Living the Aussie rock dream, After the Fall hit Tasmania this month for gigs at both ends of the state. The central coast rockers who shot to prominence in 2004 have endured a meteoric rise over the last 18 months, gigging and rockin’ around the world. The new album “Always Forever Now” and the album’s first single, “Concrete Boots” should underline all the reasons these boys are here to stay. Congratulations on the release of the new album, “Always Forever Now”. I understand you had Kevin Shirley, who has worked with artists like Led Zeppelin, The Black Crowes and Aerosmith mix the album, how did that come about? We were talking to Richard, our producer, about who we were going to get to mix the album. We had this dream list, we’d written down a bunch of names and his name was one of them. It turned out that he could do it and that he was keen to do it and his parents were living out here, so it was good that he could come out here and had somewhere to stay and we didn’t have to out him up so it worked out well. You guys get described as a punk band. Do you think that’s a fair description? How do you guys see yourselves?
Nah. I just like music and I don’t really care about descriptions or that kind of thing. I think if you describe someone as punk it seems like there’s this whole other thing that goes with it and you’ve got all this stuff to live up to and I don’t want to have all that other rubbish go with our music. I just want to be able to play the guitar and play our songs. I just want to worry about the music. It’s about music it’s not about anything else. In simple terms, it’s about rock n’ roll. It’s guitars, drums, singing. When you take it down to its bare bones, that’s what it is. I’d be happier with rock n’ roll as a description. The last 18 months have been pretty full on for you? We’ve had two albums, a year apart, and we’ve done a lot in that time. I don’t know how many shows. We’ve done a lot of shows around the country. We went over the States in March and did five shows in four days which was a pretty good experience. It was different, but the same. It was good to go over there, see what it was like and play in another country.
Do you think it changed the band at all in terms of seeing other people play and seeing how the industry works over there? No not really. It’s funny. We take the piss out of everything. I guess at the South by South-West festival there’s just thousands and thousands of bands playing and we played a couple of shows with these English bands and a couple of bands from the States and they get up there like they’re playing Wembley and we’re laughing at how serious they took it. They’re like, “Yeah we’re here to get massive, to get (record) deals, we’re going to play like we’re in a massive stadium", but they’re playing in a shitty and dilapidated pub with half a stage and broken toilet and we’re like, “Who are these people kidding?” People can see through that stuff and we definitely saw through it. So we just did our thing, got up and played our songs and did the best we could. At the end of the day that’s all you’re ever going to be remembered for. It is your songs, not how much of a wank you had on stage. I read when you guys go on tour and get a bit bored some of you like to light your farts up,
is that true? Yeah, that’s Chris and me. On the last tour we were lighting farts in the van. You’d be half asleep and suddenly you’d hear, “who’s got a lighter?” and they’d pass a lighter down then you’d see a 12 inch flame coming out of someone’s pants. Then we’d have a laugh and go back to sleep. Did you show the Americans these abilities? No we pretty much just taught them how to swear. We swore a lot, and the word cunt is a big no, no in America, and we’d been saying that a lot and it was the funniest thing ever. Overall, you seem to be living the classic Aussie, young man’s rock star dream: playing shows and sinking piss, eating junk food and releasing albums. Is there anything that could be better than what you’re doing now? An income! That would be good, because I don’t have one…at all. I got booted off the dole and pretty much up shit creek without a paddle. So that would be the icing on the cake. Then I’d be pretty happy. That’s why I’ve got to stay on tour, because when we’re on tour we get food.

What a treat for a Sunday evening.....Three acts in neat precision....The night kicked off with BOB EVANS, who honed his skills as the main songwriter for JEBEDIAH. His intimate, acoustic performance of heartfelt songs satisfied the dedicated band of followers at the front and earned him a few new fans too. “Stevie’s Song” was a moving and memorable track and inspired my friend to spend a little cash at the counter on the way out. Sisters TEGAN & SARA, on loan from Canada, proved themselves professional, consumate performers. With three albums under their belts they were an excellent choice as a lead in to Little Birdy and I thought the stand out performance of the evening. Their blend of Cocteau Twins style harmonies with an indie pop sensibility and precise delivery was a winning combination.
As I walked through the infamous doors of the Republic Bar in Hobart on an unforgettable Wednesday night I saw a rather unusual number of caps on backwards and sweat bands swaying to the hip hop beats of the support bands. The crowed loved them but they all were here to jump, dance, sway and groove to the unique beat of Butterfingers
It’s been a while since my last clubbing expedition but I was keen as curry to relive one of my favorite pastimes, and Reality did not disappoint.

Having their mum in tow on merchandise added to the ‘all in family’ vibe they reflected. There has been much praise for music from the west of late (Fdel is on high rotation at Fresh just now!) and LITTLE BIRDY did nothing to dispel such accolades. Katy Steele’s vocals and performance proved the focus for the band with Martha Davis (The Motels) vocal style and a fantastic stage presence. Her use of vocal effects added an interesting dimension to her voice, which proved to be a little more edgy live, than recorded but had an amazing range. The other players were somewhat over shadowed but keen musucians and provided an excellent support to her talents. The guitar tech seemed to be on stage as much as the band and although it was amusing it proved a little distracting. “Beautiful To Me” and “Tonight’s The Night” were well performed and stood out on a night of quality music. The two new songs that were showcased had a driving quality absent from past recordings ans gave flavour to potential direction. Three encores were unexpected but well received by the not so large but satisfied crowd. All three acts had an air of dedication and here’s me hoping their hard work pays off!!

@ The Huon Quays - August 12 By Dane Hunnerup
Tommy Butler and Dameza started the night off. Tommy with his usual wit and charm warmed and tenderized the crowd and Dameza with his magnificent touch on the decks ably supported (congratulations must go to Dameza as well for taking out the Tasmanian heat of the DMC championships). Along with guests these guys waltzed their way through a battery of groove and rhymes as people trickled in and the place filled up. Unleash the Nugget took the stage with about 400 folks amped, tipsy and ready to jive and the Nugget have certainly become the premium Tasmanian band to jive to. These guys have gone up another level � their new tunes have a solid core of hard-hitting jazz hop and the line-up change, although curious in the removal of two artists who have been with the group since the start has tightened their MC line-up and I think Les on trombone will ably fill Marty�s shoes one day. You can hear more and more of a J5 influence coming out in their work which is endearing but also slightly derivative, having said that though their unique brand of jazz-hop is really working for them and I�d be willing to place bets on them getting a spot at the Falls this year. When the Nugget finished the Downsyde DJ took the stage delivering a journey through time of old-school hip hop while the equipment was set up for the main guys of the night. Probably the funniest moment of the night was when he dropped Cypress Hill in the mix and cut it out so all the young white folks could sing together �A Nigger Like Me Is Going Insane�. In their own good time Downsyde took the stage � set up incredibly well by a great lighting technician they dropped an air raid siren and then smashed in with bone jarring bass. Their tunes and work seem to have developed since they were last in town, some new grooves and pieces shone out in the mix. It was obvious that they were tired � being the last gig of a national tour I�m not surprised but they fought through it with style and grace. Most impressive was their multi-tasking bass player/sample dropper who was all over the groove and laid it down thick and hard.

I managed to worm my way upstairs to guys were chilling before the concert and get to know a bit about these rather cool cats. They are based in the sunny part of oz Brisbane. The boys have played in Hobart two times before and both times our little state has showed them that even though we are small on the map we still know how to have a good time. The Lads have been staying at their friends house down in Geeveston (of all places), they think that Tasmania is a sick place but too cold to live. I would have to agree on this comment. The drummer is a very chilled out guy who picked up the sticks cuz his friend needed a drummer in a high school band. (a valid reason.) He has no kids but an amazing wife who I found out is a makeup artist and mostly does musicians up for their big moments ie-music clips. As time went by and the beer got low it was time for these guys to bust out and rock the Republic, and that they did. I managed to get right up the front so I could get the best view and not get crushed by the crowed. They seemed to be a very energetic crowed, either that or very drunk.. Butterfingers played a good mix of music and they crowd seemed to love some of their more hip hop punk stuff, If you can call it that! Lets just say they have a very unique sound. As the clocked ticked 2 and I remembered I had to work at 9am I decided to call it a night and left.
QUE - ROOBS @ Syrup By Dane Hunnerup
I’ve been along to a few of these Syrup gigs now and I find it very interesting what the Syrup folk are up to. For those who don’t know Hobart night life that well Syrup is usually the most populated dance music night club in town, and it’s been that way for a while. First up was The Que Experience. These guys burst onto the scene a few months ago with a sound that many people’s ears have been starving to hear for some time now. Their uni(que) take on progressive instrumental rock is truly refreshing, taking long back roads into ambient sound sculpture and minimalist toning they slowly bring it to the boil with thrashing guitars and a snare that seems to almost run away. It’s definitely music you could have sex to, if you played it underwater for long enough I imagine whales would beach themselves to it as well. This gig was another notch on the belt for these young fellas. They are certainly working through it and their repertoire was added to again as is the case with most of their gigs at the moment. They do push quite a few buttons for me and I really hate to say this but I would love to see them with a singer – I know it could risk taking away their defining element but with a front person who wasn’t too invasive it could really help them go from being Hobart’s new indie thing to perhaps something that could be appealing to a much wider audience if that was something that they were looking for. Another great one for these guys and I’m certainly excited to watch these guys grow. On the other end of the spectrum, after a brief break, were Hobart’s own pigs of rock The Roobs. Possibly the most popular pub rock band in Tassie at the moment these folks never miss a chance to get their cocks (and clit) out on stage and really give it the what for and this time was no exception. With their line-up locked in and nailed down hard with TJ on the drums they really know how to make a party and their party was assisted in particular this time by a new investment in the bands equipment. Chonga now has a radio mic. Yes, it might be a good idea to run and hide, Chonga’s in-your-face stylings are now reaching into the crowd and even onto and behind the bar and wherever else his fancy might take him (does anyone else remember Chonga in the rafters at The Venue?). Nobody is safe and nothing is sacred when the Roobs are on stage.

