If you wake up and just think whatever comes to mind, thoughts will tell you, You have too many problems. You’re too tired. You’ll never overcome this obstacle. Nothing good is going to happen today. If you don’t set the tone for the day, negative thoughts will set it for you. Before you check your phone, before you read your email, before you see what the weather is like, you need to think power thoughts - victory thoughts, abundance thoughts, can-do thoughts - on purpose. Here it is February already….. Normally most of us would be finishing up on our projects in anticipation of the upcoming show schedule. Un-fortunately all of us are dealing with the Covid-19 rules and the political unrest. Those of us who are planning to attend events have to deal with the fact that wearing a mask and social distancing is expected. January, February and March are hard months to plan outside events. Cold, rain, wind all can ruin your well planed show. There will always be the die-hards that will show up and hat’s off to them. We want the cruise-in’s and car shows to get back to normal. So let’s show support where and when we can.. Here are some of my emails …. Jimbo, With American values dropping we see everyone being vocal but are you part of the problem? We have some who talk politics daily but don't vote. We have some who worry about small towns and family owned businesses who have to close but they shop at Walmart and Amazon. We see our professional ball teams disgrace our national anthem by taking a knee but people still watch it, buy their goods and root for their favorite team. We have people who cry foul of everything the police do and they want to defund the police but first sound they hear in the back yard or if something is wrong who do they call? The police. We have people who talk about how rude others are but won't hold a door for anyone walking in, say hello or give them a break when they are behind the wheel of their car. They gripe about FB while on FB yet they continue to use it daily like nothing is wrong. I don't shop at Walmart because it puts small town shop out of business, I don't shop at Amazon because of the same reason and the power they have. Remember Parlor and everyone going there

instead of FB. Well it came out it was Amazon who shut them down to keep you under the thumb of left wing FB. I stopped watching professional ball teams when people like me who made 30K and year and bought tickets while millionaire professional ball players went on strike many years ago to get more money. Their current situation of disrespecting America by kneeling only proves to me that I was right from the get go. Same with NASCAR. I will never watch another race. My time on FB will be limited and soon I will be gone for good. I'm a God fearing, red blooded redneck who respects our 1st responders, says hello to strangers, holds the door open for people and my wife doesn't open her own car door when we are out. I'm man enough to say I was wrong, man enough to stand up for my rights and man enough not to bicker on social media with keyboard tough guys. I'm also man enough to catch the same people in person and ask them to say it to my face so I can slap the ignorance from their brain. There is a time and that is now for people to act like they should. You can't have it both ways anymore. Don't live walking on both sides. Pick one or the other because there will be a time soon where good men will have to do bad things in order for our children and grand children to have a life worth living. As luck would have it, I walked out to the street and caught a taxi just as it was going by. I got into the taxi, and the Cabbie said, "perfect timing. You're just like Frank." I said: "Who?" Cabbie: "Frank Feldman. He's a guy who did everything right all the time. Like my coming along when you needed a cab, things happened like that to Frank Feldman every single time." I said: "There are always a few clouds over everybody." Cabbie: "Not Frank Feldman. He was a terrific athlete. He could have won the Grand-Slam at tennis. He could golf with the pros. He sang like an opera baritone and dance like a Broadway star and you should have heard him play the piano. He was an amazing guy." I said: "Sounds like he was something really special." I recently had the pleasure to attend I got a seat. Just needs to be a lunch gathering with quite a few folks properly secured and then that were or still are involved deeply in reupholstered. Won't be long this automotive sport/hobby. Some were now I hope builders, some old racers while some were just old car fanatics. Some family with one another. We had a great meal, surrounded by great folks and many friends. For the sake of this and some awesome discussions. To me it was the best Christmas discussion the names of those in attendance present I could have ever gotten. and the establishment where this took place shall remain nameless, I am sure my friends that never heard my take on weather this to protect the innocent. I was amazed how interconnected we all sport /hobby is dying, may or may not agree with the following. Yes, seemed to be too. Some friends knew many at the table, some only this sport is changing, it always has since the first two folks in their knew of them while others were surprised that we were all so first cars