Do Not Turn The "Other Cheek" I often hear such things as "tolerance" or "turn the other cheek". Well, in my opinion, such things are for the weak, and instantly brings another word to mind "bullying". I immediately remember the poor children in school, who instead of standing up to their abusers, are told to simply ignore such behaviour. I, too, was bullied once in high school ... ONCE! I still remember that incident pretty well, and will share it with you here, just as an example of how to "fight fire with fire". It was an average morning, approximately two decades ago. I had just switched high schools, due to my family moving to a different area of the city we were living in. I was the "new kid" and apparently it meant I could be messed with. As I was waiting outside of the cafeteria, one guy came up to me, and without a warning, just pushed his whole weight into my chest with full force, knocking me to the ground. I immediately saw a smile on his face, no doubt his thought at that moment was "I own you now". My thought, on the other hand, was "not today, buddy!" I jumped back to my feet faster than my attacker could react and got into his face ... smilling. I was never huge, but at 6'4", I always knew how to intimidate with my height. I did not attack, I waited for his next move, and I didn't have to wait long. My attacker took a step back. I can only imagine the amount of abuse I'd have to take over the next two remaining years of high school, had I "turned the other cheek". Those, who assume they have the power over others, have to constantly confirm to themselves and others that they still have control, and the only way to confirm that is by abusing others. So remember ... DO NOT TURN THE OTHER CHEEK!

People, even though under the influence of their will, could still easily visit the Deities in the Heavens (this will be explained in part 3). To sum up: the "kingdoms" (spheres of influence) of the Deities send signals to the chakras, and the chakras send signals to the glands within our bodies, which inject a hormone into the bloodstream, and people (people without own will especially) are unable to resist the will of a particular Deity. The reason is - the crystal kingdoms in the heavens are classified - and with them, the answers to these two simple questions. The fact is, the spheres are constantly rotating relative to each other at a breakneck speed. Their friction against the ether creates a sound wave. 7 spheres - 7 notes. The space between the spheres is also divided into layers - tones. The tones, in turn, are divided into half-tones. The lowest sphere is the largest, so the sound created by it is the lowest (rough). Ritual Sacrifice Fact vs. Fiction

Among the people who know about the Slavic paganism only by hearsay, the stereotype of the practice of human sacrifice is rather actively enforced among the ignorant. In fact, such a stereotype is no more than a myth. The Slavic "bloody human sacrifices" exist solely in Christian teachings "against the pagans". Such practice has existed only among some semi-wild peoples at the earliest stages of the development of society. When we talk about paganism in its developed form, such phenomena is never seen. Some echoes exist only in, wild by definition, military caste, and, consequently, in their limited caste cults. And even then, not everywhere, but in the archaic echoes, and often in symbolic form. And only as much as their "profession" itself is related to death on daily basis.

The Slavs, however, never practiced human sacrifice at all, except in the Christian propaganda, on par with other sins and delights. This is explained by nothing other than the essence of sacrifice in the pagan cults itself. And the essence of it is in the following. Pagan Slavs brought offering to their Ancestors and Deities. We all commit such rites in our homes to this day, when, for example, we arrange a wake, or put a glass of vodka and a piece of bread before the image of the deceased. The essence of the in the Temples and Sanctuaries, is the participation in a joint meal with the Deities. The general sense is that Ancestors and Deities are given a part of that, what people eat themselves. If a tribe of savages practiced cannibalism, then their deities were "fed" human flesh. If not, then they wouldn't even have a single thought about human sacrifice! You'd never place insects on the offering table during a wake, and Slavic pagans would never do so either! Modern man, cut off from the rural way of life, does not understand the meaning of the phrase "such a king, on such an occasion, sacrificed 200 bulls!" Modern man thinks that the meaning lies in the fact that an individual deprived 200 innocent cows of life in favor of his deities! Instead, the essence is that this individual had arranged a huge feast dedicated to the deities, and those bulls fed his army and his people. The point was not the deprivation of life or bloodshed (for thousands of cows are deprived of life in slaughter houses each and every day), but in the communal meal, at which in a mysterious way the deities are present. Haven't you ever heard someone say that he will: "slaughter a pig for daughter's birthday" or something similar? You do understand that the meaning of what is said is not that a pig will be specifically slaughtered on the occasion of the birth of daughter, but that on her birthday, the individual will prepare many delicious and nourishing dishes from the pig. When Slavic pagans say they "brought sacrifices" or "brought offerings" to their Ancestors and Deities, it means they had a communal meal with their Ancestors and Deities. To this day there exists a custom in many Slavic homes to place and extra plate on the dinner table for a long passed Ancestor that may stop by for a meal. By the way, the Christian liturgy is performed in the very similar way. The gifts (the body and the flesh of Christ) are first prepared on the altar, and then are brought to the altar, and then are consumed collectively by all in the presence of this meal. It is for this reason that Slavic pagans understand the mystical essence of the liturgy, and called Christians in astonishment and rejection - eaters of their god. From the point of view of Slavic pagans, this custom is not only the top of blasphemy, but also one of moral savagery, for Christians mystically ate not just a man (which in itself is terrible), but also the one who is their god! The modern city dweller is convinced that his great-grandparents, while living a simple life in the village, were dim-witted and primitive people. How is it then, then a seemingly unpretentious folk dances possessed such Spiritual richness, harmony with the environment and the depth unattainable by most? Articles are written quite often now about the traditional Slavic folk dance and culture movement in particular. But I would like to share my personal experience, after analyzing 15 years of work on this subject, based on the materials of the expedition... I found myself on my first expedition to Pskov region in the abandoned