eSKay had the floor packed and the room pumping with his infectious funky electro house, and the happy campers chilling on the staircase added that old school charm. Honey, I’m home! Joycie came on next with the difficult task of joining the ‘funky’ to the high NRG hard dance that was to come. Some were confused, others just needed a well earned cigarette (god damn that no smoking law!). The battle raged on until our champion had reclaimed the floor. Early signs of “whoo-hooing” and a dancing John Ferris had Joycie beaming and set the precedent for the rest of the night. 3am was upon me, and with a little help from my friends, I was prepped and champing at the bit for the full effect of Mr. Ferris. Sporting a black “Save Ferris” T (a la Ferris Beuler’s day off), the emphasis was on fun and our hero was only too happy to deliver. Pounding beats and driving bass lines pushed the crowd into overdrive. Sweat streaming, nimble fingers busy with creativity, Ferris put on one hell of a show, whooping all the way. Mutual love between DJ and crowd spread thru the club like wild fire and then he was gone! Joycie gladly accepted the reigns, still soggy with passion, and brought the night home for us. Kudos to all involved in creating a sensational night for this old raver
SONIC DISTORTION @ Batman Fawkner Inn - July 30 By Ryan Cooke
A cold winter’s night in Launceston greeted punters as Launnie got its first taste of Sonic Distortion. First cab off the rank were Devonport’s Abacinate, I believe this was their first ever show. Their mix of aggressive death/thrash metal went over well with the audience. The singer’s vocals had more of an old school metal feel, and his lows were great. The crowd had grown to a decent size by the time Mephistopheles took the stage. These kids are freaky - the skills and speed they play at! My sources tell me the drummer is only 15 years old, but the skills he has would scare most. Next up were Burnie boys Intense Hammer Rage. This is the first time I had ever seen these guys, after their famous run in with the law a few years back. I had been looking forward to seeing them and they didn’t disappoint. One of the tightest bands locally I have seen, their performance had more of a head banging vibe than a lot of the other bands. Alarum were interesting to say the least, they seemed to draw influences from everything - from old school metal, right through to jazz. The energy they played with blew everyone else outta the water. Last but not least were Launnie’s hometown heroes, Zero Degrees Freedom. They keep getting better every time I see them. This was actually the first time I had seen the complete lineup. Keyboardist Andy may always look out of place and bored on stage but his playing makes up for it all. ZDF are so smooth it should be against the law. One of the best metal nights Launceston has seen.
THE QUE, JOHNNY SHUTUP & SWEDISH MAGAZINES @ Syrup - August 27 | By David Williams
I rocked up at 3:25 thinking that I was 25 minutes late, but The Que were still setting up. It was news to me that The Que were playing at all. I thought it was just The Dealers (USA) and Swedish Magazines. But The Dealers had just pulled out – they weren’t willing to take their gear up the stairs of Syrup and were apparently not happy with the Salamanca market being on as they found parking difficult. This was according to Christopher “Gibbo”, who books the bands for Syrup. I paid my $2 for a Coke - I was working after all, but more to the point it was only 3:30 pm on a Saturday and alcohol before 6 pm means an early night for me. So I waited while The Que sound-checked etc. First on were The Que: massive rock sound scapes leading to greater and greater climaxes, awesome musicianship, everyone playing as a unit without outshining/overplaying their role – held together strongly by both the drummer and guitarist. The lead guitarist Matt, reminds me of the Edge in his early days. The bassist is so good that you feel his effect without knowing its really there. Overall, they were like an early U2 but with no vocals - no Bono. The songs lack variation, but as a style have a strong impact. With more variety and a singer of adaptability, these guys could go from good to fucking great. Their music is not so rocking, but stirring with ever building crescendos and tension. Johnny Shutup were on next – and these girls are the most punk band I’ve heard since Lydia Lunch or the Dead Kennedy’s. From even before they’d played a note their anarchic attitude smashed into the atmosphere, as they told a punter/heckler to shut up. From the first note to the last they played hard, fast – they made me want to smash shit up. They were fucking great. Energy, attitude, anarchy. I want more! The Swedish Magazines from Melbourne were last, tight and strong but were more conventional pop rock. It didn't grab me as much.

You had been touring with the End of Fashion, what have you been up to since that wound up? It has been a little bit quiet, after Nathan’s infamous sleepwalking incident. Who found him? I don’t know, he just somehow made it back to his bed and he was just going, “my knee, my knee.” It was swollen up like a grapefruit and we just thought he’d twisted it or something in the night and we drove back down to Sydney and then broke down in Newcastle, or blew a tyre that was really hard to replace. So it turned into a 16 hour journey and then he had to go to hospital the next day because the knee got infected.
Race The Fray By Nita Walker
Melbourne’s four piece punk rock band, Race the Fray are due to grace our shore’s on September the 9th and 10th, supported by Hobart’s Ballpoint. Their second EP, this art will play, is due for release in September, followed by a national tour. I caught up with Swifty (Andrew Swift, lead guitar). Coming to Tassie for the third time in less than 11/2 years... You must be pretty committed to us! What keeps bringing you back? We love Tassie! We played our first shows in Tasmania with Gus & Frank in about July last year. It was the best time we had had being on the road. So we jumped to the opportunity to make a second visit later last year. We are hoping to be able to have as much fun this time. The atmosphere at a live show in Tassie is some of the best in Australia! "This Art Will Play" is the new EP yeah? Are there any tracks that are a favourite? That’s right; “This Art Will Play” is our second E.P to hit the shelves. Personally I have found it really hard to pick a favourite track from this new E.P. Listening back to it each song intrigues me in a different way, and there are parts
Didn’t you have a spare? On the trailer they didn’t give us a tyre jack to get the tyre off, so then we eventually got someone to come down with a jack, but then they didn’t even have the spare in the trailer. In the end they had to drive us up another car from Sydney. You should sack the tour manager. (laughs) We didn’t even have a proper tour manager, so there’s no one to sack.
we had a recording studio in the warehouse where Nathan and I lived. I played on a few of their recordings as well. But their live show, I always thought their guitars were a bit messy. I used to go around saying, “I really should be in that band.” I said that for a couple of years then Nathan said, “well come on, do it. They’re looking for a guitarist and I jumped at it. I’ve heard other bands say that in Sydney there is a real emphasis on what bands wear and image and all that. How true is that? To start with, we’re all living a dream. To do this, to play in bands, although it’s hard work for no money, you’re kind of living your alter ego. And when I see bands I like to see them dressed up and put on a big show so they appear larger than life. You don’t just want to walk out on stage in your shorts and t-shirt like you’ve been bumming around on the beach. I think it’s important to get up there and make a bit of an effort. I don’t think people go over the top. There’s a reality in the industry that people want to have identifiable characters in their band and that makes it a marketable thing. Now I don’t
think we think about that too much, but we like looking sharp though. I mean look at Kiss, they were a good example. How did you get started playing guitar, was it early or late? Really early, about grade five. Both my mum and dad used to play guitar, they used to play a lot at parties. So it was always in the family, so I just used to pick it up from there. I learnt three chords and played as many songs as I could. And then as you grow up and your music taste changes and so I got my first electric guitar when I was in my early teens and I was trying to learn all the songs I used to hear on the radio and on all the records I bought. I used to follow my brother into various bands. He’d be in a band and then he’d go, “this is my little brother on guitar” so I’d jump in and join that band. I think I followed him into three or four bands (laughs).
You’re based in Sydney, correct? Yeah we are except for Paul. He lives in Adelaide still. How does that work then, if you guys are all based in Sydney? Well, he just comes up here and spends a lot of time on our couches basically. He’s built for the road, that man, he’s a rock n’ roll machine and he handles it really well. How did you get together if he’s from Adelaide and you guys are from Sydney? Well he joined the band before me. They were looking for a new drummer because things weren’t working out with the old one, so he was just in the loop and heard about it. He was playing for The Super Jesus at the time and he heard the songs, and he was able to come in and bring it all together. He’s a rock solid drummer and he’s pulled it right, tight together. And I’d known the band for a few years also and I saw the difference that he made was excellent. I was aware of the band, they used to come in and record,
in every song that I hang out to hear. You know when you listen to a song and you just wait for a tight drum fill, or a stop or something that makes you go, “that was cool”... I think I’m rambling now. This isn’t the first time you and Hobart’s Ballpoint have played together what’s the deal there? Ahhh... Ballpoint. Yeah, we met Ballpoint the first time we visited Tasmania, and after the first couple of shows they were simply known as the “FARK Yeah” guys, that’s all we ever heard them say! They threw us an E.P of theirs and we organized a show for next time we visited. Since then we have had the guys come and support us in Melbourne, and they are joining us for the Victorian and Tasmanian shows of the tour. They are good blokes that are pretty much out of control, and good fun to be round!