lined up side by side and someone yelled go. This Month we're getting back to the start of a new year of cruising and shows. We had a lot of cancelled events this past year. If there was anything good to come from it, we seen a lot of Families enjoying the outdoors. We did some Nature Trail hiking and just looking around the woods and stuff. We made it over to Fountainbleau State Park a couple times, Logtown several times, Tammany Trace bike trails, along with just some backyard firepit hanging out.. But we sure seen a lot people biking, hiking, picnicking and enjoying their family time outdoors. Hopefully this family outdoors trend continues. So I tell y'all make a picnic lunch pack, the bikes, outdoor games, fishing poles or whatever and get outside and enjoy the sunshine. Look around we all have a state Park or Nature Trail that's close to our house and just waiting on people to enjoy using them. Make those Family memories last. Uncle Harry's Favorite. I can remember my Uncle Harry's passion for the 1940 Ford. Of course I was not around when he was young, but something happened that caused him to be in love with this vehicle. He hung around at the Ford garage when he was a kid, I do know that. That was back in the day when the showroom could hold 2 or 3 cars, maximum. Maybe it was the aroma that is unique to a new car that drew him to them. Perhaps it was their shape and design. Whatever it was, his brain was “ate up” with the 1940 Ford. He owned three in his lifetime, a sedan, a “Woody”, and a Standard coupe. Under the direct supervision of Edsel Ford and with distinctive styling by Ford design chief E.T. “Bob” Gregorie, the Ford De Luxe line had a fresh new look for 1940. Even to this day, the 1940 Ford De Luxe is among the most popular of the pre-war Ford V-8's, with a number of features that distinguish it from other models. The De Luxe line was introduced in 1938 as an upscale alternative to the base model, called the Standard. This was intended to fill the gap between that and the Lincoln, and provide an alternative. The 1940 Ford 112 inch wheelbase with transverse leaf springs front and rear carried over from the 1939 version pretty much unchanged. A torsion-type stabilizer bar was added to reduce body roll, and permit a lower front spring rate while the hydraulic brakes, that were new in 1939, were upgraded with larger drums for 1940. The dependable 221 CID, 85 hp L-head V-8 was treated to a revised carburetor and larger six volt generator, while the smaller 136 CID 60 hp V-8 was reportedly available in both the standard and De Luxe models in 1940. The 60 hp De Luxe was extremely rare, however, and was reportedly only produced in 161 cars, say the Ford experts.

The 1940 instrument panel was a significant leap forward for Ford, incorporating a modern-looking horizontal speedometer and gauges instead of the previously used round dials. There were dual ash trays, one at each end of the dash panel and De Luxe models included a 30-hour clock built into the locking glove compartment door. One notable new development for 1940 was the steering column mounted shift lever, which Ford called “Finger-Tip Shift.” This allowed more comfortable three-abreast seating. Sealed-beam headlamps appeared for the first time in 1940, as did the front vent windows, allowing Ford to discontinue the traditional hinged crank-out windshield. The windshield wipers were relocated from above the windshield to below it and the radio antenna was mounted at the top center of the roof header. Among hot rodders, the two coupe body styles (coupe and business coupe) are probably the most popular, followed by the long-roofed Tudor sedan, however there is a current trend popularizing the four door sedans. The Business Coupe included a pair of folding jump seats, known as opera seats, behind the driver's bench seat. This model is often referred to as an “opera coupe” by enthusiasts. There were six Deluxe body styles in 1940: The $721.00 Coupe and $745.00 Business Coupe, the $765.00 Tudor, the sporty Convertible Coupe at $850.00, along with a $810.00 Fordor Sedan. The most expensive style at $950.00 was the De Luxe Station Wagon with its select ash and maple hardwoods cut from Michigan forests, and extensively hand constructed. All of these 1940 Fords are highly coveted today.

Uncle Harry thought the best darn car in the world was the 1940 Ford. Nothing else ever compared then, or now for him. A lot of people agree. Unk even tried to make improvements to his vehicles. He tried to magnetize the rear end on his cars. His theory was that the magnet would pick up the parts as they fell off the car and before they were lost. He wasn't successful, but I for one think this is a good idea and tried it on my street rod. It didn't work for me, either. We both made it out of school without even having Google. You don't see that today. Harry said his great-granddaddy invented checkers too, but I never have quite believed that. Unk also resisted belonging to any car club. He said any car club that would accept him into their membership was not an organization he wanted to be affiliated with. He was a funny old geezer. I miss him. He is up running the dirt roads of Heaven, if they have any. That is for sure. A legend is an old man with a cane, known for what he used to do. Gotta Cruise!

