The main human qualities we must educate in our children ourselves, and not give them to teachers, schools and other foreign people. As an example, you can use the author under the name Svetozar, who creates wonderful fairy tales for his children ...

The Bonfire

Long, or shortly, since Alex and his grandfather sat on the bench, but the number of questions became more and more. As if the legs themselves led him to the now familiar house. The grandfather sat on the bench and met him as if they knew each other for a long time. And the boy, to himself noted, that it was as though he was not visiting, but returning home. Everything in the grandfather's home was cozy, and so well and thoroughly set, that it seemed that from the very threshold one came to the very place of strength, which the grandfather had spoken about the last time. Here you are always

welcome. Here you are always met and offered shelter. It was so calm and simple, as it happens only in a wooden house. And right from the walls there seemed to radiate a force that seemed to feed you. By the way, grandfather and grandmother lived very simply. Wooden frame. Same on the inside, as on the outside. A stove, a table, and the two benches. This is all that Alex noticed for the time being in that hut. Although, the walls inside seemed to shine, in the shade of yellow light. Maybe this was the reason why it was so easy and cozy.

I just love sharing knowledge and wisdom I have accumulated through my works. Recently, and when I say "recently", I mean in the last year, I have noticed a trend: most folk magazines stop publishing after 8 (or so) issues. Well, the good news is that this is issue #10. However, I also realize as to why most folk magazines stop publishing so early in the game: it is because there is simply no interest. I am not going to lie to you and will say that absolutely the same is happening to Slava Rodu Magazine. I have made it my goal, that no matter what is going on in my business life, no matter what project I am working on, I will put everything aside four times a year and work on creating a new issue of Slava Rodu Magazine ... even though I never sell more than a handful of issues. For me, personally, especially when it comes to this magazine, it is never about the money, and it is always about the spread of knowledge and wisdom. I happily give away free digital copies of the magazine, knowing perfectly well that those, who prefer to hold something in their hands as they read, will always buy the newest issue. I am an optimist. I have always been an optimist. That is why I understand that as long as I am willing to put in the work, there will always be someone on the receiving end, who will appreciate it. I also believe that as long as I'm willing to put in the work, eventually my effort will prove to be fruitful and the reach of Slava Rodu Magazine will increase. Of course, I understand that it will never increase on its own, but I believe (and hope) that with the help of the readers (who will share the knowledge of its existence with their family and friends) the reach of Slava Rodu Magazine will increase. How can readers help? you may ask. Well, the simplest way is to ask me directly for a digital copy and to distribute the digital copy to your family, friend ... or even people you do not know, through channels of your choice. All you (as a reader) have to do is to contact me directly and ask me for a digital copy of any (or even all) issue(s) of the Slava Rodu Magazine. I will be happy to share with you, and we can discuss all of the details in confidence.

The grandfather put on the samovar. Heart-felt conversations were always loved in Russia with the cup of Ivan-tea. Maybe it was because no one very hurried anywhere, or maybe they simply loved to listen to each other. No matter how you look at it, all are relatives. In a word, people will sit down for a talk, and before you notice, songs are being sung. If the soul is heavy, the song will be sad; if the soul is happy, the song will be cheerful, then, before you notice, everyone is dancing ... and so fervently ... unable to stop. And rarely could anyone stay away from such fun. Maybe because it was sincere. "From the heart", as people say. By the way, I do not remember that even with those sad songs, such gatherings ended. Maybe because through those sad songs, all the sadness washed away? Sing such a song together, and all began feeling better, as it seemed. Light and joyful. "As if the stone fell from the soul," they tend to say. It seems you came to visit your neighbor and you were sad, a song was sung ... and that was all that was needed. Not just a simple song in Russia! A miracle - to say in one word! Now, songs are not sung so often. Only those songs are still alive in people. That's why they are called Folk! Truth or not, I do not know, but only to psychologists at that time no one went. And there weren't any of them, because of the fact that people went to friends and neighbors, and Russian people helped each other. From the soul, and from the purest heart. Or maybe, there were none of those strange psychologists, because everyone himself at that time in Mother-Russia could see into the soul, yes, and understood more than many scientists today. In a word, a riddle. Anyway. There will be another time to talk about this yet. And so, they sat down.

The grandfather here asks: "Well, Alex, what have you thought up?!" "I have words stuck in my head about the soul, what you spoke about on the bench that time, grandfather. How to open it then?" "To open it? It is not difficult to open. And there is nothing that is difficult in the world. To those who seek, the world itself opens. All you have to do is look and listen." the grandfather grinned. "Only need to listen properly. How about we start a bonfire?!" It was the beginning of autumn, and an autumn rain was drizzling in the yard. "But it's raining outside!" the boy looked out the window. "That is not a problem," the grandfather said with a sly squinting. He went out onto the porch. Looked at the rain clouds that hung right over the house. Whispered something under his breath (something that Alex did not catch). Smiled. In that moment he seemed to be sparkling, or maybe it only seemed so to Alex. He folded his calloused hands in a handful. He lifted them to his lips and blew into them, pointing to the sky and turning in the direction as if he was blowing away the clouds. Then, he whispered something else and went back into the house, to finish his tea. They sat silently for a few minutes and suddenly a ray of sunlight fell through the window glass. The boy glanced out the window and saw that everything seemed to blossom there. "Let's go" the grandfather simply said. Together they went out onto the porch and Alex did not believe his eyes. The wind, which seemed to come from nowhere, swayed

the treetops that stood nearby. It dispelled the clouds in the direction where the grandfather blew a few minutes ago. It was as if a huge bloom swept and cleared the way for the Sun. Slowly, without unnecessary movements, the grandfather went up to the woodpile, picked up an ax and began to chop wood. In his movements there was no fuss or rush, instead, they were filled with some kind of incomprehensible force. It seemed that it was not the ax that chopped the wood, but the wood itself, knowing that it was unable to withstand the grandfather, split into pieces. He seemed to just point with the ax to where the wood needed to split. It seemed like it was the usual thing for Alex. He saw how the wood was splintered on many occasions, he himself done it a few times. But either the grandfather did it differently, or he put some other meaning into this action, but the force that literally spilled around left no doubt that there was something else present besides the grandfather, the ax and the wood. After building a small bonfire at some distance in the meadow, the grandfather narrowed his eyes. "Well, ignite it, grandchild." "But, I do not have any matches. How can I start the fire?" the youngling looked puzzled at the grandfather. "Oh wow! And how did people live before, without matches?!" the grandfather frowned playfully. Meanwhile, Alex was already expecting another miracle and was already ready for the fact that grandfather would ignite the fire simply by looking at the wood, or maybe by waving his hands over it, or maybe the lightning would strike directly into the bonfire. In a word, he was ready

for all sorts of miracles. However, the grandfather just rummaged in his pocket and pulled out a strip of iron, or maybe it was a curved nail and a stone. In one moment, striking a "nail" on a flint, he created a spark, which fell on a wood shaving and ignited. The flames burned and the firewood came alive. The fire seemed to purr and greet them with grandfather. It was affectionate and somehow familiar, like a kitten. The firewood began to crackle cheerfully, and it became cozy and warm around. All the firewood took up and burned evenly. Suddenly, out of nowhere, a gust of autumn wind came. The whole bonfire seemed to immediately respond to it. As if the fire wanted to tear away and fly with the wind, wherever it went. The fire as if began to breathe and buzz, as if there was something it wanted to say. But there were only vowel sounds and that was why it was not very clear what exactly it wanted to say. It gained strength and flared up more and more. It seemed it was stronger and became very confident in its strength. Everything grew brighter and warmer near it. Now it no longer seemed so harmless as it was at first and the youngster stepped back a little, so as not to get burned. The flames seemed to dance in the wind. It seemed like it was really a dance, something like a round dance, or a Cossack dance. Yes!! The fire itself was alive! As alive as they are with grandfather near it! Why then before, the thought that a fire can be alive, did not come to Alex's mind. And now, it seemed he saw it completely differently. As if he could see, what he had not seen before. "What do you see, grandson?" the old man smiled slyly, as if he was reading his