settlements, in distant village, visiting with ancient grandmothers and grandfathers, guardians of the "living" antiquity. And it is here that everything turned upside down in my Soul. I found myself in a completely different world, where everything is different. Where they sing and speak, think and live differently than in the city. Then, I remember, I was quite confused. I could not understand why, having given all of my life to dance and learning it from morning till night, I cannot stand with these grandmothers in a circle and dance as they do. Although all movements are very simple (and in the opinion of my colleagues, even primitive). And then I realized that it is impossible to name all the movements, for they cannot be separated from the dance. And most importantly, a condition in which a person is, while singing and dancing... Initially, dance, as the top of the mental and physical state in any ancient culture, was directed to the Divine, to Nature, and was carrying a ritual meaning. Meaning, an

individual or a group of people were the central link in an unbroken chain between the Heaven and the Earth. Confirmation of this I also find these days, watching, for example, how Kursk "Karagodov", or Pomor "Pillars", or Pskov "Circle" are danced. When the music or a song begins to sound, or just the rhythm, an individual through this rhythm falls into a special state, where he feels the connection with the Heavens, and the "roots", and in general with all those around him (through his Soul). If I speak of "roots", I mean the power that comes from the earth. If I say "heavens", I mean the sacred Rus, which is over the Rusian earth and preserves within itself all the good that has been accumulated by our Ancestors for thousands of years (for many it is mysticism, but for me it is a real feeling). And especially in the ancient songs and dances this connection can be felt. It feels like a kind of cleansing power. So, for example, in Vologda, dancers say "you dance and your hair stands up, and you

feel as if flying". You can call it differently. But we are talking about the very real feelings, very closely related to the power of the Rusian Spirit. However, such a connection does not occur if a person has too many "complexes" and chakras, the "channels" through which the life force flows, are closed. In such case, the individual does not feel anything even remotely similar. Oddly enough, most of the time, such condition is impossible for those who have received any kind of higher education. Some perceive through their mind, and some through their body. And some see the energy in everything, and here the magic is not too far away: for

if the energy is not spiritualized, it will become destructive... The reason is that the perception and self expression should occur through the Soul, because it is the center of an individual. Then, everything becomes harmonious. However, often there are people who ask to be explained this perception - "through the Soul". And, unfortunately, many do not even realize what is going on. They have never even felt the heat of own Soul. Their Soul is closed. This is a clear indicator of how many became removed from Nature, from own Ancestors because of the technological progress. When we dance our Slavic dances or sing our Slavic songs, sometimes an extraordinary force begins to flow through us. Here, we can immediately see: who creates and who destroys. This is especially true in the ancient forms, such as "breaking" or "fight" dancing. I saw "breaking" in the Pskov region. When the grandfathers were already in full swing, it was obvious, how light and power radiated from one of them, and