To us it was a surprise (the first album) as we came up with something that better than we thought we were going to. Then with the second one we thought would be a real achievement for us and created something that we considered equally as good but we weren’t really thinking about how it would be received. You can’t really second guess that sort of stuff as the focus goes away from making an album to making something that somebody else is going to like. So we just focussed on writing the best songs as possible and recording the best album possible as well as making some sort of progression. In our eyes we achieved all those things. We produced an album that we think is better than the first album which has some sort of progression and is something that we can be proud of.
Sydney three-piece Peabody, hit Tasmanian shores this month for a series of shows. On the backside of a new album “The New Violence,” and a national tour, Leigh Dillon caught up with Bruno from the band to discuss life on the road, rock n’ roll cyborgs and the definition of what the band consider is the new violence. Your website describes the band’s journey as taking the road less travelled, what do you mean by that, is it a style thing, a direction, a set of ideals for the group? I’d like to say something as deep and meaningful as all that, but really it’s just some wanky thing that someone wrote in our bio. I think they meant that at the time we were playing music a little bit differently than all the bands that were around at the time in Sydney. We came out at a time when all the bands were playing slow post rock and we were playing upbeat, pop rock. I think that’s what was meant by that. So I guess at the time it was the road less travelled but now it’s come full circle and rock n’ roll is well and truly our focus. So the album, “The New Violence”, what do you think is the new violence? The new violence is a subtle economic oppression, actually it’s not that subtle so I guess that’s a form of it. It is one sided media coverage and the stranglehold they have on the information they give to people, I consider that a form of new violence. And then you’ve got the more overt sort of stuff like the occupation of smaller countries by other countries just because they feel like it. It’s all the things that
have been happening around the world in the last few years in the name of security and fighting what’s been perceived to be terrorism and we perceive that as being the new violence.
So what was the goal with the album and how close have you come to achieving it? I think the goal with the album was to make an album that we were as proud of as the first one.
You guys have been touring pretty solidly for about the last 18 months, what sort of effect does it have on your personal and social life, does it take its toll? It has an effect, and I could imagine that it would take its toll on people who really do a full-on tour for long periods like 18 months or two years. It makes you into this thing I call the rock n’ roll cyborg; someone who gets no sleep, drinks too much, drives, loads, sound checks, plays, drinks, sleeps for two hours, gets up and you get yourself into this pattern of ill health and ill mental health and that’s the rock n’ roll cyborg. You end up becoming a little bit socially retarded when you come back from tour.

You look to be masters of your own destiny by recording at your own studio, and organising much of the release off your own bat, how satisfying is that for the group? - It has it’s ups and downs really. I mean, it can be frustrating because we’re still new at all of this, and still learning etc, but then when you get played on the radio or get something big happen it’s really satisfying. This is your third album, and the first into Europe, how are you expecting the album to be received over there? Well, it’s being released in October and one song from our last record called ‘Jerusalem’ will be on there as well. The distro team and everyone involved over there think it will do quite well on radio, so who knows? So far the response been better than expected. How much mucking around was there to get the European distribution deal in place? Not really all that much. The way it happened was that one German guy stumbled across our website and then told his friends about it and they told they’re friends and then one of those people worked for Century Media/EMI and it all fell into place. It was pretty much stress free. How did the band get together? Kieran and I have been friends since like, we were 11 or something, and we’d been jamming ever since then. Then Joe put up an ad in a music store and it all went from there. Currently walking around Hobart there are about 12 exEnola Fall members. On your bio material and your website there seems to be this constant sense of fun and honesty, is that something that you guys have given much thought to and how important is fun and honesty to Enola Fall? Well, we don’t try and market ourselves as anything in particular, but whenever we do bios or whatever we kind of just take the micky out of it. To be honest, bios are incredibly silly in general. Also people seem to think that because our music is considered serious (as opposed to like Blink 182 joke band stuff) we sit at home and cut our wrists all the time or whatever and are really morose but we’re not at all. We take music seriously but that’s about it.

I’d hate that to happen to us, so if we did move we’d go to Sydney or something as it’s closest to Brisbane and Melbourne and has a great music scene that would suit our style pretty well. The new CD - “We Never Sleep”, are you excited, nervous, pumped up; what’s the vibe in the band? Well we’re kind of excited because we think it’s one of the better cd’s we’ve done, but anxious to see what everyone’s reaction is. It’s easily the most easy-listening thing we’ve ever done.

What have you guys been doing today? I was Djing last night, I mean this morning, at one of the big clubs in Ibiza and I haven’t really slept yet. It’s only about 11:20 in the morning. One thing about Ibiza, are they still holding Foam parties? I’m sure they probably are, but this is the first time I’ve been to this part of the world really. They are famous for it, but not where I was playing. I wouldn’t be something that I’d get involved in, it’s a bit kiddish really. The new album is called “Raw As F**k”, why didn’t you just call it “Raw As Fuck?” Well it's called “Raw As Fuck” but obviously for certain licensing laws you can’t stick the word

Mc chickaboo started out in Birmingham in 92 working with Get real. together with him she worked raves such as fantasia, dreamscape, jungle fever plus had various club dates all over the uk. Chickaboo has worked with some of the worlds best drum&bass dj’s such as: dj dazee, dj craze (dmc champ) jumping jack frost, storm, dj bailey, afrika bambaata to name only a few! She also works with different styles of music leading her to mc for djs such as Cosmo, nikki lucas and Soul2Soul, aswell as shows with reggae soundsystem Roots an Reality Now Chickaboo has progressed onto making tracks and has worked with: Timo Maas, Rennie Pilgrem, General Midi, Suda (Faithless).
Son of a jazz trumpeter, Rennie started life playing tenor saxophone and sitting with his Father’s various bands around Southern England. Later after getting heavily into ‘black’ music he formed various funk bands playing sax and keyboards. Rennie’s musical infatuation took a big twist when he heard the sounds coming out of Detroit in the late ‘80s. After making rudimentary House music on the wrong kind of drum machines with soon to be Rhythm Section members Ellis Dee, Richard Thake and Nick ‘Newton Scott, they had interest from (amongst others) the new British house label Guerrilla. Preferring to release their own material they formed Rhythm Section Recordings and became part of the wave of breakbeat house that went on to become known as Hardcore in the early ‘90’s.

How much of what you’d call breaks is on “Raw As Fuck?” The album is a breaks album but as far as Freestylers go we’ve always been a bit different, we’ve always added different elements; not everything is up tempo and some o f it’s down tempo and so there’s a real mix of sounds. Myself and Matt are quite rooted in our musical roots which are electro, old school hip-hip and reggae, so that definitely comes into it when it comes to making music. You guys started out your career using a lot of samples. Are you still using as much? On the last a l b u m there’s not as many s a m ples, but on the brand new album there’s quite a few samples on there. To find them you just go digging in the crates and try and find
Mad Racket First In Sydney Now In Tassie In October 1998 four diverse Sydney DJs, Jimmi James, Zootie, Ken Cloud and Simon Caldwell, joined forces to create a night at which they and their friends could relax, have lots of fun and not be surrounded by the same old club environment. The first two Mad Rackets were held at a squash club in Bondi Junction, and were very well attended by an enthusiastic, sportily dressed crowd. Very near neighbours, a glass front to the building 10 feet from the speakers and size restrictions prompted a move to the even more character-laden Marrickville (lawn) Bowling Club, in Sydney?s inner industrial district. With no noise problems and an increasingly passionate crowd, these parties grew into something of a phenomenon. 400-500 people would trek out of the city every month to hear not just the four founders, but also an increasing list of top quality international guests playing real music on a crystal clear soundsystem. Mmm? not like the clubs it seems? First to tour was Herbert, and Mad Racket have since organized four further successful tours for him and his band around Australia and New Zealand. Mad Racket organized a number of shows for Herbert at The Basement, Sydney?s most prestigious jazz venue, and Sydney Festival 2002 and 2005. The music policy is strictly no policy, up to the person playing, and anything goes. That said, one can expect to hear a mix of deep, exotic house and techno with some unexpected moments from the past and future. The list of our guests shows our tastes... It all adds up to a fun, quality night out with a mixed bunch of friendly people. Once you walk in the venue you will know? Look up, the ceiling says it all!
something a bit new and a bit different. I buy lots of funk compilations and I’m always looking for new kinds of breaks and musical sounds. I’m constantly on the lookout. I’ve been collecting records over the years as well. So I can go back and listen to a catalogue of tunes that I might find something from. Are you working on another album at the moment and if so what is the major theme of that? Yep, it’ll be out next year, hopefully in March. It’s probably the most vocal album we’ve ever done. Nearly every track is going to have vocals on it. It’s more across the board with its range and its diversity of music and sounds. Some of the tracks are quite rocky, some funky bits, some weird, cool trip-hop bits, a real mixture. MC Surreal, who fronts the live band will do about five or six tracks on the album. How often do you play live as The Freestylers? Pretty often, I mean we’ve been touring almost constantly since 2004 up until now, and I’ve been DJing as well actually. We’ve done a shitload in Europe and we did the Big Day Out tour. So over the next few months we’re going to take it easy, finish the album then come back and play some new songs then go back out on the road again. How large is the ensemble when you guys play live? We have a drummer, bass guitar and
keyboard player. We have a scratcher, we have a singer and an MC. It’s a six piece ensemble. On the DJ tour, though it’s just two Djs and an MC. I’ve got a few word associations for you now: Star? Petrol. Drug? Nurofen. Cocktail? Bloody Mary. Tasmania? Devil.

