LU:M met up with the amazing dragqueen Britney Corvette to talk about her, how she came into the business, and what is coming up next! It is not hard to recognize BC - close to two meters tall without heels, BC is probably one of the first people you spot on the streets, in the clubs and of course on the scene. BC came into the business quite recently and took the dragworld and drag lovers by storm. With her fun performances and tall slender look, the audience loved her at first sight, AND at first

8

lipsync. “I’m from a very small town in jutland and the first time I ever did drag, I was looking in the mirror going “Hell yeah this bitch is looking like Britney!” That’s how I found my name. I went to a local club dressed in drag and thought I looked like the most beautiful woman, and I was convinced everyone around me thought the same! But now looking back, and looking at photos, people were probably more scared of me than thinking they just saw a beautiful woman.”

9

The great beginning BC Is known for being a great performer, she is great with lipsync. Her performances is based around funny storytelling, which her fans love her for. “I’m known to be the enternaining “Budget Queen” by people in the industry. I’d love to have crazy dresses and expensive makeup, but right now where I’m at, I still haven’t put much money into drag.”

BC’s first performance was in front of thousands of people at Copenhagen Pride 2019, there weren’t any small step for her. She were asked by one of the Pride show’s creative producers if she would like to do a show. “I were excited and went “yeah sure I can do a 5 minute sketch and a small dance routine”, but I ended up being a big part of the whole show! It was amazing and I got to meet so many amazing and talented people. Even Vivavicious from the 6th season of Rupaul’s Drag Race performed with us! You could feel her pressence backstage and you knew SHE were a queen!”

From start to TV When BC started drag she weren’t the best at applying makeup, but meeting other drag queens in Denmark, she got tips and tricks on what to do and how to do it the smartest way possible. “The queens in Denmark have such a strong bond, we’re like a family and we always help each other out as much as possible. I really love that and I’m sure that If I didn’t have them it would have taken much longer for me to reach this point.”. Last year BC and her team were asked to go to ‘Klovn The Final’ casting. It was a surreal experience for BC, she had never thought about doing TV or movies in her life. “It was funny because we had no idea what would happen and when we got there, we sat with Casper Christensen and Frank Hvam and we had to do improv. At first we were all a bit scared but when we began we had so much fun. We got the part and ended up being a part of the movie! It’s funny because Frank and Casper really ARE like they are in the movies, that was a bit surprising!”

Nothing stops a drag queen It’s not only glam and glitter for a girl like BC. Together with other drag queens she were about to closing a deal with REKOM Group A/S, but then came the corona virus and put a halt for her shows. “I got so frustrated, we were about to close a deal where we would perform very often with the company who owns pretty much all the bars and clubs in denmark. But because of the coronavirus, we lost contact.” Although BC lost her contact with REKOM due to the virus, it didn’t stop her from performing. Together with the other queens they held an online show in support of gay clubs where they usually perform. “We made this fun online show to support our community, where people could place bids 18

when they thought we were entertaining, or just whenever they felt like. We made a lot of money which we were so happy about. I’m proud to say that I’ve achieved that and supported my community.” Hopefully the coronavirus will be over soon so BC can continue doing what she loves. We asked what her plans for the future would be and as of right now she hopes that she can continue the relationship with REKOM for starters. “Right now I work as a manager at a michealin restaurant in Copenhagen but I really hope that I can find jobs again as a dragqueen. I am always ready for the next big thing and things are looking to open up so life as we knew it will soon start anew - I can’t wait!” 19

In preparation for his upcoming performance at UHĂ˜RT Festival, LU:M caught up with the rap genius about his life, his alter ego and his love to fashion styling. With a voice that shifts seamlessly between melodic, blunt and humorous, upcoming artist B: EAZY is making rap to a whole new beat. Hes only been making music for about 6 months here in Denmark.

31

His biggest song out to date is “LONESOME” which has been gaining some serioulsy attention in the period of COVID-19. It’s all about the outcome B: EAZY had his first real musical experience with his uncle Eric Jones. Eric Jones was the man who let him attend a studio session with him and that made B:EAZY fall in love with the process and creativity behind the music. “The outcome of spending so much time on a song is everything.” When my uncle gave me the torch on how to record myself at a very young age. I took that and ran with it. I’m here now; once he taught me how to self-record, I never stopped. Only the strong survive B: EAZY was born and raised in a one small bedroom apartment in Illinois. Growing up poor he was always taught the importance of first impressions. We asked B: EAZY how life was in Illinois. “Living up in my neighborhood in Illinois was a rough time. It’s like it’s kill or be killed and only the strong survive. Growing up in that mentality made me who I am, I’m built for anything”. The avatar B: EAZY lives today in Copenhagen, we asked him why he moved to Copenhagen and how he earned the money to make the opportunity to settle down in Denmark. “I moved to Denmark for 3 years ago, because I got a very interesting job opportunity as a fashion stylist.” When B: EAZY growed up in Illinois It wasn’t only the music that had his interest also fashion and styling was in his sightline. Fashion styling has been in his interesting his whole life. “I always thought that it’ll be what I’ll be pursuing as passion if the music failed, honestly.”

