productive is important, make sure you all take of yourselves! When I see you at division events, I don’t want to see you looking like a zombie! Let’s end this term with a bang everyone and remember, you are always loved and appreciated for all that you do ♡

Hello Tigers! My name is Vy Dang and I am your Lieutenant Governor Elect for the 2018-2019 term. I am beyond grateful for this opportunity to serve Division 43. I am currently a junior at Marina High School. I joined Key Club my freshman year and have been involved with this since. I served as Marina Club secretary and M N T Ta s k C o o r d i n a t o r m y sophomore year and I currently serve as an Executive Assistant for the division. As Lieutenant Governor, my goals are to hold at least one division-wide service or fundraiser event per quarter, have at least 200 dues paid members, and raise $1000 for the PTP, and $500 for MNT. I plan to accomplish these goals with the best of my abilities and hope that we can work together to do so. Thank you for entrusting me to serve you all as your Lieutenant Governor. I can’t wait to see what this term has in store for us! Warm Wishes,

VY DANG 7

BEAUTIFYING THE

SPORTS CENTER

At the Los Arboles Sports Complex baseball field, we helped repaint a building. A few members and I were assigned to paint the side of the building. Aside from painting, one of our members was assigned to h e l p s w e e p a ro u n d t h e bleachers. Doing this on a Saturday afternoon was very nice and fun, and I’m glad that I was able to be a part of this event.

FIRE ALARM INSTALLATION

10 12

The Red Cross Fire Alarm Installation was really fun and interesting to do. When we first got there, the firefighters served us breakfast, including bagels, donuts, and more. Once everyone arrived, we were split up into teams with a leader and 3-4 other volunteers. We were given a map and had to go to different sections of Seaside. The volunteers and I performed different

jobs including writing down information and informing the people about the installation process. Overall, I learned more about fire safety and got to interact with my community, as well as help those in need.

food fair

The food fair was a great experience. We did bubbly drinks and made about $150 from selling those drinks. The money we raised is going towards DCON. I am very proud of how far we have come towards DCON. I hope we can continue to raise more for DCON.

Korean BBQ

The Korean BBQ stand was surprisingly successful. It was nice to see long lines of students waiting for our food. Although it did take a long time to prepare, it was still worth it seeing other students satisfied with our on-the-spot Korean BBQ stand.

On January 27th, five key clubbers from San Benito were up early to volunteer at a service event. San Juan Bautista held their annual 5k Race near the mission and students were there to help the organizers with tasks that needed to be done by volunteers. Thanks to Interact, we had gotten in contact with the organizers to see if we could be of assistance at the event. Our members were then signed up to pass out waters at the event. As members waited in what seemed to be in the middle of nowhere for quite some time, runners began to approach. Members passed out waters to runners of all ages and cleaned up trash that was left behind. Although we may have only had five members in attendance, the organizers were pleased with our will to help at the event, thanking us and Interact who had offered more than enough help at the event.

The morning of January 27th was a cold one, yet this did not stop the swarm of determined runners from toeing the line at the 35th annual Mission Ten Run in San Juan Bautista. The event, set up by the Rotary Club of Hollister offers several different races including a mile run for the younger

participants, the 5k, the ten mile, and the half-marathon, all in which are available for runners with varying abilities, goals, and ages. The race does not stay exclusively local, as runners from all over California, including King City, Turlock, and Los Gatos all come out to run. What made this race so great was that all proceeds from the race go directly back to the community in the form of scholarships for students. And with an approximate 600 runner turnout, you’d best believe that more scholarships for students will become available. Being a volunteer at this race was an incredible experience, which I credit to the positive atmosphere and attitudes of both the runners and volunteers. Myself being a volunteer, showed up at 7:30 AM along with several other members from San Benito High School’s Key and Interact Club. Together, we all piled into the back of pickup trucks and headed to the water stations. As the first race commenced, my fellow group of volunteers waited for the first runner from the 5K to appear. As runners started making their way to the water station, I was inspired by just how many people were out there trying to run their best and just as equally surprised to see many others having so much fun. If you were

to ask the average person, they would say that running is hard and most do not enjoy it, so seeing people hitting new personal records and pushing past the pain to get to the finish was an amazing thing to watch. Others, who were there for the fun of it, simply had a great time running and walking with their family and friends. Some people also ran with their dogs and several moms were out there pushing their babies in strollers. There were so many young kids taking on the longer runs like the ten mile and half marathon and an equally impressive amount of older folks running the half marathon as well. The best part of volunteering was seeing how much people appreciated the help. Every runner gave me a smile and so many thanked me for coming out and helping, knowing I had made a much needed positive experience. Overall, my experience volunteering at the Mission Ten race was an extremely positive, eye opening, and inspiring experience. I will be back next year for sure!

