ltg’s letter
Hey now, hey noooow! THIS IS WHAT DREAAAMS ARE MADE OF.
I hope you all enjoyed Region Training Conference and Fall Rally North. It truly makes me happy to see all of you have fun while meeting new people and bonding with friends. I remember attending RTC and FRN for the first time and they were truly life changing experiences in my Key Club Journey. In all honesty, I do not believe I would be serving as Lieutenant Governor if it wasn’t for these events. I’m so sad these were my last events, and I will not be able to be there in the future. But, I hope the memories you made inspire you to continue going and bring new friends each year. If you’re like me and want to run for a position because of these events, look out for more information soon about Candidate Training Conference & Conclave! Can you believe its November already? As excited as I am for the holiday season, with twinkling lights, ice skating, gifts, and constantly singing Baby Its Cold Outside, I still need to get through this month because…college apps. Shout out to my fellow seniors that will be trying to balance not only college applications but school, Key Club, friends, family, and sleep. Please remember to take care of yourself and get rest because it’s important to treat yourself. If you can, have days where you only focus on one thing; maybe one day will be specifically for studying, another for college apps, then resting and sleeping in the next day. Don’t forget to keep your goals in mind, however, and always work hard. To my underclassmen, keep working hard and take advantage of sleep please LOL. They lied when they said senior year was easy.

“My experience at RTC was one I will never forget. Not only did I get a better understanding of what Key Club is about, but I also learned a lot of other alternatives that I would be interested in learning more about during the key note session. Aside from making friendships with Key Clubbers from all around my district, the best part of RTC in my opinion was the activities I took part in. Overall it was a fun experience and I’m definitely looking forward to attending again next year. “ - Dominic Kausin Seaside Member

“Up on ar riv al , the L T Gs explained what we will be doing in RTC and they gave us a schedule on when and where the events are happening. Also, they gave us a scavenger hunt we could do to win a “secret prize.” All we had to do was talking to the LTGs and do the assigned tasks.
After the opening ceremony, we had multiple events that included what key club is, what key club does, and how Key Club helps others by raising money for charities such as PTP. All of us were assigned to groups. My group was the Incredibles. We also made a chant. I was chosen to support the poster of Jasia with her funny looking facial expression, and it was very fun to hold up.
The last thing I remember is how sad everyone was about leaving RTC even though they had their voices gone from yelling so loudly. RTC was really fun. The skits were really fun to do. I learned a lot about Key Club. The food was worth every penny. The people I met were very kind, and next time I go, I will bring cough drops. - Gabriel Ellison Marina Member

beach don’t kill my vibe - Marissa Lewellen // York Webmaster
On September 17, 2016, we assisted in beautifying a beach in the Salinas River Wildlife Refuge and learned about the unique native species that live there. Along with other volunteer members from the Monterey community, the club helped pick up lots of trash, many of it being variations of plastics. We learned that plastic debris is obviously very detrimental to the ocean's marine species, but it can also be hazardous to the native bird species like the Snowy Plover that use plastic found on the beach to make their nests. When birds have nests made out of plastic, it often affects the health of the babies and makes it easier for predatory birds and other animals to spot the nest and kill the young. Fortunately, we got to collect a large amount of plastic as well as other common trash from humans like food containers. Overall, the beach cleanup was not only fun for the club to participate in, but it also ended for our members too and was a great success.

P i e for PTP - Leanne Bagood // Marina President
Pie for PTP was such a huge success, both financially AND in overall atmosphere! Setting it up and starting the activity was slow, but it quickly built up in participation. Sadly, for the teachers, more and more students kept buying plates of whip cream to throw at them. One student even bought 12 plates just to split between TWO teachers. I really enjoyed this event because not only did we raise $100, but it brought the school together to help a cause.

Seaside’s P T P WEEK - Arianne Delione // Seaside Member Seaside Key Club hosted a PTP Week to spread awareness and fundraise for the Pediatric Trauma Program. I thought that PTP week was really fun! I really enjoyed helping raise money by paying for the ribbons being sold. It was also fun watching our very own Key Club Officers get pied and water balloons get thrown at teachers such as Dewitt, Quenga, and Sergeant First Class Miller! 11
My experience at the Labor Day parade was fantastic! It was my first time walking in the Labor Day parade, and there was a lot of people in this event. I even saw someone with a Pikachu costume and it made my day! Walking down Reservation Road was the coolest feeling ever because I got to see people waving while taking pictures and kids cheering! After the parade, there was a festival at Vince DiMaggio Park, and it was awesome! I had a great time there. Also, the big bouncy house obstacle was crazy fun! I’ve got to admit; the obstacle was pretty hard! I would love to participate this event again.

Planes, Radio and Service - Teagan Mauck // York President
On the weekend of September 24th, a few members of the York Key Club volunteered to help with communications for the California International Airshow. After arriving before the sun rose on Saturday, we helped to set up the Communications Center alongside Emergency Communications Through Amateur Radio (ECTAR), an organization which provides radio communication for various events. Once we were all assigned a radio repeater, we were in charge of listening to all radio chatter for anything of great importance. I was in charge of listening to the traffic repeater, and although nothing exciting happened for the most part, I did have to alert security of a suspicious looking truck. The flying events were not allowed to leave the ground unless they received permission from the Communications Center. It made me feel important and 14 that our service was incredibly needed.
On Sunday, our assignment was to sit on the lookout tower and observe the entire airfield with powerful binoculars. The temperature reached 107 degrees in the shade, so we were in charge of looking for anyone showing signs of heat exhaustion. I had to grab water bottles and a radio many times and run down to children close to passing out under the shade of various stationary aircraft. We acted as first responders, bringing lost or dehydrated children to the first aid tent. Without our eyes, the air show could not have gone on.

Hello Tigers!
editor’s note
Did you all have fun at Region Training Conference as well as Fall Rally North? It makes me so happy to be seeing all of you returning and new members at these recent events. By the way, for returning and new members, make sure you all pay your dues by the deadline according to your school. On another note, for all you seniors, I know that college apps are coming straight ahead, so good luck in advance! Remember, this is what most of you have been working towards! In this issue you saw a recap on RTC, and you can catch the FRN Recap on the next issue. I hope you enjoyed reading this month’s Tiger Times, see you next time!
