DOs and DON’Ts on your job interview BY NICOLE REMITER

DOs Research about the company

This will show your interviewer that you are interested in the company and that you have the initiative to get to know them. It’s more likely that you will exhibit confidence in the interview if you know a bit about the company and the position you are applying for.

Arrive early

Being early can help you look more relaxed by having the time to focus and setting yourself in the right frame of mind.

Dress appropriately

Make sure to be presentable by dressing smartly and being neatly groomed. Looking good will help make you feel good. Besides, you don’t want to look stressed and unprepared!

Be positive

Exhibit positivity by smiling and looking confident. Using goodwill communication can also give you a higher chance of employment.

With the present competitive world of work, it is undeniably important to know how to properly present yourself during job interviews. Always remember that first impression matters, thus take note of the following do’s and don’ts:

DON’Ts Don’t hesitate to ask for clarification if you don’t understand a question.

Clarifying a question can help you give a profound and relevant response.

Don’t answer a question with a simple “yes” or “no”.

Make sure you clearly explain your answers. Take the chance to let your interviewer know how dedicated can be to the job by giving relevant explanations and examples.

Don’t exhibit unnecessary movements.

Body language is as important as your answers in your interview. Be poised by sitting properly and avoid biting your fingernails, touching your hair, or crossing your arms.

Don’t lie

Be honest about what you say. An extensive research about you is also done by the company and being dishonest just to impress them will do

Ask appropriate questions

Engage yourself in the interview by also asking relevant questions. By doing this, the interviewer will notice your genuine interest to work for the company.

08 / COB TIMES

Don’t forget to send a thank you note.

Impress your interviewer one last time by sending a thank you note. He/She will highly appreciate it if you express genuine gratitude after your interview. 09 / COB TIMES

Senior High School: How was your stay in DLSU? BY JESSICA MARIANO

As part of the K to 12 Curriculum, DLSU opened its doors for the first batch of Senior High School Students last June 1, 2016. Four different strands/tracks are being offered in DLSU's SHS: Accountancy, Business and Management (ABM) Strand, Humanities and Social Sciences (HUMSS) Strand, and Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics (STEM) Strand. In line with this, we interviewed some students from our very own Senior High School in order for us to know what it's like to be a student of DLSU's Senior High School Program. "As part of the first batch of the K-12 curriculum, it is very intimidating to be treated as a high school student with an academic standard for college. But as days passed by, it taught great things that I wouldn't achieve without the help of DLSU." Mariel Duran (HUMSS) "Being a senior high school student of DLSU opened doors for me to try and experience new opportunities. It challenged me to go beyond my comfort zone and develop my capabilities in academics." - Alex Abantao (STEM) "Being an SHS student in DLSU is a privilege although it means living the taft (tough) life. being a shs student hones our capabilities even more in preparation for our future." - Lennea Viray (STEM) "Since we are being treated like college students, I felt more independent and mature. Lately, my stay here in DLSU has been going really fun except finals is almost near and we need to finish loads of requirements." - Mirjana Burog (STEM) "Being a senior high school student in DLSU is very tiring and challenging because we are trained and pushed to be like college students. It is also very hard to adjust because we need to reach the standards of the university." - Nina Casas (HUMSS)

Management Trainee Program The Management Trainee Program’s goal was to bring a development program for undergraduates who are still uncertain on what field they want to specialize in after graduation. The two day program, which took place last July 15 and 22, was made possible in partnership with Metrobank, Nestlé, Proctor & Gamble, Monde Nissin and Unilever. The sponsors were able to expose 30 participants under the different business functions of a company. Through several modules on different business aspects such as brand activation, sales, corporate social responsibility, human resources, and finance, students are able to learn more about the corporate setting. Culminating activities such as business case presentations were done to test how much the participants have learned from MTP. The Business College Government, in partnership with the Business Management Society, would like to thank everyone who participated and completed the program!
