Dear DMS Members, Last edition I spoke of reducing costs by outsourcing services that would include the technology of choice of the service provider rather than end-user since their human resources would be using the equipment to deliver optimal efficiency and cost reductions. I would hazard a guess that the service provider would introduce state-of-theart technologies to help reduce their costs since much of their return business would rely on being able to offer best-in-class performance coupled with lowest costs to ensure competitive bids going forward. Since remote diagnostics is a great way to provide cost efficient and, when combined with big data analytics, better decision-making and better products due to more efficient actual application behaviour feedback to OEMs, Cloud technology and Cybersecurity come to the forefront. Many end-users in this region are worried about the security of their networks if linked to the Cloud. Rightly or wrongly, the fact remains that big data analytics will require Cloud computing as the most efficient way of analysing data from similar applications from all over the world to make better, more informed decisions with a greater number of application examples collected leading to better troubleshooting and decision-making. So, we need to embrace Industry 4.0 or the Industrial Internet of Things if we are going to benefit from such technologies and this requires greater use of remote diagnostics and Cloud computing to provide medium-term and longterm decisions that will ensure better efficiency going forward. In this scenario Edge computers will make more pressing short-term decisions requiring a rapid response like shutting down a plant due to an erroneous transient whilst Cloud computers will be used for asset management by way of condition monitoring. The bottom line is that we need to help the end-users establish cyber-security models that allow them to benefit from such centralised asset management whilst providing the cyber protection required to make sure they are not held to ransom by cyber terrorists. Closing thought; Why do many of us trust our banks to protect our data but wouldnâ&#x20AC;&#x2122;t dream of trusting a supplier with our employerâ&#x20AC;&#x2122;s data when said supplier uses the same Cloud technologies often via Microsoft, Amazon or Google who spend hundreds of thousands of dollars on making sure they are secure? Power And Downstream Industries - Saudi Arabia’s Future. The downstream industry is a key element for Saudi Arabia’s efforts to diversify its economy away from oil dependence. The Kingdom plans to increase the contribution of its manufacturing sector from 13% in 2016 to 24% in 2020. The Kingdom’s goal is to manufacture refined products and establish a link between the upstream and downstream industries. Policymakers encourage local producers to broaden their feedstock mix to new refined products such as Butane, Naptha and Propane. The Petro Rabigh expansion, worth $7.2 billion, for instance, includes the construction of a Naphtha Hydrotreater unit with a capacity of 17,000 barrels per day (bpd). Aramco aims to double its global refining capacity to 10 million bpd through local and international investments. Jizan Refinery, worth $2.1 billion, is an example of an ongoing project that will process 400,000 bpd and produce a variety of products such as benzene and low-sulphur diesel. Furthermore, Saudi Arabia plans to diversify its

energy mix to be sustainable and meet the increasing domestic demand. Recently, the Kingdom has pushed its nuclear projects forward by releasing requests for information (RFIs) to international suppliers. At the moment, the client evaluates the RFIs and negotiations with technology providers are taking place. The Kingdom aims to establish a world class renewable energy industry. In February, Renewable Energy Project Development Office (REPDO) has selected Acwa Power to develop Sakaka Photovoltaic Solar Plant. Other projects such as Dumat Al Jandal Wind Project are advancing as well with bid submission due on March 20th, 2018. Saudi Arabia is interested in diversifying the downstream feedstock mix and integrating ongoing projects to the full value chain. Huge efforts are made by policymakers to diversify the kingdom’s energy mix for long term sustainability. Nuclear and renewable energy projects are the foundation of future energy plans.

Oman - Oil And Petrochemical Projects Outlook Commissioning of the Sohar Refinery Improvement Project (SRIP) began while the Muscat-Sohar Product Pipeline (MSPP) project connecting the refinery to Mina al-Fahal refinery in Muscat neared completion. Both projects are owned by Oman Refineries & Petrochemical Industries Company (ORPIC). Commissioning of the SRIP’s new units was completed in September, and output of diesel, gasoline, jet-kerosene and LPG amounted to 204,000 b/d, compared with 177,000 b/d in Q4-2017. The new capacity will supply feedstock to ORPIC’s nearby aromatics and polypropylene plants as well as feeding ORPIC’s Liwa Plastics Industries Complex, on which construction commenced in 2016. The complex is on track to begin commissioning in late 2019. The four main components of the complex are a steam cracker, polyethylene, and polypropylene units, a natural gas liquids (NGL) extraction plant at Fahud, and a 300km pipeline to deliver the NGL to the petrochemical complex in Sohar. MSPP project, a scheme designed to reduce the heavy fuel tanker traffic in Muscat by 70%, is currently under commissioning. Phase 1 of the scheme is a pipeline connecting Muscat Airport and

the Mina al Fahal Refinery by the main storage facility at Muscat, while Phase 2 is a 297 km multi-product pipeline connecting the Mina al Fahal Refinery to Sohar Refinery. Phase 2 also includes storage facility and distribution terminal in Al-Jifnain. Progress is also announced at a gigantic development at Duqm, on the central coast of Oman. DRPIC, a 50-50 Joint venture between Oman Oil Company and Kuwait Petroleum International, has signed the EPC contracts for its Duqm Refinery project. The contractors are a JV of Daewoo and Tecnicas Reunidas, selected for the Main Processing Unit, a JV of Petrofac and Samsung

Engineering, the winner of the Offsites and Utilities, and a JV of Saipem and CB&I appointed for the Terminal Facilities, Pipelines and Tanks. In Dhofar, Southern Oman, a long-planned 1,000 tpd ammonia plant, to be integrated with an existing methanol facility, is finally moving towards implementation. The EPC contract was awarded to SNC Lavalin in March and financial close was reached in August. Construction of the civil buildings begun last December while a list of the project components suppliers are yet to be finalized by SNC .