32

33

The shift It was his meeting with some of the biggest rappers and musicians in Denmark, that let B: EAZY go all in on his passion as artist. “My job as a fashion stylist let me into some dope artists in the music industri, and I couldn’t stop thinking about the opportunity to release some of my own music here in Denmark.” As B: EAZY says, he really wanna pursue the music. “I want to change the world, I hope to have concerts one day where we can just rock out and vibe.” B: EAZY says his music isn’t purposely political. “It’s not really important to me,” he shrugs, “I’m not a politician, but I’ll say what’s on my mind.”

”LOREM IPSUM DOLOR SIT AMET, CONSECTETUR ADIPISCING ELIT, SED DO EIUSMOD TEMPOR INCIDIDUNT UT LABORE ET DOLORE MAGNA ALIQUA.” BRIAN KEITH

We asked B:EAZY what an alter ego means for him as artist. “An Alter ego for me as B:EAZY is a beneficial concept for an artist like me to experiment with. Such as adding a spotlight to what I can do musically while shedding light on the mentality and creative image I can paint for myself.” What are your plans for 2020? “My plans for 2020 is too go even harder with my music and obtain a pure fan base where the love is genuine and diverse music will be made from a mix of rap and alternate music.”

Yet the melancholy is present in all of her self written lyrics, and this makes her a three-dimensional and relevant artist. LU:M met Grow Digga to a talk about breaking free of other peoples expectations, the recurring feeling of rootlessness and what an alter ego means to her as an artist.

GROW DIGGA

Gro Pechuele with the artist name Grow Digga is a Danish musician and artist. She grew up in Mozambique and this shines through her versatile sound, which is far from nordic. With a big bitch attitude she throws the Law of Jante in the graveyard.

47

From Classical to trap “My interest in music started from a very young age. I actually played the Clarinet in Roskilde Symphony Orchestra! “ Grow Digga laughs. “As it started to get more serious, there were also more rules. Rules is not my thing. Eventually I got bored and stopped.” When Gro was 12, her family moved to Mozambique, East Africa, where they lived for five years. “I loved it. It was just KAPOOW! Of course it was a bit tough at first, but my parents have always moved a lot. I was used to adapt. I started to become a part of the underground rap-environment, and a lot of my soundscape can still be traced back to that time.“ “There is something about the attitude In East Africa, you can hardly be too much. The styling, the way you talk and the environment you hang out in. Everything is more defined, there is no noubt whether you are a soft reggaeton or a trap rapper.“

Gliding, floating, swimming. Grow Digga loved the accept of attitude and edge, but being religously assigned to one stereotype turned her off. “I’ve played reggae, I’ve played melodic pop, I’ve played punk. I’ve litetrally been trough all fucking genres” She pauses.“There are so many codes and rules everywhere. Even rules about having no rules. I get so tired of peoples need of putting each other into boxes. Why does everything need to be labelled? Later she has come to realize that her way of shuffling through different environments throughout her early youth, says a lot about her as a person. “I think I was seeking a sense of home. I’ve always had that rootlessness. I have Romanian roots and sometimes I actually feel like a nomad.” I have always been kind of restless with an eager to move, you know? “At the same time, I really crave to find a place where i feel like i belong. A place where I could stay for the rest of my life.” After being signed to both a Swedish and a South African record label, Grow Digga has had enough. “They all tried to force me in to something I could not relate to.” Together with her cousin Semihot, she started her own record label and named it; Not Enough Of Nothing.“I want to do it all myself!

54

The only business-partner i rely on, is my cousin. He totally gets my vibe, and is also one of my best friends. He is mixing and mastering, and has helped me produce my music videos. The lyrics, the visual universe and everything else, I make myself. “ Grow Digga describes her genre as wavy, hip-hop, and trap, and uses the words, gliding, floating, swimming. It is important to her that her universe come across as three-dimensional. She care as much about the lyrics and the visuals as she cares about her sound. When she sent an application to the Fyns Academy of Fine Arts, she applied with a text which wasn’t a text but a painting. Grow Digga explains “Who says you should be able to read a text? Probably many. But that’s the cool thing about the art academy. You can use formats the way you like, and do the unexpectable. One of the other pieces Grow Digga applied with, was a freestyle text called “Aldrig din wifey” She has been preoccupied with feminism and what men and women expect from each other’s gender. “Do not get me wrong. I love playing a feminine role, but I also love to play a masculine role. I love playing with my expressions in general. I am an instrument myself, and I play on all my strings… yep.”

Do you see Grow Digga as an alter ego, or is it you all the way? “That’s a good question, actually. I think it is quiet difficult to say where Gro starts and Grow Digga ends. As Grow Digga I am myself, but more intense. I think what an alter ego does, is giving you the courage to be you in an extended version.” I like to go against what people expect of me. I do not like anyone to put a label on me. Also i like to provoke and search limits within my field of art. For example, autotune has not been popular for a long time, especially in Denmark. But I love autotune, and currently use it in pretty much everything. Even my cousin thinks it’s a bit too much!” She laughs. “But you know, I dont give a fuck!”
