Automation Insight! November 2016 Vol. 4 Issue 4 PUBLISHED BY Data Media Systems (for private distribution) President & CEO Mohammed Loch mloch@dmsglobal.net

Dear DMS Members, Four years ago we discussed that the automation industry required a forum in the Middle East like that found in the USA for many years. We were talking about the ISA Automation conference held annually. ISA events have provided our industry with a great platform to share knowledge and connect experts in the field of automation.

Editor-in-Chief Hugh Wingrove hwingrove@dmsglobal.net

Of course, now that the price of oil is staying low, end-users are looking to save money and automation is being considered to help do this by introducing technologies that help to reduce the need for costly human resources and computerised programs that manage assets better. Nothing new here, but the focus is more pronounced now and end-users are starting to see that they need forums that help them with this. However, due to the lower oil prices in the last couple of years it became harder to have a regional event as the End Users cut their travel budgets.

Although all efforts to ensure accurate reporting are taken, some errors may occur. The views and opinions herein are not those of the Publishers. All Rights reserved.

In tough times Automation plays a greater role in Operational Excellence and Optimisation to ensure we get the greatest return for each drop of oil so it was crucial to come up with a platform to keep the Automation Community together if regional events were no longer possible.

DMS ANALYTICS

Bahrain Takes Proactive Measures To Meet Growing LNG Demands During 2011 to 2014, gas demand in Bahrain has risen at an average rate in excess of 2.5% per annum and 95% of that increase has been sourced from the Khuff gas field. Bahrain’s Ministry of Energy foresees that gas demand will only continue to significantly increase over the next few years.

Automation

| NOVEMBER 2016

Therefore, in response to the country’s rising gas demands, Bahrain’s National Oil & Gas Authority (NOGA) and the Oil and Gas Holding Company (NOGAHolding) has expressed their plans to build a Liquefied Natural Gas Receiving and Regasification Terminal to be situated in Hidd Industrial Area. It is essential for Bahrain to have the ability to provide for itself with an alternative to access competitive and economic gas provisions from the global market.

4

The LNG terminal will shape an important part of the energy infrastructure in Bahrain; it will serve as an insurance policy in the event of a gas shortage and it will also have the ability to supplement domestic gas supplies. Moreover, the construction of the LNG terminal would offer Bahrain some security in terms of being able to meet its demand growth for natural gas to fuel large industrial projects, water and power generation, as well as for enhanced oil recovery. NOGA, along with the Oil & Gas Holding Company, have signed project agreements with the joint venture

of Samsung C&T, Teekay LNG Partners and the Gulf Investment Corporation (GIC) during the fourth quarter last year. The development involves constructing an onshore gas receiving facility, an onshore nitrogen production facility, a floating storage unit (FSU), an adjacent regasification platform, an offshore LNG receiving jetty and breakwater, and subsea gas pipelines from the platform to shore. The terminal will have an initial capacity of 400 million standard cubic feet per day (mmscfd), which can be expanded to 800 mmscfd. The project will be developed on a BOOT (Build-Own-Operate-Transfer) basis and the facility will be owned and operated under a twenty year contract agreement that will effective on July 15th, 2018. The project is estimated to cost approximately US$658 million, which will include expenses of project management and development, financing and miscellaneous overheads. The floating storage unit (FSU) will be time chartered from Teekay LNG and the stated expenses will be funded through a consortium of local and international banks. Currently, NOGA and their project associates are in discussions with Korea Trade Insurance Corporation (K-sure) for a $600 million loan to support the project.

The rising threat of competition within the petrochemicals industry has shaken up the GCC market players, enforcing major changes and paradigm shifts. The GCC has always had a stronghold as a net exporter of diesel and petrochemicals to Europe and Asia. However, with the GCC nations focusing on increasing the refining and petrochemical capacity and the stiff competition from emerging players, the region must focus on commercial and operational excellence and product specialisation. Besides entering into the European markets, the expansion in GCC refining capacity will also lead to a surge of product exports to Asia. The Asian refiners will thus face strong competition from GCC producers seeking to penetrate their traditional export markets. Currently, the major refined goods exporters are Russia, the U.S., Singapore, South Korea, China and India. The U.S possesses the biggest refinery capacity in the world with 139 operating refineries. In 2014, the U.S. exported $110 billion worth of refined oil, coming second to Russia which exported oil worth $114.7 billion. U.S. exports of petroleum products have accounted for an increasing share of the global market, rising from 8% in 2009 to 12% in 2014. The global demand for refined fuel oils has increased faster than for other primary petroleum products, encouraging U.S. refiners

to increase production of fuel oils. Moreover, exports of fuel oils tend to have higher profit margins than gasoline. In recent years, U.S. export growth has been strongest in South America and Europe.