EWA - Al-Dur Independent Water & Power Project (IWPP) The demand for electricity in the Kingdom of Bahrain is continuously on the rise, the Al-Dur Independent Water & Power Project (IWPP) planned by Bahrain’s Electricity and Water Authority (EWA) in 2008 was one of the many projects the country has undertaken to meet this growing demand. When the first phase of the project was completed in 2012, the Al-Dur IWPP was the largest independent power and water desalination plant in Bahrain, producing 1,234 Megawatts (MW) of power and 48 Million Imperial Gallons per Day (MIGD) of water and was also the largest desalination plant with reverse osmosis technology in the Middle East. The Al-Dur IWPP is currently in phase two, which commenced in 2013 after phase one was completed. Initially, phase two of the project was supposed to be commissioned in 2016, however, the bidding process for the EPC contract was suspended several times due to the bids going over budget. In December 2017, EWA has once again begun the process of inviting prequalified companies to bid for a contract that will include the design, procurement, engineering, construction and commissioning of the power & desalination plant, gas connection facilities, and the seawater intake/outfall facilities. The scope will also cover the operation and maintenance of the plant and the seawater intake/outfall facilities. The phase two plant will have a capacity of 1,200 - 1,500 MW and 4050 MIGD. The power side of the second phase is now scheduled to be commissioned by the second quarter of 2020 and the desalination side of the project is expected to come online in the second quarter of 2021.

Coal to Meet Northern Emirate Power Demand As part of the UAE’s energy strategy, coal is expected to be assigned to 12%, equivalent to 11.2GW of the total generation of electricity by the year 2050. Although an unfavorable, and often criticized method for provision of power due to its low efficiency and polluting factors, the UAE has been successful in implementing new technologies for a cleaner way to develop coal-driven power plants. Dubai managed to position itself as a clean coal developer through its currently executed Hassyan 2,400 MW coal-fired power station project. Without neglecting the north of the country, and with an aim to meet the region’s growing power demand, the Federal Electricity and Water Authority (FEWA) specifically planned the development of a 1.8GW plant in Ras Al Khaimah. After identifying that the region’s demand required coal import facilities, the plant will strategically situate at Ras Al Khaimah’s Maritime City and shall be developed using an independent power project (IPP) model. The scope of work is carefully selected and will incorporate a variety of components which will be constructed, ranging from coal- fired boilers, to steam

turbine units, cooling water systems, firefighting pump house and water tank, power supply. Several international companies have been selected to be involved in the project and several more are expected to be awarded in 2018. Advisory consultants have been selected for the initial part and latter stages of the development. Deloitte is the financial advisor, whilst ILF Consulting Engineers is providing technical consulting services, and Trowers & Hamlins is providing legal. With several prior attempts to submit the request for proposals, FEWA’s latest plans entailed the documents to be issued in 2017. However, further studies needed to be carried out to ensure that the grid can sustain the planned increase in capacity and more discussions were taking place regarding the possibility to increase the capacity even further. Consequently, the RFQs are now expected to be issued at the end of March 2018 and effectively, the bidding for the main contract as well as the project engineering, procurement and construction (EPC) phase contract award are expected later on during 2018.

FieldComm Group Meets with UAE based Vendors/ Users over Technology Marketing Needs FieldComm Group met with UAE based vendors and users to discuss about the marketing needs for their various technologies and to review the programs proposed for the first FieldComm Day – UAE The meeting started off with Paul Sereiko giving a short over view presentation of FieldComm Group to establish a foundational understanding among those present. Mohammed Loch asked each attendee present, to comment on their experiences with the various technologies on offer as well as their opinions on what FieldComm could offer to enhance use of their technologies. HART Communication Protocol seems to be the most popular FieldComm technology in use. Almost all the attendees were using it at least for configuration and commissioning, while some are using it in full digital and this seems to be in the upswing. Foundation Fieldbus was being used by some, but not for control in the field because of an underlying concern of a perceived technology risk. Some of the attendees were using WirelessHART while there were others who chose to not use it at all. None of the users were aware of either the FDI or the APL and while most suppliers were aware of APL, only a few of the suppliers were aware of APL. There was a general agreement between all the attendees on that, although they were using all these technologies, they were not using them to their full potential. The only concerns put forward and that too by a few, were that of “old technology” and a few other perceived negatives. Predictive maintenance was a major point of discussion as a lot of the attendees recognized that HART helped them out a lot on the issue and wanted to use it more. This consequently led to a lot of the attendees suggesting to include the topic, “Using HART for Predictive Maintenance” for the FieldComm Day event. Another point brought up by a vendor was that ProfiBus had a local support center and it would benefit the users of the various technologies provided by FieldComm to have a local

support center for them too. A third suggestion was to provide direct end-user training to the actual endusers rather than having sales engineer trained to provide training to the customer engineering manager who in turn has to train the actual end-users. The representative from Endress+Hauser asked about what FieldComm Group could do to aid in the integration processes, implying on the training and proper use of FDI features. The Schneider representative then pointed out the need to inform users of the optimization in control room real estate that could be achieved with Foundation Fieldbus. Features like “Notes” and “Calculators” could come in handy. All of the attendees, both users and vendors, were quick to agree on the fact that more vendor-neutral training was needed. After discussing about the technology marketing, the meeting moved on to review the proposed program for the first FieldComm Day – UAE. All present seemed to agree to the content proposed for the program with no negative opinions regarding the program. The interest in attending the event seemed positively high with each attendee suggesting that at least 10 members from their company/division would be interested in attending the event. To summarize the meeting, there was wide agreement over the fact that more technology training was needed to improve full usage of FieldComm Group technologies; the vendors were in full support of the need to market FieldComm technologies more in the Middle East and a few even committed to making this recommendation to their management; The FieldComm Day – UAE was given the “Go Ahead!” approval by all present. The meeting concluded with Mohammed Loch deciding to convene a separate meeting with vendors to get participation commitment and to iron out the event details and also to align responsibilities to aid in the execution of the next steps as decided in the meeting.

