LETTER FROM YOUR LTG WHATS UP TURTLE SQUAD!? I hope you all have been enjoying your summers! My summer has definitely been eventful! Week after week, I have been traveling for Key Club. Last month, I was fortunate enough to attend International Convention in Atlanta, GA. I was also able to attend Seattle Rally Tacoma Rally! This past weekend was Portland Area Rally! This year’s theme was “Light Up Our World Through Service.” During all the forums, lunch, and the dance, you all definitely lit up our world with service! Our division had a little over 30 attendees! Throughout the day, many of you were engaged, displaying all four core values! It warmed my heart to see you all smiling and having a good time together! At the end of the day, we all came together as one, and won the Spirit Stick together! I felt like a proud mom :’) Here is a few updates on upcoming events~ This month, we will be having a Joint August Scavenger Hunt DCM with the Portland Area (62, 64, 65 West, 66, 70). This DCM is going to be at the end of the month and will take place in downtown Portland. There has been some conflict with the Car Wash. I will be giving you all a two week notice on it. We will also be having a Portland Area Officer Training conference coming next month. This conference is mandatory for all officers. Members may attend, but it is not mandatory. Before I close up my letter, I wanted to inform you guys that I will be leaving to my Summer Board meeting on August 19 and will not return until the 21st. Wifi and Cellular connection is little to none, so contacting me will be very difficult. If you need to contact me at any time, please feel free to contact the divisional Executive Assistant, Julia Dayton! Kyra will be attending this board member alongside Bryan Lee and I, so she will not be able to receive messages for me. That’s all I have for now, Turtles! Like always, sit back and enjoy this month’s issue of “The Turtle In Love and Service, Monthly!”

Lieutenant Governor of Division 65 East Pacific Northwest District | Key Club International

DIVISIONAL BOARD JULIA DAYTON EXECUTIVE ASSISTANT

This month, I have been focusing mostly on developing relations with the rest of our K-Family. After visiting Portland Rally, I was inspired by the passion present there to act on an idea that I had a few months earlier, and inquire about starting a Builder's Club at my local middle school. My goal for the school year is to educate more people about the impact of Kiwanis, whether that is members of my school's Key Club, or the kids at the middle school.

This summer has been pretty hectic and I haven't been able to do much without being back home. However, I am doing as much as possible. There is a volunteering opportunity on August 20 that would be willing to donate around $20 to Key Club per person. It is a flyering event, handing out flyers to Terrapin Events at Color Run. This will take place from 8:30 to 10:30 at the Washington County Fair Complex. I have also contacted Color Run itself to see if there are any other opportunities and hopefully will be hearing back from them soon. My first priority during these upcoming months is to first get all the schools in Division 65 East out of debt. If we bring a minimum of 10 people to the flyering event this would already bring everyone close to being out of debt. Bridge Pedal had been willing to accept volunteers before and would have donated even more per volunteer, but unfortunately the information was miscommunicated and a shortage of time prevented this from going through. But there are more events including food fundraisers, a divisional car wash, and more running events that will be organized in the coming future.

ROSIE NGUYEN FUNDRAISING CHAIR

DIVISIONAL BOARD MARK HUYNH Being a part of Division 65 East's Membership Growth Team, my most obvious goal is to improve not only the amount of members in Key Club in our division, but also membership involvement. As you have probably noticed, member involvement decreases exponentially towards the end of the year, most likely due to sports, finals, and the increased workload in general. During my experience with Key Club, I've taken note that DCON is what draws the most attention to Key Club. Over my past two years, many individuals at my school had great desires to attend the District Conventions, however spacing in the bus and hotels were very limited. Furthermore, after publicizing my experience to my acquaintances, many more began to have plans to go to Convention the following year. I want to utilize this desire for Conventions and Rallies as a motivational tool to help guide and motivate members to join and to become more active in Key Club. I think this is gonna be very crucial this year, especially since the 68th Annual DCON will be taking place in our area, meaning we have a lot of potential to bring in MANY new turtles into our family.

SANRITA UNG SPIRIT COORDINATOR

SPIRIT COORDINATOR

My time being in this position has been great so far and it really changed my perspective of how key club works and how determined everyone is. I’m very excited for PAR and I’m also looking forward to help hype everyone up and win the spirit stick. To every up, there is a down. After going to DCON, I feel like I have an idea on what we should keep doing and what we need to improve on in our division. I saw that some of us there were quite distant from one another and I want to change that. This being one of my goals, I want to help everyone unite and be comfortable around each other as if we were like a family! This summer, I’ve been trying to connect with more key clubbers within and outside of our division because as one of the spirit coordinators, I should try to be more outgoing and spread the word that our division is great. I’m looking forward to see how far our division can go with the other DLT members.