begins around 7:30am til so please come join us. Brrrr! “Baby it's cold outside�. That should have been the Lucedale Edwards Drugs Breakfast Cruise-In's song for our January Cruise. Even though the wind was blowing, and the temperature was a cool 39, we still had a nice turnout (well maybe not a huge group but the ones who came enjoyed it). This group of guys decided to stay warm and in their vehicles after their breakfast at Rocky's Diner. Can't say I blame them! Bill Adams drove 80 miles from Stockton, Al just to support the breakfast. Thanks Bill and we are glad you came. I must brag a little on this next car; actually, the car and the guy responsible for it running. Mike Lachaussee and I purchased this car almost 4 years ago, sort of on a whim. We both liked the looks of it and we both love old stock cars. This 1941 Ford Deluxe has 27,538 original miles and is clean inside and out. We bought this from a guy (seller will be unnamed!) who said it cranked every time you turned the key. He brought it to us on a trailer and insisted he drive it off for us and put it in the shop. We signed all the papers, exchanged money and were happy with our new purchase. Of course, the first thing we wanted to do was take it around the block. We get in and back it up and to our surprise - NO BRAKES. We (my guy) immediately did a complete brake job. Now we get to drive it. Low and behold it would not crank. So began the saga of this little honey. Mike has replaced points, plugs, new coil, and I have learned a new skill - pulling the '41. I will say every time I pulled it, she cranked immediately. Mike had replaced everything and sometimes it would crank and then again it wouldn't. Since we have several more of those stock cars, we couldn't devote our full attention to this one. I do not remember what prompted us to get back on this car, but we did. Mike replaced a bad solenoid and in doing so, found a loose wire to the starter. That was a year ago. The seller was right; this '41 cranks every time you turn the key, thanks to Mike. Mike's '55 Chevy and my '56 TBird are a little cold to start if you don't crank them every day. Not this '41. It cranks and drive at the comfortable speed of 45. It is a pleasure to drive and ride in. We have been trying to downsize for the last couple of years. We don't love the cars any less; we simply aren't quite as young as we once were. This '41 is for sale and we would love for someone to get it that would care for it as much as we do. Unfortunately, it seems the hobby has taken a turn where these old cars are not appreciated or wanted by the younger generation. I can only hope when I reach 80, I can operate as well as this car does. I have heard all the FORD vs CHEVY jokes and of course we are a house divided, but I will put my '56 TBird and this '41 against those Chevy's any day. Come see us next month at Edwards Drugs in Lucedale on the second Friday of the month. We have had several people call recently inquiring about the Swap Meet and since we have not had a lot of interest, we are no longer going to advertise as a Swap Meet.

Wilmer Valderrama Bought the Oldsmobile Station Wagon From That '70s Show for $500
BY Peter Holderith - The Drive January 13, 2021 "Fez" bought the car off the props department at the end of the final season. Most movie cars are pretty cool, but they aren't always what they seem and sometimes they're even rented or faked. Heck, some are cobbled together just to make it through production and definitely aren't the sort of cars you want to own. However, sometimes it's the complete opposite, like the 1969 Oldsmobile Vista Cruiser from That '70s Show. The larger-than-life station wagon was a bone-stock Oldsmobile used mostly as a prop in the background or for static driving shots. Eventually, as filming for the show was nearing its end, actor Wilmer Valderrama—who played foreign exchange student "Fez"— decided to buy it from the props department. In an interview on The Kelly Clarkson Show, Valderrama recounted how the conversation with the props department went, and how much he paid for it. "I go, 'Listen, how much for the Vista Cruiser?' He goes, 'What? You don't want that thing.' I go, 'Yes I do. I need the Vista Cruiser.' They said $500 bucks, so I bought the Vista Cruiser for 500 bucks from our props department." Now, $500 is a good deal for any car, but it's an especially good deal for something like an Olds Vista Cruiser. Available with a choice of three V8s - it's not clear which is installed in Valderrama's car - the Vista Cruiser was the family SUV before the SUV was really even a thing. With unique roof glass and seating for as many as eight passengers (officially), the Vista Cruiser was a family hauling machine. Not many were optioned with the 455 Rocket V8 and a four-speed Hurst floor shifter, but even those that weren't are still cool today. They weren't cool back then, but they are now. Valderrama says he plans to keep the car forever, saying he wants it to become "that car that just sits in the garage with the battery dead." He goes as far as to say that he's left it in his will for his children, which is a funny thought. Saddling them with a car like that, four flat tires, slowly rusting away in the corner, certainly a funny way to remember your father by, and a cool opportunity if they ever want to fix it up.

