CHIEF ARCHITECT Dr. G Shankar is the founder and Chief Architect of Habitat Technology Group, Trivandrum which is the largest NGO in the shelter sector in South Asia committed to sustainable building solutions. The main ideology behind his work is the preference of locally available materials, sustainability and affordability. He is very passionate and dedicated to the craft of Architecture and is keen on experimenting with various modern and traditional techniques. He mtivates us to work hard and enlightens us with his immense knowledge and experience about the field. He is lovingly known as ‘People’s Architect’ due to his keen vision in helping and bringing architecture to all levels of society.

ACKNOWLEDGEMENT I would like to express my sincere gratitude to Habitat Technology Group for this opportunity to work as a Trainee that prioritized learning and self-improvement throughout my internship period of 6 months. What made the work worthwhile were my mentors. I am extremely grateful to Padmasree G Shankar Sir for guiding me and for giving me this opportunity that challenged me to stretch and grow. THE AUDITORIUM HAS A CAPACITY OF 460 SEATS AND THE INTERIOR THEME IS A REFLECTION OF THE CULTURE AND ARTISTIC ESSENCE OF KERALA, JUXTAPOSED SEAMLESSLY WITH THE SIGNATURE CHOICE OF MATERIALS OF ‘HABITAT’ TO CREATE A PERFECT BLEND OF THE MODERN AND THE TRADITIONAL.
THE COVE LIGHTING ON THE SIDES IS SUCH THAT IT BLENDS SEAMLESSLY WITH THE MUD TEXTURE ON THE WALLS. THE CLIENT’S REQUIREMENTS THE CLIENT WAS A BUSINESSMAN AND HE HAD SOME VERY CLEAR CUT REQUIREMENTS IN TERMS OF THE SPACES HE WANTED TO BE IN THE SAID APARTMENT COMPLEX. 1. SMALL SERVICED APARTMENTS (WITH NO KITCHEN) WHICH WOULD BE RENTED OUT FOR SHORTER DURATIONS 2. STUDIO, 1 BHK, 2 BHK APARTMENTS WHICH COULD BE SOLD/RENTED OUT FOR LARGER DURATIONS 3. A COMMON PAID EATING SPACE/CAFE FOR THE RESIDENTS OF THE SERVICED UNITS

THE CHALLENGE THE L-SHAPED SITE WAS QUITE NARROW, AND AFTER LEAVING THE REQUISITE SETBACKS AS PER THE KERALA BUILDING RULES (KMBR), WE WERE LEFT WITH AN EVEN NARROWER SPACE. WE HAD TO GO HIGH-RISE BUT AS PER THE KMBR, THE HEIGHT RESTRICTION LEFT US WITH A G+6 STRUCTURE.
