Sled into Winter! By Alex Noel and staff

s temperatures drop, and snow starts to fall, it can be hard to find fun things to do without the warm weather and nice days that are great for outdoor activities. Winter can seem like a boring time of the year because people would much rather be inside a warm house rather than out in the chilly weather. But winter offers some great and funfilled activities for everyone to enjoy. This includes sledding, building a snow fort or a snow man, going ice skating, and many more fun activities to make a cold winter day, fun! There are many great places to visit while its cold. The Waveland golf-course is a fantastic place to go sledding because it has a lot of steep hills that are ideal for a great time sledding. Being at home is also a great place to have fun. People can build a snow man or a big snow fort in their yard which will be entertaining for hours on end. The Brenton skating plaza in downtown Des Moines is a great place for anyone who wants to ice-skate which is also an extremely fun winter activity.

Hank Wasson, a junior at Waukee says, “My favorite activity to do in the winter is build a giant snow fort with my friends. I really recommend people to grab a friend or two and try to build a snow fort because it is such a fun thing to do when it’s cold and there is a lot of snow outside.” William Richards, a junior at Roosevelt says, “My favorite thing to do when it is snowing is go sledding at the Waveland golf-course. I love to go down those steep hills and make ramps at the bottom to go off on my sled. It is a lot of fun and I really urge people to take advantage of the snow to really spice up their day.” Sophia Wagler, a sophomore at Roosevelt says, “Ice-Skating is my favorite activity to do in winter. I love to go to the ice-skating rink downtown with my friends and skate for a long time. Some people don’t like to ice-skate because it is hard for them but I recommend that people should go because once you get the hang of ice-skating, its hard to leave the rink.”

After placing the final brick of snow completing the snow fort, Hank Wasson sits in his creation after hours of building it. “Building snow forts is the only thing I look forward to in the winter,” he says.

After falling off her sled because of a ramp made out of snow, Sophia Wagler says, “Sledding is all fun and games until you hit a ramp you didn’t see before.”

The Earliest Hours of January 11th, 2021 Mourning the loss of our Roosevelt Freshman, Zacharia Warsame By Lily Anderson and staff

T

he community lost 3 beautiful young boys the night of January 11th. After hearing the news, you may feel surprised, shocked, sad, you may not believe it. The truth is that we lost another member of our Roughrider family. This article will cover who was involved, what was happening, where this took place and why this happened. It will also inform readers on where to go if they need support throughout this rough time and who to call. According to a report done by Sarah Kay LeBlanc and Andrea May Sahouri for The Des Moines Register on January 13th, this is the events that lead up to the accident. “Clive police reported that around 1:50 a.m., Urbandale police got a tip about a person rummaging through a car in the 3700 block of Patricia Drive. When the

caller went outside, they saw a car leaving the area and reported the license plate number to police. The car had been reported stolen Jan. 7. Urbandale and Clive officers located the car heading eastbound on Douglas Avenue at 86th Street and attempted a traffic stop, but the car fled, reaching speeds exceeding 100 mph. Clive Police Chief Michael Venema said two law enforcement vehicle pursued the car because it was stolen, and there was little traffic in the area at the time. The pursuit lasted 1 minute, 12 seconds until the driver lost control while crossing railroad tracks at the intersection of 86th Street and Swanson Boulevard and crashed around 2 a.m.” In other reports it states that three of the five boys were ejected from the vehicle and died on the scene. We later found out the names of the five boys. Emmanuel and Majok Nyariel and Zacharia Warsame

were the three boys who lost their lives in the crash. Warsame, 14, who most of you knew, attended Roosevelt High School. Majok attended Callanan middle school and was just 14 years old. Emmanuel was 16 and attended Hoover High School. The other two boys are currently being hospitalized with life threatening injuries. Their names are Hamid Lula, 15, and Mohamed Elzubeir, 13. Lula attends Roosevelt high school and Elzubeir attends Callanan Middle School. Roosevelts principal, Mr. Kevin Biggs, stated “Whenever we lose someone to a sudden death, the emotions that circulate through our minds and bodies can be debilitating. It’s hard to concentrate, hard to breath, especially when the person who passed may have sat next to us in class or passed us in the hall on their way to US History. Death is inevitable,

