THE EVOLUTION of Indian SCHOOL EDUCATION 8
MARCH 2019
Over the decades, the school education system of the country has undergone a sea-change. The steadily increasing use of technology has inspired childcentric approaches and garnered government’s attention on developing a system shaped up in alignment with global-level evolution of school education system. How all this has led to imparting of holistic education is worth exploration, writes Akash Tomer of Elets News Network (ENN).

Understanding Education Education can be defined as the process of learning that continues throughout one’s life. It promotes mobilisation of knowledge and contribute to one's development. It helps people develop skills towards jobs and creates productive efficiency. In the times of yore, India had the Gurukul System of education where the teacher and the pupils used to live together at a distant place and the students would be taught philosophy, arts, science, administration and self-defence

In the modern education system of the country, many schools have introduced activities where students speak their heart out with the teachers. It is seen that even pre-primary children sometimes go through emotional downturns and loads of patience, understanding, care and guidance are required to keep their spirits high for overall psychological and mental development. Teaching modules are made simple, consistent, and are continuously evolved by the core management group based on the hands-on skill in the school backdrop. Other teachers are trained in a specialised and in isolation so that they can effectively become councilors in their own way. The programme is successful as the teachers are linked to the school system. The entire training of teachers to counsel is supervised by the school management. Thus, it can be said that only when a teacher is motivated he/she can help a

The modern school education system in India comprising primary, middle and secondary levels vary considerably across the States since education is primarily the responsibility of the State Governments. Most States follow five years of primary, three years of middle and two years each of secondary and higher secondary levels. The Indian education system is one of the largest in the world with more than 1.5 million schools, 8.5 million teachers and 250 million students from varied socio economic backgrounds (Source: Performance Grading Index 2017-18 under Sarv Shiksha Abhiyan). The system strives to maintain standards and uniformity across the country while giving ample scope for the country's diverse culture and heritage to grow and flourish. In the public schools, the lessons are taught mostly in regional languages and English is learned as second language while private schools use English to teach most of the subjects. To modernise the knowledge delivery ways, schools and teachers are adopting various unique and best practices with increased usage of technology as one of them. These methodologies help schools to cater to physical and emotional needs of students along with academics.

child perform effectively, making him a better personality.
COVER STORY
Child-centric Education The basic principle of child-centered education is to enable the optimal development of a child's personality and competencies in line with his/her individual needs and requirements. Based on the inquisitiveness of the child, and his/her interests, learning should support the self-educational process of the child, particularly by supporting his/her own senses of self organisation and responsibility. In order to achieve this, learning methods are shaped mutually by the adult and the child, and adapted in accordance with the child's individual learning requirements. This necessitates a learning environment with a didactic structure, one characterised by mutual trust and capable of enabling independent as well as cooperative learning.
Peer Learning Peer learning pedagogy is today viewed as part of an active learning strategy, which is being increasingly used in schools around the world. In this mode of learning, students interact with their peers and learn from each other without any supervising authority. This creates an environment of open communication which is very important for learning. Research suggests that students, who engage in an environment of open and free communication, study well and perform better academically.

In a peer learning group, students can search for, collect, review, analyse and apply their knowledge as per their individual capacity. They engage each other intellectually, debate on each other’s views, reaching an agreement or a disagreement. Studies have demonstrated that the cognitive process of doing exercises together, raising questions and arriving at conclusions will greatly help assimilate knowledge, which enhances a student’s understanding of the lesson. This process enhances deep learning, wherein the information is retained in long-term memory, rather than surface learning, where information received in a classroom can dissipate very fast from mind.
Increased Use of Technology in Education There is a lot of stress on using technology in the education system these days. Schools are encouraging students to get familiarize and use it in optimum manner for a better approach to learning. Most of the schools today have a studentcomputer ratio of 1:1. They use technology in their teachings as well. Projections, online classes, online access for homework and similar use of trending technology are making students as well as their parents, to an extent, technologically sound. This helps children and parents to stay up to date as well as embrace novel things in the present times. It won’t be too long when all schools are digital. Though Digital India has been Government’s one of the biggest programmes, the education system is being balanced with digitisation,

