LIEUTENANT GOVERNOR WHAT’S UP TURTLE SQUAD! I hope you guys all enjoy the new design of this new newsletter! Julia and I worked really hard on this to make sure it lives up to 65 East’s expectation! Julia and I wanted a newsletter that was informational and visually appealing. If you’re interested in getting feautured, write an article or make a page yourself! Everything can get submitted here! The time has actually come where my term is coming to an end. This year has probably been my wildest year yet! This isn’t my farewell letter, so I’ll just keep it informative!! Many of you have been asking about the Tshirts and Crewnecks!! They should be shipped to my house March 21. Shirts will be distributed to clubs that week and crewnecks will be available for you to get at PRECON day 3! If you are a non 65 East member, Julia or I will contact you personally to organize shipping methods! Speaking of PRECON, 65 East will be having 3 PRECONs this year! PRECON Day 1 is REQUIRED for EVERY DCON attendee in 65 East. It is highly reccomended for advisors and chaperones as well! At this PRECON DCM, we will be going over EVERYTHING AND ANYTHING about DCON. From packing lists trasnportation, all your questions will be answered at this DCM. We will also be going over cheers and making hug me signs and posters. You will get the opprotunity to meet the other attendees and win some extra special spirit gear such as ribbon leis, boas, and bows! PRECON day 2 is called “DIY DAY.” At PRECON Day 2, each member will have the opprotunity to learn how to make Tutus, Capes, flower headbands, ribbon leis, spirit staffs, Key blades, and basically anything to enhance your spirit for DCON! The only supplies that will be supplied at PRECON day 2 will be things such as paint brushes, hot glue guns, tape, needles, thread and anything of that nature. Tulle for tutus, ribbons, and fabric must be brought by you! This PRECON will just show you how to make things! Supply lists will be on the event page! PRECON day 3 is a Potluck Party! This event, just as it sounds, is a potluck to celebrate our end of the service year! We are asking that every attendee brings a food item in order to satify our teenage hunger! At this potluck, it will just be chill vibes, so come as you are! We will have a section for senior wills, officer/member/club awards, and the final results for Turlte Tallies! Ahh!! I don’t know what else to say! I guess thats all I have for now! Hope you guys enjoy this issue of The Turtle Monthly!! In Love and Service

LIEUTENANT GOVERNOR
HEY 65 EAST! Before all else, I would just like to say how incredibly honored I am to have been elected to serve as Lieutenant Governor for the 2017-2018 term! I am so excited to work with all of you in the next year, and to make sure that our whole division shares in the same passion and the same love of service that I felt when I first came into this organization! Here are a few fast facts about me: I was born in Ukraine, and I moved to the United States before I turned four years old. My favorite color used to be yellow for nearly ten years, but then a few years ago, I gained a new appreciation for blue, and now my favorite color is a weird cross between light blue and purple (peep at my nail polish if you want to see exactly which color I mean!). I also hate taking pictures, but I have been trying to get better at it in recent months, so feel free to come by and meet me, and take a selfie, too! Onto a more serious note, I joined Key Club through the suggestion of one of my older cousins, Anastasia, who is now graduating from college (time flies!). I even have one of the “We So Fly, 65 crewnecks somewhere in my garage, as a reminder of her and of the great organization which she introduced me to, and that was my first vivid memory of falling in love with Key Club. Since signing up during Club Fair, I have been enchanted with the amount of love and passion that people show for this organization, and for each other. These key :) words seem to be so heavily entwined into our beings as Key Clubbers that it seems impossible to describe the experience without it. That brings me back into this year. I am so incredibly honored and excited for the chance to get to work with all of you this year, both during DCMs, club visits, and any other chance that I may get. Working with all of you this year has shown me a new side of Key Club, that of a family, one where everyone is loved and supported, and I hopethat this year, we can all join together to overcome the challenges of the world through our passion for service. In Love and Serve