DMS ANALYTICS

Global Competition Dampening GCC Petrochemicals China, which has been a net importer of basic petrochemicals, is also undergoing changes, focusing on developing its coal-to-olefins (CTO) technology which will reduce its reliance on imports. The lifting of Iran’s oil sanctions and the country’s ambitious plans to increase its refining capacity will also be a cause for concern to the GCC suppliers. The growing number of new suppliers in the market, while the GCC increases its petrochemicals output, may pose several challenges for the GCC producers. Lower supply of feedstock, as well as an increase in the price, will also affect the competitive power of petrochemical producers in the region and puts additional pressure on their margin. Remaining relevant in the market, while maintaining healthy profit margins would require GCC producers to take fast actions and be increasingly proactive to the changing market. Innovation is prime to ensuring that GCC suppliers do not lag behind the competition as the global markets get increasingly hard to capture and retain.

DMS ANALYTICS

Shah Field To Expand Al Hosn Gas, together with their Shah Gas Development, have marked a new era of gas development in the UAE. The Shah Field is located 210 km southwest of the city of Abu Dhabi. Due to the sour nature of the gas, an implementation of high end, complex technology and processes was required. Due to the large size of the facility, equipment was needed to be installed to effectively overcome the complexity of such a large field. In effect, all of these factors combined have set a new benchmark for the industry’s future developments. With the ability to process approximately 1,000 million standard cubic feet per day (mmscfd) of feed gas, the facility, which is located in the Liwa Western Region, plays a major role within the UAE, as well as the regional economy, through opening doors for further career opportunities and revenue. The Shah Gas Development embraces four main elements, which include, a gas gathering system, main processing facility, product pipelines and the sulphur management system. In early 2016, having reached its full capacity of one billion cubic feet per day, investors and developers saw an opportunity for an expansion of the gas field. With the ability to process 10,000 tonnes of pure granular sulphur per year, the product has been harvested and

transported by rail to the facility at Ruwais for export for the production of fertilizer and sulphuric acid. In 2015 alone, the facility produced approximately 2 million tonnes of sulphur and was forecasted to produce 3.2 million tonnes in 2016. Having seen the tremendous success of the project, Occidental Petroleum has effectively announced their interest in expanding the facility together with ADNOC, by adding approximately 25% to 50% to production. Al Hosn Gas, which is 60% owned by ADNOC and 40% by Occidental Petroleum, is known as the world’s largest ultra-sour gas development and yet it has further plans to expand. The expansion of the development provides a promising investment opportunity for the industry regardless of the current economic turmoil. The need for the expansion is backed up by the strategically growing demand for gas and the plans to decrease the UAE reliance on imported gas. Currently, the well-established Fluor is carrying out the pre-FEED studies for the project, while the project scope details and project name are yet to be finalized. So far, de bottlenecking, facilities expansion, CO2 Compression and installation of pipelines are some of the elements that will be implemented.

Amec Foster Wheeler was contracted to do the feasibility study for the Fifth LPG train in 2008 and were also awarded the front-end engineering design (FEED) contract which was completed in 2012. The first invitations to bid for the Engineering, Procurement & Construction (EPC) were issued in December 2013, however, due to several delays, the tender for the EPC contract was once again issued in December 2014 and was awarded to Tecnicas Reunidas (Spain) in June 2015. They submitted the lowest bid out the four other companies that bid, which were Daelim (South Korea), Petrofac (UK) and GS Engineering and Construction (UAE). Construction on the project began at the end of 2015 and the project is expected to be commissioned in December 2017.

ABB’s Subcontractor, Al Hassan Engineering, is to replace ABB for the completion of SNCP Al Hassan Engineering Co. S.A.O.G. (AHEC) has been awarded a multi-million dollar contract by Petroleum Development Oman (PDO) for the construction and commission of the Saih Nihayda Condensate Stabilization Plant (SNCP) in Oman. The total value of the contract, announced in a filing to the Capital Market Authority (CMA) in late August 2016, is at approximately $20 million with the contract duration planned for 16 months. The scope of the contract also includes some residual Engineering & Procurement for the project.