On December 9th about lunchtime I received a call from Elizabeth that I did not want to get, an employee at her office who traveled during Thanksgiving had tested positive for COVID 19, her office was closed and everyone had to go get a COVID 19 test. Wow! I thought she would be fine, even though the girl that had tested positive had done one on one training with Elizabeth a couple days before. A couple hours later I get the call from Elizabeth that she tested positive for COVID 19. Wow again, I was floored. When she got home, we hugged and shed a tear or two‌and decided I would get tested the next morning. I went to the same clinic she did in Orange Beach, AL and Elizabeth went with me. We had to wait two hours in my truck before we were called in for the test. I was positive also. We talked to the doctor about the possibility of a false positive, he informed us if we both tested positive, we had COVID 19. With my age and health issues we asked the doctor if it was a death sentence. He calmly stated he wished he could tell us, he said COVID 19 is different in every patient. He said the biggest problem with COVID 19 is with the lungs, blood clots. He gave me a bronchial inhaler, told us to start taking Vitamins C, D and Zinc. He also said keep moving around to keep the lungs clear. The doctor also told us to get to the ER as soon as possible if we have trouble breathing. He wished us the best of luck. We had no idea what lay ahead of us as we walked to the truck.

Elizabeth started feeling bad after her COVID 19 test. After my test later that afternoon I started feeling bad but I still thought I would not have bad symptoms, we would be fine. I kept thinking 99% of people are fine, but that 1% kept entering my mind. I have had friends and acquaintances that had died from COVID 19, so I was concerned. Was this the beginning of the end? I felt confident we would be fine, but privately I wondered about myself. Saturday we both felt like crap. Running fever, mine got to 100.7, we felt bad, both had headaches unlike we have ever had, I started having some shortness of breath, Elizabeth was nauseated. We both lost taste and smell. Elizabeth said losing her incredible gift of smell was the worst for her. Something she had never experienced in her life. We felt terrible. Thank goodness for the drive thru pharmacy, we wore masks and gloves; and we used the car delivery services of Walmart and Target. We sprayed the area of the truck the employees would possibly touch with Lysol before going to both and wore masks and gloves, we did not want to give it to anyone! Writing my column last month was tough because we were in the middle of the worst of the sickness. COVID 19 is not something you want to tell people you have. I equate it to having leprosy in the Bible, the only difference is hopefully you get through COVID 19, most people do. We were sick, very sick about 10-12 days. Our salvation, (everyone is and can be different) was we took 400 mg of Ibuprofen every 4 hours. We tried different things, but ibuprofen did the trick for us with our fever and made us feel the best, as best as we could feel. That and the Vitamins, twice a day, we also kept moving around, walking and at the end, a bike ride around the neighborhood‌ one lap that liked to have killed us, it felt like it anyway. I started coughing up stuff near the end, the very first was bloody and that kind of scared me, but that quickly went away with the rest of the stuff I coughed up. Elizabeth was incredible through it all!

We were over COVID by December 25 and enjoyed entertaining my brother Ken and Linda for a traditional Christmas Day lunch and a great weekend. We had a blast and a great weekend.