LETTER FROM YOUR DIVISIONAL LEADERSHIP TEAM
ROSIE NGUYEN FUNDRAISING CHAIR
SANRITA UNG SPIRIT COORDINATOR
Hey Turtles! Bad(?) news: This will be the last paragraph I will write for the Turtle Monthly, as everyone's terms are coming to an end :') Good news: Spring break is coming up!! All the five day weeks are really getting to me and tiring me out (test after test after test), and it's finally time for a well awaited break from studying. But!! Spring break is especially great because at the end of it is a super cool event!! (see below for more details) GOOD news: DCON IS APPROACHING FAST!! I could not be more excited for this upcoming convention. After year of hard work and lots of service, it's time to end it with lots of fun!! I'm delighted to see an increase in members who will be attending this year, compared to the numbers that went to DCON last year. Also very pumped for the spirit packs, shirts, and crewnecks :)) Thank you all for a great term. I had so much fun and learned a lot about the division and what we can all do together. Hope to see many of you applying to DLT for next year! <3
Hey guys! Are you pumped for the 68th annual district convention?! I know I am! This year will be my 2nd year attending dcon and I am so honored to be attending it not only as the incoming president of Aloha high school Key Club, but as one of your outgoing spirit coordinators! I'd like to give a special shoutout to Kyra from Aloha high school for taking time to help me and Mark lead the spirit committee by creating a bunch of posters, spirit gear, and cheers! In honor of her and our division, my goal at this year's dcon is to bring home the spirit stick!! Let's show the PNW who 65E really is!! See you guys then!!(-:
LETTER FROM YOUR DIVISIONAL LEADERSHIP TEAM
MARK HUYNH SPIRIT COORDINATOR
Hey Key Clubbers! Less than half a month away till DCON and I'm super excited to celebrate my 3rd year of service with all of you! Our spirit gear has arrived and they look amazing all thanks to our Lieutenant Governor Kaye! Anyone attending DCON, I highly recommend that you guys to take a look at the cheers that our board has created so you can become familiar with them by the time convention comes. Cheers are what makes convention so hyped up and lit, so be sure to know them! Sadly, this will mark the end of my term along with the rest of us on the divisional board. But there will be a bunch of new and wonderful innies that will be taking our place! For any incoming innies who ran for a board position, I gladly welcome all of you. For all of the outties, I wish a great farewell to all of you. Hopefully this won't be my last goodbye, as I hope to continue to play a impact role while I'm still in high school. I still have one more year in this wonderful club, and I plan to make the most of it :)
KRISTEN CORPUZ HISTORIAN
Hey turtles! We have finally reached March, which means Dcon is near! I would like to say it has been an amazing year working along side with Kaye and the DLT members. Are you hype about it, because I sure am!! This will be my third and final year (sadly) attending our annual District Convention, and attending them was such an opportunity to take to meet new people and befriend them, and learn more about Key Club. There are so many things I can tell to the new members going to the convention, but I will keep it short. Attend forums, be spirited, and make friends throughout the PNW! Dcon has changed me, and I hope it changes you all for the better. I'm so glad to meet you all at DCMs, taking pictures of all of your lovely faces, and be a part of this amazing division. It's been such an honor to be serving you guys as your Divisional Historian, much love to all of you! :-)

TURTLES OF THE MONTH “Gina joined Key Club, officially, this year. She’s hard working and always wanting to make an impact in her home, school, and community. With her friends Sanrita and Kallyan, they hope to make a great impact in Key Club as did her senior friends. Gina attends almost all the DCMs, always coming with a positive attitude. She tries to find ways to get involved, whether it be finding fundraisers, going to out of division events, or even trying to make a new member feel welcomed. I can see great things out of Gina in the future of 65 East” - Kyra DelaChica, VP of Aloha HS Key Club
GINA YOON ALOHA HS
ESHE FORESHAW ALOHA PRESIDENT
“I’ve known Eshe since I joined Key Club my freshman year. She may come off intimidating at first, but she’s hard working and will do whatever it takes to make sure Aloha Key Club is doing the best they ever could. She wants to be involved and always wants to know whats up in the division and district. She has attended numerous out of divisional events and takes everything she learns back to Aloha. She is always in constant communication with out-ofdivisional officers so that she can continue learning. She’s always proud of her club members and is always thankful for their hard work and efforts.” - Kyra DelaChica, VP of Aloha HS Key Club

MEET YOUR 2017-2018 Lt.G
JULIA DAYTON FROM SR HEY TURTLES! Before all else, I would like to thank you for electing me as your incoming lieutenant governor! It still feels like a dream, even after all of these weeks. I am so honored and beyond excited to begin my work with you this year, and there will never be enough words to describe just how thankful I am for everything that this division has done for me. Over the past three years, I have been so extremely lucky to meet some of the most talented and passionate individuals through this organization, and my only wish for the next year is to inspire all of our club members, old and new, to feel the same love for service that I see shining throughout our division. In this following year, my primary goal is to make sure that we are able to highlight the unique qualities of each club, including a special service project, and, of course, the talented and passionate students who make each club stand out. While we all work together as Division 65 East, each of your clubs has something special about it that deserves to be in the spotlight, and I look forward to meeting and discussing these ideas with all of you this year! In addition to that, I also look forward to expanding both our knowledge and our interactions with the rest of the K-Family through including fun activities (such as Kahoot or Jeopardy) at some of your club meetings, so that we can learn about the K-Fam while having fun, as well as trying to charter new clubs in our division! Together, we all connect to become a family, and this year, I hope that by embracing our similarities, our differences, and our talents, we can all become stronger as our own clubs, and stronger as a division. With that, I’d like to thank you all once again, and here’s to another wonderful year of service!

turtle squad story time "service project spotlight"
nightstrike
has been my favorite service projects I've ever participated in within Key Club! The project is run on Thursdays, every week by Bridgetown Inc. in downtown Portland. Night strike is an service project that allows volunteers to work hands on with portlands homeless community. Volunteers work to pass out food, coffee, juice, socks, and even just provide a person to talk to under the Burnside Bridge. This was the project that made me fall in love with Key Club. It made me realize, that many lives. My first opportunity through volunteering, even a small kid like me can to serve at Nightstrike, I was able to participate in a walk about. A walk about team consists of around five to seven volunteers and is given resources such as sandwiches and hot coffee to take downtown for those who are unable to come under the bridge. Through this project, I was able to initiate conversation with countless individuals of the homeless population in Portland. It opened my eyes to reality and the kind hearts of those who are often misunderstood. I realized the weight of what I was doing, as one single sandwich meant everything to those we were serving. This event pushed me to go out and volunteer more. I was able to go on a prayer walk a couple weeks after this. It allowed me to just sit down and conversate with various people on the streets. I experienced awesome conversations with the homeless community downtown and it taught me so much about life . This continues to be my favorite project to participate in and I think this is a service project that everyone should sign up for!