Heading down for a free show at Salamanca are the Offcutts, mad bastards of the dance music scene. Dave Williams spoke with Az and found he was still up to his old tricks and getting discounts from pretending to be retarded. What do you expect of yourself, these days? Hah. Hah. I expect nothing. Hah. Hah. All I expect is to make it through another day and make some good music, hopefully. I’ve resigned myself from the expectation (of having huge crowds). I think it’s a musician’s death, that sort of stuff. And especially when the tide starts to turn the other way, you see these poor bastards and they …. Hah, hah, hah, hah … Hah, hah, hah. You seem really cut up about it. Hah, Hah, Hah, Hah. (Musicians) They’re funny people anyway. They do have a bit of “the world owes me” on their backs. Quite often, if you scratch the surface with muso’s, they are always expecting hundreds of thousands of adoring fans. They’ve got a bit of a “diva complex”. If you push the right buttons for a little while, you realise they’ve got a bit of a chip on their shoulder about how the world owes them this and owes them that. What are the Offcutts up to, musically, these days? Ummmmmmmmm … one of our songs was used for the Olympus campaign in the US … an ad during the Superbowl this year. It was the highest played music ad p[layed during the Superbowl, so I had a lot of Americans ringing me, going, “Dude, is that your song during the Superbowl? “ I’m like, “Yeah.” They’re like, No. No. Bullshit, is that your fucking song?!” I’m like, “Yeee-
ah,” and they’re like, “No, you don’t understand, dude. It’s the American Superbowl.” Then we had all these American guys ringing us and subsequently, because of that, we’re going over to mix our new record in America, in LA, in October. Then we’re going to do a little bit of a tour, on the West Coast, then jump over to New York and do a little bit of a tour over there. We’re going to play some of our favourite haunts, like “The Knitting factory” and “The Viper Room”. What we’ve just done is make a really, fucking grindy, sexy, bluesy, rock, kindof dance, pop fuckin’ record. … It’s a really sexy rock and roll record, really. But, it’s got a lot of grindy, swamp blues kind-of grooves on it. And we’re coming over to Tasmania to headline the dance tent for New Year’s Eve. At Falls. We’re doing the 12 o’clock slot. The countdown. What do you remember of your last tour down here? I remember the Boags brewery and that it’s an
awesome beer … I think it’s great. I remember that it was hell-pretty. And it dispelled my myth that it’s just a retirement village for old people. I always thought of it being really freezing and that there’s lots of old people. So I found out that wasn’t true. Does that influence how you th9ink when you think about coming down here - that you’ll be able to have heaps of Boags? I think awesome, I can get away from my old stomping grounds and nobody knows me down there and I can have a good time … You won’t get swamped in the street as a superstar? No, no, I can behave however I want and none of my friends or peers are going to pull me up on any behaviour. Oh, yeah. That’s always good. I’m just a welcome stranger in a strange land and how I conduct myself is in hjust that way, as a stranger in a strange land. I originally started going to warehouse parties and outdoor doofs back in 93’-94’. It was at these events I became totally captivated by the performers, live artists and dj’s. I felt such a strong connection to the music that it compelled me to learn the craft. Signed up to the DMC dj Course (these guy’s are the best in the world to learn from!) and the rest is (they say) history!! Tell us about your name, Madam MIXstress, specifically the Stress part, where did that come from? I still get nervous when I go on stage even after ten years of performing… It kind of keeps it real for me. Stress is good if you know how to use it to your advantage…and it’s a sick word!! You’ve got a single out towards the end of the year, have you decided on the single and what stage is the album at? Yes I have the first three singles chosen. Still in production. The album is a little while away. Oh and I need a record label. Anybody?

When you were last down here, during your last interview with Sauce, you said that music was your mistress. Is that like a bondage mistress or a girl on the side? Oh, shit. She’s a bit of both, really. She’s a girl on the side, but she does take me down to her dungeon occasionally. It’s a bit of both. What can we expect from a Madam MIXstress album? Alot of covers. I’m sorry. Remixes. All Electro, Techno and weird shit! You’ve also worked in theatre, programming and performing the musical score for a couple of VCA productions, what was that like as an experience? Great! It was my first experince using my music in a different medium. Very stressfull. I was working with my sister who likes to get the whip out! You’ve been around the music scene for nearly a decade, has it changed you much over the years? I’ve grown up so much since I first started, Thankfully! Has it changed me? It’s made me a better person! What changes have you seen in the dance world over that time? It was a tiny little community when I first started in the industry. Everyone knew each other. Now it’s a multi- million dollar industry. It’s developed in way’s I would never have thought imaginable. From small warehouse events catering to a couple of thousand people to 20,000 clubbers, ravers, doofers and everyone else crammed into a world class entertainment venue!!! A few different sounds have come through. It’s amazing to look back at the production of the records to and see how different they sound. I won’t play old trax with new ones now because it sounds NQR. You’ve got gigs in Tassie coming up, are you looking forward to them? Can’t wait!!! I’ve never been to Tassie so it’s going to be an absolute blast. Looking forward to rockin it out hard style for the beautiful people of Tasmania.

You're one of the co-creators of the SweetBe@ts dance parties, what was your motivation behind the start-up of the nights? It all actually started when a mate wanted to do a party for a friend's b'day and had contacts with a local venue which we used, and we had a hand in organising that. After a lot of interest in that we decided to give it a go on a more regular basis.
The Bang Gang play wacked out sets of electrohouseaicdpop and jiggyjiggysexrock that get boys and girls‚ booties wiggling, bits jingling, lips synching and juices mingling. Their super-funhappy party sets sound something like Cyndi Lauper, Tiga, Soulwax, New Order and Daft Punk at a drunken karaoke orgy.

As their club night has grown The Bang Gang has played at Sydney‚s biggest music festivals including We Love, Good Vibrations, Field Day and Splendour on the Grass and hold residencies in Melbourne, Canberra, Byron Bay, Townsville and wherever else they can sell their cheap and nasty asses� The Bang Gang also enjoys the odd head bang and stage dive, regularly playing at the Modular parties, supporting Wolfmother, The Presets, Cut Copy, Colder and the Avalanches.
What's happening with SweetBe@ts at the moment? Is there much on the horizon? We’ve just come off a bit of a break at the moment..it was pretty full on for us organising an event every month or so considering we both have full-time jobs! we have another gig organised for the 8th of October @ The Batman Fawkner with a few hobart boys coming down to play, namely Jesse and Gnosis,cant wait! What inspired you to get into DJing? The usual I think..a mate had old decks which we used to bang around on regularly..enjoyed it so took the next step and bought some! On the whole, how healthy is the Tassie scene at the moment? I havent been in the scene for that long,maybe a year and half, two years, but it seems to be kicking along nicely at the moment. You were recently in QLD for a DJing competition, how was that as an experience and how did you go? ha ha..yeah I was. It was an experience thats for sure! in some dingy old venue in towoomba actually. Surprising the amount of interest shown in a extremely rural area! somehow I pulled of a nice set and took out that round! Nice way to end the holiday! Are there DJs that you are constantly looking to for inspiration, and if so who are they? Hmm, I’m a bit slack in that department. I should be taking more tips from other DJ’s but probably kid kinobi and krafty kuts would be the type of DJ'ing skills that I would aspire towards. If you could describe your DJing style, what would it be like? A fun style of breaks, with a few house tunes chucked in for good measure. Apart from Sweet Beats, what does the future hold for you? Good question. I dont really have any long term goals with DJ’ing at this stage..just ridiing the wave.

You’re coming to Tasmania to play a couple of gigs, can you avoid the usual answer of “I’m really looking forward to it” and give us an honest answer as to how you feel about that? Before making the move to Australia last year I had been coming to DJ for over 8 years on various tours on the mainland but have never had the opportunity to play in Tasmania, now I have a chance to visit another part of the country I now call home. It will be interesting to see how the club scene differs from the mainland, if at all. I also want to see some of the beautiful countryside I’ve heard so much about. I’m going to be there all weekend so will be able to check a few things out. I’ve read you vary what style of house music you play depending on where you’re playing, what will you be playing in Tasmania? Well essentially I play house, sometimes deep, sometimes vocal and sometimes tribal but always funky! I’m known for my funky style and this is my signature sound, but if i feel a crowd will go for something to the left of that then I’m happy to drop it in. I’ll be bringing a bag of tunes that cover the above. We get quite a few UK DJ’s coming out and playing here, what differentiates you from the rest? To be honest I don’t like to compare myself to other DJ’s, UK or otherwise. I just try to do my own thing and hope that people enjoy it. I’ve been dj’ing now for 15 years and I suppose my experience goes a long way. My job as a DJ is to entertain the people who have paid to come hear me and give them a good time. At the end of the day clubbing is about having fun with like minded people and friends. What is on the cards for you, productionwise, in the near future? I’ve been asked by various people to collaborate with them but to be honest I just haven’t had the time recently due to my DJ schedule but I’m hoping to get back in the studio soon as I have some ideas floating around my head. I should also be doing a new compilation in the new year for Ministry of Sound. What do you get out of
your show going on Ministry of Sound radio? It was a show I did from London. I don’t actually do the show anymore since moving to Australia but would like to get back in to radio here somehow. I think that Australian radio needs a good weekend upfront dance show. I think that the stations are not aware of how big a show this could potentially be. What did you do last Saturday night? I was in Melbourne playing at One Love in St Kilda. Had an amazing time there, the crowd are always up for a good night and they didn’t disappoint. The place was mental!