It is now the middle of January, I still have some shortness of breath and we both continue to fight recurring headaches and fatigue. Elizabeth got her smell back, she was happy and relieved about that. It did not bother me at all not smelling or tasting, but she hated that. We have started to get our strength back by riding our bikes. Recently we did 5 miles with no problem. Our take a ways from COVID 19…we hate masks, but we wear them in public and we use hand sanitizer. We try to distance from people as best we can. But here is our point, we have to live and we will live and enjoy every bit, every minute of our lives. Hiding in our homes we feel will only delay the inevitable. This virus must run its course, shutting down America, wrecking our economy is not the answer, nor will it ever be. We now look forward to the spring and car shows. Will car shows be effected in 2021, we sure hope not. Car shows are needed to get people back outside, living their lives and engaging in life. For folks our age, church and car shows maybe one of our only ways to interact with people. I feel we have all found out how important that interaction with friends and family truly is. Elizabeth and I will go to every car show we have the opportunity to attend and we hope you will also. Our first show will be Emerald Coast Cruizin March 11-13 in Panama City Beach, FL. We hope to see you there! COVID 19 may have hit home with us, but we survived it and we will move forward, loving God and life to its fullest! Til next month…

February brings us the sweetest day of the year; the day synonymous with love and hearts. It is also the day for candy and By Candy Cocktail flowers, both of which I am certainly a fan of. However while not an enthusiastic fan of the day made for couples, I am always curious to learn more about the origin of the unique, historical days we observe every year. Some of our holidays and traditions might seem downright odd to someone from another country. For many of us, our fondness for the holiday began as children when we passed out our Valentines cards and conversation hearts to classmates, maybe even a schoolyard crush. While historians often debate the exact origin of the romantic day, what researchers do know is that the backstory is actually somewhat dark. Some believe the holiday was an effort to “Christianize” the pagan observance of Lupercalia, fertility festival for the Roman god of agriculture. So the day of cards and candy is much like Christmas and Halloween where many of the modern traditions associated with the holiday originated from pagan roots. There are also rumors that the day of love was created to honor the mythical founders of Rome. The Romans' Lupercalia feast was held from February 13-15, when the men ran naked through the streets, sacrificed animals and slapped women with the blood-soaked hides of the slain animals as they believed it promoted fertility. Then the drunk men drew the names of women from a jar so they would be matched. (Yes, that is really what is cited on several reliable websites). The Catholic Church recognizes a dozen different saints bearing the names Valentine or Valentinus so it has long been disputed as to which Mr. Valentine was indeed the inspiration for the day. In 300 AD the Roman emperor, believing single men made better warriors, banned marriage for young men. Then a priest named Valentine secretly continued to perform marriages for young couples. When they learned of his actions, he was put to death on February 14. While imprisoned, Valentine cared for his fellow prisoners and also his jailor's blind daughter. The legend, according to History.com, says that Valentine cured the girl's blindness and that his final act before being executed was to write her a message of love signed 'From your Valentine'. The sentiment became forever linked to the most romantic day of the year. St. Valentine is also the patron Saint of plague victims and beekeepers. Which with the current plague sweeping our entire planet, possibly means we need the love of Valentine's Day more than ever. February 14 is also considered the first day of spring in Britain because it is the beginning of birds' mating season. An occasion for sweethearts to celebrate their love and show affection with gifts

among pink and red decor, in 1537, was declared a holiday by king Henry VIII. In Shakespeare's day, people believed that the first two single people who met in the morning of Valentine's Day were likely to get married. In Wales, many people celebrate St. Dwynwen's Day in January in addition to Valentine's Day, as she is the patron saint of Welsh lovers. It was 14th century poet Chaucer whose poem first linked romance to St. Valentine's Day, writing, “For this was on Saint Valentine's Day when every fowl comes there his mate to take.” Like his friend William Shakespeare, he helped popularize the amorous associations of the day telling tales of courtly love between knights and fair maidens. Soon people began writing and exchanging love letters to celebrate the special day in February. By the early 1910s, the American company that would eventually become the iconic card store Hallmark, started distributing their official “Valentine's Day cards.” At the time it was known as Halls Bros. when they sold their first V Day card to celebrate love in 1913. Hallmark's website states that 45 million Valentine's Day cards are sent each year. And what about the chubby cherub known as Cupid? The winged baby shooting arrows of love through the hearts of men and women the world over became iconic over a century ago. While Cupid graced paintings throughout the 14th to 17th centuries, he did not become the character synonymous with the holiday until the 1800s when he began appearing on Valentine's Day cards. In Roman mythology, Cupid was the son of Mars, the god of war, and quite appropriately, Venus, the goddess of love and beauty. In the United States, the first mass-produced Valentines made of paper lace were produced and sold after 1847 by Esther Holland whose father operated a large book and stationary store. In Italy, Saint Valentine's keys are given to lovers "as a romantic symbol and an invitation to unlock the giver's heart.”