thoughts. "The bonfire is as if alive! Same as we are!" the boy nearly choked with joy. The grandfather just laughed boyishly in response, and Alex noticed how his eyes sparkled, and it seemed as if it became even lighter around them. "Not many people now notice this. Before they understood more. Saw deeper. They looked at the essence. Maybe that's why they called Seers, those who saw it? And now they watch, but they do not see everything. So let us look with you, Alex. Fire, it's also a human. It is warm from it as from a human. It can warm and it can feed. It will dry your clothes and cook your food. If a person is strong, then he can cure all illnesses and sorrows within him, like fire, everything that's foreign will burn. To some it lights the path and points the way. To some it is familiar, like a hearth and affectionate. And to some, well, it can turn into a disaster. It can burn the house down, or burn inadvertently. Can bring misfortune. The smoke from it can hurt the eyes, the soot, the smell, again, will seem unpleasant to some. In a word, it is different for everyone. Just like a human. But the essence of it is the same, no matter how you look at it. Manifestations are different. One word - Fire!! In the old days, He was called Semargl. Was revered as one of the Deities. Others called Him - Kres. The living fire was so called, which was obtained by rubbing the wood together. From that, probably, the device for extracting fire was called either Kresalo or Ognivo. Well, you've seen it already. It can also be the reason for "christian" in Russia. Only earlier Russian people were called Krestians. Fire-worshipers

AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA

according to present beliefs. He who worshiped fire, and accepted and honored Him as the living. Maybe He saw it the same way. It was so in many villages. To this day, much has been preserved in our culture from those days. From that, in our language there are such expressions: "the person burns" or "he lit up" is said of those, who is in motion and is very active. Or "extinguished", "burned out" for example. Why do we compare people with fire? Maybe because in each of us there is a similar fire inside, which carries light and heat. And this fire can be a part of what we people call the soul." "Fire a part of the soul ... " the boy repeated slowly. "And maybe from then until now, grandmothers-witches remove curses and spoils with the aid of fire. They clean the soul from the spoil. But before, Alex, it was so: people after death were not buried in the cemeteries as now, but they created Krodas, the funeral fires, and they burned the dead. Sent them to the Heavens, to their relatives. Is it not from that that their souls were sent cleansed to the relatives in the Heavens? Just take a closer look and you will find the answers for yourself. For example: in the memory of fallen warriors in Russia, an eternal fire was ignited and maintained. This tradition is still alive today. It is done in order to animate the fallen brave warriors in a battle or war, who gave their lives for their homeland. Therefore for us they are always alive and with us. That's how much you can see if you look closely. Can all see this in your opinion, Alex?!"

"I do not know, I never looked so deeply." the boy said a little confused. "Let's look at something different now. Without what the fire will not burn?" "Without firewood!" the boy responded quickly. "Of course! You look at the fire then," the grandfather smiled. "Look and think. We are not in a rush. In a rush, you will always rush past the essence." "Without what else? Well, I do not know." he drawled. In the head the thought flew by: "Matches, Matches", but Alex chased away that thought, because he saw that they were not needed for the grandfather. "The bonfire is on top of what?" asked the grandfather. "On the earth." the boy responded. "Good. The earth is the support for the fire. Without support, the fire cannot be. Think further." Suddenly Alex remembered how the fire changed when it caught a gust of wind. "The wind!" he blurted out. "You're right! But let's talk about the wind another time, we will get to it. Let's call it air. Look what comes out. To our fire, no matter how you spin it, support is needed, well, as the soul in the body, so long as we say. "Firewood for the soul" in such a way impressions nourish the soul. Then from what joy appears or sadness. All according to the soul. Maybe there isn't enough firewood, so the fire will be small. Well, air is the spirit, which fills the soul with force. And if the water is heated by fire, we get a cloud of steam. Steam is another component of the soul by the way. That's why they say that "the soul is

hovering". Flies, in other words. Well, not all at once. But it all began with what?" the grandfather pointedly raised his finger up. "With a spark!" the boy suddenly realized. "Precisely!" the grandfather smiled in his beard. Not for nothing in Russia everything is done from the heart. "Sincerity is the word you know?" Grandfather asked with a sly grin. "Of course, I know it. But earlier I did not think about its meaning." "If the person is sincere, then this spark can ignite the fire within him. Fire is known to bring light and heat to other people. And cleans from filth all that, which is formed in the soul from grievances and vain anxieties. And when a person begins to live according to his soul, that is, to do what he desires to do, then he begins to feed his soul by this, and the fire flares up even more. And following the soul, as it is known, the body begins to move. From that, everything happens when you put your hand to it. And from that, he experiences joy, when enough light is within him. When his task is according to his soul. This is how the soul opens itself and is filled with light. And in everything you do, you invest part of your soul, not thinking about it. You just want for the light to be all around. You see how simple everything is." They remained silent for a while, enjoying the warmth from the fire. "And the fact that we are burning the wood is not bad? We are destroying it!" asked Alex suddenly. "And we made fire from what kind of wood?"

"From the dry ones," answered the youngster. "A dry tree is just waiting to be released. Its time in this world is over. Maybe because of it, it burns so well. A tree that was just cut will not ignite easily, it seems to cling to life. But for the dry one its the fastest way to the next world. Life is eternal, Alex." Meanwhile, the fire had already burnt out and only coals remained from it. But the strange thing is, the heat was not gone anywhere. It seemed to become even more palpable. It seemed that there is no fire, but it is still warm. As warm memories of someone close and dear. On that, they said goodbye and went each on their own business, and what kind of business can a boy have, who is only beginning to explore the world ... and the grandfather.

Tribunals of Animals in Europe of evidence of a crime; wild animals were subject to the jurisdiction of ecclesiastical courts, and the punishment they were subjected to was expulsion and death by means of incantation or excommunication. These punishments were far from comic, if it is true that St. Patrick drove into the sea all the reptiles of Ireland with incantations, or turned them into stones, and that St. Bernard, excommunicating the buzzing flies around him, laid them all dead on the floor of the church.

AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA AAAAA

In the Middle Ages and the New Ages in Western Europe, trials of animals took place regularly. This may seem like the peak of idiocy (which it actually was), but it is possible to explain the reasoning, if you take into account the superstitious mentality of the medieval world.

The right to bring domestic animals to justice rested, as on a solid rock, on Jewish law from the Book of the Covenant ("And surely your blood of your lives will I require; at the hand of every beast will I require it, and at the hand of man; at the hand of every man's brother will I require the life of man." (Genesis, chapter 9, verse 5)). In each case, a lawyer was appointed to protect the animals, and the whole process - judicial investigation, sentence and execution - was carried out with the strictest observance of all forms of legal proceedings and legal requirements.