from the other - a strong aggression. It was frightening to even stand near them. Sensing this, grandmothers began to sing ditties to one of them, so that he would stop as soon as possible, saying this: "Enough! Or someone will become crippled, he is as a deity, and so never believed." Now I will attempt to summarize the above and to formulate the first principle: 1. So an individual could pass through himself that, what comes from our roots and experience this special condition, he needs to be open, meaning, free in every sense: both emotionally and physically, and energetically, mentally, and morally, and most importantly - Spiritually. Here is one example of how our children are "closed up" from childhood and unnatural coordination is instilled in them through various dance clubs, ballet studios and numerous sports clubs. It is time to remember our pseudo-folklore holidays like "dancer", where hundreds of dancers are on stage, and all of them (believe me, I do not want to accuse anyone, I just want to explain) move exactly the same. The displayed emotions, however, are exactly the same. Under the lyrical melody, under the same dance: the same sadness, the same joy. And it is difficult to move away from these stamps and go deep inside yourself, to enjoy the simple notion. It is particularly difficult, with academic training, to obtain pleasure of communicating with another individual that is dancing with you (and life in the village does not exist without dance). And since there is a void in the Soul, that requires different spectacular effects, all kinds of tricks and all sorts of "dynamic" moves, which are, maybe interesting for the eyes, but do not warm the Soul.

Although everyone has to make own choice. 4. After numerous inquiries about the old days, I really wanted to spend the entire year as was previously lived: with all the fasts, temples and celebrations. And, having lived it, I came to the conclusion: "all in due time". And this is another principle ... all in due time, none can play folklore. For example: in Pomor'e, I asked a grandmother to sing the song "Blossomed and Withered the Flowers", and she told me: "Come back in the Autumn, and then I will sing it to yo." Or in Pskov: "Grandmother, sing, please, Maslenka", and she: "You, dear, come during Maslenitsa!" And you begin to understand that for them it is not a game, but life. That is why the celebration of Maslenitsa is held during Maslenitsa-week ... and it is much interesting to be present during such a celebration, than on stage. And if we are talking about folk festivals, they should be added to the category of big calendar celebrations, or fairs, so the Spirit of universal joy would prevail.

The next (seventh) principle flows out of the previous one: a person must be brought up according to tradition. Creativity, not related to traditional culture, depends on the individual. When a talented individual leaves the spotlight, the genre somewhat fades with that individual. Such creativity may be transferred only from talent to talent. But folklore, as opposed to the academic laws, possesses live transmission. It can be transmitted from all to all, from generation to generation. It is in our genes. Most likely, you think, that if a modern light bulb, no matter what kind it is (regular, energy saving ... LED), serves you more than two years, it speaks of its high quality ... it saved you money, etc. I will have to upset you. A light bulb, which lasted a year, two or even five years, is not really that good. Don't believe me? What would you say about a light bulb, which has worked nonstop for 116 years?! In places, which are open 24 hours a day, and a fire station is one of such places, the light is never turned off. The light bulb was lit at the same time, when Henry Ford turned on the world's first production line. The light bulb was not turned off during the first World War, even during the signing of the Versailles Treaty. The second World War began and ended, but the light was still lit. Yuri Gagarin made his flight to outer space, but the firefighters of Livermore enjoyed the game of cards under the same Edison light bulb. Of course, there is no doubt that the light bulb was occasionally off, when the entire fire station found itself with no power. Although, it is doubtful that anyone thought about turning it off intentionally. Especially, since the off switch, made according to old technologies, is located on the bulb itself. So, in order to turn off the light, one would have to climb all the way to the ceiling. The 21st century began. Over the last seven years, the web camera has been changed twice, due to its failure, but the Edison light kept on working. A few words about the device itself. The Edison bulb was produced in the 1890s by the Shelby Electric Company based on the design by Thomas Edison. The bulb is handmade by glassblowers. The filament is eight times thicker, than that of modern bulbs. The bulb is rated at 60 watts, but today, it is burning at approximately one tenth of its power, in order to extend its service life. It is forbidden to cut the power to it, for it is the process of turning a bulb on and off that takes the most toll on it. 7 EYE-OPENING LESSONS I LEARNED FROM BUYING NOTHING NEW FOR 200 DAYS