but to be lost at such a young age makes it that much more painful. For the five young men who were involved in last week’s horrific vehicle crash, three of them losing their life, their family’s lives will forever be changed by that single event. Let’s think of them and wish them comfort during this time of pain. Let’s continue to live our best lives, invest in our education, and care for all people...as if tomorrow were our last day on earth. Don’t allow the fear of dying keep you from beginning to truly live your best life. Have no regrets and treat others the way you would want to be treated. For those of us who know and loved Zacharia Warsame, may you be comforted as well and feel blessed that you had an opportunity to know this enthusiastic young man. He will be lost, but never forgotten. And we wish Hamid Lula a fast and speedy recovery from his injuries - we will be wait-

ing for you at Roosevelt with open arms of support and love. That’s the Rider Way.” You may not know how to feel after hearing this heartbreaking news. In an email that Des Moines Public Schools sent out, it stated “District grief counselors are working with our schools to provide support and assistance to students and staff this week. If they can assist you virtually or in person, please call Roosevelt’s main office number (515) 2427272.” You are not alone in this battle; many others are feeling lost and numb. “Grief is something that comes in waves. One minute it feels like everything is going to be ok again, then the next minute we’re overcome with sadness, hopelessness, and anxiety. Over time this seems to fade, and we feel more like ourselves again. Being patient and allowing ourselves to experience this range of emo-

tion can help with healing. Zach’s passing has impacted all of us differently, so I think we need now is to lift each other up, support each other, love each other, and give each other grace as we go through the grieving process.” Adam Daley, Social Studies Teacher and Head Boys Basketball Coach. Throughout this grieving process Roosevelt is doing their best to make it easy for anyone who needs help to get it. The counselor’s offices are located in the student support center, near the main office of the building. Most, if not all of the teachers at Roosevelt are going through the grieving process as well. No one is alone in this battle. It is a heartbreaking tragedy that happened to these boys and they won’t ever be forgotten.

Tobelieve or not to I

t’s 11:15 pm in Las Vegas, Nevada September 7th, 1996. In the car, legend rap artist Tupac Shakur and president of Death Row Records, Suge Knight are cruising the strip. Fellow drivers at a stoplight and all the sudden they hear rapid gun shots fire, “POP- POP- POP!” Shakur has been shot multiple times, two in the chest, one in the arm, and one in the thigh. Lights go out for Shakur and millions of his fans are left to mourn for their beloved “California Love” hero and legend, or do they? Tupac who was one of the most talented and influential rappers of all time; had many platinum records and millions of fans. The drive-by shooting was heard around the world. Tupac grew up in Manhattan and later he moved to Maryland where he attended high school and took poetry, jazz, and ballet classes. He loved the arts and wanted to perform. His mother, Afeni Shakur, “I wanted him to have the name of revolutionary, I wanted him to know he was apart of a world culture and not just from a neighborhood.” The name Tupac is of Incan origin Shakur was named after Tupac Amaru II, an Incan revolutionary. Shakur was most definitely a revolutionary musician. Tupac wrote and sang about his truth, struggles he lived through and witnessed, for example, domestic violence, gang violence, and police brutality.

believe By Adrien Hanson and staff

Legend Tupac Sahkur is still alive, the conspiracy theroy. Emmanuel Raske, a junior at Iowa State University and former Theodore Roosevelt High School grad, states, “If you really listen to his lyrics, much of what he says is still true and happening in today’s world”. Fans looked up to Shakur for his honesty and his truth through his music. Have you ever heard of someone faking their own death to escape their reality? Many people believe that Tupac did just that, faked his own death, he wanted out. He wanted out of the fame, the contracts, the constant pressure to live up to fans’ hype, and Suge Knights’ dangerous ways of living and doing business. Tupac was signed with Death Row Records, owned by Knight. Tupac was signed to a contract that he did not want to follow or abide by; this caused tension with owner Knight.