With the light hand of the Catholic church from the end of the XIII century, the true cult of the Devil was established in society. Satan seemed to be everywhere - in the actions of people, the behavior of animals, objects of everyday life, even in natural phenomena. In addition, the principle of "an eye for an eye, a tooth for a tooth" was widely spread ... Thanks to the research of French antiquities lovers, the protocols of 92 processes were Many trials against animals are described in the published, which passed through the courts of classic work "The Golden Bough" by James France between the XII and XVIII centuries. But criminal courts are only a small part of the processes. The church did not stay aside, carrying out mass trials on animals. On these tribunals the accused were flies, caterpillars, locusts, cats, fish, leeches and even May beetles.

gravity of the crime. So, the ass, for brazenly devouring leaves of lettuce in a foreign vegetable garden, was sentenced to amputation of the ear. To the dog, who bitten the official, the Austrian court sentenced to "one year and one day of jail". Two killer pigs were buried alive in the earth. In most cases, however, they were limited to public hanging. Sometimes, animals were even dressed in clothes, so that everything looked "like people's". Throughout the process, the four-legged were in solitary confinement. Observed all the ceremonies - to the smallest detail. In the archives of the French city of Melen, a report on the costs of the execution of a pig survived:

In Lausanne, such trials took place with enviable regularity. In addition to the May beetles, they judged, for example, the caterpillars. When the latter devastated this district, they were "summoned to court" by the bells by the order of the bishop three times. At the same time, the people fell to their knees and, three times uttering the words of the prayers "Our Father" and "Virgin, Virgin, Rejoice", turned to the divine for help. And although the caterpillars did not appear in court, their interests were protected by a specially appointed lawyer. "The case", of course, was won by the community. According to the verdict, the caterpillars, which

became the refuge of the devil, were solemnly cursed in the name of the Father, the Son and the Holy Spirit, and they were ordered to leave all fields and disappear. It was not so! The defendants, according to the chronicles, "found that it is more convenient for them to continue living on the soil of Lausanne, and left the curses without any attention." Despite the ignoring of caterpillars of church sentences, the idea of summoning them to court stuck. So, in 1516, the inhabitants of the city of Vilnoz also sued the caterpillars. The verdict ordered the caterpillars to leave within six days the vineyards and lands of Vilnoz, threatening them in case of disobedience with a church curse. In 1519, a process against the field mice began in Glurns. The mice lost the case. The court ruled that "the harmful animals called the field mice are obliged to leave the arable lands and meadows within 14 days and move to another place". And in the same Lausanne, having finished with the caterpillars, in 1541 the people initiated a case against the leeches, which began to multiply with unprecedented rapidity, and it was enough to step into a puddle, as dozens of bloodsuckers immediately bit into the leg. The scheme of the processes was usually the same: after a self-evident triple non-appearance in the court of the defendants - mice, May beetles or caterpillars - the court had to make an absent judgment. In it, the guilty, under the pain of horrific spells from the church, was ordered to leave a certain area by the appointed time. However, sometimes the same caterpillars were brought to court by large numbers, as delegates from the "devil caterpillar community".

The processes with mass defendants were usually long. If single creatures were accused, the retribution for witchcrafts overtook them quickly. But most of all, cats were out of luck. Cats, for their misfortune, fit the role of diabolical creatures better than any other creature: walks at night alone, heartbreaking cries, the glowing in the dark eyes. In general, wicked behavior. It was clear to any fool that without the help of the devil it was not done. In addition to the inquisition tribunals and secular courts, mass extrajudicial executions also took place over the cats. In February, an annual festival was held in the town of Ypres, called the "cat's month", when live cats were thrown out from the central bell tower of the city. In case the beast remained alive, a pack of dogs was on duty at the bottom. The festivals, similar to the Yprian, existed in many regions of Western Europe: Flanders, Schleswig-Holstein, Upper Silesia, and others. The day of the feast of St. John became especially famous. On June 24 in many city squares of France gallows for cats were built, in many cities bonfires were blazing. In Paris, a high pillar was placed on Greve Square. At the top a bag or barrel was hung with two dozen cats. Around the pillar large logs, branches and bunches of hay were placed. Everything was set on fire, and in front of hundreds of fun-loving loafers, the poor animals burned, making horrible screams. In the Ardennes (Frances), cats were burned at the stake on the first Sunday of the fast.

The Inquisition and the simple "conscious citizens" tortured and killed the innocent "satanic offsprings" in such numbers that the cats were threatened with almost complete annihilation. By the XIV century, there were so few cats left that they could no longer cope with the rats who carried the bubonic plague. The epidemic began, in which, naturally, they accused not the Inquisition, but the Jews (since it was the Jewish law (stated above) which started it all). It was also believed that the reason for the plague was that the Jews were poisoning the wells. The "responsibility" for the epidemic was the "specialization", "carefully" assigned to them by the Catholic Church and secular authorities. In a wave of attacks that swept through Europe, approximately 200 Jewish communities were destroyed by an angry mob. It did not help. Then the mob switched to witches and began to burn them with incredible zeal, for which the popedegenerate Innocent VIII on December 5, 1484, publishes a fanatical bull "Summis Desiderantes". Now, at the stake of the Inquisition, witches and heretics will burn until the XVIII century. Together with cats. The rats, however, bred even more. The result is known - up to half of the population of Europe died from the plague.

Christians. A good mood contributes to a good appetite - at the beginning of the XVI century, rats and mice almost completely eat the harvest in Burgundy. There is a famine. And so on, in an enchanted circle. The church, as usual, is struggling with the misfortune of an old, proven method - calls rats to court. The epic process in the court of the Otensky church district, where rats were called as defendants, had to solve once and for all the problem with the vile creatures. The process was loud, quite long, the courtroom was shaken with evidence of the terrifying atrocities of rats. But the trial did not add to the harvest and slowly faded away by itself, bringing the next laurels only to the lawyer. And the surviving part of the population, tired of incapacitatingly burning witches and cats, suing rats and smashing Jews, comes up with a new enemy of Christianity - werewolves. In "enlightened Europe" the next holy war begins: the struggle against werewolves. But that's another story ...

The second half of the population, which has not died from the plague, no longer has any time or attention for the cats. Cats begin to multiply, the number of rats and mice decreases, the plague subsides and ... the destruction of the "devilish children" resumes with renewed vigor and with the same zeal. Mice and rats happily observe from their holes how the cats accused of collaboration with witches and the devil again disappear one after another and perish at the hands of the Inquisition and ordinary good

Twelve Minutes a Day

AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA AAAAAA

For millennia speech was for people as natural of an environment as air, and children mastered it completely spontaneously, and it seemed to be a natural ability. If someone took it into their head to teach their parents that they should talk with their child no less than a specific amount of time, they would consider it a joke, comparable with an instruction like "how to teach one to breathe". But what was once self-evident, today is no longer the same, and when recently one of the learning German hospital funds decided to publish a book for parents entitled "Talk to me!", designed to encourage them to talk with a child, they were not joking. The reason for such an act is obvious: the cost of training every third or fourth child in a special school for children with speech impairments would be prohibitive for a health insurance fund, not to mention that there would not be enough specialists to service such an influx. Therefore, all observers are unanimous in opinion: prevention is necessary! And for this, it is necessary to know what caused this phenomenon, and it turns out that there are a lot of reasons. In an interview for the press, as well as in the appendix to the mentioned book, specialists, for example phoniatrists Manfred Heinemann and Theo Borbonus (head of the school for children with speech disorders in Wuppertal), insistently point out that the growth in speech development disorders should be attributed not so much to medical factors, as with the changed socio-cultural conditions in which the current children grow. Hearing disorders caused by medical reasons, of course, have increased slightly, Heinemann believes, but still the main