the best use of their skills while also extending a superlative strategy to counter their limitations. This gives students an ideal learning environment which meets their specific needs and allows them to achieve the most favourable results. By leveraging technology, adaptive practise sessions assess students’ strengths and weaknesses, for each topic, to provide them an efficient way to progress in academics. Another aspect that students benefit from is the ability of digital platforms to provide consistent and good quality content anytime, anywhere. These platforms also guarantee the availability of academic experts for doubt resolutions throughout the day. This ensures that students' preparations are never held back at any point of time. The world is now a small global village and education is one of the most important aspects for bonding the future generations. India is a hub of knowledge creation and human resource is cultivated through sound education system. It is important to educate students by combining earlier and modern learning ways so that the student emerge successful in all phases of life. Moreover, the Government of India has formulated a number of schemes and policies to ensure that the existing education system remains relevant for all and caters the society in a nondiscriminatory manner. In essence, the education landscape of India has evolved over the years in many ways. The intervention of technology has made it much more meaningful than it was. The dividends of imparting relevant education have been understood by the successive governments which have done their bit to boost the existing system for all sections of society.

It is being ensured that inspirational stories as well as stories are making the next generation broad- minded and not conservative. It is making kids develop a sense of accepting others in a better way along with their shortcomings. It is an effort to keep education more humane than simply digitised. The use of machine learning and artificial intelligence gives students the ability to adopt a personalised approach that considers individual unique learning patterns to further enhance a student’s learning experience. This is done with clinical precision so that students don’t have to mandatorily follow the average classroom velocity and can instead learn concepts at a speed they’re most comfortable with. CCE – Enabling Better, Focussed Learning The Indian education system has been steadfastly witnessing introduction of novel methodologies or features evolving the experience of learning and teaching in a meaningful way. Continuous and Comprehensive Evaluation (CCE) is one such evaluation system, writes Akash Tomer of Elets News Network (ENN).
T
he Continuous and Comprehensive Evaluation (CCE) is an evaluation system that aims to improve students’ performance by identifying their learning difficulties at regular intervals. It helps in employing suitable remedial measures to enhance students’ learning outcomes. Education is one key factor that helps children grow up becoming socially and professionally acceptable, knowledge helps oneself to figure out various ways to tackle challenges of real life. However, it is vital to verify students’ learning abilities or levels so that they get duly supported in overcoming complex situations. Assessment is a key feature of education delivery, as it determines whether or not the goal of imparting right education is being met. It affects decisions about grades, placement, educational advancement, instructional needs, and curriculum. Assessments actually support the two most important stakeholders of education i.e. teachers and students. These help find answers to three critical questions: “Are we teaching what we think we are teaching?” “Are students learning what they are supposed to learn?” “Is there a way to teach the subject better, thereby promoting better learning?”
12
MARCH 2019
Continuous and Comprehensive Evaluation (CCE) Seeking the importance of evaluations and assessments, the Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) has introduced the Continuous and Comprehensive Evaluation (CCE) system for Indian Schools. It’s a system of doing school-based evaluation of students, covering every aspect of students’ development. The assessment covers both scholastic subjects as well as co-scholastic areas such as performance in sports, art, music, dance, drama, and other cultural activities and social qualities. It is a developmental process of assessment which emphasises on two-fold objectives. These objectives are continuity in evaluation and assessment of broad-based learning and behaviourial outcomes on the other. In this scheme of the things, the term “Continuous” is meant to emphasise that evaluation of identified aspects of students’ growth and development is a continuous process rather than an event, built into the total teaching-learning process and spread over the entire academic session. This means regularity of assessments, frequency of unit tests,