Wikipedia described how in 2016, Catholic Bishops of England and Wales established a novena prayer to support single people seeking a spouse ahead of St Valentine's. In recent years, the day after Valentine's Day, February 15, has become unofficially known as “Singles Awareness Day” to celebrate the singles of the world. During the Victorian Era, if a woman did not want attention from certain suitors, she would send “vinegar valentines,” also called penny dreadfuls, to reject the suitors' attention. The X in XOXO came to represent a kiss at the end of a valentine because historically an “x” was used to sign off on documents. After marking it, the writer would often kiss the mark as a sign of their oath. Eventually the gesture grew in popularity as these records were “sealed with a kiss.” Hugs & kisses is the perfect post script for a letter on the day for love. However do not expect to celebrate Valentine's Day just anywhere; countries like Iran, West Malaysia, Pakistan and Saudi Arabia have partially or completely banned the holiday due to “western decadence.” There is even a group in India that holds protests against the holiday every year. Valentine's Day is also the anniversary of one of the deadliest mob shootouts in history when Chicago's notorious gangsters Al Capone and Bugs Moran's mobsters collided. More than 1,000 bullets went flying in 1929 at The St. Valentine's Day Massacre. Like Cupid and the traditional Valentine's Day card, a heart-shaped box of chocolate has become equally symbolic. According to NPR, this is likely because chocolate was seen by the Aztecs as an aphrodisiac. The belief in chocolate as the elixir of love gained it a reputation that spread across Europe, however it was liquid and expensive, making it out of reach for anyone that was not royalty. Then in 1837 Queen Victoria made it more affordable for the masses where it was eventually made into a moldable paste. In 1861, Richard Cadbury launched fancy, ornate boxes with treats nestled in lace doilies. Seven years later the box was given its signature heart shape for the romantic holiday and could be saved as a box for mementos after the chocolates were finished. Today scientists have tested as to whether the chocolate legends are true, finding little evidence of any libido-boosting properties. 58 million pounds of chocolate are purchased during the week of Valentine's Day. Candy is the most popular gift for showing appreciation. 21% of people have stated they get their pet a gift. The total of Valentine's Day related domestic spending for 2020 was estimated to be a staggering $27.4 billion. Enjoy your Valentine's Day with the one you love, or with the family and friends that make life sweeter! And if you are single like me, at least stop by your local store and take advantage of the unsold candy that will be on clearance on the 15th. Following the proven “muscle car” formula, as American as Hot Dogs & Apple Pie, this Blazer used Chevrolet's smallest frame for the class, the SUV class, & shoved the largest engines inside. A weeny inline 6 was standard, but one could (in later years) get it stuffed with motivation as large as a 6.6 liter 400 horsepower V8, or a 6.2 liter Detroit Diesel! Now we're talking hearts fluttering for all the right reasons. They could have called it the Chevy Defibrillator. Chevrolet produced the Blazer to compete with Ford's Bronco & Jeep's CJ, as well as the International Harvester Scout. The Blazer sold well, thanks to its lower price, larger space, the Dana transfer case, 8 inches of ground clearance, & luxuries like automatic transmission & air conditioning options. GMC made its own version, calling them “Jimmy's” - an audible slang of “GM” like the name “Jeep.” The GMC Jimmy became the Yukon, the Chevy Blazer became the Tahoe. The long wheel base version of the Blazer is now the Suburban. Chevy let us all celebrate the 50th year of the Blazer at SEMA in 2019 (that's 2019 PP, or “Pre-Panic”). Originally its list price was around $3,300. One in very good shape today runs about $40,000, with one fully restored reaching $220,000 at auction. Since we know inflation is headed this way like a tsunami, note that when this Blazer sold, a gallon of gas was $0.32, about the same as a gallon of milk. The Blazer provided a rate of return of about 5.12% per year. The milk returns about 4.39% per year. Gold returned 8.32% yearly over the same period. But only the Blazer juices the cardiogram! Sure. Whatever. But Dodi is truly sweet & in typical the best nurse fashion, adapted to the circumstances like a Champion, even despite the unexpectedly cold weather. We forged ahead; shivering, but forging (“forgshiving?”). Admirably, not surprisingly, it's Dodi's work ethic, the True American Git-er-done attitude. This is who you want working on you when the little cardiogram you're hooked up to goes flat. It could also be that she is so much in love with genuine Blazers. She said this one was making her heart flutter! That was probably the 31-degree weather & snow flakes that enveloped the shoot, piercing even to the joints & marrow as it blew all too easily through the barn-that-we-thought-was-going-to-be-heated. Or maybe it was due to a loose muffler strap. Whatever, Dodi was truly agitated or stimulated, by it all. The cardiogram was jumping. She did volunteer that she loved the escapism of this photoshoot from her day job. So maybe the freezing helped take her mind off things? No, it had to be the Blazer. familiar with us already from our growing YouTube channel. He seemed to already know who we were. Joe talked to us about our Hughes chassis that we were racing as well as our new MB Custom chassis that we had at home for 2021. We enjoyed talking to Joe and looked forward to racing with him!
