A LETTER FROM YOUR

LTG

It’s beginning to look a lot like Christmas~ Happy almost holidays Tigers! No matter what you or your family celebrate, make sure to spend some quality time with them away from your phones! Enjoy some hot chocolate, sugar cookies, decorating, and more! As we go into the last, about, 1/3 of the 2017-18 term the CNH District would like to really ask for you all to help us reach our District service hour goal! We are behind where we would like to be at right now and we don't want to end the term without accomplishing it. PLEASE not only hold multiple service projects, but also make sure they are ACCURATELY REPORTED into your club's MRF! This will not only help our District service hour goal, but also our Division one! As of right now we are only about 1/3 of the way to our 3,000 hour goal. We got this! On a brighter note, as I write this I already feel the beginnings of a simp session. The fact that we are in the last stretch of the term has really hit me and it's really crazy to think how things have changed since my election in February and installation in April. With this, let's make sure to not leave any regrets this term! Dress warmly for the increasingly cold weather and remember that you are always loved and appreciated <3

We were asked to help out at the Blood Drive by the Red Cross alongside with the school. We were assigned to the hospitality area. Our job was to make sure the donors were fed, had a drink, and stayed the required 15 minutes; essentially, we made sure no one passed out from having their blood drawn. Nothing exciting happened and it was just a chill shift where we sat down and conversed with the donors. We met some pretty cool people and it was fun to just sit and talk.

JC Crumpton Elementary School held a Halloween event for kids in which Marina Key Club was able to run booths full of games. There were so many kids dressed up in costumes and with face paint. We ran the “Spin the Wheel” booth where kids had to spin a wheel and if they landed on a sticker, they would get a prize and candies. The children seemed to enjoy our games and the treats we had for them. With out break, we also participated in games with the other kids and won a couple prizes. We all had a pretty good time in helping run the games and being with the kids. After the whole event, we finished by cleaning up.

MEALS ON WHEELS

12

Meals on Wheels was a very fun event, especially when I got to spend time with my other Key Club members. I got to know more about my fellow members at this event. Helping decorate was also fun to do.

- LISSETTE MACLIN, SEASIDE TREASURER 13

Olive Festival On October 14th, 2017, San Benito helped in the 4th annual Olive Festival at the San Benito County Historical Park. The event has been held for four years in which Key Club has serves as an important provider of service to the organizers for the past two years. This event is created to help raise awareness of San Benito’s agriculture and products. We worked with other clubs such as the Robotics team and the Tennis team at San Benito High School. Members had different tasks: cleaning around the park, helping the local vendors with any type of necessities, managing traffic, and guiding kids in the various activities in the arts and crafts center. They were able to make scarecrows as well as pottery. We had a lot of fun helping our local businesses and hope to do this again next year.

KEY CLUB SPIRIT

With the purchase and arrival of spirit gear, members of Monterey High School’s Key Club have been showing their spirit and love for the club. The idea and goal is to spread the word about the club while also showing off its fun aspects. At school, Key Club pride is shown when members wear their fanny packs, t-shirts, and show off their lanyards. Key Club provides a safe environment for the participation in such activities as spirit days. Nobody feels like they are “too cool” to partake in showing pride in the club. Their goal is to simply give back to the community and help other people do the same. With this demonstration comes a desire for other people to be apart of the same community. The love shown for Key Club is contagious.

- LILIA BONYANIAN, MONTEREY MEMBER The first day of Key Club Week contained every member wearing their shirts and a Key Club booth full of key club spirit and singing Christmas songs to show others that Key Club is a club they should join. Seeing people interested in signing up at our booth made me very happy. I think it turned out to be a success because I saw more people show up to our meeting.

- SHANNEN SICAT, SEASIDE HISTORIAN 17

With over 70 members in attendance and a little over $1.4k raised for PTP, Division 43’s Fall Rally North was a success. That’s a $1000 increase and double the members from last term. We were also able to buy District Treasurer Vivian Chu in the auction! I hope all the clubs had a great time and continue to stay active as well as have pride in Key Club!

20

On October 21st, 2017, Monterey High School’s Key Club attended Fall Rally North for the first time. A total of 14 members and two advisors attended. All of the attendees had so much fun and were very happy to get a feel for what Key Club has to offer outside of school. Seeing the members put so much effort into learning the cheers and yelling them at the rally was amazing. Similarly, our members asked every single key clubber they say, “how do you feel?” and were overwhelmed by the enthusiasm in the responses and friendliness of the other clubs. Furthermore, the excitement from all the donations for the Pediatric Trauma Program very much influenced a desire for donating and serving the community more. This experience really boosted club morale and has inspired several members to increase their participation in the club and make greater attendance at future events possible. As president of Monterey’s Key Club, I can say I am very proud of what our club has accomplished so far in the term, and I am very grateful for the advisors who made such experiences possible.

- MARAL CHEGINI, MONTEREY PRESIDENT My first FRN was a great experience. During the session, we got to cheer our lives out for our LTG. I met so many people and got to take pictures with them. I love getting free hugs from other divisions. I had fun this year, and would definitely go again next year.

(Ex: Hot Chocolate Social, Movie Night, Gingerbread House Making, etc.)

Contact your current club officers or lieutenant governor for more information!

CRAFTING YOUR

KEY CLUB PITCH With member retention hitting a low in the winter season, it is important to always be actively promoting Key Club and engaging potential members, so it is important to have your own Key Club pitch memorized! A Key Club pitch is essentially an elevator pitch! If you had 30 seconds to explain to someone what Key Club was all about, how would you do it? Here are some tips: + Know your audience. Does he want service hours? A supportive community of friends? An outlet to be more spirited? Use your knowledge! + What are you going to be emphasizing? + Size? International - 270,000 members + Events? Fall Rally, DCON, RTC, etc. + Skills and values (EX: leadership, caring, character building, and inclusiveness) + Making new friends from new and different places + Looks good for college + Keep the conversation light. Don’t purposely use flowery language! + Be honest. Use your personal experiences to show how Key Club has changed you. Here is an example of a pitch: Hey! I noticed you were lost walking around during Club Rush. I encourage you to join Key Club this year! We are an service-based club found in 32 countries with 270,000 members. In the California-Nevada-Hawaii District, we have 43,000 dues-paid members alone! But not only does Key Club give you service hours for graduation, but we also provide so many social opportunities. For example, we have Fall Rally every year where thousands of Key Clubbers go to Six Flags to fundraise for our preferred charity! Key Club is more than merely accumulating service hours; it’s a supportive community of diverse people from different walks of life. We use our service to brighten up people’s days and lead each other toward change for the better. This club will change you for the better. I hope to see you at our booth!

EDITOR’S NOTE

Happy December Tigers!! DECEMBER HAS FINALLY ARRIVED!!!! Every year my love for the holidays and my favorite season comes full circle. Even though this is the last month of the year, or the last of the “-ber” months as my mom would call it, it’s not too late to do things you set out to do! I hope you all make the best of these next couple weeks before winter break and 2018. Try and finish finals week and this semester off strong!! We’re almost there!!! Even though FRN is over, there’re still exciting events to look forward to like DCON! I look forward to the rest of this term and I’m so proud to be apart of the division, showcasing all work we’ve done so far. And like always, I’m extremely appreciative of any articles and the many visuals I receive. Keep up the great work!! I’m wishing you a cozy, happy, safe, and fun holiday season : ) Catch you next year! <3