diagnosis of learning gaps, use of corrective measures, and retesting (if required), for the evaluation of students. The second term “Comprehensive” means that the scheme attempts to cover both the scholastic and the co-scholastic aspects of students’ growth and development. With the changing times, the board and schools across the country have incorporated various innovations to CCE. It has led to the conventional assessment methodologies getting replaced by more effective and interesting practices. These practices have not only helped the students in improving their learning outcomes but also supported teachers for formulating the better ways of knowledge delivery keeping student needs in mind. It helps them in ensuring that the students are learning that they are supposed to learn. Assessments also enable teachers in helping students to reach a course’s objectives. Following are some of the ways that helped assessment and evaluations deliver better results:
Technology in Assessments Technology has a vital role to play in effective and efficient assessment of learning. Modern technology offers educators a variety of new tools that can be used in the classroom. Technology can help teachers assess their students’ learning as well as their performance in the classroom. Use of Information and Communication Technology (ICT) in assessment involves the use of digital devices to assist in the construction, delivery, storage or reporting of students’ assessment tasks, responses, grades and feedback. Describing about the importance of technological tools in assessment, Usha Iyer, Principal, The Bangalore School, Bengaluru, says: “Digital learning can be a game-changer for Continuous and Comprehensive Evolution (CCE). The tools available nowadays can help schools to do away with the conventional methods. These tools help teachers to get a comprehensive realtime analysis of students’ learning levels.”
Understanding Students’ Needs In the current education ecosystem, it is impossible for teachers to dismiss the importance of “Knowing Your Students”. Various researches have revealed that it is very important for teachers to know their students well for better learning among them. Knowing students means more than merely acquiring social or administrative information — students’ names and ages, something about their friendship circles, a bit about their family backgrounds, and a few statistics from their academic record. To maximise learning, we need to dig deeper than this superficial acquaintance. Emphasising on the same, Seema Negi, Principal, Sanjeevani World School, Mumbai, says: “In Sanjeevani World School, Mumbai, we have adopted the technology for assessments in two steps. First we encourage teachers to
14
MARCH 2019
understand the gender disparity i.e. to understand the needs of their students and their individual learning capabilities. Only after that we adopted technological tools for the assessment of students.”
Nurturing a Positive Behaviour It is important to remember that even though assessments and evaluations are necessary, sometimes a bad result or negative remark may also make children negative or depressed. Nowadays, the schools have adopted the ways where students are not given grades or marks. They are not even announced passed or fail but are given tags like Improving, Transpiring etc. It helps students as well as parents to have a positive attitude towards their learning outcome. Describing a similar practice, Greshma Momaya, Head Trio Tots – Trio World School, Bengaluru, says: “In our preschool, we have no grading system rather than we assess students’ learning levels at the beginning of academic session. In our assessment throughout the year, we have introduced terms like “Emerging” and “Confident” that avoids any negativity among students and parents.” Though perfection is a relative term and it looks similar to developing excellence in something, a proper assessment ensures students keep evolving in terms of betterment. Exact accuracy cannot be achieved easily, and assessment is a way to reach that. The repeated analysis will lead the student to develop his/her skills continuously, leading to a polished understanding and skills for the course that he/she pursues. Hence, to tweak the golden saying a little, it can be said that “Assessment makes a student perfect”.

CMS INCULCATING HUMAN SCHOOL PERSPECTIVE
VALUES THROUGH EDUCATION City Montessori School offers uniquely progressive 21st century schooling with emphasis on nurturing human values, character development and peace education, says Roshan Gandhi, Director of Strategy, City Montessori School, in an interview with Arpit Gupta of Elets News Network (ENN). What is the genesis behind City Montessori School?
“

CMS is celebrating its Diamond Jubilee – the 60th anniversary of its foundation. The school was founded by Dr Jagdish Gandhi and Bharti Gandhi in 1959 with a focus on education for world peace. With nearly 57,000 students, the Guinness Book of World Records has awarded us with the title of ‘largest school in the world’ in terms of number of students.
To inculcate best learning traits among such a huge number of students, what kind of best practices and innovations have been adopted by CMS? Educating and managing such a huge number of students is a tough challenge. In terms of administration, we have a strong support system, with a separate Head Office to reduce the administrative burden of principals and teachers. The Head Office takes care of all day-to-day operational activities. It helps teachers to focus more on teaching and learning. Over the years, CMS has always endeavoured to impart the best quality education and achieve the best results. Simultaneously, the school focuses on values education, and particularly on educating students to spread peace. The school focuses on inculcating the idea that all religions are one and people of any nationality should be treated equally for unity and peace across the world. In 2002, CMS was the first school in India to win UNESCO prize for peace education in recognition of the effectiveness of the school’s efforts in this regard. In recent times, CMS has adopted a lot of pedagogical innovations in line with and even ahead of global best practices. We always try to be a trendsetter in terms of education practices. Our teachers undergo a lot of relevant training, while