For those who believe Shakur faked his own death, they believe he did so because he wanted out of the spotlight, out of the life he was living. This kid from New York City who studied acting and poetry, turned world famous rapper, had become a part of the world of violence, shootings, drugs, and money. The fame really changed Shakur, and not for the better, which leads fans to believe that he used the shooting as a way out, however, believing he is still alive, living without fame, just the way he wanted it. Lexi Dean, a freshman at the University of Arizona states, “I truly believe Tupac wanted out. He did not want to be under Suge Knight anymore, and he did not want to be in the spotlight”.

Shakur was a golden ticket for Knight and the Death Row label. Knight needed and demanded to control Shakur’s music, and the money that comes with selling millions of records. Shakur wanted out, to be on his own, to have creative freedom over his music and out from under the violent management of Knight. Knight wanted Tupac’s blood after Tupac threatened to leave Death Row and not fulfill his contract.

Picture on the right was a selfie taken in 2015 by who is believed to be Tupac.

The Theories... There have been sightings of Shakur in Cuba. He has an aunt who lives in Havana where many believe she is helping him stay under the radar. Tupac needed a place to go once he was presumed dead and having a family in another country gave him a perfect opportunity for a place to escape.

Fans speculate that the night of the shooting Shakur tells girlfriend and his bodyguard to ride in the car behind them, which seems a little weird. It had been known to many that Shakur and his girlfriend never rode separately. In hindsight, if he knew he was going to be shot and didn’t want his girlfriend to be hit, it makes sense that he told her to drive separately.

Also convincing to the conspiracy theorists, Kasinova The Don released the song “Mystery” in 2012 where one phrase in the song is: “Its been sixteen years still stuck in a dark cage living in my mind that fateful day 9-7-96 I remember like it was yesterday I got a lot to say how the media said that I died but I’m still breathing who do you believe in?”

Six weeks after the shooting, Knight released Shakur’s latest album, “Makaveli” which was the last name, although with a different spelling, of an Italian politician who faked his own death. This reference makes fans believe that Shakur had the same plan. Reid Osborn, an IT consultant at a hospital in Saint Joe, Missouri says, “The album name is just too convenient. I believe Tupac knew it was going to happen and that he was going to use this to fake his own death and escape.” The Makaveli album also had a hidden message within its title, “AM ALIVE K”. The K is not just short for OK, but a nickname for the rapper Kasinova The Don, who people believe is a new alias for Shakur. The vocal similarities between the two are indisputable. Kasinova The Don has also collaborated with Hussein Fatal and Young, who were both members of Tupac’s rap crew, The Outlawz.

Some even believe that Suge Knight was in on Shakur’s disappearance. The theory is Shakur explained to Knight that with him “dead” Knight would make more money. People are worth more dead than alive. Knight would keep all the money once Shakur was out of the picture, so Shakur offered up the deal if Knight would help him escape. Raske states, “Suge was definitely in on it, all he cared about was his money and knew he would make way more money once the world knew Tupac was gone”

What Is Happening To The Library By Zarai Hernandez and staff

A

bout how many times have you been in the library since you have been in Roosevelt? Probably not very many times. The library is mostly used when teachers teach their class in there other than that it is more of a place to hang out. Wouldn’t it be better if they remodeled it to be more comfortable and fun for students and staff? Well, that is what they are planning to do with the library in a few years. “Due to the age and the current lack of student-interest in our library space, we thought it would be beneficial to renovate and create a wonderfully relevant space where students could engage in 21st Century skills, socialize, perform and ultimately have a space that is contemporary for their use.” stated principal Kevin Biggs.