A few months ago, I went through the worst experience of my life: my father passed away. It was a cancer which took him, and a small part of myself as well. As I reflect on the time proceeding his death, there were so many hard parts. One of the hardest was not being able to mourn in peace. Nope, in our society you can’t just mourn a person’s loss – you need to work. Not just at your job, but on piles of paperwork, people to notify, and arrangements to be made. Finally, when I thought all of the hard work was over, I had to empty out my father’s apartment. Little did I know that this would be the bitterest labor yet. Going through my father’s old things, I felt the loss of my father with each and every item I sorted. And there was a lot of sorting to do. It took weeks to clear out the lifetime of possessions in my single father’s small

apartment. Weeks to sell, donate, recycle, or throw out the boxes and boxes of kitchenware, clothing, furniture, office materials, and so much more. I threw away a normal life of accumulation. A life you and I all go through. Time, money and effort had been heavily invested in getting all of this stuff – only to be disposed of with great difficulty. We are destroying the planet for future generations, all so that we can enjoy a short lifetime full of material possessions that in many cases are hardly used, rarely necessary, and easily forgotten. I decided that I didn’t want this to be my “normal.” I embarked on an experiment lasting 200 days where I would try to buy nothing new. Like many of us making a steady income, I’d never been very disciplined

when it came to my purchases. If I could afford it, and even when I couldn’t, I often just thought “why not?” Could I survive 200 days without paying tribute to the Mall? AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA AAAAAAA

I did. Excluding groceries, medicine, a pair of rock climbing shoes and basic toiletries, I borrowed and bought secondhand, or simply went without. Here is what I learned through this experience. 1. There is already too much stuff in the world. As I toured various thrift stores, online classifieds, Facebook buy/sell groups and the like, I was shocked to see the sheer volume of stuff we humans have already created. Mountains of clothes, tons of furniture, dishes, pans, walking sticks – an ocean of all things imaginable. As all of this stuff is being thrown away, more is being churned out. We don’t need more. 2. People buy things out of pure compulsion. As I looked to fill my needs through preowned sources, I was blown away by the amount of new items in thrift stores. Items that were unused, complete with price tags and original packaging. Everything from new scented candles to new clothing graced the aisles of secondhand stores. This showed me

that the act of buying is often completely disassociated with needing, or even wanting. It just seemed to be like a compulsion that needed to be filled and that was the end of it. 3. There is an unreasonable stigma against pre-owned. As I blogged about my experience, I got a lot of interesting feedback on the hygienic aspect of my efforts. Many felt that buying clothing, furniture, and other goods used instead of new was dirty and uncivilized. What a weird mentality! These same people would happily donate their used goods to thrift stores. I guess it’s good enough for the poor – but not for “us.” 4. There is so much abundance. During my 200 days, I learned that I didn’t need to go to big box stores to buy what I needed – there was plenty in my community. Local thrift stores and classifieds had most of the goods I needed. Our communities have an abundance of stuff and plenty of people willing to give it away at a very low price or for free. 5. When nothing is new, nothing is expensive. My bank account definitely got a break during these 200 days. Secondhand comes at a delightfully steep discount. I never felt that I compromised on quality, either! 37

6. It’s awesome paying a person instead of a corporation. Especially when shopping through classifieds, I found that most sellers were honest and helpful. They were normal people just wanting to recoup a portion of their purchase price by selling perfectly usable items. It was refreshing to know that my money would be going directly to someone just like me, instead of a faceless corporation. 7. I don’t really need most of that stuff. Truth is, some things you simply cannot find preowned. Lots of items, even common ones, are either impossible or impractical to find preowned. When I was forced to not buy them – against my strongest impulses at times – I was surprised how often nothing changed. Not my health, happiness, or inner harmony. I realized that most things are really just “nice-to-haves” – real needs are very limited.

My 200 days was not only an optional experience in sustainable living and minimalism. It was a necessary and transformative journey. When someone dies, you’re expected to “get past it” and go back to normal. I thought that even worse than losing my father would be if I came out of the

experience unchanged. Instead, I allowed the experience to change me deeply. I’ll never “get past it,” because every day my father’s passing inspires my words, my actions, and my views on life. I hope that you might allow this post to change you a bit as well. Maybe you’ll pay a visit to a thrift store for your next clothing purchase, or embark on your own 10, 30, or 200 day challenge. Petersburg sociologists came to shocking conclusions, figuring out what factors in the family and in the environment of the child most affect his academic performance. Experts of PISA (Program for International Student Assessment) and TIMS (Trends in Mathematics and Science Study) argue that "children from families with higher family culture capital demonstrate higher educational results". However, a group of sociologists, led by Olga Sachava, a candidate of philological sciences and an undergraduate of "Education Management" program of the Higher School of Economics in St. Petersburg, contradicted the view that the child's performance depends both on the level of culture and on the family's income, based on initial findings. It turns out that neither the level of culture, nor the comfort of the home, nor the number of books on the shelves, nor the availability of money for the services of tutors, nor even the drunkenness of one of the parents does not directly affect the child's performance.
