At the Santa Cruz Beach Boardwalk, we hosted a beach clean up. Although there wasn’t much trash on the ground, we still managed to get a decent amount of trash. We separated into two groups and worked together. Some even sacrificed their clothes to walk across the small river to get to the other side to collect more trash. Overall, this was a successful event.

- SHELBY DO, MARINA TREASURER 9

DCM BACKDROP

For the backdrop preparation, members and I sketched and painted on a poster. It was easier to get most of it done since we had members helping out on different days. This backdrop was a huge set for our banquet.

Relay For Life

12

The Relay For Life was pretty fun. Even though I didn't go to the Saturday clean up, it was dope to see how big the foundation was. It was cool to know that we helped out and volunteered for a great foundation.

T c i r t S i D cOnvention

This year was my first time going to DCON and I have to say, it was amazing! The trip was worth every penny. I experienced so much in the short three days, especially the workshops I went to. We got to cheer our lives out for our new LTG. I miss DCON and I can't wait to attend next year.

- VICKE TRAN, MARINA VICE PRESIDENT My first DCON was a very fulfilling experience and I'm so glad I was able to attend. It was a very surreal experience

16

being able to scream my heart out, meet extremely passionate people, and become closer with my home club and division. The highlight of that weekend, and possible my time in the entire 2017-18 term, was getting a distinguished award for my division newsletter. I distinctly remember being very stressed out prior to the awards ceremony. However, when I heard my name announced and I walked on stage, I felt an overwhelming sentimentality. Serving as DNE alongside the

leadership team is something I wouldn't trade for the world and I’m glad I got to grow, learn, and invest myself further this past term. DCON made me realize how valuable Key Club and all the

bonds and memories it's provided are to me.

- KATELEEN ALCANTARA, MARINA MEMBER District Convention 2018: a bittersweet moment for me.

2 01 8 of over a thousand Key Clubbers from all over the district. With our distinct hats, we were able to assist those that needed it to their r o o m s , registration, or some of the activities they could do such as meeting the candidates! The day went by in a blur and soon Saturday came.

Following old board events Thursday evening, the 2017-18 board entered Friday with tons of nerves as we awaited the arrival

Saturday was honestly a struggle, With just about a dozen candidates for the three e x e c u t i v e positions, it was a stressful time. I could only imagine how it felt for those waiting for General Session 3. For those that applied for Distinguished Lt. Governor, this was the time we would find out whether we were successful or not. At the same time, this would also be when we discover who the 2 0 1 8 - 1 9 Executives would be. Throughout d i n n e r, my stomach was just a bundle of nerves and I could barely eat anything without feeling I was about to throw up. Time finally came for us to head backstage and decide our

fate, and words cannot describe my shock when I saw a backstage pass in my envelope. I started crying right there and then with my fellow Lt. Governors. Jittery was how I felt as I waited to go backstage. My favorite moment from this DCON will be when I went on stage, standing alongside the other Lt. Gover nors who were also recognized, and hearing Division 43 cheer my name. They were my motivation to push through the hard times and I wouldn't have been able to be up there without t h e m . Immediately following this was t h e announcement of the executives, and hearing Jonathan Lum be announced as District Governor brought out another round of tears - only a lot harder than before.

crying. Hearing past District G o v e r n o r A n g e l i c a ' s speech brought tears to my eyes and nearly broke my heart. Between LTG Roselyn and Ryan, I cried, and cried, and cried. It was hard for the old board to stop as time came for us to stand on stage for one last time. As soon as Kiwanis governor Joni Acker man said the word "retirement, the last tears we tried to hold in all came out again. T o g e t h e r, w e hugged as we watched our final clips as LTGs. Despite the 2017-18 term being over and my time as Lt. Governor having ended, I will always be proud to say that I served as Division 43's small but fierce mama tiger!!
