ACTIVE EDUCATION Dixie State University provides personalized and engaged learning experiences under the direction of skilled and devoted faculty and staff members.

DSU is a teaching institution, so professors’ sole focus is teaching students.


• Assist at the DSU Preschool. • Participate in student government. • Film your own movie with the Film Department. • Study abroad. • Intern for the University and help run DSU’s social media accounts. • Conduct archival work in the Special Collections section of DSU’s library or at local museums. • Help international students improve their English skills. • Help manage a financial portfolio of real assets totaling more than $150,000. • Submit a play for Dixie’s Second Act New Works Festival. • Work with the Bureau of Land Management to conduct research on area plants.


Students stay and study in Zion National Park as part of DSU’s Experiential Learning program.


Dental Hygiene students use their mobile clinic to offer free X-rays, screenings, and cleanings to homebound patients.

Education majors conduct field research and teach workshops to sixth and seventh-grade students in the nearby Virgin River Gorge.

Students in DSU’s Southern Utah Marketing Resources provide services for local businesses associated with their fields.

Spanish students participate in full-immersion courses abroad, living with locals and participating in service-learning projects.

Accounting students offer free income tax preparation to community members as part of the IRS’ Volunteer Income Tax Assistance program.

The Student Success Center offers free tutoring, research and writing assistance, advisement, and career services to help students achieve their educational and personal goals.

Dixie State houses six academically rigorous yet diverse colleges that prepare students for a variety of careers; however, DSU is emerging as a leader in health science, business, and technology education. • 100% of Medical Radiography graduates pass the National Credentialing Exams on the first attempt. • Dental Hygiene graduates score in the top 10% on the National Licensure Exam. • 100% of Respiratory Therapy graduates pass the National Credentialing Exams on the first attempt. • 100% of Surgical Technology students pass the National Credentialing Exams on the first attempt. • DSU hosts the world-renowned Computer Crime Institute that trains law enforcement officials around the globe on its state-ofthe-art technology. • DSU’s technology talent pipeline prepares students to meet the significant demand for quality programmers, designers and developers in the technology marketplace. • The overall business school ranks in the 89th percentile.



College of Humanities & Social Sciences

Dixie State is the only institution in Utah to offer four-year degrees in Criminal Justice with emphases in Criminology and Digital Forensics.

College of Business & Communication

Business and web technology classes regularly produce start-up tech companies and offer students the support they need to start successful businesses.

College of Health Sciences

Every summer, DSU and Dixie Regional Medical Center send two students to the BIO-X Summer Undergraduate Research Internship Program at Stanford University, where they work on cutting-edge cancer genomics research.

College of the Arts

As part of the Digital Painting class, students use digital resources to realize painted images. Also, faculty mentor students on how to use the Internet and social media to build an online brand as an artist.

College of Science & Technology

Students learn web technologies from Dixie State’s faculty and private industry leaders during the intensive Code School held every summer.

College of Education

The Miner Active Learning Classroom includes four stations equipped with the latest technology to prepare education majors to integrate innovative learning tools into their future classrooms.

#thedixielife • Students apply the annual coat of whitewash to the iconic D on the Hill during D-Week, a tradition that has been a mainstay since the D was built in 1915. • Students trudge through the dreaded mud pit and other obstacles as they compete in the storied Great Race each spring. • D-Queen and Miss Dixie pageants offer students the opportunity to compete for scholarships. • Clubs, athletic teams, academic departments, and community members all come together to create a memorable Homecoming Parade each fall.

The Good Neighbor Program and Western Undergraduate Exchange Waiver allow qualified students from most Western states to attend Dixie State at 150 percent of the in-state tuition rate.