In July 2012, PDO awarded a $100 million Engineering, Procurement & Construction (EPC) contract to ABB for the development of SNCP.

| NOVEMBER 2016

ABB was also contracted for the project management, testing, and on-site support for operation, and maintenance after start-up.

Other currently ongoing major PDO projects in Saih Nihayda includes Saih Nahaydah Depletion Compression Phase-2 (SNDC2), being executed by Larsen & Toubro Hydrocarbon Engineering, and Condensate Recovery Maximisation project at Saih Nihayda Gas Processing (SNGP) currently under construction by a joint venture of Sener and OHL.

Automation

The new Saih Nihayda Condensate Stabilization Plant will be located near the Saih Nihayda gas plant in the north part of the PDO concession area, and will have the capacity to process 4,500 standard cubic meters of condensate per day when completed in December 2017. The plant will be used as a backup for the existing central processing plant as part of PDO’s goal to sustain gas flows from its main gas production facilities in the north part of the PDO concession area.

The project was originally scheduled to start commercial operation by late 2014. In March 2013, ABB issued a Letter of Intent to Al Hassan Engineering for the construction works for the project. The contract was estimated at $26 million and the duration of the contract was 20 months from the commencement date of 6th April 2013. Works on the project started on schedule, but the project fell behind the schedule in mid 2014 before it was put on hold in mid-2015 followed the suspension of ABB’s contract, which is believed to be suspended by PDO due to problems with the engineering designs and the constant delays in the progress of the project. The project progressed to 65% at the time it was placed on hold. Al Hassan Engineering was instructed by PDO to immediately mobilise all the necessary resources and construction equipment in order to undertake this project on a fast track basis.

By Dinesh Nautiyal Nautiyal is a Technical Manager at Telinstra FZCO, a leading system integrator in automation, instrumentation and and electrical solutions. Power system automation is associated with all the processes involved in the generation and distribution of power. Monitoring and control of power reduces the chances of any power outages and shorten the duration of outages if they occur. The PLCs, RTUs, IEDS, Communication Protocols and communication methods all get associated as a system to perform power system automation. With the advancement in technology the online data from the control devices can be integrated into the SCADA system and various simulations can be performed to determine the appropriate system response to a variety of changes and disturbances by using electrical and physical parameters, loading and generation levels, network topology, and control logics. Power system monitoring & simulation can then determine the source of potential problems and advise on corrective actions to avoid interruptions. The archived historical data from the devices can be used to perform real time system studies which guides the operator to plan ,coordinate and safely perform a task in case of any disruptions. We at Telinstra specializes in providing the power system automation solutions for a broad range of Utilities and oil and gas customers. Our dedicated team specializes in performing the below mentioned system studies. Load Flow Analysis A Load Flow Analysis determines how an electrical system will perform during the normal and emergency operating conditions, thereby providing the information needed to develop equipment specification guidelines, identify transformer tap settings, optimize circuit usage, minimize kW and kVar losses and develop practical voltage profiles. Proper design of electrical systems helps control initial capital investment and future operating costs. The electrical system is appropriately designed to fulfil the desired performance criteria by conducting a Load Flow Analysis using multiple scenarios. Depending on the system configuration, generation and loading conditions, the Load Flow Analysis calculation method is decided.

Relay Coordination / Protective Device Coordination Relay coordination calculation module must consider the operating characteristics of the relays, normal operating and thermal or mechanical withstand characteristics of the equipment’s and must determine the optimum relay settings to achieve the objectives stated to protect the equipment’s and to ensure continuity of power supply to healthy part of network. Motor Starting Studies The motor acceleration system study is an important area in terms of electrical engineering. It evaluates proper starting and running of motors on load with given system inertia without causing tripping or instability in the system. These studies are essential in determining the impact on system voltage during starting and in establishing whether the motor will start satisfactorily and come up to speed. Harmonic Analysis Harmonics in power systems can result in undesirable influence such as Capacitor heating/failure, Telephone interference, Rotating equipment heating, Relay misoperation, Transformer heating, Switchgear failure, Fuse blowing. The main sources of harmonics in power system are static power converters, arc furnaces, discharge lighting and any other load that requires nonsinusoidal current.

| NOVEMBER 2016

Transient Stability The recovery of a power system subjected to a severe large disturbance is of interest to system planners and operators. Typically the system must be designed and operated in such a way that a specified number of credible contingencies do not result in failure of quality and continuity of power supply to the loads. This calls for accurate calculation of the system dynamic behavior.