1/11/21 Welcome back everyone!!! Hope you all are doing well! I apologize for missing my deadline for last month's article! It just snuck up on me, and I didn't want to rush something together! Let's get to it!!! So, we left off last time with engine troubles at Whynot. The “money eater” (as we rightfully named it) had broken again! We decided to take it to an engine builder who had a dyno this time. We wanted to know for sure that it was good to go when we picked it up. We brought it to Mr. Ronnie Rogers at Wall2Wall Performance Engines. He determined it had a cracked head, but even though everything else was brand new and built right, he wanted to completely redo everything so it would all be on him if something failed…fair enough with me! I mentioned to him, at the time we dropped it off, that we would like to have it back for a big upcoming race at Deep South Speedway in Loxley, Alabama. It was honestly an unrealistic deadline for an engine builder. However, 2 days before the big race I received a call from Mr. Ronnie to let me know that our engine was on the dyno!!! Off we went to Moselle, MS where we witnessed our engine take on some serious abuse and keep on begging for more! When the dust settled, we were looking at a 385 c.i. small block Chevy combo (400 block 350 crank) that was making 633 horsepower and 540 ft lbs of torque right before our eyes! We were very pleased with the final product and Mr. Ronnie offered up a substantial sponsorship to help us out! We couldn't be more excited to have these amazing partnerships with so many great people who want to help our team grow! This engine had just recently hit us pretty hard in the pocketbook, so this sponsorship was right on time! Now, let's get home and swap engines again! With just 1 day left before we were to leave for Loxley, we had a bunch to do! We went to work and got it done, and off we went to Deep South Speedway! Thursday… Open Practice Night Everything went smooth and we were loaded and ready to roll for practice. The buzz on social media was that we could expect to see some stout competition for the weekend including “Big Daddy” Joe Duvall from Justice, Oklahoma!!! This was exciting news for us because Joe is very well known in modified racing across the country, and Joe also drives a MB Custom chassis which is what our new chassis is! We were excited to have a chance to possibly meet Joe. Practice went well for us as we made our fastest lap-times ever at Deep South! We were at least a half a second faster than we had ever been! The “Money Eater” was pulling strong and getting to the ground! After 4 or 5 rounds of practice, Chase and myself decided we had collected enough data for the night, and we began getting the car ready for Friday nights qualifying and heat races! As we finished up for the night, we looked up and saw a big nice toter-rig pulling in the pits looking for somewhere to park. They stopped by us and asked if we minded if they pitted beside us? Of course we didn't mind, and come to find out it was THE “Big Daddy” Joe Duvall himself! We met him and his one-man crew! I think Joe was

Friday…Qualifying and Heat Races We had a hot-lap session Friday before qualifying and Chase was in the top 5 fastest out of the 25-car field. This was exciting! Chase rolled out for qualifying around halfway of the field and on his first lap he went to the top of the leader board with the fastest time so far! The celebration was short as Raymond, Mississippi's Brooks Strength (444) stole our thunder! Brooks also drives an MB Custom Chassis. When qualifying ended, we found ourselves 5th fastest overall! Still not too bad considering the talent we were up against in this huge field of modifieds! We checked the line up boards to find that we would be starting front row outside in the 2nd heat beside Joe Duvall! The track was one grooved already and it was going to be a drag race for the preferred line in turn 1! Joe and Chase fired simultaneously, but it was Chase who lead them into turn 1 first! However, Chase (being on the outside line) wasn't sure if he had cleared Joe, so he didn't take the preferred groove which put Joe back out front coming out of turn 2. Caution flag… for a spin in the rear of the field. Here we go for try number 2. I'm about to go insane because I have no-way to communicate to Chase that he had beaten Joe to the turn and should've taken the groove going into turn 1! Now we are about to go again and find out if he got lucky or if we were faster off the start! Green flag!!! Here comes