Not very many students go in the library to read a book or to check one out it is more of a hangout place during release blocks. For that reason, the library is going to be remodeled to a place which will be more useful to all the students and staff. “Libraries in their current form, are becoming outdated. This is a great way for us to provide our students and staff and space where design, function and space come together to create a gathering spot for all” stated Mr. Biggs. Roosevelt's librarian Heidy Savage also thinks “it is a great idea. It is a great space and could be used better than it currently is”.

Did you know facts about libraries

Right now, the library only has a small space of computers, the rest is books and places to sit. The idea they have right now is to renovate the library into a space where students will be comfortable and fun. “We want this to be a learning space that is relevant and fun for our students. Gaming areas, charging stations, project-based learning space, technology options, etc…all ideas are on the table” stated Mr. Biggs. It will be a space where students will be able to do research, study, game with friends, watch tv or even perform a poem, talk about anti-racism, politics, LGTBQ issues, etc. It would be available to students throughout the school day until 7pm or 8 pm and may offer programs for students.

“I think if what has been proposed goes through it will greatly benefit the students and staff at Roosevelt and the community!” stated Ms. Savage. Although it is all still in beginning process of planning and won’t be done until a few years it seems like a good idea for the school. Mr. Biggs stated that “our ALUMNI Foundation is going to help us fundraise, design, and construct this new venue. With the help of student and staff voice, we’re sure to create something spectacular”.

“Students learn best when they are engaged, excited, inspired, and feel comfortable…that’s what we’re trying to build.” - Kevin Biggs

Attendance Problems By Jack Harrington and Staff This hallway usually filled with people, even during class is completely empty. The amount of students not here is crazy.

W

ith Coronacation being over and the Roosevelt students being in online school, good attendance is more difficult to obtain than it seems like it should be. All the students have been doing school from their couches, beds or desks from home. With that happening and students having to rely on memory or an alarm to tell them when to get to class, it can get a little dicey. People missing their first class of the day because their alarm didn’t go off, or missing a class because the internet isn’t working in their house, or the computer wasn’t charged correctly, and many other odd ways for a computer not to work. There are a lot of things that happen that are out of students power of why they are missing class, yet they are still getting penalized for it, and being punished for it by some teachers making it very difficult to get over one class because the district decided to try to do a semesters worth of work in 9 weeks. Javell Johnson, Sophomore, Said, “It was easier at the start of the year, but now it’s harder.” That does seem true, because it might just be getting old for some people. And then there is of course the possibility of sleeping through a class. Sophomore Lucy Auge said, “Yes, I sleep through classes all the time and it’s harder to make classes on time.” It is incredibly easy to sleep through classes this year it seems like.

Mr. Schwendinger an English teacher at Roosevelt said “There have been a few days when more students have missed class than attended, however, my average daily attendance is about 1% lower than it was last year in the physical building.” While talking about attendance he also said, “While some barriers to attending virtually are removed such as getting up early enough, getting a ride, walking in the cold, etc, virtual learning adds such barriers as technology issues, students being asked to care for family members during the day, students being expected to work additional hours to supplement family income, increased issues with mental illness due to a lack of physical interaction, or trying to learn in a loud distracting environment to name a few.” Schwendinger was making good points that there are many reasons that it can be difficult to make it to class in normal years like it is this year. It was also interesting how he said his attendance percentage wasn’t overly different compared to most years. In the end, attendance in the students mind has been difficult to obtain, and maybe some teachers understand that this year could be a little hard. And the amount of reasons to miss seem to be building up weather it’s accidently sleeping through a class, or internet problems, along with so many others. This has been a weird, hard year and a students attendance has definitely been hurt due to that at times.