18

SLAVA RODU

AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA AAAAA

reason doctors unanimously call the growing silence in families. Parents "today have less time for children: on average, the mother will have only about twelve minutes a day for a normal conversation with the child," Borbonus said. "High unemployment, increased pressure of competition and rationalization, painful failures of social insurance systems," he continues, "all of these make a person more depressed, dumb, indifferent." Teachers and parents, Heinemann believes, cannot cope with sudden social changes, with stresses and conflicts over divorce, with incomplete families and professional problems. Television harms the development of speech But the most potent factor, which harms the development of speech in children, is television, which consumes more and more time for both parents and children. The net viewing time (which should not be confused with the much longer TV time) in 1964 averaged 70 minutes per day in the Federal Republic of Germany, in 1980 this indicator rose to two hours for adults, and in 1998 it crawled to the mark (again for adults) to 201 minutes a day. This is equivalent to about three and a half hours of "radio silence" between the parents and the child. And it is absolutely impossible to have family conversations, if the lovely children are gifted with their own TV. Forced isolation makes them significantly increase the consumption of television, according to statistics. Children between the ages of three and thirteen without their own TV have a viewing time of 100 minutes a day, whereas for children with their own TV that factor is constantly growing. In 1999, the commissioner of the radio

station "Free Berlin" in her work with young people Inga Moore came to the conclusion: "Children with their own TV watch transmissions every day for more than three and a half hours." (She also notes that these children like to watch adult programs in the evening and late-night programs!) It is especially terrible that in 1998 this involved already the smallest children (three to five years old) - such, who watched TV from two to four hours a day was 10.3%, and another 2.4% watched TV programs for four to six hours or even more. Heinemann remarks about this: "But also these children, according to our information, also watch video films and play on a pocket electronic toy or on a computer". It should be added: it is these children that tend to have speech disorders, which should be seriously treated. Meanwhile, the damage to the development of speech in children is not only caused by the silence in front of the television screen. Heinemann emphasizes that in this respect, a TV with its "predominance of visual information", in itself adversely affects children. "Even the children's programs," he complains, "are often quite far from reality, and rapid changes in frames do not give the child the opportunity to follow the course of action properly. TV programs are often constructed stereotypically and therefore do not encourage the child to develop their own imagination and creativity. In addition, it is private television broadcasters that are dominated by action films and displays of violent scenes." Therefore, the speech of children in games with peers becomes meager - they are limited to exclamations like those found in comics, incoherent scraps of phrases and ridiculous imitations of noise, accompanying them with robot-like movements.

19

But the television screen not only prevents the formation of speech and articulation, it blocks both spontaneous, creative games and natural movement, not giving the children the stimuli they need so much to form the motor skills and senses. The lack of a variety of varying irritations from the environment can lead to a deficit in the formation of brain functions, Borbonus warns, while creative abilities, fantasy and intellect suffer. Based on many years of pedagogical experience, the scientist ascertains that due to the lack of primary stimulating irritations, the present children have more and more difficulty forming functions for perception of internal and external states - heat, balance, movement, scent, touch and taste. This deficit is only exacerbated by the shortage in large cities of playgrounds and stimulating conditions. Therefore, Borbonus calls for creating an environment that stimulates the development of children. "Human warmth,

games and movement are mandatory," says his conclusion.

To Adults About Children Part 3

The article by a reader concerns the actual for the majority of the theme of the upbringing of children. This time, we consider methods that can be conditionally called "Bargain", "Game", "Ultimatum". Also considered is a scale of emotional states that will help to better understand the essence of the proposed ...

AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA

Let us continue to speak about the techniques, methods, etc. of interaction of the adult with the child. These are suitable for children between 7-12 years of age. The "Bargain" Method It sometime happens that the child is misbehaving (for example: dos not want to clean up toys or other similar things) and ceases to listen or even throws a tantrum, and the "Attention Switching" (see previous issue) is not suitable for use. Also the method of "Do as I do" is not suitable. And sometimes it happens that father or mother clean up all the toys for him, and the child receives a "not very good" experience - a stereotype. That is, with a little tantrum or disobedience, the parents can be forced to clean everything up themselves. These manipulative habits can later very much interfere with life. You can use the "Bargain" method (those who do not like the name, you can call it differently, but the essence of this will not change much). The scheme of the method is simple - if you do this, then I will: I will do something OR will not do something. Much here depends on the

22

emotional tone that you use. The tone according to my classification includes: intonation, speed of speech, firmness of voice, expression of eyes, facial expressions, gestures, position of body in space, i.e. pose, etc. (that is, all non-verbal manifestations, as psychologists would say). I divided the tones conditionally for the simplicity of perception as follows: The Scale of Emotional Tones The Burning Fire Emotionally lofty, intonationally rigid, with high volume, with a rather high speech speed, accompanied by more or less sharp gestures, which are usually accompanied by serious (and even sporadic) suggestions for gross mistakes, unfair treatment of anything, either by rules or the like. Unacceptable option for the child, in exceptional cases can be used in later years (up to the age of 18). The Involving Fire Emotionally exalted (igniting = involving), intonationally passionate tone with medium or high speech speed, with enough animated open gestures, posture, facial expressions, often appealing to the best qualities, feelings, abilities of people, and involving them in some kind of process or inspiring to something: new achievements, complex tasks, overcoming, creating, etc. Suitable for working with a child, because children are very easily and quickly involved.

AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA AAAA

Metal Emotionally cold, intonationally indifferent, dismissing the distance, perhaps even somewhat arrogant, low-pitched tone with a low speech speed, with minimal and closed gestures (and pose) or without it, which makes it clear that a good relationship can end, and this is the last warning, and it's time to draw urgent conclusions, or the relationship has already ended ... and you need to "collect things". This tone is not suitable for working with a child. Earth Emotionally calm, firm, intonationally confident tone with an average speed of speech and loudness, with moderate, restrained (more closed or changing) gesticulation, serving for setting tasks, clarifying unclear questions and other training, conducting meetings, "analyzing flights", edification, announcement of foreclosures and the like. Suitable for working with a child, especially when he tries not to obey, misbehaving, etc. Tree Emotionally soft, sometimes intonationally sincere, hearty, speed of speech is low, quiet tone with an open (from the heart) restrained gestures, shortening the distance, suitable for soft inspiration or inspiration of a person for anything, persuading influence on him, explaining something to him, appeals to conscience or the best of its features, or to strengthen its faith in their strength, training, etc. Suitable for working with children. Air Emotionally easy, casual tone with varying

loudness and speed of speech, and intonation, with the same casual and more or less active open gesticulation, suitable for informal communication somewhere, hilarious pastime, joint recreation, play, etc. Suitable for working with children. Water Emotionally adjusting or, as it were, gently flowing, escaping from conflict situations or switching somewhere, an intonationally quiet, low-pitched tone, with a low speech speed, with restrained open-dismissive gesticulation (characteristic shrug and shoulders), suitable for reflecting verbal aggression on the part of people, unfounded accusations, evasion from manipulation, etc. Suitable for working with children. In order to affect the person in general, and the child, in particular, you need to be able to move on a scale of tones depending on the situation and adequately to it. We as though rocking the boat, switching the intonation, a facial expression, gestures, for we need to change "position of the boat" = the arisen situation. When rocking the boat becomes unstable, it is easier to turn. But do not overdo it, do not turn it over, or the boatsituation will drown. Let us continue. The child does not want to clean up toys or clothes, or the older child does not want to clean the room. We speak in the "Tree": my friend ... / my dear ... / Katie, etc., if you are well today ... / quickly ... / without crying ... (note the quality criterion of work) you will clean up all toys, then tomorrow we will go to the cinema, to the theater, to the pool ... / tomorrow you will not go (for example) to the kindergarten, but you will go ... (where?), etc. You can always include game elements, including role playing.