What’s your current obsession? Food...... Full stop. I love eating out and cooking for friends and living in Australia is amazing as there are so many good restaurants and deli’s here, its like food heaven. If you were to sell something to the devil to obtain even greater success, what would it be? A kidney, we all have 2 and can survive easily on 1. Although the way I party these days it might be me who needs a new kidney! What’s the last thing you do every night before going to bed? Clean my teeth.... its a must for me, no matter what state I’m in. What do you think of these questions? Pegz By Leigh Dillon & David Williams
He’s been called one of the pioneers of Australian hiphop, Melbourne artist Pegz has been influential in the continual rise of the country’s hip-hop scene. The innovative force behind both Obese and Zenith Records, Pegz has the upcoming new album “Axis” about to be released. After a prolonged absence from performing live, Pegz spoke to us about the new album and the hip-hop scene in general and juggling his day with all his hip-hop passions. What have you been doing this week? I’ve done about 100 different things today, but basically just running the vinyl plant and the label and it’s taking up every moment of the day as you could imagine. They’re both at separate premises so I’m running between Richmond and Prahran about three times a day picking up records and just trying to run both businesses. It’s doing my head in, but things will quieten down and I’ll find some new staff to run one side of the business. You’ve got the new record “Axis” soon to be released, how is that going? With all of my past releases as an artist, I’ve kept myself on the label pretty underground. I haven’t really done advertising campaigns or anything like that. This is probably the first time I’ve given myself a publicity campaign or a marketing budget. I normally like to put the other artists first. It’s not that I wouldn’t enjoy doing some of those things it’s just that time doesn’t allow it sometimes. But now that I’m four releases in and this is my best work to date and it has taken about two years to make and it’s been a long slog, I’m hoping to make more of an impact with this one and pushing like I push every other artist on the label.

In terms of the record and your evolution as an artist, how does “Axis” show that evolution or how does it differ? I think it normally takes a few mistakes to get it right and it normally takes a few years as well. Releasing things as a 21 year old there’s only so much experience that you’ve got in life and I feel that at 29 now, with all those past records, I feel I’ve learnt from those mistakes so I feel it’s the most well rounded album that I’ve made both production wise and lyrically. It’s really based on strong concepts and there will be things on the record that have never been rapped about in the history of hip-hop. I really wanted to have something original and offer the listeners a different perspective on Aussie hip-hop when it comes to subject matter and concepts. So that’s been the real foundation of this record. I wanted it to be consistent and diverse, so that’s probably been a huge turning point for me, really focussing on a strong cohesive effort for the album and looking at it like an album. I feel that a lot of artists makes tracks these days and potter along without ever really having that vision of what the album is really going to sound like. What mistakes are you talking about? They’re just learning lessons I suppose that every artist is going to go through themselves. With this album I wanted to make music for the listener, whereas in the past I wanted to make something for myself to enjoy. I think sometimes things can get a bit too personal or a little bit too deep, and when it came down to it I wanted to make an uplifting record that wasn’t so deep and personal, something that people could switch off to, something that they could relate to ,that I didn’t have to drag them through your mess of a life. What sort of things are you rapping about on this album that you feel haven’t been rapped about before? There’s a lot of original concepts but the standout one is a track where I’m sort of playing a bush man who is stuck out in the Nullabor and just utilising a lot of word play and a lot of word play with an Aboriginal dreamtime feel. It’s hiphop style song but a lot of words that are based on indigenous culture. It’s unique in that it’s all metaphors and similes all bunched up in there to sound witty, but at the same time it’s almost like a mystical track. There’s another track called “What Would Happen?” and it goes through 200 things I’d do if it was the last day alive.

Her voice has the most beautiful raw, soul edge to it, that you can’t help but warm to her instantly. The album starts and ends with a wall of a cappella harmonies that drive home the point: Damn, this girl can sing! The songs are constantly interesting throughout this highly danceable album, with a sprinkling of soul ballads to showcase her amazing talent. Some clever production artistry and good use of samples carry you through a delicious array of genres from jazz to trip-hop. The jagged blips and beats grab and twist you while her voice trickles down like caramel sauce. Expect to hear funky cut-up beats, space flute, Herby Hancock style synth solos and great jazz guitar and horn lines.

This is an exceptional album of profound anthems and exquisite ballads that will doubtlessly impress fans and first time listeners alike. ‘Worlds Apart’ is their fifth release and demonstrates the true genius of these intelligent musicians as they continue their take on social commentary. A slightly more accessible album than their previous recordings, Trail of dead has made great use of spoken samples, hints of drum programming and diverse instrumentation. The production is flawless and consuming. Magnificent orchestral and choral arrangements set the atmosphere of this intriguing and, at times, theatrical work of art. The trio has an interesting bent on life, celebrating beautiful hate and mundane tragedy. They manage to inspire a fulfillment of life through deconstructing the complacency and acceptance of mediocrity in American culture.
Eat Books
Tiefschwartz By Randall Stafford
German brothers Ali and Basti Schwarz make up Tiefschwarz and ‘Eat Books’ is yet another album pushing this avenue but failing in a few areas.
The album is lacking in lyrical quality and some of the vocals are just rhythmically crass, word play certainly isn’t Tiefschwarz strong suit. “Warning Sign” features guest vocalist Matty Safer from The Rapture and “Damage” feat Tracy Thorn is a top electro/house tune. ‘Eat Books’ has simplistic beats with live sounding drum grooves, subtle synth’s and the odd guitar riff, when these guy’s just lay down smooth electro it’s fantastic. Instrumentally there are some beautiful dance moments and the album progresses into deeper tunes with unpredictable build up’s and a softer edge. There are blips and dots from the keyboards with 80’s inspired vocal sounds and a feel that is more reminiscent of the french house sound. Look out for the more progressive single “Issst”
Drag
Drag is the side project of Powderfinger’s guitarist and keyboard player, Darren Middleton. The majority of material on ‘The way out’ was developed in hotel rooms around the world while touring with the ‘finger. Described by Middleton as “a jacket made of sound you can wrap yourself in”, he has produced an album of dense soundscapes and lavish effects. But for all its art and creativity in production, there is nothing memorable about this recording. There are no hooks or catchy choruses. In fact, the only thing I could remember was the “Ah-ah-ah” section stolen from Elton John’s ‘Goodbye yellow brick road’ in ‘Long way home’ (track 6). Nothing grabbed my attention until the brilliant brass and strings arrangement in ‘The frustrated writer’ (track 7), and that was penned by conductor Caleb James.This album may serve as good background music while trying to impress a young suitor over a candlelit dinner. They probably won’t like it but they might remember the Powderfinger bit.
Kiss Chasey
Kisschasy shot onto the scene with their debut single ’Do-do’s & Whoaoh’s’, a punchy song with slick production and lashings of Oz rock. A little reminiscent of Motorace, the guitars are big and the vocal melodies are delivered with honesty and grace. The lyrics read like memoirs, personal and introspective. The album is littered with lush harmonies, sweet string sections and beautiful guitar lines. The production is so good it could only have been mixed and mastered in the US. At times the playing comes across a little immature and rushed and most of the songs ended before I wanted them to. Only 4 of the 13 tracks go over 3 minutes, and then, not by much. The effect wasn’t so much of a concise pop song but slightly musically underdeveloped. Kisschasy don’t seem to like the double chorus play-out, but a few tracks certainly could have used that treatment.

CHAPTER ONE
Well, I was pleasantly surprised with the engineering of the Israel cd. It’s brilliant, each By Elona Bonnic track, and what a difference the production makes. Doesn’t it make a CD just stand out above the rest? The sound is brilliant, the beats are delicious and Israel’s vocals are a smooth sensation that can get a little addictive for lovers of R&B. The intro is hypnotic, with piano samples and synths, under-pinning Israel’s self-proclaiming lyrics. “How Long” is about the hard knocks that Israel has endured. “Coming to Getcha” (feat Jin) with dominant drums and noble lyrics turn this rendition into a love wish for Israel. The next track smashes into the party then simmers down. It’s probably the weakest song on the album, but don’t worry, it’s followed by the hip-gyrating booty weapon track, “Work da middle pt 2 featuring Thara” which is a definite winner; big bouncy beats that can put your womb up into the small of your back...think people...okay you got that! Thara is awesome, sexy and makin it work. Also on Chapter One is the popular track “Old Skool Luv” (featuring Valerie and KG), which is a little corny, but the better stuff is on this album. OK if this does your head in then I’m glad because it did mine in. Let’s begin with By Elona Bonicci the trip hop meets psychedelic trance with ambient vocals over big billowy drums, shakers and sampling that were decorating the tracks. Well that was just track one… actually no it was just the redesigned intro to “Where Do I Go?” featuring Madlib. This indeed could be the next electro heaven, with retro sounds and sweet melodies. In “Umbrellas” the haunted synth goes to seventh heaven, then breaking it down, speeding it up and throwing in some brass mania, but just for a second and then its back to building and lowering the tempo.... hmmmmm. That’s when it started to throw me a bit off. However, definitely an interesting album, decorated with bits of brilliance, giving listeners a somewhat scattered journey through the world of trance and electro. The amount of different sounds and genres that are in this album kind of gets annoying because at times it just doesn’t work, or if it did work, they didn’t know when to stop, which shows us again that timing is everything.
THE FREE DESIGN
The Raveonettes
The Danish duo pursue their love of 50’s retro-cool and the classic Ramones formula in their 3rd release Pretty in black. Sune Rose Wagner wrote the majority of these songs without the aid of distortions and noise gadgets to allow the elegant simplicity of the songs to shine through. But the result is less than inspiring and lacks the hard edge of his previous recordings. The album consists of 13 “simple” songs drenched in 50’s style reverb, Dick Dale guitar sounds, re=hashed vintage pop chord progressions, a guest appearance from legendary Velvet Underground drummer Moe Tucker, and a very ordinary cover of ‘My boyfriend’s back’. ‘Love in a trashcan’ (track 3) is a cool little retro-rock song with a cool little retro-rock guitar bend riff. Perfect for reliving Uma Thermon’s dance scene from Pulp Fiction. ‘Here comes Mary’ (track 7) is a beautiful ballad that provides an ideal backdrop for Sharin Foo’s lush vocals. Apart from those 2 tracks, the rest of the album washes over from start to finish and the effect is just a little dull.