Automation

Short Circuit Studies A short circuit system study is important in the safe, efficient and economical operation of any electrical power distribution system, ensuring that personnel and equipment are protected by establishing proper interrupting ratings. The consequences, when an electrical fault exceeds the interrupting rating of the protective device, can be really devastating, including injury to personnel, damage to electrical equipment and costly downtime.

Data Analytics

Extracting Greater Value from Big Data in the Oil and Gas Industry In the quest to transform production costs and productivity, the oil and gas industry must master an under-exploited resource: its data. It often takes a crisis to reveal an opportunity. In the recent history of the oil and gas sector there have been few more disruptive events than the end of the commodities super cycle in early 2014, and the prolonged period of lower prices that has followed. Across the industry, producers, equipment suppliers and service providers have scrambled to find ways of reducing costs and improving productivity. For most industry participants, there has been one obvious place to look for such improvements. The current downturn is the first to take place in the era of connected devices, advanced analytics and big data. It’s no surprise, therefore, that there has been an explosion in interest in the potential of these techniques and technologies to address the sector’s challenges. But, with so many providers espousing the capabilities of their offerings – from internet of things (IOT) technologies to large scale data analysis capabilities, smart rooms and digital dashboards – how do companies decide which solutions are likely to deliver the most value to their businesses? Identifying the impact potential

Automation

| NOVEMBER 2016

Part of the answer lies in identifying the largest improvement opportunities. And when the challenge is efficiency that means focussing on the principal sources of loss. Especially in upstream production, this logic is driving companies to look much harder at uptime and reliability. Estimates by the UK Department of Business, Energy and Industrial Strategy, for example, suggest that the two leading sources of efficiency losses in the country’s oil and gas sector are unplanned plant maintenance (46 per cent) and scheduled annual shutdowns (20 per cent).

36

The potential for advanced analytics to address these losses is significant. Research by management consultancy McKinsey & Company estimates that the use of such techniques in predictive maintenance could cut overall maintenance costs by 13 per cent. At one company where maintenance costs accounted for 25 per cent of operating expenses, the consultants note that the introduction of pre-emptive maintenance interventions triggered by smarter data analysis reduced maintenance costs by 27 per cent while simultaneously improving both reliability and uptime.

Transforming data into performance The arguments are compelling, but for many companies, delivering on the potential of big data and advanced analytics has proved to more challenging than expected. The problem isn’t the availability of data. Much of the equipment installed in oil and gas facilities is already equipped with multiple sensors and the network infrastructure required to harvest high volumes of data on operating parameters and reliability. Rather, the challenge is turning these large, complex data streams into actions that deliver robust, sustainable performance improvements. By some estimates, only 1 per cent of the data captured from connected devices on a modern oil and gas platform is used for decision making. At SKF, we have been involved in the application of smart data analysis to industrial challenges for more than 30 years. In our experience, the key to capturing the potential of this lies in a holistic strategy that extends far beyond data collection and analysis. A successful approach must include a rich knowledge infrastructure that allows current data to be evaluated in the context of historic performance and deep application engineering expertise. It requires the right access and visualisation tools to allow operators and maintenance personnel to take timely decisions on the ground. And it calls for the right hardware too, from robust, safe data collection and analysis devices (see box: Data at the front line) to the availability of suitable equipment designs and replacement components to address recurring reliability issues.

Take rotating equipment as an example – we choose this category both because it is a core area of expertise for SKF and because pumps, motors, generators and other rotating machines are probably the biggest drive of maintenance activity on an offshore platform. A digitally enabled preventative maintenance strategy for this kind of equipment starts with the collection of the right data at the right time. That requires an understanding of the key indicators of machine health, like the measurement of temperature and vibration to spot wear, and damage in bearings or shaft misalignment; the correlation between lubricant condition and the underlying causes of failure; or the relationship between current fluctuations and problems in electric motors or in the wider connected machine. When they know what to look for, companies need to select the right data collection strategy, based in the criticality of the assets in question, and the probability of different types of failure. The available strategies range from hand-held, routebased measurements for the routine monitoring of non-essential equipment to permanently installed online sensors for vital assets With the right data acquisition strategy in place, companies next need robust analysis to make

sense of it. Automation has come a long way here, and even hand-held devices can be supplied with algorithms that turn tell-tale indicators in the data into a diagnosis of the underlying issue. And where that diagnosis can’t be made at the front line, the ability to review real time and historical data remotely allows companies to draw upon internal or external expertise to support their operations personnel across the world.