SLAVA RODU

25

The "Game" method. For example, you say: "Come on, I'll be a wolf who wants to eat all your toys, but you need to have time to hide them (in a box, in a closet). Therefore, come on, who'll win!". Of course, the wolf does not have to be in a hurry, the child must find a way to defeat the wolf.

AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA

I was once asked to give examples for older children ... Alright, an example of "Games": "Alex, let's compete for the prize - if you clean the toys faster than I peel 5 potatoes, then I'll buy you ice cream ... / game, which you wanted ... / we'll go to a movie on Sunday ... ", etc. etc. It is clear, who should win here. Otherwise, such a method will not work the next time. We return to the method of "Bargain". In the "minus" version it can sound: "Honey / Princess, etc., if you do not remove your toys, then we cannot go to the pool tomorrow ... / we will not go ... therefore, come on, pick up faster, especially, since the toys want to go to sleep ... / father will come and will not like what he sees ... " (a few more arguments can be added). You can always include game elements, including role-playing. If the intonation is strengthened, and you "climb" the scale of tones from "Tree" to "Earth", up to its extreme degree, and slightly change the words, then "Bargain" will turn into the method of "Ultimatum": "Alex, quickly clean all toys, or we are not going to the pool tomorrow!" And this, too, may be relevant in the situation, for example, if the child does not respond to calmer tones. A very good method is "Rationalization", encouraging a child or a teenager to think. Verbal forms of it can be many. The method can sound, both in the form of a question, and in the form of a half-question-statement, which it is suggested to comprehend. For example: "Alex, do you think

26

the toys are warm on the floor? They are freezing. We need to move them into the house (box)." You can always include game elements, including the role-playing game. Or, for example, such a more "pure" rationalization: "Alex, you need to clean up toys today ... / clean up your room, because tomorrow we are going to the forest for the whole day, and tomorrow you will not have time ... We'll return to such a mess ... And in the morning you are going to the kindergarten / school ... " It is not necessary to do a smart rationalization, such are more suitable for older children (for example, for 6-7 years). For the younger it is better to add elements of "Bargain", "Ultimatum" (you will not go to the forest, you will stay home alone), "Games". Or even a better option: "Alex, why do you think it is better to put toys away in the box? Why can't them lay on the floor?.." And when the child calls out one reason, it is better to ask: "And why else?.. And why else?" - and so you will develop the thinking of a small person. It is also possible after 2-3 answers of the child, to give your own answer ... especially if the child is at a loss. Can you guess why? I try to give you the same situation (with toys) to show different ways of influencing the same situation. There are also the same methods of influence, suitable for different situations. There are also different ways of influencing for different situations. And much more happens ... And this is the basis of thinking and a diverse vision of the world, and, finally, the rudiments of logic. Adults should also be able to think, first of all. Nevertheless, I will give a couple more examples

of the development of the child's thinking for 5-7 years. The problem with cars. We give him a problem, drawing it on paper. From our city to the village (or vice versa) 2 roads lead - one straight, and the other is curved, the detour. And from the city to the village 2 cars left, one on a straight road, the other on the curved. Which car will arrive first? Why?.. After all, most likely right answers, we say that it turned out that the car on the curved road arrived first. Why did this happen? For what reasons?... If the child provides the answers, we ask: "More?.. More?" You can set the conditions that one car was a freight truck, and another a minivan ... There are many possible variations here. You can come up with such tests yourself. If the child cannot find even one answer / reason, tell him one (this is important). After solving the problems, it is equally important to draw at least some conclusions, to summarize. A smart child does it with pleasure, if only offered. written by: Doc. The Head of the Family

AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA A

In the moment of the family creation, the man has to think seriously about who he would like to be in the family "play" - a simple spectator, a puppet actor, an extra, a stage worker, a cashier, an equal partner, or a wise director who defines each member of the family, his or her role and measure of influence on the course of the play. The latter option, of course, is very tempting. But you cannot appoint yourself as the head of the family, you have to win the role of the leader, in the very similar way as you win the love of your wife or how you win respect from others. What qualities are needed for a man, so that he can become the head of the family? First and foremost, he needs to get the idea that it is the family that is most important in his life, and only then his career, business, favorite leisure, friends and hobbies. After all, if the family is not important to you, then how can you be the head of the family? And all other qualities fall under the notion of "willingness to take responsibility for the family". The man who take responsibility, will not tell his wife: "Do it yourself with my mother, I do not interfere in women's affairs"; will not begin to rant about the "fruits of women's upbringing", if there are problems with the son; will sacrifice, without hesitation - fishing, football, etc. for the sake of family needs; will not bring friends into the house when the refrigerator is empty; will not throw out an excessively large amount from the family budget for his needs; will not be afraid to admit own mistake; will not assert himself at

30

SLAVA RODU

the expense of his wife; will not offend her with jealousy; will not create conditions under which she will apply to him for every penny; will not infringe on her rights, including in the most important - the woman's right to be weak. The man who takes on responsibility, financially provides for the family and tries to help his wife at home; participates in the upbringing of children; stubbornly learns quiet tranquil of spousal love, rather than seeking a thrill on the side; keeps everyone in the field of vision and tries to pay attention to everyone. He is hardworking and loves to work hard, because he has someone to live and work for; is responsible for his words, adheres to the agreement and fulfills the promise. He is confident in himself and his forces, calmly follows the advices of his wife, if he considers them reasonable. Such a man is decent, because it is important for him that children are proud of their father. He develops a strategy for the preservation and development of the family. The head of the family is the wise ruler of a small family state, not afraid to take on the burden of the most responsible decisions and at the same time not shy away from "dirty work" in solving small domestic problems ... A perfect option? Of course. And it is quite normal if the perfection is unattainable for the majority. Do not suffer from the fact that most will not fall under "perfect". Ideals are needed in order to know what to strive for, with what to compare the course of their development and how to educate own children - both at home and at school. The "perfect" is a landmark, a guiding star in the path of self-improvement. In order to be a real head of the family, it is important to be a real man. But not everyone puts the same meaning into this concept. More than once I had to observe how the honorable title of "real man" was awarded by women to inconspicuous (at first glance!) and even frail men. This happened when they committed courageous actions, showed determination and endurance in critical situations, miracles of professionalism. Many believe that the concept of "real man" includes pumped muscles; the ability to "strike in the face"; rude manners; propensity to profanity; negligent, slightly arrogant treatment of women; priority of male friendship; emphasis on their masculine abilities; the indispensable presence of "male vices" in the form of smoking, drinking, sleeping around, etc. This is a system of values from a transitional age, when external male attributes are important to young men for sexual self-identification. During this period, the main efforts of adolescents are aimed at appearing to be men. Courage in them is sometimes replaced by bravado, self-confidence by bragging, and inability to organize oneself and achieve the goal is covered up with the philosophy of "I don't give a crap". But all this is too small for a mature person, the main criteria of which is the development of volitional and emotional spheres. It is important to be a man, and not just appear to be one. The will to self-organization and self-discipline, the will to daily small victories over oneself, the ability to curb one's instincts and bad inclinations, to take responsibility for oneself - these are truly masculine qualities. Not all boy (young men) develop them. That's why there are male-boys with gray hair on their temples. The strength of the spirit is more important for a real man than the strength of his muscles. Courage is manifested in not being afraid of responsibility and not walking

AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA AAAAAAAAA

away from it. A real man will never be a tyrant in the family. Only the not-so-real-men tend to humble and suppress women, the weak-spirited men who have not been able to assert themselves in the professional or social spheres. Like those who cannot forgive a woman, if she at least surpasses him in something - more educated, intelligent, earns more. The simplest and most primitive is selfaffirmation on the basis of gender. It is unworthy and embarrassing to make a strong man out of yourself, by humiliating one who is weaker than you. Or worse, someone who depends on you. Or completely disgusting - the one who loves you. A real man is self-confident, noble, generous and not petty; he does not torment himself with doubts about his value, including for his family. It make no sense to increase one's self-esteem by humiliating others. But what do the men themselves see as their role in the family? We conducted a blitz poll in the nearest male environment, and most of the respondents answered in the same way: "Financially provide for the family." Without argument. This is very important, but involuntarily there is an association with an old anecdote: "A man is a male plus money." Many men in our time feel their own defectiveness in that they (in their opinion, or according to their wives) do not provide enough for their family. But "not enough" is an indefinite concept. A similar complex of inferiority can be suffered by both the teacher and the businessman-millionaire. It's not about the amount of money, but about the availability of an alternative value system, which is much more important than prosperity. Being an ideologue of the family, a spiritual leader, being able to stop a women, and then children in the race for increasing material wealth, is also the responsibility of the head of the family (of course, we are not talking about the extreme options associated with the family's abandonment of basic life needs). When asked what the role of the head of the family was, the 16-year-old boy answered: "Build and provide money for all". Unfortunately, such a teenage view of leadership in the family is quite typical in the male environment. With this approach, a man acts as a kind of tyrannical tyrant, and money is viewed as a kind of indulgence for the right not to penetrate into everyday problems, into the life of the family, to not share the anxieties and feelings of the wife, not to satisfy (no, it's not about the sex), first of all emotional needs. "What do you want from me, I bring in the money" - sounds, unfortunately, in many families. But no money can be used in order to be paid off from family responsibilities, the money does not compensate for callousness, mental deafness and moral stagnation. A good husband is obliged not only to bring money into the house, but also to listen to his wife, to share her concerns, to give her empathy, to sympathize, to provide attention to the smallest anxieties and pains. This does not mean doing something for her or instead of her. Most likely, what lies in the sphere of purely female responsibilities, she will do herself. But the involvement of her husband in matters important to women increases her self-esteem, supports her confidence in the importance of her role in the family, gives strength to fight routine. Men! It does not matter how often you have the opportunity to pay attention to your spouse. It can only be a couple of hours a week. But if a woman knows that at the first opportunity you will try to give her real, and not formal attention, that your soul will respond to her joy and sorrow, she will patiently wait.

After all, thirst is much easier, if you know that you are going to the spring of spiritual communication. But it is unbearable, if you are sure that you are in an emotional desert. Family as the meaning of life - is it not small for a man, who is destined to play the main role in society? Not at all. A good family man will be a good teacher, since ideals are not alien to him; a responsible politician, because he dreams of his children living in a civilized state; a brave warrior, because he has someone to protect. For a real man, the family is a kind of springboard, an aerodrome for spiritual and social take-off to creative activity. written by: Maria Kirilenko, Anna Yatsenko translated by: Dmitiry Kushnir

Treatment of Pregnant Women by Ancestors In conditions of the north with a cold long winter and a short summer, it was possible to survive only as a large community. Therefore, the life and health of each newborn child - the future full-fledged worker and breadwinner - was very much appreciated. It is precisely in connection with the desire to survive, and thus to preserve the strength of the community and the health of all its members, that great care is attached to pregnant women and children. One of the consequences of such concern was the fact that women gave birth to children not every year, but every two to three years, which allowed the newly born baby to become healthy and strong. Another consequence of caring for the descendants was a large number of members of northern families, which allowed for the organization of constant supervision of children, and thus prevent all possible household misfortunes. The continuation of kin was always been the most urgent problem for small northern tribes. First of all, the simplest and most natural means were used for survival, but if they did not help, they resorted to the help and protection of the other World. It was believed that there is some other, or otherworldly, World inhabited by all powerful entities (Deities). This "other" World is in constant contact with the material (physical) World, where humans live, and can both help and harm them. It was always believed that favorable to people were only the Deities - the patrons of the kin (family), on which depended the happy future of new generations of children and grandchildren. At the same time, the possibility of anger and discontent on their part was not ruled out, if people in some way were guilty before them or did not give them due respect. The wrath of these Deities promised many troubles and misfortunes to all the vast relatives. Therefore, our Ancestors distinguished them especially from a pleiad of numerous Deities and sought to maintain their good disposition by various available means. Prior to the forced christianization of Rus, in the pantheon of the Slavic Deities, as the guardians of the tribe, were especially revered: Rod - the Deity, patronizing the continuation of the family, marriage, childbearing; Rozhanitsy - the Deittesses Mother and Daughter, patronizing the brides, married, pregnant and those who already gave birth women; helping a woman to become pregnant, to safely endure, to give birth to a child and guide and protect the child to adulthood. Later the Deittesses of Rozhanitsy began to be called Lada (the Deittess-Mother) and Lelya (the Deittess-Daughter);

Ancestral-Ancestors - deceased relatives, endowed with magical powers and abilities, which provided the generic well-being of their descendants. The cult of the Ancestral-Ancestors eventually transformed and found its continuation in the image of the house spirit - Domovoy; Domovoy - the Deity (or spirit) patron of the home, the hearth and the family living in the house.

AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA AAAAAAAAAA

When the tribes began to mix, the Deities migrated from one culture to another. The historical process moved inexorably forward. The ancient Deities, who were honored by the Slavic tribes, in time were changed to gods, who came from Byzantium. But the people's memory has preserved the images of the ancient Deities, who so long helped our Ancestors. The memory of the Deittesses Rozhanitsy, for example, has preserved a folk costume in the form of embroideries depicting the Deittesses of Lada and Lelya, which were embroidered on the hem and mantle of the shirts. These images are also preserved in the patterns on towels, trays and other household items. With the advent of christianity, the successor of the Deittesses Rozhanitsy became the image of the Virgin. The Honoring of Rod in Calendar Celebrations In the ancient culture it was considered necessary to offer gifts, offerings and sacrifices to the Deities, whose patronage was sought. Sacrifices in favor of Rod were considered an indispensable tribute of respect, which must be given to the Ancestors in order not to lose their patronage and help for themselves and their children. Belief in the need for compulsory sacrifice in favor of Rod and Rozhanitsy has come down to our days in many everyday bits and traditions, as well as in calendar celebrations. Until recently, in the Slavic agricultural calendar, there were the following celebrations, which carried the memory of this: January 8 - "Women's Porridge", a feast of commemoration of midwives, when the whole village visited a midwife, i.e., went to her with offerings. The midwife (usually a grandmother) in return fed all of her "grandchildren" and all her guests with a sweet steep porridge with honey. The grandchildren and all the male population of the village came to help the grandmother with the household. On this day, they congratulated and presented gifts to all pregnant women and those who had already given birth. It is noteworthy that the "Women's Porridge" falls on the day after Christmas, which indicates the great importance of this national celebration; March 14 - is the day of Saint Evdokia or "Evdoshki", a celebration of the praising of the pregnant and those who already gave birth, an echo of the ancient celebration of the New Year during spring, during which the fertility forces were called for the forthcoming agricultural season

to bring the harvest. Pregnant women and women who already gave birth were considered as the guides of these forces and could give them to the land, so the land would also "bear" like them. Therefore, on March 14, they were honored and presented with the sole purpose of appeasing and thereby ensuring a new harvest. It was this day that was considered the spring feminine, originally Slavic, celebration.