Interview with H.E. Dr. Khalid S. Al-Sultan Rector of King Fahd University of Petroleum and Minerals KFUPM has been collaborating with ISA and the industry in organizing these symposia on Control Systems and their industrial applications for more than 16 years. This event started as WISC, Workshop on industrial Systems and Control. The first event was organized back in 2002, and this is the ninth SISC (Symposium in Industrial Systems & Control) in the series. Through the years, this event was able to establish a name and attract many leading players in the Kingdom economy. From the start, the goal was to create a platform where academia and industry (technology providers and end users) can meet and have a meaningful exchange of information about technologies, project, research outcomes and student achievement. This extremely important goal has been successfully met at each event since more than a decade. Q) In your opinion, what is the main value proposition of process automation technologies? Process automation technologies are the backbone of any industrial system. If we want to achieve quality, efficiency, and optimality in operational cost, one of the most important ingredients that we should have in the industry is automation. Automation technologies have substantial economic and technical benefits in most business environments. In general, investing in automation technologies means replacing human employees with automated equipment and processes. In manufacturing, automation increases the production rate and quality, improves the precision, and eliminates human errors. In the service sector, automation can leads to huge improvements in terms of the speed, quality, and transparency of service. Although automation technologies require large financial investments, the return on investment is high and the payback period is short. The greatest opportunity for product or service improvement and economic benefit is in applications with labor-intensive, repetitive, and manual processes. From a strategic point of view, automation technologies are particularly valuable in Saudi Arabia and the entire GCC region, due to the shortage of skilled labor resources. Q) What are the benefits of KFUPM & ISA SAS collaborating together to produce the Symposium on Industrial Systems & Control (SISC) 2018? SISC has been around for many years. It should be noted that the Systems Engineering Department

From the beginning, International Society of Automation (ISA), Saudi Arabian Section (SAS), has been an active supporter of SISC. The ISA Student Chapter at KFUPM has been instrumental in helping to plan and run the various SISC events. ISA-SAS has been always a sponsor of SISC as one of the main organizations directly related to control and instrumentation. ISA officers in almost all previous events have been active members of the SISC organizing committee. In this event, however, our collaboration with ISA has reached new heights. We expect this higher level of collaboration to be a win-win situation for all sides and stakeholders. For KFUPM, we will have the full support of ISASAS in planning, publicizing, and organizing the symposium. For ISA, they will get KFUPMâ&#x20AC;&#x2122;s academic credibility, the expertise of our faculty members, in addition to our long experience in organizing such events. For the automation and control industry and professional community, they will get a bigger, more diversified, and better organized event. We hope that this collaboration with ISA-SAS will be the start of a lasting, mutually beneficial partnership, and a model for collaboration with other professional and scientific societies. A solid joint organization of the event will definitely attract more from the local industries and it will give both ISA-SAS event and SISC a wider audience and a more effective coverage. This is an important step when we think forward and look at local content. Indeed, such joint event will strengthen the Tripartite relationship and will be a corner step in encouraging, developing, and sustaining local content.

INSIGHT! FEATURE Q) Digital Transformation is one of the main themes of this yearâ&#x20AC;&#x2122;s event. Why has this area been given so much focus? Digital transformation is driven by the fast pace of technological innovation and the decreasing cost of applying information and communication technologies all aspects of business organizations. These digital technologies allow organizations to connect, coordinate, control, and simultaneously optimize all of their business components. For example, manufacturing equipment, delivery trucks, and storage racks can be automated and/or equipped with sensors and communication devices in order to become parts of the firmâ&#x20AC;&#x2122;s integrated, real-time, digitalized decisionmaking system. This large network of interconnected physical devices is what is currently referred to as the Internet of Things (IoT). Another driver for the increasing emphasis on digital transformation is the availability of huge and growing amounts of digital data, which has given prominence to the emerging field of data analytics. Without digital transformation, it would be impossible to collect, integrate, analyze, and utilize the different data parts produced by different entities within the firm. In addition, the growing customer expectations and the increasing global competition are forcing companies to use state-of-the-art technologies to make them more responsive, agile, and competitive. Finally, the importance of the automation technologies and the digital transformation has been recognized in the Kingdom Vision 2030. There is a clear focus on artificial intelligence, robotics, IoT, etc. KFUPM has been leading in the educational and in research fronts to ensure that our graduate are well prepared to contribute to the local economy and contribute to keep our industries up to date. Q) Is there any advice you would like to give the attendees of the conference and exhibition on how they can maximize the value they get out of the event? This event is an excellent opportunity for any participant present to see state of the art technologies, advanced research outcomes, and an excellent snapshot of the work of the industry and academia when the join hands. The event also offers an excellent environment and a fantastic occasion for experience sharing. So attendees should take advantage of all that. They should attend the different seminars, talk with the presenters, visit the exhibition hall and get to know each other. The networks that they can create, the collaboration that may result, and above all the understanding of the needs of the technology providers, the end users and academia is of prime importance.