KRISTEN CORPUZ School is around the corner (boo-hoo..) but my love for Key Club is still there! As a Divisional Historian, my goal for the upcoming school year is to take more pictures, specifically when volunteering. During volunteering I want to take pictures of people volunteering. I want the future Key Clubbers see the joy and how rewarding it is on bringing back to the community by volunteering. My other goal is to also help and recruit new members, especially the freshmen to join Key Club as well during registration day and club rush as well. I don't have anything in mind with changes to bring for this division, maybe hopefully in the future!

2016-2017 Inter INTERNATIONAL PRESIDENT Greetings, Key Clubbers! My name is Devin Sun, and I am honored to be serving as your 2016-2017 International President. This year, your International Board and I will be working diligently to put our newly announced strategic plan into action. The strategic plan is a set of guidelines by which our organization will operate for the next five years. Your International Vice President, Mary Grace, and I have decided to focus on three main objectives: education, the Kiwanis Family, and expansion. Our two international committees for this year directly reflect those objectives. The Committee for Service and Education will be reviewing the entirety of the Key Club and Kiwanis Family resource library while also hosting fundamental webinars for different groupings of Key Clubbers. The Committee for Growth and Communication will be working with Kiwanis to build our organization in countries across the world while also bolstering Kiwanis Family relationships. Together, these two committees will drive the focuses of Key Club International as an entity for the 2016-2017 service year. I am absolutely thrilled to see what this year has in store for Key Club International. I foresee potential not only for organizational growth, but also for personal and individual growth. Throughout the year, if you have any questions, comments, or concerns, please do not hesitate to reach out to me at presidentdevinsun@gmail.com. Your voice absolutely matters when it comes to serving the 270,000 strong membership of Key Club International. Yours in caring and service, Devin Sun Key Club International President

rnational Board INTERNATIONAL VICE PRESIDENT Aloha, Key Clubbers! I am so incredibly honored and humbled to have been given the opportunity to serve as your International Vice President for the 2016-17 term. Key Club has provided me with so many opportunities, so many memories, and so many friendships, and I hope that I can work hard to ensure that each and every one of you is able to do the same. I am from the California-NevadaHawaii District, home of the Buzzing Bees, and I live near the Los Angeles area - Burbank, to be exact, which is where Ellen is shot! My favorite things to do include drinking coffee, rereading the Harry Potter books, and singing along to Hamilton in the car. This year, we want to make sure that Key Clubbers know all the service opportunities available to them. So, we plan on updating and broadening our Service Directory, and giving Key Clubbers the opportunity to share service events that they participated in, which they found to be fun, exciting, or unique, in order to offer inspiration to other members around the world. I also want to focus on strengthening the bond between Key Club and the other branches of our Kiwanis Family, as well as strengthening communication between Key Clubs outside of North America. This is going to be amazing year, Key Clubbers! Never hesitate to reach out to me if you ever have any questions, any advice on how I could be serving you better, or just want to chat. Greetings, Pacific Northwest District! My name is Nicole Montana, and I am honored to introduce myself as your new International Trustee. This year, I will be serving the Kansas, Louisiana-Mississippi-West Tennessee, and Pacific Northwest Districts, and I feel so lucky to be working with you all in the coming year. I’m from the New England and Bermuda District, and I’m from Marshfield, Massachusetts, a small beach town just south of Boston, where I’m going into my senior year. I’m on my school’s Mock Trial team and am a part of my Drama Club, but when I started high school three years ago, Key Club was the first club I joined. The time I’ve spent and the people I’ve met in Key Club have changed my life and allowed me to meet some of my best friends. As your International Trustee I’m here to ensure that you can make the most of your time in Key Club. I’m here to be the link between you and Key Club International, to ensure that you have a voice in our organization, and that you’re informed about what’s going on at the International level. I hope that during this year, I get to many of you and that you feel comfortable coming to me as both a resource and as a fellow NEW ENGLAND-BERMUDA Key Club member. e | kctrusteenicole@gmail.com If you have any questions, comments, or concerns, p | (781) 738 - 8623 please feel free to reach out to me at anytime by email or at 781-738-8623. I'm also on Facebook, Twitter, and Instagram, so feel free to add me there as well! This is going to be an amazing year and I'm so excited to see what we all accomplish!