“Yes, I sleep through classes all the time.” -Lucy Auge

Stress management T

here are many healthy ways to deal with stress. There are also many unhealthy ways to cope with stress, for example, stress eating, or distancing themselves from everyone. There are many reasons why someone could be stressed, whether it has to do with school, work, or just their personal life. In an interview with Osman Bashir, age 18, he was asked what the biggest stressor in his life right now is and his response was “school, because I am afraid to fail”. School can be one of the biggest stressors in a teenager’s life. Especially a teenager who is just starting college, failing is one of their biggest worries. Yes, being stressed can make you feel like there is nothing you can do or even just make you want to give up all together. But there are many healthy ways you can cope with that stress and try to deal with it so you feel better. The way someone deals with stress all depends on the person and what they like to do. Some like to listen to music; others like to work out or just relax. In an interview with Loula Hassan, age 18, she was asked what she does when she’s feeling stressed and her response was “I like to take warm baths with lavender scent to help me calm my mind”. The Battle of the Next Gen Consoles BY Connor Smith, Staff Xbox released its newest console, the Xbox Series X on No-

vember 10th, 2020, but many people were looking at the release date of their biggest competitor, PlayStation. The PS5 was released on November 12th, 2020, is that a coincidence? Not likely. What is likely is that these two companies were participating in an age-old tradition of both releasing their newest consoles around the same time right before the holiday season and determining who could sell more consoles on launch. Verdict: PlayStation not only broke its own previous console’s sales records, it broke the U.S. sales record for both unit number sales and dollar amount, a title that was previously held by the PS4. The Xbox Series X sold only 1.1 million to 1.4 million units worldwide in its first two days of launch while the PS5 nearly doubled that, rolling in at around 2.1 million to 2.5 million units. The people have spoken, and they clearly chose the PlayStation. Asher Lewis is a 17-year-old junior at Roosevelt who owns a PS4. When asked which next generation console he would like to get, he responded “I will eventually get the PS5”. When asked why, he stated “I’d probably get the PS5 to play the newest games with the best graphics available for any console games”. Finally, when asked which console he though would do better, he said that the PS5 would. “I’d say PlayStation did the better job at promoting their new console because I heard a lot more about it and I never really heard about the new Xbox. PlayStation games also seem to create a lot more hype in the gaming community”. Asher was correct in his prediction, and his sentiments matched those of the majority of console buyers, who bought the PS5. Seth Wright is a 15-year-old freshman at Ankeny Centennial who owns an Xbox Series X. When asked why he bought his current console, he said “I like how it works and functions”. He was also asked which console had better games, he responded “The games are basically the same”. He did have an opinion on which controller was better. “The Xbox because it has the

letters instead of shape buttons”. However, his attitude towards the controllers do not match surveys conducted, which show that nearly 75 percent of console gamers preferred the PS4 controller over the Xbox Series S controller. Sentiments that are sure to remain the same with the newer consoles, seeing as neither of the controllers changed drastically. Landon Scott is a 9-year-old fourth grader that attends Perkins Elementary school. He owns both a PS4 and an Xbox. He said that he bought his consoles to play with his friends because they all had one. “I like the games they let me play, and they let me play with my friends online during a pandemic where we can’t get together”. Landon is not alone when he says that video games connect him with his friends. With millions of people locked down around the world, it would be hard to find things to do inside for several weeks, let alone months, which is where video games have come in as a source of communication and entertainment, especially for the younger children like Landon. Many people looking to buy consoles right now are disappointed by the fact that many PlayStations and Xbox are out of stock. This is due to the fact these companies could not predict how many people were going to buy their consoles. They could prepare for things like Black Friday and Christmas, but never could they imagine a pandemic that would keep people on the edge of their seats, waiting for their console. This high demand has led the Sony CEO to tweet out “We want to thank gamers everywhere for making the PS5 launch our biggest console launch ever. Demand for PS5 is unprecedented, so we wanted to confirm that more PS5 inventory will be coming to retailers before the end of the year - please stay in touch with your local retailers.” The PS5 is going for $499 & $399, depending on which version of the console is bought, and the Xbox Series X is going for $499. People can either join the ranks of the Xbox Series X owners, or the ever-growing margin of victory that PS5 owners boast. Make a choice.