First, to take full advantage of everything that the symposium has to offer, from scientific theoretical sessions, to industrial practical sessions, to exhibitions, and finally to professional networking opportunities. Second, to expand their horizons, and avoid limiting themselves to their current, perhaps narrow, areas of interest. The world is changing, technology is changing, and organizations are changing, and the pace of change is getting ever faster. Therefore, we all should be ready to change and adapt, and should be ready to venture out of our comfort zones to embrace new innovative ideas. Third, I personally invite all participants and attendees to take advantage of KFUPM resources. KFUPM superb teaching is well-known, due to the high competency of its graduates who are working in all kinds of industries. However, as a world-class university, KFUPM has other equally-important strengths, such as research and innovation that are directly oriented towards the service of companies around the region. In fact, KFUPM has a comprehensive ecosystem of innovation and industrial collaboration. This ecosystem includes: the Dhahran Techo Valley (DTV); the Research Institute, dedicated to applied projects for industry; the Entrepreneurship Institute; a planned business park; agreements and memos of understanding with several companies; and so on. Companies are invited to take advantage of these resources for mutual benefits, not only to create scientific knowledge, but also to create value for the national economy. Q) What content would you like to see in future SISC Events? First and foremost, I would like SISC to continue on the path of excellence that it started for many years. Second, collaboration between SISC and ISA-SAS should not be limited this one event. There should be a plan to strengthen this relationship and push it forward to a new even higher level. I understand that this is the first event and I am looking forward to seeing future events reach the same success. As for the SISC program, I would like to see some existing components remain emphasized in the foreseeable future, such as data analytics and cyber security. For new components, I hope to see more emphasis on the local content, in terms of technology generation and applications. In particular, I would recommend more emphasis on relevant military applications, such as the control of military drones. Other noteworthy local applications that require more attention in the future include desalination, water resources, and solar and renewable energy. In fact, all the control and automation themes related the 2020 National Transformation Program and the Saudi Vision 2030 should be considered as potential areas of focus in future SISC events.

Opening Remarks and Awards H.E. Dr. Khalid S. Al-Sultan Rector of King Fahd University of Petroleum and Minerals Dr. Al-Sultan received a Ph.D. in Industrial and Operations Engineering (Operations Research) and a M.S. in Applied Mathematics from the University of Michigan, Ann Arbor, in 1990. Prior to that, he obtained a M.S. in Systems Engineering from KFUPM in January 1987, and a B.S. (with highest honors) in Systems Engineering, KFUPM, in January 1985. Dr. Al-Sultan was the Dean of the College of Computer Science & Engineering (September 1996–August 1998) and Chairman of the Systems Engineering Department (June 1993–August 1996) at KFUPM. Dr. Al-Sultan has served on the Editorial Boards of several international journals, has published 40 papers in refereed journals, coauthored one book and four book chapters, and has attended numerous international conferences. He is a member of a number of international professional organizations and consultant for several government and private industrial institutions. Dr. Al-Sultan is now a member of Saudi Aramco Board of Directors. Dr. Al-Sultan received also a number of awards for his distinguish work, researches & participations. In 2005, he received the “Middle East CEO of the Year 2005” award.

Ahmed Ali Al Ghamdi Manager of Process & Control Systems Department (P&CSD) Saudi Aramco Currently the Manager of Process & Control Systems Department (P&CSD), Saudi Aramco, since June 2016. P&CSD is located in Dhahran, Saudi Arabia. Leads a large corporate engineering organization responsible for setting companywide engineering standards and suppliers technical approval, mega projects support, technology evaluation, as well as engineering consulting and advisory functions covering midstream/downstream process engineering, process control and instrumentation. Has more than 26 years of experience with Saudi Aramco in Engineering, Construction and Management of oil and gas processing facilities. Assumed the Manager position of North Ghawar Producing, Hawiyah Gas Plant, Haradh Gas Plant and Mechanical Services Shops Departments during 2013 - 2016. Established Gas Operations Technical Support Division in 2010 and assumed its chief position responsibilities until end of 2012. Joined HGP design team in Houston/Texas in year 2000, for two years, as Project Engineer with Aramco Services Company and continued with the team throughout the plant design, construction and commissioning stages. Spent the first 10 years of my career in Engineering and Maintenance of Gas Oil Separation Plants (GOSPs) at Abqaiq with tense participation as primary Engineer for the modernization of their process control systems. Served as Chairman of the Executive Committee of the GCC chapter of Gas Processing Association (GPA-GCC) (2013 – 2017). Represented Saudi Aramco as Executive Committee member in the organizing committee of the Middle East Process Engineering Conference (MEPEC 2017) that took place in October 2017 in Bahrain. Has participated in several leadership training programs including; (1) Saudi Aramco Management Development Seminar (SAMDS) Program (April 20-May 10, 2013) which is designed to develop more capable global leaders, (2) The International Executive Program at INSEAD Business School in France back in 2010, (3) The Asia Business & Culture Program that was organized by Aperian Global USA in South Korea, China and Japan back in 2008, (4) Achieving Strategic Agility Program at London Business School back in 2007 and Business Acumen Program that was organized by The Learning Partnership USA in Bahrain back in 2006. Holds a Master Degree in Construction Engineering and Management from King Fahad University of Petroleum and Minerals (KFUPM) in 2002. He has over 25 years of experience at different capacities in the engineering, planning, and deployment of automation, integration, network and system solutions. Soloman Almadi holds a PhD in simulation and computing from Brunel University, UK and M.S. degree in Electrical Engineering from Southern Methodist University, USA. and B.S. degree in Electrical Engineering from University of Texas, USA. He is an inventor with several patents, has published several IEEE and SPE technical papers in networking, system automations, substation, computing, simulations, and Intelligent Field, and active member of ISA.

Dr. Hesham Kamal Al-Fares Symposium Co-Chairman, Chairman of Systems Engineering King Fahd University of Petroleum and Minerals Dr. Hesham Kamal Al-Fares is Chairman and Professor in the Systems Engineering Department at King Fahd University of Petroleum & Minerals, Dhahran, Saudi Arabia. He has more than 100 publications, including 50 journal papers, and a U.S. patent. Dr. Alfares has been as a visiting scholar at MIT and the University of North Carolina in the USA, in addition to four universities in the UK. He won one research grant from the US Fulbright Foundation, and four grants from the British Council. He won KFUPM Research Excellence Award twice, and received the Almarai Prize for Scientific Innovation. He has been a member in the editorial boards of three international journals. He has been a keynote speaker in one international conference and a program committee member in 28 international conferences.

