A LETTER FROM YOUR

LTG

Don’t worry Division 43! Despite the blue and gold in my picture, I am still a true orange and black tiger! One of the busiest, and a little over half of the 2017-18 term, has passed by just like that! I hope that the month of October treated you all well with Region Training Conference, Homecoming (hence the blue and gold in the picture), Fall Rally North, Key to College, SATs, ACTs, and the spookiest holiday of them all — Halloween. Man of you may be burnt out or be just a bit tired of Key Club, and that is completely understandable. However, please do remain active despite the conclusion of this month! Service it out there and it is never-ending! As we approach the last half of this Key Club term, I ask that you all reflect on al that has happened since April. Ask yourself, is there anything else that I want to do before we end this year? Especially for the seniors, this will be your last term as a Key Clubber and I do not want any of you to leave with regrets. I hope that you are all taking care of yourselves and you always remember that I am here to support you! Do not be afraid to contact me about anything, whether it be personal or Key Club related! L-O-V-E I LOVE MY D-I-V

BEACH CLEAN UP: MARINA

The beach clean up we did was at Marina State Beach. There was an organization held called Save Our Shores where other people like us were able to help. We had a

plastic bag and a list of things we needed to check off once we collected the trash. My group picked up small trash like wrappers, cigarettes, and such so we didn’t get much. Overall, with others’ help, the beach seemed pretty clean after.

-ALIZANDRA MOMPAR, MARINA VICE PRESIDENT

BEACH CLEAN UP: MONTEREY

On September 17th, Monterey High School Key Club had a beach clean up. Additionally, we collaborated with Seaside High School Key Club and made th e e v e n t e v e n bigger. We had a lot of attendance and everyone bonded very well. We spent about two hours walking around the beach and picking up trash. Everyone was in mixed groups so it was great

making new friends. In the end, we ended up with over 15 pounds of trash. Everyone was extremely proud of the impact that they had on the environment and the cleanliness of our beaches. Pollution and trash in the oceans is a huge problem, so doing what we can do to lessen that is wonderful. After we finished, we all sat down to have some pizza with our new friends. Overall, the beach clean up was a major success.

-MARAL CHEGINI, MONTEREY PRESIDENT

Bake Sales:

MARINA / MONTEREY

This September, we had a successful bake sale in front of Marina’s Famous Footwear. We had members make their own baked goods to sell. We made brownies, cookies, and cake. Not only did we have people sell food, but we also had others stand on the side to inform people about the bake sale and where its funds went. Our club spent many hours selling desserts to raise money for PTP, or the Pediatric Trauma Program.

On September 12th, Monterey High School Key Club had a bake sale. Several members brought foods and food to sell and others took the time to set up and sell the items. We were met with a rush of hungry students after school and we were very please to see the success the bake sale was having. The bake sale went on from around 3:00 PM to 5:00 PM. The entire time, interest and participation from other students was plentiful. It is great to hold fundraisers and events to raise money for certain causes. Specifically, bake sales do not require a lot of configuration and planning. As long as your members are willing to help out in anyway, then you are on a path to success. Also, bake sales are a great and easy way to get members involved in fundraisers because there are so many roles and duties involved.

-YHIDAH CURIEL, MARINA TREASURER

-LILIA BONYANIAN, MONTEREY MEMBER

Bake Sales: SAN BENITO

On Saturday, September 23, 2017, San Benito hosted a bake sale in front of Lucky Supermarket with the goal to raise funds toward the Pediatric Trauma Program, which helps prevent and reduce the number of children who are killed or injured by trauma. The sale initiated at ten in the morning and continued until two in the afternoon in which we sold a variety of goods: cake pops, cupcakes, cookies,

banana bread, and much more. All the products had no set price, meaning they were sold on the person’s set donation. Many people donated money instead of buying a good, which was very heartwarming. There is always more happiness in giving than receiving. At the end of the day, we were able to raise $303.93. We would like to thank all San Benito Key Clubbers for participating and helping this life-changing cause. In the near future, we will continue to work hard and serve those in need.

-ANAI MURILLO-GONZALEZ, SAN BENITO SECRETARY

REGION TRAINING CONFERENCE

2017

RTC was a very rewarding and memorable experience for me even though it was my second time attending. I absolutely loved getting the chance to bond with new people and being in the same inclusive and positive atmosphere again! The only thing I disliked about RTC this year was not being able to take pictures with all the people that I had met unfortunately, and losing my voice before the legendary campfire. My favorite part about RTC has got to be screaming the lyrics to Count on Me by Bruno Mars with my new profound friend Chaz

and my group that made it to Neverland: Peter Pan.

-SANDY LE, SEASIDE VICE PRESIDENT

Even though it was my first and last time to go to RTC it was a wonderful and memorable experience. I wish that I would have went sooner and that everyone be able to have a chance to go. I loved bonding and getting to know random people from other divisions. The sad part is that I didn’t go before.

-LISSETTE MACLIN, SEASIDETREASURER

It was my time attending RTC. I was in a group where   I didn’t know anyone and made new friends. I had so much fun creating a cheer and a skit with my group and performing it during the campfire. It was a night to remember. I got closer to my new friends and had an amazing experience at RTC and would definitely go again next year.

EDITOR’S NOTE

Happy November Tigers!! It’s been a busy couple of months for Key Club, from Region Training Conference to Fall Rally North! I hope those attending these major events had a great time. Maybe you had your Key Club moment? As busy as October was, I’ve thoroughly enjoyed fall break. Despite how hectic the rest of this school year might turn out to be, it’s important to relax and take care of yourself! I loved creating this newsletter as always! Thank you to everyone sending in their unique articles and visuals to make this issue great, especially those regarding RTC! I couldn’t make it this year, however, I loved hearing about your experiences and seeing all the fun everyone had!! I look forward to showcasing more of Division 43’s work, so keep it up! Catch you in the next one! <3
