Statement of Confidentiality This proposal and supporting materials contain confidential and proprietary business information of DMJStudio. These materials may be printed or photocopied for use in evaluating the proposed project, but are not to be shared with other parties.

Proposal Valid to: 10.31.2019

DMJStudio is a creative studio that develops content and experiences that close the cultural and social gaps that occur between communities and between communities and the organizations that serve them. After 16 years working in non-profits and six years working in communities and neighborhoods, there is a clear gap between organizations that serve communities and the communities themselves. Sometimes organizations believe they know customers needs and wants, but the truth is without frequent interactions and communication, understanding customers and expanding your customer base can be challenging.

DMJStudio creates and uses events, online content, guerrilla marketing campaigns, the arts and more to interact with the community and simultaneously learn what is important to their lives and lifestyles. Data collected from these experiences is used to help those in the communities understand each other and also help organizations that provide services and products structure how they serve, what they provide and how to communicate to current and new customers in a more productive and needed way.

CURRENT DMJSTUDIO PROJECTS

Traveling Exhibit Doors of Opportunity

Door of Opportunity is a traveling exhibition displaying the creativity and opportunities in Detroit for artists. What makes this exhibit unique is the visual art in this exhibition is actual doors transformed into art. Participants range from students to seniors, emerging artists, and seasoned artists – all Metro Detroit residents. This is not a competition or juried show. It is open to all MetroDetroiters who want to create. The goal of this project was several fold: 1.)To allow anyone who desired to create art, 2.) Have that same art placed in neighborhoods where art is lacking, 3.) Connect one neighborhood with others with these similar displays of door art and 4.) Encourage residents of Detroit to go to museums, galleries, libraries, and schools to see their art or art of loved ones displayed professionally.

Beautification Project Pop Up Art Gallery

There were over 150,000 abandoned/vacant lots in Detroit creating dumping grounds for debris and a magnet for danger and violence all over the city. These locations take away the visual appeal of the city, put children in danger and decrease the value of the land and the neighborhoods that these lots reside. This project took abandoned lots, clean them up and then placed art from local artists on the land transforming it into a space used by the neighborhood. Neighbors in collaboration with DMJStudio, choose the lot, help schedule clean up days and also connected with other neighbors to help maintain the lot after its transformation.

2020 Exhibits DMJStudio dives into stories of the world, of people of color and of the city of Detroit and create beautiful art, meaning experiences that everyday people can enjoy and share. Here are a list of the upcoming exhibits for 2020.

Sh*t Hole Countries An exhibition about the beauty and magnificence of Haiti and the countries of Africa. In 2018, it was reported that the President of the United States in frustration about immigration asked why we (United States of America) would want people from shithole countries like those in Africa and Haiti. At the same time, it was reported that he stated that the U.S. should get more people from countries like Norway.

Puritan A documentary and exhibition about places of worship. On Puritan Ave. In Detroit, there are hundreds of places of worship. Let’s walk into as many of these places, meet the people and learn what happens on this street every Sunday (and in some cases Saturday). We will connect with pastors, imams, rabbis about their work as religious leaders. We will ask those that go to services, what brings them to the doors of these places of worship and how what they experience affects their lives and communities.

The exhibition is to expel these thoughts shared by the U.S. President and others and see the beauty of Africa and Haiti through its artists. Posters On Politics 2020 Discussions about politics have become a part of the everyday American conversation, and it affects every person in the world in one way or another. Posters On Politics is an exhibition of posters about political ideologies, figures, events, and thoughts from designers from around the world from 2018 – 2020.