Winter homecoming This event was not necessarily of service but it was a chance to advertise Key Club to the students of our school. During the rally of our school’s Winter Homecoming, we have a parade of shopping carts in which clubs can enter a cart that they decorate according to the theme. This year’s theme was Disney fairytales. Naturally, our club decided to theme our cart on the magical objects from Beauty and the Beast because of how these objects help Belle and the Beast,

we as a club help our community. Our club spent two days working on painting the signs for our cart and we later assembled the cart on the day of the rally. Then, members who were available walked the cart wearing division shirts if they had them and tossed candy to students in the bleachers. This was a fun event for members to participate in and to advertise Key Club to the school.

Conclave Recap

This year’s Conclave was in Silicon Valley Technical Institute. It was a nice change of location. First we had our caucus to cote on our LTG. Out caucus session was in conjunction with D12S. We were able to see both candidates’ speeches. Both show potential to lead their division well as their predecessors. We had a lot of spare time after each of our DCMs and Caucus as they went quickly, so we spent the time doing icebreakers and telling really bad puns. It was a great

24

experience seeing the elections and meeting some old friends.

- MARTIN TANSECO, MARINA PRESIDENT For San Benito, we had six club members overall in attendance at Conclave 2018. There were some members who had been to Conclave before and others were experiencing their first ever Conclave. The day presented us with excitement, as we were about to elect our new

Lieutenant G o v e r n o r. . We listened to what our candidate had to say, then our delegates placed their votes. Later, we then held our DCM but this was a joint DCM with Division 12 South. After, we then listened to a wonderful guest speaker who talked to us about her Key Club and Circle K experience and how it has helped her in life. Then we were announced that Vy Dang was our Division LTG Elect, which many members were excited for to see how she will do with her position. Overall, this was a great event to prepare for the future term and to reconnect with members from Division 43 and other divisions in Region 17. L i e u t e n a n t G o v e r n o r. - REBECA LAGUNA, SAN BENITO PRESIDENT

My first Conclave was definitely a memorable experience full of joyous and pleasant moments. The duration of the event was, in my opinion, golden; it was an opportunity to meet new people especially when we did the icebreakers with Division 12 South. I was intrigued by both lieutenant governors’ friendly introductions and I was excited for the event to begin. I enjoyed hearing the candidate’s speeches, voting of the division representatives, eating lunch (delicious sandwiches and cookies), the division

meeting along with a Division 12S (chance for an exchange of ideas), and most anticipated of all: the announcement of the new LTGs. Our club and District, in general, have been doing great this term and I wish the best of luck to the newly elected Lt. Governors in hopes for another successful term.

A recap of

Key To College For the January DCM, it was in UC Santa Cruz. We attended the event called Key to College in which we were able to learn more about college. The students gave us a tour around their campus and also talked about their Circle K club! It was very interesting hearing about it and how it was like for them as college students.

EDITOR’S NOTE

Happy March! Another month, another newsletter!! So many things are coming to an end: the school year, my will to keep doing AP work, my stability as I think more about the future, my newsletters, and of course, the KEY CLUB TERM! I hope this semester has been treating you well and you’re accomplishing a lot of things, whether that be life related, school related, or key club related. I’m trying not to get too sentimental since it’s not my official last newsletter yet, so I’m saving it,.,. just wait. But believe me, I’m anticipating it the closer we inch through the months. Regardless, I’ve been trying to keep up with my responsibilities and I hope you’re doing the same!! There were tons of things to include in this newsletter and I LOVED getting so many submissions this month!!! Am a very happy DNE and thoroughly enjoyed how this newsletter turned out despite it being a little hard to get done. As always, thank you for submitting and I’m wishing you a great March. Remember to take care of yourself <3 See you in the next one! ( ˘▽˘)っ♨