Luay Awami Symposium Co-Chairman P&CSD/PASD/Instrumentation Unit Saudi Aramco Luay Awami is an Engineering Consultant with the Instrumentation Unit of Process & Control Systems Department, Saudi Aramco. Luay holds a B.S. and M.S. degree in Chemical Engineering from King Fahd University of Petroleum and Minerals (KFUPM). Luay has more than 22 years of experience on process instrumentation especially control valves and pressure relief devices, mostly with Saudi Aramco central engineering organization. Luay has been an officer of ISA Saudi Arabia Section for the last 10 years and was the Section President from 1/1/2009 to 31/12/2014.

He served on the faculty at universities worldwide: Egypt (CU, AUC), Kuwait (KU), UAE (UAEU), UK (UMIST), USA (Pitt, Case Western), Singapore (Nanyang) and Australia (Adelaide). He lectured in Venezuela (Caracas), Germany (Hanover), UK (Kent, UCL), USA (UoSA), Canada (Montreal), and China (BIT, Yanshan). Dr. Mahmoud is the principal author of twenty-five (25) books, twenty-one (21) book-chapters and the author/co-author of more than 580 peer-reviewed papers. He is the recipient of two national, one regional and several university prizes for outstanding research in engineering and applied mathematics.

Keynote Speaker Dr. Hassan K. Khalil Michigan State University Dr. Hassan K. Khalil is University Distinguished Professor of Electrical and Computer Engineering at Michigan State University. He received B.S. and M.S. from Cairo University and Ph.D. from the University of Illinois. He published over 100 papers on singular perturbation methods and nonlinear control. He is the author of High-Gain Observers in Nonlinear Feedback Control (SIAM 2017), Nonlinear Control (Pearson 2015), Nonlinear Systems (Macmillan 1992; Prentice Hall 1996 & 2002) and coauthor of Singular Perturbation Methods in Control: Analysis and Design (Academic Press 1986; SIAM 1999). Dr. Khalil is Fellow of IEEE and IFAC. He was Associate Editor of the IEEE Transactions on Automatic Control, Automatica, and Neural Networks, and Editor of Automatica. Steering Committee Eng. Abdulaziz Abdulrahman Sabri Vice President Bahri Ship Management Eng. Abdulaziz Abdulrahman Sabri is Vice President of Bahri Ship Management, one of six business units within Bahri, a global leader in transportation and logistics. Sabri oversees all aspects of the company’s business operations including safety and quality and is responsible for providing overall direction for the operation and maintenance of all vessels in the fleet. He also assumes responsibility for ensuring that the vessels are always operated and maintained in accordance with company procedures and relevant international rules and regulations. Bringing nearly three decades of experience in the shipping, logistics, and energy industries, Sabri’s leadership and strategic foresight have been instrumental in catapulting Bahri Ship Management into one of the world’s leading providers of technical and commercial ship management services for VLCCs, chemical tankers, dry bulk and RoCon vessels. The company today manages a fleet in excess of 83 vessels. A Saudi national, Sabri started his career in 1989 as a maintenance engineer at Saudi Aramco. In 1996, he moved to Vela International Marine Limited, the shipping arm of Saudi Aramco, where he spent the next 18 years serving in a variety of roles including Site Manager at the company’s site office South Korea shipyard and later, Fleet Operations Manager. He joined Bahri as Vice President – Technical Services in 2014 before being promoted to his current role in February 2016. He holds a degree in Mechanical Engineering from King Fahd University of Petroleum and Minerals in Dhahran, Saudi Arabia. Phillip Campbell Vice President of Mine and Refinery Ma’aden Bauxite Aluminum Company Phillip Campbell is the Vice President of Mine and Refinery – Ma’aden Bauxite Aluminum Company. He holds a Master’s degree in Metallurgical Engineering from University of Wollongong. He has worked in Australia – WA and Queensland, Russia and now in Saudi Arabia in Mining industry.

Engr. Mohammed H. Al Rashidi General Manager, Technical Support PETROKEMYA Engr. Mohammed H. Al Rashidi is the General Manager, Technical Support of SABIC affiliate Arabian Petrochemical Company (PETROKEMYA). He graduated from King Fahad University of Petroleum and Minerals (KFUPM) with a Bachelor’s Degree in Chemical Engineering Science. He then went on to pursue his Master in Executive MBA from Thunderbird School of Global Management (Arizona University). His career with SABIC spans a total of twenty-one (21) years starting as part of the Engineering Staff of SABIC affiliate KEMYA in April 1997. He then went on to manage KEMYA’s Maintenance Planning Division in April 2008 and from there became Senior Manager of LLDPE Operations and then EPDM Operations in April 2009 and October 2012 respectively. Roelof Heezen Executive Vice President SASREF Roelof started working at the Royal Dutch Shell laboratories in Amsterdam after graduating in Chemical Engineering in the mid-eighties. Focus of work in 1990-ties was on hydro-processing with assignments in residue hydro-processing (Pernis), on the the Jubail hydrocracker and servicing US hydroprocessing units while based in Houston. Thereafter Roelof worked as Process Engineering Manager at the Shell Deer Park refinery. Returning to the Netherlands in 2003 to join the consultancy arm of Shell focused on business improvement and short and long term hydrocarbon management improvements for refineries. In 2007 Roelof move back to hydro-processing as global manager with end-to-end responsibility for the field. Was appointed in 2009 as Vice President R&D of Downstream Technology in 2009 in Shell. Focus was on long term options, including biofuels and chemicals. In 2014 Roelof returned to SASREF as EVP, with responsibilities for Operations, Maintenance and Process Technology.

David Marion Vice President Manufacturing SATORP David Marion is now Vice President Manufacturing in SATORP (JV Saudi Aramco and Total located at Jubail industrial area in Saudi Arabia). Career of 25 years in Total group, mainly in refining, David started as Process control engineer for about 3 years followed by a position as Operation Superintendent for about 4 years in Normandy Refinery (France). After 1 year in USA â&#x20AC;&#x201C; Houston TX, was appointed as Project manager to implement SAP in 12 European refineries. His next position was Maintenance manager at Feyzin refining and petrochemicals (France), followed by a business position in Donges refinery (France). In 2009, he was general manager of SARA refinery (JV Total, Ruby, Exxon) in Martinique French Caribbean island. He was then back to Normandy refinery as GM for about 3 years and then moved to Saudi Arabia in July 2015.