Chase first to the corner again! SAME THING!!! Chase stayed high (in the marbles) to prevent possibly crashing him and Joe Duvall! CAUTION FLAG!!!....Now I'm about to climb the fence! Lol…We are going to get another try…Green flag… SAME THING…In Chase's defense, I'm glad that he didn't chop the line off and cause a wreck, however, by him being so generous all 3 times, he fell back to 5th and battled to get to 4rd before the checkered. The finish of this race determined our starting spot for the feature event! Now Joe Duvall will start front row outside while Chase will be starting 11th in the main event Saturday night. Saturday…Main Event TIME! We got word that after the races Friday night, “Big Daddy” Joe Duvall had said he was quite surprised that Chase had beat him (3 times) to the corner, but he didn't capitalize on his position, which left it open for Joe to easily take the line back. This was kind of a compliment, since most people would have just turned down and TOOK the line. However, this was also eye-opening to Chase because, what Chase felt like he should have done, is exactly what this veteran driver had expected him to do, BUT HE DIDN'T! Sometimes in racing though, being courteous will earn you respect later with a fellow competitor! We got on the phone Saturday morning with Noah Daspit and told him how everything was going. We did our best to translate how the car was performing and what adjustments we had done. Noah made several suggestions to try if the track continued to get slicker! As our event got closer, we kept a close eye on the racetrack. They gave us a final hot-lap session and Chase laid down the 2nd overall fastest lap time out of the 22-car field! He seemed to be on a mission as he was laser focused on his car and

set-up! Meanwhile, Joe Duvall came and sat with Adrian and I and struck up a conversation. Joe was very interested in Chase's future plans and he offered up an opportunity for Chase to come out to Oklahoma this coming summer and travel/race with him for months! That was exciting news and it meant a lot to us for Joe to even offer such an opportunity to Chase. Joe said some more kind things about Chase's driving skills and his demeanor off the track. We really appreciated his sincerity…We think Chase is awesome too, but we're his parents…so it felt good to hear this coming from someone we had just met. Now it's time to race!!! We knew we had a long way to go to get to the front, but as Adrian, Chase, and I were talking before the race…that's where the title of this particular video on YouTube was born! “MAMA SAID BE AGGRESSIVE!!! Fighting For The Groove at Deep South Speedway” (If you search Chase Holland Racing on YouTube for this title you will find it's our most popular video to date.) Adrian explained to Chase that this was his last race in this particular car. (the Hughes Chassis) She requested that he be aggressive and try to win! As they dropped the green, I was amazed at how fast his car was! A combination of that new Wall2Wall powerplant, combined with the set-up adjustments from Noah, mixed in with mama's commands…folks, we have ourselves a rocket ship!!! Ironically, “Big Daddy” started front row outside and got hung in the slick on the outside as Chase passed him for 8th position on lap number 2! Joe fell in behind Chase and the 2 of them marched through the field, and back to the front together! On the restarts
Chase and Joe raced each other hard and clean, and man what a race it was!!! They continued to work their way through the field which eventually found Chase in 3rd and Joe in 4th on a restart. After a couple more cautions and restarts, our luck ran out as Chase got tangled up in a racing incident with a guy out of Arkansas. They both wanted the line and there wasn't enough room to share, so with just 5 laps remaining our night was ending with a tore up car and some hurt feelings! Joe went on to finish 3rd. It sucks, but it's all part of what we do! On the bright side we met some new fans, met some new competitors, opened up some new opportunities, and this awesome performance helped us sell the Hughes chassis so we can spend more money on the new MB Custom in 2021! Overall this has been our best racing season EVER!!! Even with all the craziness going on, we were able to travel as a family and enjoy the sport that we love so much! I can't even begin to list all the people who I'm so grateful for! Most importantly, I want to thank God! Thank you all for reading my articles, watching our YouTube, and supporting us!!!