Students

experience with Virtual learning

Levich was asked if he thought online learning is more difficult and why. “Personally, online is not harder for me because even though I am a little less productive and it may be harder to stay focused, I have more time outside of class time to complete my work, so I am allowed to take breaks when needed. I believe both online and in person learning both have their positives and negatives.” Levich was asked if he finds himself putting in less effort during online school. “I still try my hardest because my grades have the same effect on my life after high school online as it does in person.” Levich said.

t is March 15, 2020 and it is your last day at school before spring break. You are excited to go on your first family trip in a long time. There is this virus that is spreading worldwide and is all over the news. The virus starts to get bad over the next few days and your family cancels the trip. The government demands that everyone needs to stay inside in attempt to mitigate the spread. After the break, the school system decides we are not going to go back to schools anytime soon and we are forced Virtual school can be extremely tough for teachto finish the school year virtually. I also cannot track them down in school through other teachers to talk to them about their grades etc. If they do not answer me on Teams, email, or phone, I’m stuck.” Mertz said. Other schools around the world have put in a hybrid version of learning, which means the students that attend the school will go to school and learn in person for only half of the week and the other half of the week will be virtual class sessions. Brady Palmer a freshman at Dowling High School is involved in a school system that uses this version of learning. Palmer also enjoys in school learning because while he learns from home, he often gets off task. It is also difficult for students to stay off their phones because there is no teacher available to tell kids to stay on task and complete the given work. “I perform better during in person class because I can ask for help right when I need it. I tend to do better on assignments while I am learning in person.” Palmer said. Palmer was asked if he had seen any changes in his grades in the past month. “My grades have remained the same for the most part, but it does require a little bit more work, time, and effort to keep them where I want them. I also think being able to go to school half the time is a big contributor to the fact that my grades haven’t dropped.” Palmer said. Many schools have noticed major drop offs in grades due to virtual learning. We, as students, are put in a hard position academically because many different families suffer from many different problems, and online learning is just another issue people are forced to deal with. It makes life challenging, but it will come to an end eventually.

Many teachers from different schools are assigned to online teaching. A student that chose to learn online rather than in person may have a teacher that is not originally from the student’s home school.

The Super Bowl I

By Mays Perlowsk and Staff

ts nearing the 2020-2021 Super Bowl and football fans around the world are hoping to see their team finish first. In the first week of the playoffs the Buffalo Bills had a close game with the Indianapolis colts, Final score being 27-24. The Baltimore Ravens, and the Cleveland Browns won their games against the Titans and the Stealers. For the NFC, the Tampa Bay Buccaneers beat the Washington football team, 31-23. While the Rams and the Saints won their first playoff games both winning by over 10 points. In the games to follow the Ravens and Bills will play the same day as Rams and Packers. The Browns and the Chiefs will play due to the Chiefs buy in the first round. And the final game that will take place on Sunday January 17 is the Buccaneers against the Saints. The Packers Rams game is going to be one of the most exciting games because the Packers have the best offence in the NFL and the Rams have the best defense in the NFL so it will be a close game. “I predict the Packers will win against the Rams because the Packers have the number one scoring offence in the NFL and will be extremely hard for the Rams defense to stop.” Evan Smithson a freshman at Roosevelt High School said. Smithson was asked about who he would want to see in the Super Bowl. “I would like to see the Packers play the Chiefs in the Super Bowl, because I think it would be a very close game due to both teams having great offences and players.” Smithson said.

This is an image from google that shows all of the teams competing in this years playoffs in the background. In the front there is this years Super Bowl logo.

“It was surprising to see the Browns Beat the Steelers in the Wild Card.” Smithson said.