He chaired several academic committees, including ABET and NCAAA, developed new courses, a DSP lab and short courses, and was a reviewer for various journals/conferences and grant-awarding institutions. He served on the editorial boards of the journals IJEEE and CDSR and on the organizing committees of SISC, ISSPA and CDSR. He won a scholarship from the Algerian government in 1975, best academic advisor in 1994 and was elevated to the position of IEEE Senior member in 2003.

FieldComm Group: IIoT-based Digitalization: Taking Automation to the Next Level With the rise of the Industrial Internet of Things (IIoT) and Industry 4.0, device and system integration are paramount to seamless operation of manufacturing facilities. Industrial organizations are seeking secure and proven technologies to drive IIoT-based digitization and move field data into the cloud via open platform solutions.The following article describes how leading automation industry stakeholders are advancing open information integration and enterprise data exchange in the new era of automation. Introduction The IIoT and Industry 4.0 are everywhere, and they’re redefining manufacturing with an unprecedented level of impact. While the interoperability of IIoTbased devices and systems will no doubt be subject of ongoing discussion, there are already wellestablished standards in industrial and manufacturing environments that can accelerate the shift to outcomebased models. One of today’s biggest challenges is the sheer number of different devices and applications that exist from legacy systems all the way through modern industrial assets. Automation suppliers are struggling to address the IIoT, and doing so, develop products and solutions enabling customers to have all their data and information in a multi-vendor, multiplatform environment. Organizations like NAMUR, the German chemical industry association, have long focused on asset management and standardized device configuration in a multi-vendor environment. Standardization of devices, including their data and metadata, not only makes configuration easier, but also solves the complex problem of training new plant operators. Changing Industry Outlook With the traditional separation of the Information Technology (IT) and Operations Technology (OT) worlds, industrial organizations have been prevented from sharing key information between the two realms. Despite the growing convergence of IT and OT, however, end-users really don’t want all the raw data from devices in the OT world to be placed in IT systems. There is a current trend whereby intelligent decisions are made about plant assets and process automation with the assistance of enterprise tools. Common tasks such as preventative maintenance and tracking information to know when machinery needs repair can increase efficiency and lower the cost of operations. By having the right information, personnel can anticipate problems long before they occur and take appropriate corrective actions to keep the plant up and running.

Need for Open Integration Standards organizations that understand the requirements of IIoT and Industry 4.0 are working together to promote data interchange across the enterprise – something essential to help enable a fully digital industrial economy. The goal is to standardize on the structure that provides secure, reliable information integration and interoperability between two traditionally separated information realms (IT and OT). For example, FieldComm Group, which is responsible for ongoing development of FDI™ (Field Device Integration) technology, an internationally standardized solution for process automation device and systems integration, has collaborated with the OPC Foundation to include several OPC Unified Architecture (OPC UA) specifications that define field devices and field device integration in the context of the FDI solution. The two standards share the same information model that defines the context of field devices in process automation. The goal is to ensure that as systems evolve an open pathway to field device information is assured. FDI is a visionary technology that dramatically simplifies software installation, configuration, maintenance, and management of field instruments and host systems. It meets the demand for a universal, standardized and interoperable technique to comprehensively describe automation components. The standard is vital for everyday purposes ranging from device configuration, device replacement and maintenance, to diagnostics and audit trails – all essential building blocks in a modern field device management system. At the same time, FDI enables greater compatibility of Electronic Device Description Language (EDDL)-based networks such as HART and FOUNDATION Fieldbus, allowing these and other networks to be more easily integrated with each other. It also allows EDDL-based systems to be integrated into a host of other industrial networks. The core of FDI technology is the scalable FDI Device Package, which describes a field instrument or automation component in all aspects. The FDI Device Package incorporates a device specific Electronic Device Description (EDD) based on the harmonized EDDL per IEC 61804. The value of FDI is especially realized by end-users, in that devices across the spectrum of industrial standards can be engineered and maintained with a common systemand device-independent set of tools. Driving Digital Transformation By delivering meaningful information where and when it is needed most across the enterprise, IIoT and Industry 4.0 open up new possibilities for safety, productivity, organizational responsiveness and,

DIGITALIZATION ultimately, profitability. One of the key reasons for their growth and popularity has been open standards such as FOUNDATION Fieldbus and WirelessHART. Digital down to the sensor level, FOUNDATION Fieldbus has been at the forefront of digital transformation since its inception. The technology provides an all-digital communication infrastructure for process automation, with powerful multivariable measurement capabilities, robust device diagnostics, and the ability to integrate wireless devices across multiple networks. Its block structure is unique, enabling true distributed functionality, improved data management, and alarm and alert management. FOUNDATION Fieldbus takes automation to the next level by making control loops entirely digital from end-to-end – from transmitter to positioner –and by communicating multiple signals from multiple devices on the same pairs of wires. The technology also enables new, more powerful devices, including intelligent two-wire on/off devices with predictive diagnostics. These benefits also allow for greatly reduced cabling and physical footprint. Putting Technology to Work A growing number of automation end-users, system integrators and engineering firms are turning to FieldComm Group’s AG-181 System Engineering Guidelines for best practices and recommendations for a complete FOUNDATION fieldbus installation, from engineering and design through commissioning, startup, operations, and maintenance. The guide includes recommendations on topics from selecting cable to wiring installation, grounding, implementing plant asset management systems, and best practices for project management. First published in 2003, the AG-181 Guide includes sections covering the Fieldbus Intrinsically Safe Concept (FISCO) fieldbus design rules, cable length, surge protection, segment scheduling, and the use of existing instrument wiring. It offers many valuable pointers on how to execute fieldbus projects right the first time, and is an essential part of the toolbox of any FOUNDATION fieldbus professional. The AG-181 System Engineering Guidelines is separated into 11 sections, each covering different aspects of the fieldbus project lifecycle. Specific topics include: General Considerations, Fieldbus Definitions, Fieldbus Project Requirements, Host System Requirements, Software Configuration, Field Device Requirements, Segment Components, Network/ Segment Design Guidelines, Site Installation Guidelines, Acceptance Testing, and Documentation Requirements. In addition, the System Engineering Guidelines document provides accurate and current fieldbus information in a vendor-neutral format, and is revised periodically to reflect changes to FOUNDATION technology.