NSW Central coasters In the Grey have finally released their debut album, entitled ‘Innocence is Running Out’. The band has parted with their heavier live sound and feel, and has gone with a more commercial / Rock sound. The first single ‘Start the Year’ is already a Triple J favorite and has been making a big impact on the Net 50, unfortunately though, the energy they displayed when they visited Tasmania with Cog in May doesn’t come over in the recordings. Standout tracks are ‘First Time’ and ‘See this world you made’. In The Grey seem to be reflective of the current direction Aussie rock is taking. ‘Innocence is Running Out’ is a good album, but not great, and won’t appeal to everyone. Despite this, for those who think Emo is dead, this may be the savior.
The Suitable Few
Aussie hip hop that’s keeping it in true blue suitable style. Track one, By Elona Bonicci “Aeronautical” shows their Beastie Boys and RUN DMC influences, but it actually works for them. It’s a very direct approach to delivering their raps, the lyrics are sharp and it continues through “The Game Of Life”, a catchy tune, talking about the lessons of life (as you may have guessed). Every track is impressive, they maintain their attitude and forcefulness in spittin venom on the mic. The track “Faces” begins with intense synth and continues with intense vocals to rebalance, showing that he’s definitely angry and definitely has a lot to say. The sprinklings of calypso don’t sweet talk the beats out of his verbal harshness, but it works. It isn’t pretty, but I like it. Look out for them, but my guess is you will hear them before you see them, they’re coming out hard and fast for Australian hip hop, so remember the name Suitable Few.
Nu-Metal came and went again around 2001, but someone has failed to tell Ill Nino. The follow up to 2003’s Confession is more of the same old formula. Starting with the track ‘This is War’, it shows how much Machado can scream but the band just keeps dishing out the same old rubbish Nu-Metal riffs. The only highlight of the whole album is the track ‘Turns to Grey’ which contains some awesome drumming courtesy of Dave Chavarri. It’s always a shame when such great musicians make such bad music. The only thing this CD makes me think of it is that these guys are a sloppy version of Sepultura. One Word: Rubbish!!
PICTURES
‘Pictures’ was recorded over the course of two years with long By Randall Stafford time friend and co-producer Martin Buttrich who also worked on Timo’s last album ‘Loud’. There are a range of styles reflected on the record and it’s haunting and pulsating sound scape is very impressive. The debut single ‘First day’ features vocalist Brian Molko from Placebo and is the token commercial piece of music on the album. From there ‘Pictures’ moves through breaks, electro, drum&bass and even some more downbeat elements, while remaining true to the classic European dance sound. The crossover pop arrangement style on this album works superbly. Undoubtedly the stand out track is ‘High Drama’ with vocals from Nenah Cherry. Pictures has a distinctly 2005 feel, fresh sounds with tough, uplifting and atmospheric production. One of the most diverse, unpretentious and well produced dance releases of the year to date, highly recommended.

This is the best album I have heard all year. Yes indeed. If Sauce had a critic’s choice award for Albums of the Year, then this one would definitely get my vote. Cheery piano keys greet you and lure you, yes, lure you into “Ernie”. A touch of reggae and saucy synths seduce you and take you into this bouncy track. Trust me girls it's a good song for gettin your boy into the boudoir. It’s da pimpin track monnn. Ok, enough of my Jamaican accent, back to the album. “Cay’s Crays” is another rugged reggae track with husky vocals to allow you to dream. Every track is brilliant, the drumming is wild, synths are manipulated like liquid mercury and the lyrics range from reggae to soul over this electro sound. It just shows that when classic sounds meet technology and when the right people get together music evolves and this, right here, is proof of that theory. So for some seriously sweet audio pleasure get, The Freddy Drop!
After The Fall
After The Fall, a band being labelled ’Australia’s next big thing’, have returned with their second album, ‘Always. Forever. Now’ – the follow up to 2004’s self-titled debut. Despite having only entered the studio in March, with the help of Richard Stolz (Bodyjar/28 Days), the album is surprisingly refined. ‘A.F.N’ has a more poppunk feel than their previous work, highlighted in particular by ‘The Fighter’. In contrast, Triple J and Channel V favorite ‘Concrete Boots’ and ‘Hey Mister’ really showcase their heavier influences. "Always. Forever. Now" is a good launch pad for After The Fall, While it isn’t going to please everyone, it should gain the band some welldeserved attention. But for a better perspective, I suggest you see them live before making any definitive judgement.

Another fine pop band from WA following in the footsteps of an illustrious line-up of premier acts (Something in the water maybe?) End of Fashion’s debut release delivers well crafted pop songs with simple production and clever ideas. A few tasteful keyboard parts and beautiful guitar lines support the adventurous vocal melodies. The album opens with ‘She’s love’, a catchy tune with an interesting guitar solo that sounds like someone keeps stepping on his lead. Next up is ‘O yeah’, their first single release. It’s a great track with a catchy chorus and a good example of the fun intended with this album. Most of the tracks run into the next and it isn’t until the haunting melody of ‘Love comes in’ that you get a breather from the relentless pace of the disc. Kevin Talley’s drumming is a lot faster and more technical than on previous albums and vocalist Mark Hunter’s screams and war cries have to be some of the most brutal I have come across in a long time. From ‘Nothing Remains’ through to ‘Lazarus’, the impact doesn’t relent. This album seems to be the turning point for this band, in years to come people will look at these guys like they look at Machine Head and Sepultura now. Ignore all the bad metalcore coming out at the moment; this is the future of metal as we know it.

Wooooooooooooooo DeNiro so young, so handsome so young...which is good you see, it means peoples that I am not that old because I don’t ever remember DeNiro being this young, so that people is the silver lining.
Marc Bolan gave life back to glam rock, even though he was quoted once as saying “Glam rock is dead.”
It’s amazing what anger can do. Fester, simmer and twist a woman into something even her own daughters can’t recognise. Starring Joan Allen as this bitter, abandoned wife (her husband has, according to her, taken of with his Swedish secretary) who’s sipping on a vodka 24/7, chain smoking, dream destroying, and hating life. The film was written and directed by Mike Binder, the main force behind HBO’s excruciating and yet strangely tolerable series “Mind of the Married Man” (or The Dick Van Dyke Show with porn). Allen’s character, Terry Wolfmeyer has four daughters aged between 15 and 22 played by Rachel Wood, Keri Russell, Erika Christensen, and Alicia Witt. The girls are self sufficient due to mom’s alcoholic incompetence and bonded by their grief in their father’s abandonment as well as their mother’s mental state.
With an array of characters played by Giancarlo Esposito , Jose Zuniga , Stephen Gevedon, Harvey Keitel , Jared Harris , William Hurt, including a disenchanted writer, as they struggle with their personal identities, in Brooklyn, New York.
"Hi mom" is actually quite a complex film, made in the 70’s, John Rubin leaves his film making a mystery. His persuasive tease of spontaneous actions that he never fully explains leaves the audience a bit per perplexed, well this particular audience anyway. DeNiro begins the movie as a filmmaker, well kind of, well a dirty movie maker who he tries to deal to an uninterested porn producer, an illegal and voyeuristic look into the lives of the swingers living in the six different apartments... Eventually he sets his sights on the lonely Judy Bishop (played by Jennifer Salt). DeNiro actually plays her so you think he is actually interested in her, but soon it is obvious he has his 70’s pimpin youth only interested in convincing her to have sex for one of his films. Though marketed as a comedy, "Hi, Mom" is not a funny movie. Actually, it is much like Scorcese’s Taxi Driver (1976), as they both interrogate the psychic drop of the 1960s in ways that are at once limiting and barely there. Hi, Mom leaves you with unanswered questions and in awe at DeNiro.
Indeed he was the funk daddy of amped up, glam rock pop with his poetic lyrics that carried his audience to new heights. “Born To Boogie” was Ringo Starr’s baby. Marc Bolan had Bowie in awe of him, he had the skills and talent to get the attention of the supergroup, and on this DVD you will see Marc, Ringo on drums, and Elton John smashing the keys on piano in a frenzy. Ringo wanted to capture Marc doing some crazy skits and also to film him live in concert. As all this footage was buried in someone’s dirty basement for a decade or three or four, this was an expensive project to bring back to life. In the extras on the DVD you can see the whole process of re-birthing this film, and how long it took to bring this out of the dark and into the light. The DVD is awesomely packaged and comes with an informative booklet about the history of Marc Bolan and some great photography to keep your visuals pleased. The sound was brilliant, showcasing vintage rock, and allowing Marc Bolan to be once again enjoyed as an audio delight. There are some great scenes from both discs that should put a smile on any rock fan’s dial.
The story is told within the context of the youngest daughter, Popeye’s, term paper, and then enters Kevin Costner as Denny Davies, the neighbourly beer drinking, stoned, washed-up baseball player who now has his own radio show and refuses to talk about his baseball career. In “The upside of Anger,” it shows that even in the most dire circumstances, their is always an upside as this semi-romantic comedy shows. Some funny moments, super twists and great camera work that showcases the scenes of sadness with accuracy. Rotating camera angles around uncomfortable dinner table conversations accentuates the heat of the moment. And one mind blowing scene that is literally a brain splattering visualisation which surprisingly works! The soundtrack sucked - sorry but it did - and
Screenwriter Paul Auster maybe should have discussed this with the numerous directors before going ahead, because Wayne Wang , Adam Holender sure did not come through with the goods. The movie starts in '1990', blue grey skies, the twin towers in pre 9/11 glory days and then a slow slow slow oh my goodness so painfully slow and boring, it was an effort to watch. The surprising thing was I love Harvey Keitel, He rocks my socks, loved him in every Tarantino movie but this film was like dropping bombs on Bagdad. I checked but no Bush had any part in production. Although with Kenzo Horikoshi , Hisami Kuroiwa , Peter Newman , Gregory Johnson, Bob Weinstein, Harvey Weinstein in the production seats you wonder how it can all go terribly wrong but it does. Don’t believe me? hire it and be embraced by the brain deadening numbing experience of SMOKE.

