KRUUSE Catgut, an absorbable suture, is obtained by longitudinally slitting the submucosa of bovine intestine, twisting the ribbons and joining them in wet condition to give a monofilament finish. The rate of absorption is slowed down by treatment with chromic salt solution. Absorption is faster in infected tissue and in tissues with increased levels of proteolytic enzymes (stomach, cervix, vagina). 20152430