WirelessHART – Simple, Reliable. Secure. Another technology solution that is driving digital transformation enabling IIoT and Industry 4.0 information integration, is WirelessHART. WirelessHART is a wireless communications protocol for process automation applications. It adds wireless capabilities to millions of installed or new plant measurement and control devices. WirelessHART uses mesh networking technology. Each device in a mesh network can serve as a router for messages from other devices. In other words, a device doesn’t have to communicate directly to a gateway, but just forward its message to the next closest device. This extends the range of the network and provides redundant communication routes to increase reliability, particularly in the difficult radio environment found in process facilities. WirelessHART device and diagnostics information enable digital integration to cloud or enterprise-based information systems delivering valuable data where and when it is needed to improve operations, safety, productivity and profitability. Conclusion Proprietary solutions in industrial automation are quickly becoming a thing of the past. Industry stakeholders are no longer satisfied with products from different vendors not interoperating together in a seamless manner. This expectation now requires multivendor and multi-platform information integration from the sensor to the cloud. At the heart of IIoT and Industry 4.0 are technologies like FOUNDATION Fieldbus and WirelessHART, which help automation suppliers and end-users digitally connect to the data revealed by increasingly smart instrumentation, and then integrate the information with enterprise systems to advance business performance. Market is Changing The global process safety systems market is changing in a rapid and dramatic way. Less industrialized countries continue efforts to grow their economies and build megaplants. These complexes will be interconnected and offer multiple complex product streams. There will be requirements to coordinate “in process” product flows and extend safety shutdown functionalities across multiple units and areas of these facilities. End users are demanding more information about the functioning and behaviors of their process safety systems, and they want them to be easier and more intuitive to access. Recognizing the need to become more cost-efficient to remain profitable in the changing global environment, many companies are adjusting their business practices to meet the challenges of the “new norm.” ARC is also seeing increased efforts to optimize existing operations for maximum availability (by minimizing spurious trips) and migrate/upgrade formerly grandfathered systems into a compliant process safety system. Today, proof of compliance is not only mandated, it can also provide benefits by reducing insurance costs.

Complicating the picture is the fact that many common IT network maintenance practices (such as automatic software update installation, anti-virus updates, and bug fixes) must be modified for the mission-critical, 24/7 industrial network environments in which SISs operate. “Integrated vs. Separate” Most leading process safety systems suppliers today also supply automation systems. Eight out of the top nine suppliers in this market offer a broad range of automation products. As the leading automation systems suppliers have entered the safety system business, customer preference appears to be shifting toward using a common supplier and – in some cases even similar platform technology for both control and safety systems. This approach offers the advantage of reducing engineering costs and project risk.

Cybersecurity Remains a Key Concern Cybersecurity is top-of-mind for many major SIS end users, especially after very costly cyber-attacks on major oil & gas and refining industry sites in the Middle East. The appearance of the Stuxnet malware in 2010 dramatically changed the general attitude toward cybersecurity for industrial automation systems and equipment. Stuxnet demonstrated that malware can be deployed by nation states as a weapon of war as well as by hackers. Such weapons may be extremely difficult to develop, but are also very difficult to trace to an individual, group, or country. They may also prove widely effective against “soft targets,” including relatively insecure industrial devices and systems. SIS suppliers are addressing the cybersecurity threat with active initiatives, either in-house, through partnerships, or both. Although integrating process automation systems (DCS) and process safety systems, or “safety integrated systems (SIS) – a growing trend in recent decades – may offer some advantages, many end users are carefully considering just “how integrated” they want their systems to be due to the fear of increased exposure to cybersecurity and other threats. Internal threats from disgruntled employees or other internal access points must also be addressed with techniques such as USB or Ethernet (physical) port

However, both approaches have tradeoffs. While integrated DCS/SIS platforms can certainly help reduce overall project risk and offer potential cost savings related to reduced engineering, training, and spare parts requirements; proponents of separation would argue that this increases vulnerability to both cyberand physical security risks and opens the potential for common-cause failures. There are also varying degrees of “integration” to consider. For example, are the systems just integrated from an engineering, HMI and/or asset management perspective (very likely), or is there actual integration at the control logic level (not very likely)? Interestingly, based on current ARC research, the “neckin-neck” market leaders in the SIS space – Schneider Electric and Yokogawa, represent both ends of this

PROCESS SAFETY spectrum. With its Triconex offering, Schneider Electric remains a strong proponent of strict separation between DCS and SIS; while Yokogawa offers an integrated system approach with its ProSafe-RS solution.