a lot of innovation is currently happening in the technological sphere: such as the introduction of technology in all the classrooms of CMS, not only through interactive white boards but also through various EdTech pilot projects and initiatives to help teachers increase their teaching efficiency and students’ learning as well. The branches of CMS have successfully implemented changes thanks to the talented principals and teachers.
Changing a conventional practice requires a lot of efforts. What are the common challenges that the Indian education system faces while adopting technology for various tasks? A new technology must be accompanied by many other things. For example, we need to train staff to use new technologies. A lot of hardware and backend support is required to implement the technology effectively. Most importantly, we have to ensure that teachers believe that the technology will benefit them in enhancing their

How CMS is supporting its students and teachers for technology-based education? First of all, they all have been persuaded that a particular technological tool is beneficial for enhancing teaching as well as learning. Secondly, we have conducted huge training programmes. We have a dedicated team of trainers at every branch as well as at the Head Office. Trainers conduct training in a very systematic fashion which includes (low-stakes) assessments. Apart from that, we have a full time dedicated ITHardware support team which ensures that all the technological tools are working effectively.
What strategy has been adopted by the CMS to provide its students international exposure? We encourage our teachers to think globally. The school hosts 20-30 international events every year. These educational events are of different types. Some are in the style of Olympiads in various subjects – not only in traditional subjects like Maths and Science, but even in other subjects like History and English. Students from different countries across the world, from Brazil to Japan, come to CMS to participate in these events. All the students learn from each other and gain a huge amount of international exposure in the process. Apart from that, we have other types of events, including the International Conference of Chief Justices. As the world’s largest school, we have a duty towards our students to improve their future not only through educating them but also by improving the world around them, and encouraging them to do the same. students to think about making the world a better place when they enter into their professional life. We also encourage students and teachers to go abroad for summits and conferences.
As your schooling was done in the UK, what are the practices of UK’s school education system you want to implement in Indian education system? There is a lot that can be learnt both ways. It is not right to say which system is superior and which one is inferior. In the UK, in the past few decades there has been a greater emphasis upon nurturing students’ wider skill development such as cognitive, analytical, critical thinking, organizational, teamwork, and leadership. It is very much part of the curriculum over there. This is one of the most important developments that we can bring into the Indian education system — there may be many challenges, but it can be done.
What is your plan for CMS keeping in mind its legacy? As a team working under the guidance of our founders, together we are planning to continue to strive to provide the best quality of education that we can. Several recent developments are a testament to that, such as the introduction of technology and training to enhance pedagogy, more effective ways to impart meaningful moral and values education, strong emphasis on career counselling and psychological counselling, introduction of Western Classical Music education, initiatives to get young children to read more, major infrastructural improvements, great leaps forward in administrative and operational efficiency, and much more. When it comes to introducing new things, we are only interested in those things from which a positive impact on teaching and learning is certain. For that, we are doing a lot of internal research and development so that all new initiatives are evidence-based.

We encourage our teachers to think globally. The school hosts 20-30 international events every year. These educational events are of different types. Some are in the style of Olympiads in various subjects – not only in traditional subjects like Maths and Science, but even in other subjects like History and English.

teaching-learning practices. If it is forced upon people just because it looks good in a classroom, it is pointless to use such a technology. Teachers must feel that the new technology or practice is beneficial for their students; then only will it be easy for them to embrace the change.

