stylish summer guide Thinking of outfits to pack for your upcoming getaway? Here’s a simple guide to looking stylish this summer! BY NADINE AGONCILLO

BEACHFRONT To add more style, wear a laced cover up over your favorite bikini. Keep your accessories minimal by wearing simple suede wrap bracelets and your sunglasses.

LAIDBACK If you’re just hanging out by the beach house or by the shore, then this style is perfect for you. Wear a soft colored off shoulder top and white looser trousers or drape pants. Wear a braided pair of flip flops. Finish your look by spraying some sea salt spray your hair to achieve the beach waves.

CITY TOUR Keep it light and bright while you’re touring around the city! Pair up a bright colored sleeveless top with your favorite denim shorts. Wear comfy sandals since you’ll be doing a lot of walking! You can finish your look with your favorite sunnies and a small shoulder bag to keep your essentials. If you want some extra sun protection, wear your oversized summer hat!

16 // COB TIMES

BEACHFRONT Keep it simple while you’re at the beachfront by wearing a printed tank top and a linen/chino shorts! Wear your favorite flip flops and sunglasses to finish off your look.

LAIDBACK For a more casual look, wear a pastel colored cotton shirt with a white chino pants. A canvas slip on or loafers will complement the whole look.

CITY TOUR Of course you’d want to be comfortable during the tour. Opt to wear a linen shirt since it’s thin and breathes very well. Wear loafers or boat shoes for that extra stylish summer vibe. You can wear accessories such as sunglasses, a classic watch, or trilby hat.

boto lasalyano, sulong pilipino Boto Lasalyano, Sulong Pilipino is a campaign launched last August 24, 2015 in DLSU to encourage Lasallians towards an educated participation in our country’s upcoming National Elections. BY JESSICA MARIANO

In less than 2 months, we will be choosing our country's next leaders and as citizens of this country, it is our duty to exercise our right to vote. We, the students of DLSU, should let our voices be heard in order to have the leader our country deserves. Educated voting is important as we have the power to choose candidates who can present effective political platforms that would change our current system. We should remove the common mentality that one's vote will not make a difference because since we are part of the educated citizens in this country, we can set the standards for our country's future leaders through voting and it is also our way of contributing in building our nation.

who should i vote?

This coming May 9 is elections day, wherein Filipinos from all over the country will be voting on who deserves to be rightfully seated at the Malacanang. About 55 million voters will be casting in their votes with the hopes of having a more transparent, honest, and competent government. BY COLEEN PASCUAL

One of the most important events to take place this year is the Philippine National Elections, which will be held on May 9, 2016. The opportunity to vote for the next leader taking over our country only comes once in six years. Qualification, according to the Constitution, states that a candidate is eligible for presidency if he or she is a natural born citizen of the Philippines, a registered voter, is able to read and write, at least 40 years old on election day, a Philippine resident for at least 10 years immediately preceding

the election. However, here are four important traits we should consider: RELIABILITY. As the head of the state, our future president must recognize the load of responsibilities to be taken. He or she must be able to perform his tasks efficiently. HONESTY. Our country needs a leader who will uphold values of integrity. This means fair and transparent `use of our taxes. COMMITMENT. The president’s term will last for six years, and it will

definitely be a tough job. A vision for the country, one must work with patience and perseverance to achieve it. COMPASSION. Our future president must also show sympathy and genuine care for the nation. This selflessness brings true service. As registered voters, we must maximize our right to vote and give it to the most deserving candidates. The responsibility of choosing the right leader is in our hands, so vote wisely. Only Mayor Duterte and his running mate, Senator Cayatano, with some senatorial candidates, faced the La Sallians in a forum that lasted for 3 hours. The other invited tandems (Binay-Honasan, Roxas-Robredo, Poe-Escudero, Santiago-Marcos) did not show up at the event. Davao City Mayor Duterte and Senator Cayetano, having the whole stage to themselves, discussed their peace and order agenda that earned applause from the audience. The highlight of their platform is to eliminate drugs and crime within 3 to 6 months. Different reactions arose from the netizens regarding the proposal of the Mayor and Senator. Some doubt that they can change the Philippines within 6 months, while others believe they can. Aside from the Duterte-Cayetano tandem, three senatorial

candidates were also given an opportunity to discuss their platforms on the social issues of the country. Congressman Neri Colmenares reiterated his plans for the agrarian reform, industrialization, pension and tax reform. On the other hand, Congressman Romualdez discussed how public service must be met with compassion. Lastly, Lawyer Kapunan talked about the need for hope and transparency in the senate. Despite the absence of the other candidates, thousands of students, netizens, governance advocates, and voters from other cities still participated in the forum via live stream, making #TheLeaderIWant a trending topic on Twitter nationwide. Through the forum, the public was able to know the different platforms of the candidates. This discussion will help the voters make informed decisions in choosing the leader they want for the Philippines. COB TIMES // 43

If you had a chance to travel through time, where would you go, past or future? I would go back to the past as I want to cherish and maximize my childhood and teenage years. Time does fly quickly and we were growing up so fast that there are things I wish I had done. It’s not about correcting my mistakes but more of treasuring the time I have with the people I love. If I were to travel with a fictional character, it would be… It would be Chuck Bartowski from the TV series Chuck. The past because there are memories that I would do anything to experience again. Also, going to the future would scare me since I would always have this fear of “am I doing the right track? Is this what I’m supposed to do to get to that future?” If I were to travel with a fictional character, it would be… Sokka from Avatar since I really like the company of people who just have this innate capacity to make sure there’s no dull moment. Also, since I’m really, really helpless when it comes with directions, I could rely on him to make sure I’m not as lost as I usually am.