Smithson’s good friend and soon to be stepbrother Nick Whatley is a Chiefs fan and would like to see the Packers play the Chiefs in the Super Bowl and there is a good chance of that happening. “I have a good feeling the Chiefs are going to beat the Browns by a lot. The Chiefs have a much better team in my opinion and football fans were surprised to even see the Browns beat the Steelers to get through the Wild Card.” Whatley said. The Kansas City Chiefs are the number one seed in the AFC Due to there record of 14-2. Many football fans believe the Chiefs are going to be in the Super Bowl because they have the best record. If the Chiefs do end up winning, they either play the Bills or the Ravens depending on who wins that game. Earlier in the season the chiefs beat both the Bills and the Ravens, so they have a good chance to play in the Super Bowl. The Super Bowl is a very looked forward to event and will be very exciting for all sports fans to watch. This year has been a very troubling year for many people and the Super Bowl can be an important distraction for people to have.

In the upcoming championship round four teams will compete to see who will play in the Super Bowl. The teams competing are the Chiefs vs. the Bills and the Buccaneers vs. the Packers.

hile in quarantine, we have all had lots of time to discover new shows on Netflix. Here’s some recommendation to watch on Netflix. “I am currently watching “Last Chance U”, it is about college students playing Juco Football to try to get into D1 scholarships. I usually like to eat popcorn, and chips like tortilla chips” said Marco Daines, Senior, at Roosevelt High. Daines also said his favorite shows are “Outer Banks”, and “ALL AMERICAN”. Daines recommend “Criminal Minds” and “On My Block” as Dains said it is really good and entertaining. “I watch a lot of TV shows, I watch “Narco”, and “Naruto” like the movies version, and comedies like Kevin Heart type”. Sal Findley, Junior 16, Roosevelt High. Findley’s favorite show is “Narcos”. It’s about true-life story of the growth and spread of cocaine drug cartels across the globe and attendant efforts of laws enforcement to meet them head on in Brutal. “I don’t eat when I’m watching my shows, but sometimes I eat chips like TAKIS and Skittles.” said Find-

ley. Findley recommend watching “Naruto”, “Naruto” is about Japanese manga series written and illustrated by Masashi Kishimoto. It tells the story of Naruto Uzimaki. a young ninja who seeks recognition from his peers and dreams of becoming a Hokage, the leader of his village. “I watch “You” and “American Horror Story” and “Orange is the Bew Black” . Said Nicole Nino 19. “You” is about Joe, a bookstore manager, as he pursues a graduate-school student, Guinevere Beck, who he meets at the store. Joe’s behavior become obsessive and dangerous. Nino’s favorite show is “Black Mirror” because it’s really cool and it’s about a British dystopian science fiction anthology television series created by Charlie Brooker. “I usually don’t eat. but when I do I usually watch show while I’m eating” said Nino. Nino recommend watching “Elite” as well because it dosen’t get boring and it has a lot of plot twists. What will you binge next?

Save the Date Date Ideas By Ethan Udrovich

A beautiful picture of the Santa Monica Pier at night.

Are you questioning on taking your “friend” to a nice place? Are you in need of some assistance? Then maybe you should take some time out of your day to read this article. In this article we’re going to be talking about dating and date ideas to take your lucky “friend” on. This article would be important for someone who is struggling on looking for a creative place to take the chosen one, or to maybe learn a thing or two about dating. Has there ever been a time where you wanted to take someone to a crazy date spot? If so, where would it be? “A crazy date spot would probably be a haunted house, that would be pretty wild,” said by Aracin Leuang Van, a senior at Theodore Roosevelt High School.

This indeed would be a crazy spot to take a date. Not only would it give you two the screams and the chills, but it would also be a great way to bond together. This would be good for a first, group, double, triple date because everyone loves a good old scream and run for your life moment.