APS ACADEMY: NURTURING
SCHOOL PERSPECTIVE
GLOBAL LEARNERS WITH GLOBAL OUTLOOK APS Academy emphasises on holistic development of every student to enhance their personality and to help them to face challenges in the life ahead, says Hema Kalakoti, Principal, APS Academy, Lucknow, in conversation with Elets News Network (ENN). APS Academy is known for grooming students to excel in every walk of life, what is the overall vision of the academy? The overall vision of school is to nurture learners to be aware, responsible and empowered to face challenges of life and also to be polite, pleasant and be rooted in eternal values as a human being.
Considering the vital importance for students to acquire innovative skills and a consistent need to stay updated in terms of market requirements, how significant is academy’s role? Our organisation’s role is very significant in helping students to acquire innovative skills and stay updated through academic activities, visits, workshops and co-curricular activities. in improving their learning due to enhanced engagement. It also assists students learn at their own speed, and review difficult concepts to avoid any confusion.
Some parents don’t pay equal attention to extracurricular activities of their wards, viewing it as useless exercise in overall intellectual growth of the child. How do you perceive it? Extracurricular activities are extremely important for children’s development. These activities can develop different aspects of a child’s personality depending upon their nature, for example social skills, cognitive skills, and channelising their energy in right direction etc. That’s the reason we are shifting from STEM to STEAM (integrating art in subjects) in education.

Grooming Total Quality Person with Moral, Spiritual Education
M
otivation plays an important role in improving the quality of education and it is also an effective tool in building team work. There are many other means available to the leaders for quality improvement. One of these can be moral and spiritual upliftment of the individuals, no matter if they are leaders or workers. Moral and spiritual level can play a much greater role in building an atmosphere of quality consciousness. A morally high and spiritually elevated individual has a sharper focus on the job, as his strategy of working is doing things with sincerity and truthfulness, devoid of self-interest. A selfless motivation is the best form of motivation that inspires one with single – minded devotion. Therefore, the City Montessori School has introduced moral and spiritual emancipation among its students as a predominant factor in the functioning of the Students Quality Circles. City Montessori School happens to be the first school in the world that has formed Students Quality Circles with focus on moral and spiritual emancipation. The case studies prepared by the students that have received international approbation were all

based on the premise that moral and spiritual emancipation should precede the concept of quality education. The school believes that morally and spiritually uplifted beings can always evolve as better quality individuals because of their natural sense of honesty and truthfulness in them towards every work. Therefore, the City Montessori School emphasises on moral and spiritual education of children from early stages of school life, as an essential requirement. An appropriate environment is also required in which the child learns to imbibe moral qualities and spiritual values. For this, the school has extended the duration of morning prayer assembly to 30 minutes. During this, students are motivated to cultivate moral qualities and a sense of devotion to God. In modern times, a lot of people have neglected moral and spiritual values for material means. They have started according high importance to wealth acquisition even by dishonest means. The fact is there is no limit to material possessions or greed. It is due to lack of moral strength that an individual gets inclined to amass or run after things out of greed. A person with good moral qualities shall not run after material