Expanding Scope of Supply More industry participants (owner-operators and suppliers alike) are expanding the main automation contractor (MAC) project concept to include the electrical equipment and systems. A few large global automation suppliers have the product portfolios and expertise to serve as both the main electrical contractor (MEC) and MAC, further reducing project engineering costs. The IEC 61850 standards, sometimes referred to as the “fieldbus for electrical,” help drive this trend. Automation suppliers with a strong electrical equipment presence benefit from (and drive) this trend at the expense of suppliers without this expertise. This trend is most evident in large greenfield projects. Regardless of the project scope, there is an increasing trend to look to a third party for safety consulting services. End users are losing the ability to provide these services in-house. These services extend beyond configuring and installing the safety system to pre-project work like determining the appropriate safety integrity levels (SILs), and after-project work like maintenance support, testing, and validation. New Competition Emerging Local technology suppliers in China, India, Brazil, and elsewhere have begun to develop solid SIS offerings that often appeal to local end users, particularly those without a global footprint. Many of the Chinese SIS suppliers, for example, are expanding their businesses to other parts of Asia. While these local technology suppliers do not yet represent global competition for the established SIS suppliers, this situation will likely change. Recognizing that many previous process safety system projects have failed, suppliers

are adopting new technologies and standards to improve process safety system project execution. Some of the key technological changes occurring in the market include a growing use of new I/O technologies, increasing adoption of standards, and increasing use of virtualization. The overarching goal of these changes is to make process safety systems easier to implement and maintain. Applications for virtualization are expanding. There has been significant technical progress in system virtualization, a critical technology that underlies and enables the cloud computing services we now take for granted. In the telecommunication industry, suppliers are now proposing that the dedicated function appliances located at the base of every cellular tower be virtualized. The appliances would thus be replaced by an on-premise cloud system that delivers realtime application services to serve these telecom applications. This strategy, called Network Function Virtualization (NFV), is now a hot topic in cellular telecommunications. The computing equipment used in NFV to virtualize real-time functions in telecommunications could also be used in industrial automation. Such equipment could potentially virtualize many of the applications now running in PLCs or even in redundant DCS controllers. While ARC does not expect the safety market to embrace virtualization of safety logic in the near future, over the long term, it’s possible that virtualization technologies will prove to be robust enough for this type of application. The market is also putting an increased focus on the entire safety lifecycle. More users are beginning to see that most of safety failures come from field devices connected to the safety system rather than the safety system logic itself. This understanding is driving more end users to demand safety lifecycle management software functionalities so they can not only operate their plants safer, but also prove it! ARC is also seeing greater emphasis on “demystifying” safety boxes. End users continue to seek to understand more about how their safety boxes work and look to automation suppliers to provide useful diagnostics software. Regulators are also getting more involved in the safety lifecycle. Rather than just springing into action after an accident has occurred, regulators are becoming more proactive by working with major end users to ensure that they comply with standards and demonstrate understanding of risks and corresponding safeguards to manage/mitigate identified risks before accidents can happen. However, much more still needs to be done to make industry aware of the risk and reduce both the frequency and severity of process safety-related incidents. Positive signs in this direction include the activities of the Chemical Centre for Process Safety sponsored by ADNOC in the Middle East, the Chemical Safety Board in the US, and the Health and Safety Executive in the UK. ARC has recently updated both its market research on this dynamic space for the supplier community and prepared an updated technology evaluation and selection guide for end users.

When a Dream Needs a Gentle Push to Give It Wings-Sponsored by Analytical Division Of ISA Growing up as the youngest child in a family of five, abandoned by your father, neglected by your elder brother and sister, with just your mother who is a day laborer in a physically unwell state of health and with the dreams of one day becoming a Chemistry Professor is really hard. This is exactly the condition of Mohammed Sajib Sheik, a 10 year old boy hailing from a slum in Dhaka, Bangladesh. Sajib’s father abandoned the family a long time ago. His elder brother and sister are both married and living their own happy lives while almost totally neglecting the existence of their own mother and brother. Sajib’s mother, Sofia Begum works as a day laborer to provide for herself and Sajib. But, because of being physically unwell, she isn’t able to go to work daily and so the responsibility of taking care of his mother and himself falls on the meek shoulders of young Sajib. He has to works after school, selling newspapers and water bottles to meet their needs. Like all other kids of his age, Sajib too loves playing cricket. He sings as well. But unlike every other kid whose role model might be a cricketer in this cricket crazy nation, Sajib’s role model is Alfred Bernhard Nobel, the world famous Swedish Chemist and founder of the Nobel Prizes, and hence his love for Chemistry. Once, at school, during a session of Science, the teacher was teaching about mixtures and it was a little above the understanding capabilities of a regular Sixth Grader, but Sajib easily understood the concepts and was given the opportunity to perform experiment in front of the whole class, and that too very successfully. He is passionate about his dreams to become a Chemistry professor one day and that is clearly reflected in his academics. But the only thing in his way to achieve that dream is the current situation he is in. No one to help him progress with his education, no one to guide him and help him plot his next steps 120 Automation

in education. And this is where C2C has come in to help him. C2C has taken Sajib under its wings and are supporting him by providing 1000BDT per month to help take care of their accommodation needs so that he can use the money he earns by himself to help complete his education and pursue his dreams of becoming a Chemistry Professor. C2C has a really good idea of how Sajib should carry on his education so as to achieve his dream. The Bangladeshi educational system is basically divided into 7 levels: •Pre-primary: Play School to Kindergarten •Primary: Grade 1 to Grade 5 •Junior School: Grade 6 to Grade 8 •Secondary School: Grade 9 to Grade 10 •Higher Secondary: Grade 11 and Grade 12 •Bachelor’s Degree: 4 years •Master’s Degree: 1 year According to the above given system, Sajib is now in Junior School and has a minimum of 9 years of education left to finally be able to achieve his dream. As per the Government curriculum, basic Science will be taught to all students from Grade 6 to Grade 8. From Grade 9, Science will be broken down into Physics, Chemistry and Biology. And it is also from Grade 9 that the education stream will be divided into Science, Arts and Commerce and this will be followed up until Grade 12. So, Sajib will have to opt for the Science stream from Grade 9 and then continue his education to attain a Bachelor’s Degree in Chemistry and then opt for a Master’s Degree in Chemistry to increase his chances of becoming a Chemistry Professor. Sajib is currently being sponsored by the Analysis Division of ISA. With a helping and guiding hand behind him, Sajib can easily achieve his dream and build a brighter future for himself and his family.