July 14th 2005, I ventured out to Irish Murphy’s and witnessed one of the most amazing bands I have ever come across. Left Hand Cuts the Right have got such a huge following from their famous live shows and commitment to their straight style. I spoke to Rob about ads in street press, At the Drive-In and touring Tasmania. You toured Tasmania just recently playing shows with fellow Melbourne act Faux Defeated, how did you find the shows? They were rad... It was good to see kids that were actually excited to watch Bands... people in Melbourne are very jaded and uptight... including me. More bands should definitely get over here. I believe you guys got together from answering an ad in a local street press, how did that all work out? And how were the first few jams? That’s true. It worked out pretty good... matt and rob both joined the bands at separate times... rob joined about 2 years ago and matt joined about 8 months ago... I’ve been through a few bass players and drummers. Everyone fitted in really well, pretty quickly. Which is why we are still in a band Together. Who are LHCTR influences? Our musical sound is influenced by the usual bands - love, like, Electrocution, Nation Blue, My Disco, Hot Cross, Orchid, dancy screamo stuff.
You are set to release your follow up to your 2004 release ‘You Breathed Like Winter’ soon, what should fans expect? We don’t have fans. People should expect nothing. I think this CD's better than the last. “you breathed like winter” was really raw and had no Overdubs... it was just what we play live kinda thing... this CD has a bit More to it. More instruments. More ideas. I have seen your live show, you show influences from Refused to At The DriveIn, how do you feel being compared to some of the biggest names in modern music? I love both those bands.. and definitely At the drive-in in particular influenced what I thought a live show is about.. letting go.. dancing.. forgetting.. whatever.. but I don’t think we hold a candle to what those bands did live.

In 2004, the Byron Bay’s very own Parkway Drive unleashed their debut E.P, ‘Don’t Close Your Eyes’ upon the world. On the 12th of September, PWD will finally release their debut album ‘Killing with a Smile’. I spoke with vocalist Winston about, Life, the upcoming Tasmanian shows, working with Adam Dutkiewicz and the Byron scene. PWD are hitting Tasmania for the first time in early November, what is unique about the PWD stage show?? Unique? Hard question to answer these days. Um, pretty much, we try and have as much fun on stage and go as crazy as we can without compromising the actual music, which seems to be something other bands may not focus on too much. These days it seems to be either stand still and play well or go nuts and play messy. I think we do both kinda well. Recently your bass player, Steegy departed the band. What were the reasons for his departure? I think it just came down to commitment issues. We felt that he wasn’t doing enough

This years Tasmusic Rock Challenge final has showcased some of the best new metal acts to come through in a long time. Launceston College metal core act ‘This…Future Chaos’ and Rosny College act ‘Solvent Intake’ were the standouts this year, both bands blowing punters away at both the heats and the final. Hope to see both in action again very soon.
Devonport 4 piece, ‘Something Kills’ (formerly After the Flames) are gearing up to release their debut E.P ‘Calling All Evil’, hopefully some time in October. Local brutal gore grind lads ‘Corpse Carving’s new 3 way split E.P, ‘…And then there were 3’ - with ‘Bludgeon’ and ‘Twitch of the Death Nerve’ - both from the U.K. Anyone who is interested and they should be can pick up a copy through Life Fluid Productions. I know I have been talking these guys up for months now, but Byron Bay’s ‘Parkway Drive’ are finally going to drop their debut album, ‘Killing with a Smile’, upon us on September 12th. It will be available nationally through Resist Records. The first 2 tracks, ‘Mutiny’ and ‘Gimme A D’, are available for a listen on the band’s Myspace account. Adelaide locals, The Hot Lies are set to release their follow up to their 2004 release ‘Streets Become Hallways’ on September 19th, entitled ‘Heart Attacks and Callous Acts’. The CD will feature the Triple J hit ‘Promise Me’.

what do you take away from shows likes these? Firstly gratitude. These are bands we have loved for so long and to be able to play with them is an awesome experience. Also, not to take anything for granted. No matter who we’ve played with they have always been stoked just to be playing, so I think that’s the main thing. You recently traveled to Boston to record your debut album ‘Killing with a Smile’ with famed Metalcore producer, Adam Dutkiewicz of Killswitch Engage. How was it working with one of the shining lights of Metal? Adam is the man. Super nice and a genius. The whole experience was awesome. He really pushed us and contributed a lot of ideas to make the songs the best they could be. Your 2004 release, ‘Don’t Close Your Eyes’ was one of the records of the year. To what extent did you feel more pressure when recording ‘Killing with a Smile’ because of the acclaim of “Don’t Close Your Eyes”?

Internationally, the most talked about metal band in a while, ‘Trivium’, walked away with the highly respected Best International Newcomer award at this year’s Kerrang awards. This latest accolade surely won’t be their last; Rumor is that they will be gracing Australian shores in early 2006. ‘Unearth’s newest release, entitled ‘Our days of Eulogy’, pays homage to the label that unleashed them upon the world. The album contains Unearth’s debut EP, ‘Above the fall of man’, the ‘Endless’ EP and five new live tracks from 2004. Iron Maiden’s last show on this year’s Ozzfest tour is one they will never forget. Members of the audience, crew and other bands including Black Label Society threw rubbish, eggs and anything they could get their hands on at Maiden and even switched off their PA. This all came about over issues between Maiden and Ozzy and Sharon Osbourne. Another Ozzfest related story, Ozzy Osbourne has reportley retired from headlining his own festival - this is also to include Black Sabbath. His publicist noted in a statement, “Ozzfest will carry on in 2006, however Ozzy will limit his performances to only a few, select cities.” Touring locally, don’t forget to check out Blood Duster in Tassie on September 30th and October 1st, cities and venues aren’t confirmed at this stage. But these shows are sure to go off yet again. Punkers / metallers / whatever 28 Days will also be here in early September. One of the most antipated shows of 2005 has been announced, Nile will be touring Australia in late November, early December, and support for the tour will be West Australia’s The Furor. Last but not least, WWE Wrestler, Chris Jericho’s band Fozzy will be in Australia in early September.

SWEET & SOUR - ANOTHER PULP MILL FOR TASMANIA? There are two boutique sized pulp mills operated in Tasmania by Paper-linx at Burnie and Wesley-Vale producing roughly 40,000 tonnes of pulp each year. And another pulp operation at Boyer in the south. None of these are intended to produce export product. In contrast Gunns propose to build a pulp mill at Bell Bay that will produce 800,000 air-dried tonnes of pulp per year. David Williams and the opponents and proponents of this massive, potential development.
Wood Supply? “One of the most significant (problems of the proposed Pulp Mill) in terms of environmental damage, is the impact on the forests - the remaining unprotected, high conservation value forests in Tasmania. In it’s (Gunn’s) proposal it has requested 30 year access to Tasmania’s native forests. We can only assume that means 30 years of the destruction of these forests to be chipped and fed into this pulp mill. This comes at a time when Tasmanian opposition to logging old growth forest is at its highest, Australian opposition to using old growth forests is at it’s highest, demonstrated by it being the number one issue in last year’s federal election and, indeed, internation opposition is increasing, We are seeing the Japanese paper companies enact a transition to a plantation based resource, which they’ve been planning for ten or fifteen years. What we’re seeing is that the old growth forest woodchips that are no longer sellable on the international market, the Japanese are rejecting them because of a number of issues, these woodchips which no one else will accept around the world are now earmarked to be fed into this pulp mill. We can only foresee 30 years of ongoing destruction of forests, which means 30 years of clear-felling, burning, poisoning of animals where it’s on private land and shooting of animals where it’s on public land.” Vica Bayley Tasmanian Forest Campaigner The Wilderness Society “That’s bullshit. Where’s he got that from? That’s to do with Forestry TAS, not Gunns. Gunns are
not using old growth forests in the pulp mill. Where did he get that from? That’s a complete lie … would you like to talk to Evan Rolley (Managing Director, Forestry Tasmania)? We don’t even have that in our wood supply … we’re going to (use) re-growths, timber that has been re-grown over the past 25-30 years. We’re not putting old growth into the pulp mill … (However) We can build a pulp mill without Forestry Tasmania’s or the Government’s wood supply … We’ve got enough wood of our own to build a pulp mill, but we have to take the wood supply from the government, because they demand us to take it for industry purposes.” John Gay Executive Chairman Gunns Ltd.
Water Pollution? “In terms of the actual pollution that this mill will produce, Gunn’s initially promised Tasmania … they announced it in a plantation prospectus … that they would only look at a totally chlorine free, plantation based mill. Slowly over the course of this year, and over the course of a number of project revisions and different submissions, they’ve changed this, and now we’re looking at … an Elemental Chlorine Free Mill (ECF). In terms