possessions. Instead he shall restrain himself from resorting to immoral means. Moral and spiritual virtues will motivate the individuals to find honest ways to improve quality. Morally and spiritually conscious individuals can handle quality inputs in a better way. Moral and spiritual values enhance understanding and the fundamental concept of the job in hand. Such an individual will wholeheartedly converge on the point of the quality without getting deflecting to other unnecessary objects. Total concentration can better be achieved through moral and spiritual knowledge. If traits of a Total Quality Person (TPQ) are to be achieved, the person should be fully trained in moral and spiritual values from early stages of life, both at home and at school. Parents have as much role to play in shaping up a child’s character as much as the school has. The examples set by parents leave a lasting impression on the child. If the child has been properly motivated by parents to cultivate
moral and spiritual values, the teachers have a much easier job in strengthening them at school. The moral and spiritual path will certainly lead children towards becoming a total quality person. For an adult, it is difficult to cultivate moral and spiritual values if he has not experience them at initial stage of life. It is only in childhood that one can become habitual of moral and spiritual values. Therefore, proper moral and spiritual education at an early age is an indispensable requirement for shaping the individual as a total quality person. Moral and spiritual knowledge is the fountain of strength for securing success in every venture. Fear of God and moral strength deter the individual from committing sins. A person having moral and spiritual power develops the capacity to overcome hurdles. Besides, a person known for moral and spiritual strength, commands respect and therefore proves a better leader. He has got a natural quality of leading men to achieve better results. A person lacking these qualities does not command due respect that a leader must command. Therefore, such a person will not prove to be an ideal leader, however much qualified and experienced he or she might be. A total quality manager’s status can be acquired only by a person who has the requisite moral and spiritual values. And, these must be nurtured in an individual at early stages of life.. (Spl. SCHOOL PERSPECTIVE
SETH M R JAIPURIA SCHOOLS— NATION BUILDING WITH QUALITY EDUCATION With a rapidly transforming education sector across the globe, Seth M R Jaipuria Schools focuses on nurturing global leaders by imparting quality education to its students, says Shreevats Jaipuria, Vice Chairman, Seth M R Jaipuria Schools and Jaipuria Institute of Management, in conversation with Elets News Network (ENN). What practices are followed at the school to develop leadership qualities among students? Leadership can’t be taught in a traditional classroom setting. It is developed through practice. From a primary level, the school should make students participate and take responsibility both within and outside the classroom to inculcate such qualities.
In what ways Seth M R Jaipuria reaches out and connects with its neighbourhood ? Understanding the community around us is an integral part of a good education. We have multiple programmes and opportunities through which our school and college students reach out to the community around them. These include community services, group projects, and cultural activities.
What are teachers’ expectations and how does the school help them work towards achieving the organisation’s vision? We have a strong belief that teachers’ development and learning pave the way to succeed in any educational institution. We provide multiple training opportunities in the school and outside too for teachers on pedagogy, and subject knowledge. Moreover, we provide them with new teaching ideas for every topic in the syllabus through nearly 1,00,000 lesson plans developed by us.
What are the most required qualities needed to inculcate among students? The most important skill in today’s world is the self-learning ability. We try to inculcate self-learning in our students, and try to make them self-motivated from a very young age. In today’s world no success is possible without the ability to work with people as a team. This requires empathy and listening skills. It gives not only a pathway to success but also makes one a better human being, who understands and helps people around himself or herself.
What is the biggest challenge for country’s educational system? How it can be resolved? The greatest challenge is to improve access of quality education.

Shreevats Jaipuria
Vice Chairman, Seth M R Jaipuria Schools and Jaipuria Institute of Management
We need to build schools that invest in improving the skills of teachers, and enable students with the skills to be successful in today’s and tomorrow’s world. There are very institutions that are able to do this outside metropolitan cities. Moreover, though there are many world-class institutions both at the school and higher educational level but the average quality of institutions is very poor. We need to bridge this gap between a few great and mostly poor institutions.
As an educational institute, what kind of help Seth M R Jaipuria Schools expect from the Government of India to improve the status of education in the country? The Government should create a legal framework, which promotes investment in education and competition amongst schools. Schools should be forced to deliver better quality and affordability through market competition and transparency rather than regulation.

ST. XAVIER’S CONVENT SCHOOL IMPELLING INNOVATIONS IN SCHOOL EDUCATION
SCHOOL PERSPECTIVE
At St. Xavier’s Convent School, we encourage peaceful co-existence among our students. We endeavour to make our students innovative which help them to find solution of any challenge in life ahead, says Dr Arjumand Zaidi, Director, St. Xavier’s Convent School, Lucknow, in conversation with Elets News Network (ENN). How is the curriculum followed at St. Xavier’s Convent School impart education in innovative ways with focus on the holistic development of students? At St. Xavier’s Convent School, we do not discriminate children on the basis of their social or economical backgrounds. We encourage all children to study, learn and play together. We teach them to be kind, and most importantly irrespective of religion, caste, and creed, to be humane. The second halves of all Saturdays are dedicated to holistic development of students by organising co-curricular activities. Students take part in theatre activities, singing, dancing, craft making, debates, sports and social awareness activities that focus on environmental and societal problems.
A good school must have good student-teacher coordination, what methods are being followed at St Xavier’s Convent School to maintain a healthy coordination between teachers and students? The students are free to express their views and discuss issues with staff members which are then followed up by the school administrators. These issues, if not resolved at grass-root level are taken up by higher authority and resolved immediately. Our “Open Door” policy is another one that encourages students to express their problems as soon as they encounter them. This allows students to be confident and discuss their problems openly with teachers.
How increased usage of technology has helped the school in improving the learning outcomes among its students? We use smart classes where we showcase video presentations on specific topics which help students understand in better way. We involve students in making these presentations as well. It allows them to research and study about topics and present it before their fellow classmates making it a funinclusive activity. Technology has also helped us share some of the best moments of the school through social media platforms and celebrate the achievements of students.