“A date to me could be anywhere that I enjoy, just as long as we are conversing.” -Aracin Leuang Van There are multiple areas and places to take someone on a date. Anything could be classified as a date. For instance, some fun ideas would be; catching a sunset, go-karting, dance lessons, bowling, yoga,

If feeling daring, above is a man bungee jumping. That could be you and your date.

board games, amusement parks, camping, power out date night, and thousands of other ideas. If feeling a bit daring, try sky diving, bungee jumping, or ziplining. Obviously with this pandemic going on, we are all limited on what and where we go. Of course, this doesn’t stop everyone from doing what they do but you can always have a date virtually. However, the question is would you consider any type of video chat with certain context behind the chat, a date? “At its core, a date is just two people sharing time and talking to each other and conversing. If you both decided to have dinner but like over voice chat and talk and have

a good time and both are enjoying yourself, then you can call it a date,” said by Elijah Walters, a good friend of mine. Yes, you heard it here guys and gals. If the two of you are having a blast and conversing through a call or video chat, and maybe make some specific dinner for the call, then yes, it would be a great safe date idea.

try not to go all out to the point you have $0 in your savings. “Personally, I wouldn’t spend a whole lot on a first date, but if we keep going on them then I would probably spend a bit more every time,” said by Mason Nobles, a Sophomore at Theodore Roosevelt High School.

Hopefully this helped a bit for some Now, let’s talk money. Let’s say, by date ideas either during or after this now you have an idea of what you pandemic. If during this pandemic, want to do for a date. You can either then make sure you are staying safe, spend all your money on your date healthy, making the right choices or keep a budget. Keeping a budget and aware of your surroundings is always better and more ideal, but when on that date. it’s understandable on why people would want to spoil their date. Just

RESOLUTIONS By Asher Larson and staff

T

he new year is coming up faster than you think! Something that comes with switching to a new year is the obligation to make a resolution. Why do we do it? According to Thetimestribune. com only 8% of resolutions are kept! What is the point of making a resolution if most of the goals that are made will be abandoned? What is the point of the extra stress? New year’s resolutions are used to reflect on the past year and improve upon ourselves. Even though most resolutions are abandoned, it is still a healthy practice to reflect on our personalities and improve ourselves where we need to. Some people use new years resolutions to start a new diet or a new workout routine. So even if you do abandon your resolution, at least you know what you need to do and usually recognizing what needs to be done leads to fixing your problem. But how much do new year’s resolutions actually affect people long term, Julian Abraham, a local runner and neighbor. Said “Personally I use resolutions to keep myself going, when I feel like giving up or slowing down, I try to remember how I said I was going to improve, and how it would feel when I did”. Use resolutions to give you a reason to continue being the best person

you can be, rather than latching on to your exact plan. Resolutions are a way keep yourself motivated or to help you do things that you would not do otherwise, like eating new food or a different diet, or even something as simple as taking more walks or spending more time with family. Resolutions can also affect your work! Nurse Claire Powell how resolutions have affected her work and or the way she lived, she stated “I like to use resolutions as a way to set a goal, rather than a way to start something new. Sometimes you need to start slow and build up to your end goal”. Resolutions are about bettering yourself. Finding parts of your own personality that might need to change, maybe because they aren’t healthy, or maybe its just that you don’t like the way you are doing something. A lot of people take resolutions way to seriously. As if you don’t do what you said you were going to do you would be punished in some way. But it is important to remember that humans aren’t perfect, that is why we have resolutions. So, if you slip up this year. Don’t dread on about your mistake. Just try again tomorrow.

Don’t have a resolution? Try these suggestions: 1. Stop doom scrolling on Twitter. 2. Live my best life and only buy pants with no buttons or zippers. 3. Cultivate the confidence of Kanye West without the tone-deafness of Kanye West. 4. Go vegan for six months and inevitably give up. 5. Sign up for a marathon that I bravely will not actually run. 6. Unfollow all the Kardashians but kontinue to keep up. 7. Buy all leftover 2020 calendars and burn them. 8. Stop lying to myself about following New Year’s resolutions. 9. Make a viral reel making fun of TikTok. 10. Tattoo “New Year, New Me (JK)” on my arm. (Don’t reallythats just embarrassing).