of pollution, ECF mills use Chlorine Dioxide in their process. This produces dioxins and fluorines, which are persistent organic pollutants, which means they are both highly toxic and build up in the food chain. In terms of liquid effluent, this mill will pump 3o gigalitres, so 30 billion litres, of effluent every year, into Bass Strait. This effluent is going to contain these dioxins and fluorines. That
has significant issues that we’re really concerned about, in terms of marine health … in Bass Strait, but especially in the immediate area where it’s (the pulp mill) is going to release its effluent. And it turns out the discharge point is relatively close to the Low Head sponge gardens, which is a biodiversity hotspot within Bass Strait.” Vica Bayley "The proposed pulp mill effluent outfall from Five Mile Bluff, going four kilometres out to sea … they’ll be pumping out 30 billion litres of effluent a year into that area of Bass Strait … which, if you talk to the surfing community, is the icon left-hand break in Tasmania. If the effluent goes out there, that’ll, basically, put a stop to that for the surfing (community). But, the bigger impacts are on the marine environment. What’s it mean for the southern rock lobster industry, the green lip abalone industry, the scallop industry, shark fishery and the scale (fish) industries? That area of Bass Strait where they’re planning to put it, according to the latest research and data that’s been (presented) to the Australian National Oceanographic and Meteorological Society, in February this year, shows that area of Bass Strait takes 160 days to flush out. So, if you’re putting 30 billion litres of effluent a year into it, you’re not going to give it time to flush out or dilute, so it’s going to accumulate.” Les Rochester Coordinator Tamar Residents Action Committee “We were looking for an ECF process, always. Other people have tried to put other words into the public’s agenda, but we’ve always intended to build (an ECF mill) … no, that’s not true, we asked advice to give us the best, environmentally, mill possible and it’s called an ECF.” “26 gigalitres is the total usage of the pulp mill. That’s one percent of the Trevallyn power station’s water flow. That’s in a Hydro (TAS) press release to Launceston. We will put a pipeline off the coast, of about three kilometres (in length). The only reason why we’re doing that is because it’s in the RPDC’s guidelines. If we were in Europe and building the same sort of mill, or in Chile or
Brazil, we’d put it into the river … This is not outdated technology. It is the most modern technology possible. “ John Gay
Air Pollution? “Of course, there’s the air (pollution) problems. There are, existing, air pollution problems in the Tamar Valley, which I don’t need to go into, in terms of smoke and the inversion layer. A pulp mill … will, undoubtedly, produce pollutants - gases and odours which will be released into this already polluted environment … why would a council, a government want to introduce another source of potential air pollution with significant health impacts on people, into what is, already, a stressed environment.” Vica Bayley “We’ve got major concerns about the types and amount of pollution that will come from the (chimney) stack. The stack is going to be the tallest in Tasmania, at 130 metres tall. The Resource Planning and Development Commission (RPDC) has put down guidelines on the type of emissions that will be allowed from that. Using their figures, we’re talking several thousand tonnes of material that will be coming out of that stack every year. With the problems that we have, especially, in the Tamar Valley with the inversion layer, that’s going to have a significant impact on the already high incidence of childhood asthmas and respiratory disease in the elderly.” Les Rochester “We’re not in Launceston. We’re at Bell Bay … The Tamar Valley air quality at Bell Bay is good enough for about five more pulp mills to be built. And we can prove that within one month … (regarding gases and odours) the pulp mill will have, in its stack, a flash fire, that heats all the stack up, so there’s no odours that come out, and this is an environmental standard that’s 100% perfect, costing $20 million to put in.” John Gay

Brave graphically reminds me, almost, of playing a Disney Movie with very high production levels and excellent animation that takes place over a myriad of environments such as lush forests, deserts, icelands, rivers and the spirit world. The many enemies Brave must overcome along his epic journey include giant bees, bears, rock goblins and many others including the mythical Wendigo.
First off this month I must apologize for the lack of a XBOX review. This is due to my console taking a rather large five foot fall to the ground and requiring repairs. With any luck all shall be fixed for next month. Brave TSFSD is a 3rd person action adventure platformer in the vein of Crash Bandicoot and lovers of the aforementioned game will no doubt enjoy this new game from Sony. You start the game as Brave a young Native American boy on the path to find his father, Spirit Dancer a Indian Shaman of great power. During his quest Brave aquires different abilities to allow him to progress through the diverse pathways of these highly detailed and lush environments. These skills include mimicry (the ability to copy the cries of various beasts in the game) useful when distracting

Overall, Brave TSFSD is a high quality production with a lot going for it. Sony has hit the mark once again with this title and those waiting for the next Crash game could do a lot worse and give this game a go.

Congratulations to Is Theatre on another excellent production of "Boiler Room", with improvisation classes culminating in a night of improvisation performance. Musicians, electronic and performance artists collaborated together to produce five improvised performances which were spellbinding on the whole. Although some performers were Ryk Goddard playing it a little safe at times, the evening was highlighted for me by the chaotic and random production of Simon Browne and Mathew Clare. The evening reached a climax with a contemporary dance improvised performance which was both exciting and disturbing.

As winter draws to a close and spring in on our door step, I though it was appropriate to sum up and re-cap on what has been happening in the world of surfing in our little piece of paradise that we call Tassie.
years, making all of the point’s in Hobart worth braving the frost bite. I headed up the coast to score Ring Rock and other great breaks along the way- perfect and somewhat less crowded than May's, Seven-Mile and Lauderdale point.
Whilst many were not brave enough to surf all through the winter, there still are a few crazy but keen surfers who braved the big southerly Antactic swells, which in return meant cold water, in search of that 5 second fuzzy, stoked, amazed feeling you get after riding one of God's amazing creations.
Up the top of Tassie has seen some great waves and some very happy campers. Marrawah has had good banks. Locals reported that Greens Beach and Bluff Reef were the pick this season. Devonport river mouth has been holding at 5ft and Tamar has had some epic waves ridden.
Whilst we managed to get away with a fairly mild winter, in the water was different story. However with the bad comes the good. Starting off the season was a classic south-easterly swell, which saw world class wave, Bone Yard breaking for 1 week solid. While it wasn’t solid every day, the peak of the swell saw stand up barrels for more than a kilometre down the newly claimed Super Bank as stated by the last issue of Tracks magazine. Some Crew were lucky enough to score this wave with only 4 guys out. others had to fight the crowds, either way no one went home without a smile on his or her face. "The Points are on" This statement is a rarity these days, and we’re lucky if the local points work 2 times a year. Even if they do, be sure there will be snow on Mt Wellington, freezing cold water and a very crowded car park. However, when it’s on it’s on and you can be sure to get a good ride that will leave your legs and face sore. In late May we had the biggest southerly swell we’ve seen in over 5
Just to inform all you keen passionate surfers that the owner of the road that takes us into the car park at Bone Yards (that saves us a 4k added walk along the beach) is currently trying to stop vehicle access. He is currently negotiating with Parks and Wildlife at the moment about this. Might I also add that we have the freedom of speech and the ability within us to speak out about what we believe in and what is important to us. I would encourage all of you that have ridden and experienced this amazing world-class wave or even dreamed of surfing it, to get behind what is important to you. Jammin' with Jimimah Priest By Sarah Glover As I looked out the window and saw an extra-grey looking cloud, the smile on my face started to turn upside down as I was trying to decide whether or not to can my chick's day of skating. Just as I was about to pick up my phone, a ray of sun-light beamed through the clouds. SUN! If there is one thing that would ruin a good day of skating, it's rain!! But as the morning got more hopeful the ground started to dry.. I fanged up to the town clock, smack bang on 1pm. My fellow chick skater Jimimah Priest was looking keener than ever. We were headed for her favourite skate park Taroona! We rocked up hoping to beet the after school rush from the local Taroona high school, only to find our mates had the same idea. However, from all the wind and rain, there was a lot of debris in the pools. Luckily my car has room for a broom. I busted out my surfing muscels and thanked my mum for teaching me how to sweep and cleaned up the park. At last we could roll around (literally because that is about all were capable of at the moment.) Spending the afternoon with Jimimah gave me time to find out the low down on this way-cool chick. She lives in the ever beautiful and stylish suburb of Spring Valley aka Glenorchy… She has two sister. None which skate but she is hard at work trying to convince them that the cement doesn’t hurt that much. Most weekends you will find her sitting on the side walk singing her little heart out trying to earn money to pay for a new car. I found out that her fave skate trick in sess slides. She is currently working on getting her Ollie down pat. Dog town Z boys is one of her favourite skating movies ,cuz of the old school style. If you haven’t watched it it’s a must. The smooth style and fast riding makes you appreciate the old timers. There is a sick as pool section in the movie too. “This is why Taroona appeals so much to me cuz you can really connect the park up and get a good rhythm happening. “ As you know girls love shopping and clothes, so out of interest I asked my new found friend what her favourite item of clothing was. A normal response would be shoes or hand bag. Well, Jimimah loves her Explorer socks and her sick-as Element Eskimo jacket. Why Explorer sock? Well her response was, “ I love to go hiking through the bush, and well, wearing my socks makes me feel like I can go anywhere”. Seeing as she loves to explore, I asked her if she could go any where in the world and skate, where would it be and why? “Hawaii. It has a sick-as vert skate park in the north shore ,looks really fun and smooth”. I would have to agree with her on that one i,ts hot and there are waves and well that’s about it.. What more could you want? Among her many talents Jimimah is a budding artist and a keen as drawer. She studying Graphic Design at Rosny College. She hope to start her own clothing company one day and by the looks of this she will do just that, and more.. As the clocked ticked 3 and the school bell went we decided to call it an arvo and headed to the nearest café to re-hydrate. We chilled out in the squares of Salamanca and sipped our chi tea and planned our next day of skating. So keep an eye out for cool chick Jimimah Priest as she rips up the parks in Hobart.