their way of imparting knowledge to meet the changing requirements? Children nowadays are adept with latest technologies. It is important to teach them using technology judiciously and do not get into the dodgy parts of the internet that can be harmful for their growth. To guide the students properly in today’s time, it is very essential that the teachers are well equipped with the technology and compatible with the learning patterns of their students.
In order to maintain a good learning environment at schools what activities along with study are conducted at your school? We organise number of competitions and activities for students. Students lead these activities and also give their views on different issues. We ensure that the most effective opinions of students are implemented. We actively encourage our students to participate in awareness programs to inculcate the urge to fight for the things that need to be changed to secure a better future for them. We teach them to stand up for themselves, their individuality and their dignity.

throughout the globe for its ability to bring significant changes in the students through real life situations and gamified pedagogy. A seamless connection between academic experiences and real-life situations is a must for the child. We’re in the age where bots, are taking over the regular jobs which were human-based and as per the recent reports from WEF, 2/3rd of the existing jobs will be obsolete in the next decade. What would remain then is the ability to adapt, the advantage of being human and non-cognitive abilities, which are the drivers for your cognitive skills at large. As an organisation involved in skilling through sectors, communities, countries, we’ve been constantly evolving ourselves as per the need of the hour and today, I believe, nothing is more critical than the ability to adapt, or to unlearn or learn. Safety and security has been a big concern among parents today. How do you assure parents about the safety of their wards? Student’s safety is our prime concern too. In a bid to make students feel safe and secure in school premises, we have taken several measures. Security-guards and bouncers take care of students’ safety and security. CCTV cameras have been installed at every nook & corner. In addition, supporting staff and teachers are vigilant enough to deal with any situation. All buildings are made earth-quake resistant. Corridors and staircases are properly spacious to walk in.
How do you foster critical thinking among students? Students are provided various opportunities at LPS. We try to develop an enquiring mind. Reality is objective. Student’s thinking is made productive to the extent that they are able to accurately perceive and interpret. All subjects play an important role to develop habit of critical thinking. Students are motivated to open up. Their rigid set of opinions and attitudes are softened. Various methods are adopted by our teachers for the same. A sense of humour is also created so that critical thinking could be developed.
Unveil your vision and plans about LPS group. We have very forthright approach as far as vision is concerned. LPS branches in Mumbai, Maritius and Dubai are yet to be opened. More students will be cracking IIT, CAT, CLAT, IAS, PCS and will be placed in globally-acclaimed companies in coming years.

CONFERENCE REPORT
“There are individual values like being motivated, being focused, and never giving up which must be inculcated among students but what about altruistic values? These values are very much important for humanity to survive. It is also a very important point of discussion how we promote altruistic values among children. It can be done by getting our children into others’ shoes. It will make them empathetic. Technology can help us inculcating these values among children. Various media like audio-visuals, graphics, presentations etc. may help them to understand the importance of human values. Another important point we need to focus on is increasing stress levels among children. Growing complexities are making world a place full of stress. There is so much importance given to achievements and becoming successful that children are really scared and depressed. They can’t tolerate failures in their lives. When we say that children require emotional courage, it is for them to handle the situations of being rejected or failed. Along with this, moral courage is also very much required among students. Today, morals are in flux. Most of us don’t differentiate between right and wrong. In today’s world, it is very important for children to figure out right things and at the same time to stand by the right things and condemn the wrong. We also need to look at how digitisation can help in this.”