The Understanding About the Embodiment of the Baby's Soul in the Mother's Body A pregnant woman still in the foreseeable past, both in the village life and in the urban environment, was in a special situation, as it was the great mystery of the embodiment of the soul in the child's body. According to the ancient understanding, all the souls of the dead Ancestors live "in the next World", that is, in the other World. According to the beliefs of the Slavs (which coincide with the views of other Into-European peoples), the body is the temporary dwelling of the soul into which it is placed at birth or during the conception of the child, and which leaves when the person dies. The soul is immortal and is involved in the circle of many reincarnations. In this cycle of births and deaths, the dead Ancestors are potentially descendants. The soul of the baby comes into the World of Humans from the Ancestral home, when it decides to continue its earthly path. The fate, life, hour of death and birth of a human is determined by the great universal law. This law is subordinated to everything in the earthly and heavenly World, according to it, the cycle of reincarnations of the human soul is being established. Thus, a pregnant woman who carries a descendant - in the past - an Ancestor, was on the border between two Worlds: the World of Humans and the otherworldly supernatural World of Ancestors. Realizing the connection between the Worlds, being an expression of the universal law, the pregnant woman carries a magical power and is under the vigilant protection of the deified Ancestral-Ancestors. Therefore to offend or to wrong her - meant to insult all the Ancestors and to anger them. At the same time, insulting a pregnant woman, refusing her request, disrespectful attitude to her meant harming all descendants. All this could bring on the house of the offender disasters and misfortunes. According to later understandings, associated with the advent of christianity, when the faith in the Ancestral-Ancestors began to be forgotten and gone, it was believed that through a pregnant woman, "god" shows up on the Earth from the spirit of man. In popular beliefs, she was considered a being marked by "god's" sign, because she had a child - a sprout of new life, bestowed by "god". It was the mystery of reincarnation, when the spirit turns into a man of flesh and blood. Thus, the pregnant woman is a manifestation of divine craft, a link between the past and the future. Since the mother is the instrument for the accomplishment of the great divine miracle, then she herself becomes at this time the embodiment of supernatural forces; becomes a

"goddess" in miniature - the Virgin. Rule of Conduct Towards Pregnant Women In the Slavic village there were long established rules of conduct towards pregnant women, the only purpose of which was to preserve the mother's health and to ensure the health of the child. They formed under the influence of objective necessity and included all the most rational. At the heart of these rules lay both purely domestic, and religious-magical reasons. Returning to domestic reasons, I remind the reader that the health of the mother and the child was a necessary condition for the survival of the peoples of the middle belt of Russia and the Russian north, which are engaged in subsistence farming. But in order to survive here, a man must have not only strong health and endurance, but also a very calm, balanced character, which excludes irritability, anger, flightiness, scandalousness and stubbornness - in short, everything that might jeopardize the possibility of survival. Many of these rules, as you will see below, are dictated by the concern for the development of the child's future positive character traits. To achieve this goal, eliminated the slightest reasons for the development of its negative qualities. At the heart of the irrational reasons for such a caring attitude toward a pregnant woman, as mentioned above, was the notion that the child she had borne was a deified Ancestor whose anger was feared. At the same time, they feared the unwise act in relation to her to harm all future generations of descendants. In addition, there was a perception that the souls of relatives can be incarnated only within own kin, so every child in the womb was considered the soul of the relative incarnated in the body - grandfather, great-grandfather, great-grandmother, etc. Every living person, after his death, could get a new life in a new body from his grandsons or greatgrandchildren. Not wanting to cause harm to his family, and therefore to himself, the pregnant woman has always been treated respectfully and carefully. Not to mention the religious fear of Deities' anger and the anger of the dead, to the community of which sooner or later everyone will join. So, birth was considered one of the greatest mysteries of human life. Observant and savvy villagers knew that the well-being of the child is laid when it is in the womb of the mother. With the well-being of the mother, the health and happy destiny of the future baby was directly related. Therefore, in the traditional behavior and way of life rules and stereotypes of behavior towards a pregnant woman were established to ensure the welfare of both her child and herself.

AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA AAAAAAAAAA

Care of a Pregnant Woman in a Rural Environment The position of the pregnant woman in many respects depended on the prosperity of the family, its mutual consent, the number of workers, the personal qualities of the pregnant woman herself and many other reasons. But the most common, if not popular, opinion was that the

SLAVA RODU

41

pregnant woman needs to "be taken care of". We already considered the religious-magical basis of this opinion at the very beginning of our narrative and can be briefly repeated that the main was the desire not to harm the body and the soul of the intrauterine baby. As soon as the family members began to suspect that a woman was pregnant, immediately everyone around her became "softer": they stopped reproaching her if she decided to "take a little breath", tried not to upset her, not to scold her, to protect her from hard work. It was especially observed that she was not "shaken" and "was not hurt". If the pregnant woman, despite the persuasion, continued to work as before, the family under some pretext put her to some other matter, wherever she was not so tired. The pregnant woman usually concealed the fact of her pregnancy even from her own husband. Family, and neighbors, always played along with her in this and did not ask any direct questions about her pregnancy and the period of delivery. Moreover, such question were even feared, fearing suspicion of evil intent against a pregnant woman. It was believed that only those who wished to inflict harm on her and the future baby could openly ask about this. To ask a pregnant woman about the term of pregnancy and childbirth was the right only reserved for the husband, her own mother and mother-in-law, and then only when they were practically sure that she became pregnant. The sheer and even deliberate care of the household, from the moment when the pregnancy became noticeable, constantly increased as the delivery approached and reached the highest point immediately before it. The closer the matter to childbirth, the more cautious and categorical was the care of the pregnant woman, removing her from work related to lifting weights and requiring stress and greater physical effort. It even came to the point that the work of lifting weights was performed by neighbors, not to mention the husband and the family. In some cases, the pregnancy was even used as relief from public works, which were carried out by the whole community to ensure the communal prosperity. The psychological comfort around the "bellied woman" sought to create not only in the circle of her family, but also at the level of her village. Often, the curious neighbors visited the pregnant to give some advice and to help with the housework. Obligatory and certainly not in any way superfluous was considered to bring her a treat. In some places it was considered indecent to go into a pregnant woman's house empty-handed and could cause public condemnation. In her house, the pregnant woman was visited by childless women and women on the first year of marriage, who came bearing rich gifts, as to have some fertility power "rub off" on them. All the wishes of the pregnant woman were fulfilled unconditionally. All her oddities, disgust, whims were taken into account. If she wanted to eat or wear something special, such things were done with question. In some places, to refuse her such a request, especially if her request concerned the edible, was considered a sin, because "the soul of the baby" requires it. According to folk beliefs, if the pregnant woman asked for money, any thing or something edible and was refused, this could bring up the abuser's house if not her anger, then certainly the

wrath of her Ancestors. And then in a short time in such a house could be a misfortune: mice or rats chew all the clothes, a moth will eat all woolen things ... But if the person wanted to, but could not fulfill the request of the pregnant woman, in order to avoid misfortune, he could after her leaving, throw sand, bread, a piece of clay or earth, a coal or some sort of rubbish after her. Although this was done rarely, for people were afraid to cause harm to the child, because it was believed that in this case the newborn will eat clay, earth, etc. all his life. It was also believed that if you refuse the request of a pregnant woman, then "koltun" may happen to her (that is, her hair can become so entangled, that it may not be combed and would have to be cut). Pregnant women were protected from fright or other nervous experiences and disorders. That is why she was not allowed to walk alone in the forest, was prevented from attending funerals, was not allowed to watch how the cattle was slaughtered, was protected from quarrels. All tried not to irritate her, so that the character of the child did not deteriorate. These rules existed in the people's life in the form of an unwritten law, the observance of which was followed by every villager. Failure of any of them could bring on the head of the transgressed not only the anger of the Ancestors, but also universal condemnation. Some of such have already been stated above. Now we will unite them and present them in a more concrete form:

1. You cannot deny a pregnant woman her requests, whatever they are, if she asks for something to buy for herself. 2. It is necessary to satisfy all desires and whims of the pregnant woman in food, to feed her with the best products. To refuse a pregnant woman in her desire to eat a product was considered an unpardonable sin. 3. You cannot avoid gifting a pregnant woman on holidays. If a house is visited where a pregnant woman lives, then she is always presented with a gift. Such small "sacrifices" are made in order to ensure own well being. 4. You cannot insult and scold the pregnant woman, to cause scandals or quarrels in her presence, to scold or resolve arguments. Moreover, it is impossible to cause a fight in her presence. Traditionally, a pregnant woman was protected from quarrels. Everyone tried not to irritate her so that the child's character did not deteriorate. 5. The pregnant woman is to be protected from all that is frightening, she is never to be afraid, or to see anything ugly. Traditionally, it was believed that she must be protected from all fears and passions. 6. It is necessary to show the pregnant woman only beautiful, especially beautiful human faces, so that the future baby was beautiful and healthy. 7. The pregnant woman should be protected from hard work, and if this cannot be done in full,

then it is necessary to help her in their implementation. The pregnant woman should never perform work related to lifting weights; she is to be completely excluded from running, jumping, sharp movements, jerks, pull-ups and all that could cause a shaking of her body and hurt the child. Also all situations are to be excluded, where there is a risk of falling and bruising, which could lead to injury or death of an intrauterine baby or cause premature birth. 8. It is necessary to surround the pregnant woman with an atmosphere of goodwill and sensitivity, to show caring and affection towards her. The abandonment of the pregnant woman in caress and care was almost a sacrilege, because it was believed that the character of the baby was spoiled. 9. It is necessary to forgive the pregnant woman all her oddities and indulge all her fantasies and strange desires. It was believed that in this way the soul of the child speaks. 10. You cannot hold a grudge against a pregnant woman. If a pregnant woman asks for forgiveness, it was a sin not to excuse her. However, people always tried to prevent such situations and went to her themselves in order to settle a dispute. There was a custom of "forgiven days", when all relatives for 1-2 months before the birth came to apologize to the pregnant woman, and she in turn asked forgiveness from them. Such ceremonies, when all conscious and unconscious resentments were forgiven, could be repeated almost every week, since it was believed that an unforgiven, unsettled resentment could lead to misfortune during childbirth.

Nutrition of Pregnant Women in the Folk Tradition In the Slavic village, there was a system of natural nutrition with mandatory observance of fasts, long established in our tradition. According to this system, the pregnant women also ate, but an "amendment" was made for them. It consisted, first, that pregnant women were never denied the use of milk and dairy products. Secondly, all the wishes of a pregnant woman with respect to food should have been fulfilled at the first demand, since it was rightly believed that "the baby's soul requires this". Pregnant women did not fast! In wealthy and consonant families, as a rule, the pregnant woman was supplemented, giving her, apart from others, more nutritious food. Often you could see that she was seated at the children's table, where the diet was always significantly more nutritious, tastier and more varied than at a common table. Physical Activity of a Pregnant Woman For the successful term of pregnancy, it was considered important not only full nutrition, but also the physical preparedness of a woman who, moreover, played a very important role during the course of labor and the outcome of childbirth. Since ancient times, walking, turns, slopes, squats and all kinds of movements from the "on all fours" position have been considered useful and always permissible. According to the

village understandings, all such movements were safe and were beneficial to her, since they could bring relief in childbirth. Therefore, the "belly" was directed to those works that were associated with these movements: - harvesting, washing (tilting, turning); - washing the floors (squats, position on all fours); - picking berries, mushrooms (walking, slopes, turns, squats); - walking. In modern conditions of life, we cannot, unfortunately, provide a woman with enough physical activity by the same means. But you need at least provide her with a sufficient duration of walks. Time for each person is limited, but a daily walking tour together with the expecting mother for 1.5-2 hours for the sake of the health of the baby, whose birth you are looking forward to, is not a big sacrifice. If to daily walks with a future mother, one is to add mandatory weekly country walks, and also to provide her with the opportunity to practice special gymnastics for pregnant women, it can be said that the conditions for bearing a child in this regard are close to ideal. AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA A AAAAAA

Recently, I discovered a book full of wisdom of Life. it was originally written by the elder Andriy Voron. Andriy Voron lived a full life and died at the age of 104. Even though he was an elder, and did die at 104 years of age, he did not die of a natural death. After his death, it was discovered that gramps Voron left quite a legacy. He wrote down the wisdom that he learned throughout his life in order to pass it on to all who are willing to listen. In this segment, I present you witht he wisdom of Gramps Voron. Do not overeat! A hungry beast is more cunning and quicker than a well-fed man. With a handful of dates and a mug of wine, Roman legionaries ran in full ammunition 20 kilometers, crashed into the enemy ranks and fought half a day without respite ... and from the satiety and debauchery of the patricians, the Roman empire fell. The best and healthiest dwelling for a person is made of clay. From the fact that it is also molded. Worst of all - from concrete, in which there is a metal mesh. No need to travel far for medicines. Nature has prepared them for us in the neighborhood. Willow - one of the first plants, it was one of the first after the worldwide flood to become green on the banks. There are countless uses for the willow: headache, neuralgia, neuroses, rheumatism, liver, stomach, gout, cold ... A tablespoon of chopped willow add to 0.5 liters of boiling water and cook on low heat for about five minutes. Let is sit. Drink a tablespoon three times a day. Apply fresh leaves to calluses. Powder from the bark is used to cover wounds and to stop bleeding. A decoction made of bark or twigs adds to an excellent bath for legs suffering with

varicose, eczema, furunculosis, sweating, baldness. Live where there is pure air. If this does not work for you, at leave be more often where there is clean air. After dinner, I spend half hour strolling around the garden. When you eat, do not drink. Do not drink before or after eating. In order not to go with the child to hospitals and pharmacies, give it to the hands of Nature. From a young age, teach to walk on the ground barefoot. This is the strongest hardening. The child was burnt in the sun - it will do good, bitten by a wasp or an ant - also good, stung with nettles, bathed in cool water, was scratched with a thorn, ate a carrion in the garden - that means, he was tempered from the ailments, became stronger in the body and in spirit. Such are the simple advices and words of wisdom of gramps Voron. As with everything, use your own better judgement and look for more advices and words of wisdom from gramps Voron in the next issue of Slava Rodu.