Data Analytics

A turn for the better

At SKF, for example, our experienced condition monitoring remote diagnostic teams work around the clock analysing data from hundreds of assets around the world, from wind energy systems to ships and offshore installations. Their job is to turn data into specific, actionable recommendations for personnel on the ground. From symptom to root cause Timely replacement of a bearing or motor is a hugely valuable way to prevent costly unplanned downtime. But to deliver its full value, the predictive maintenance process should go further. Why did that bearing fail earlier than expected? How could equipment and lubricant specifications or maintenance processes be altered to prevent the same issue happening again? At SKF, that’s where our 100 plus years of experience in the design, maintenance and lifecycle management of equipment comes to the fore.

Data at the front line

Automation | NOVEMBER 2016

A significant challenge in bringing big data to work in oil and gas maintenance has historically been the challenge of providing access to digital tools in hazardous environments. That issue has now been overcome thanks to the availability of tablets and smartphones built to comply fully with industry for intrinsically safe products. SKF, for example, has created a family of smartphones, tablets, peripherals and accessories that are suitable for use in Zone 1/Division 1, Zone 2/Division 2 and harsh environments. The products can be supplied as part of SKF Enlight, a package that includes: Data Collect, a powerful app that turns the tablet or smartphone into a data collection device; and SKF Wireless Machine Condition Detector, a special sensor that measures vibration and temperature data.

37

Data Analytics

Our analysts can identify exactly how and why a bearing fails under a particular set of operating conditions. We can compare the performance of monitored equipment against an unparalleled database of defect rates in real-world applications to identify trends that might indicate underlying issues with specification or maintenance. And once the data has revealed the root cause, we can also suggest solutions to improve the reliability and extend the life of a machine. That might include automated lubrication, a hybrid steel/ceramic bearing for longer operating life, or even the installation of insulated bearings to guard against current leakage from electric motors. In some cases, we have been able to introduce lubricated-for-life SKF bearings with Solid Oil to eliminate a time consuming and difficult routine maintenance activity. From reliability to ROI

Automation

| NOVEMBER 2016

The final, critical role of big data in predictive maintenance and reliability improvement lies in ensuring that the chosen strategy pays – even the most sophisticated monitoring and analytical approach serves no purpose if it costs more than it saves in reduced capex, opex or downtime. To avoid this, companies need tools that can assess the cost of proposed monitoring or upgrade strategies, against their likely return across the full lifecycle of

38

the equipment. It’s something that we now do on a routine basis for an increasing number of customers through our Documented Solutions Programme. Optimizing Oil and Gas Production: Connecting Upstream, Midstream and Downstream Operations

Automation

| NOVEMBER 2016

Today, smart devices – elements of the Internet of Things (IoT) embedded in wellheads, on compressors and pump stations, and within refineries – are yielding a new wealth of operational information. But making sense of that data is another matter. That’s why leading oil and gas companies are taking advantage of advanced analytical software and the industrialization of Ethernet to create The Connected Enterprise. By smoothly integrating information technology with operations technology, oil and gas companies can better leverage the full value of their asset information, and accelerate high-performance petroleum production.

40

The oil and gas industry has entered a transformative era of global competition – what some analysts have labeled the“new oil order.”1 This era is rife with fluctuations, as the global oil and gas landscape continues to shift, leaving much uncertainty for economic projections. Case in point: The resurgence of onshore oil and gas production in North America contributed to a seismic shift in oil and gas supplies. The revolution in shale oil and gas technologies – combined with steady flows from conventional onshore and offshore fields – quickly transformed the United States into the world’s No.1 energy producer. In 2014, American crude and natural gas-liquids production rose to an annual average of 11.7 million barrels a day, exceeding Saudi Arabia’s output (11.6 million barrels).2 In 2014 it was predicted this trend would continue, but

less than a year later, the market saw rapid constriction as oil prices plunged. Today, energy markets continue to experience instability. Despite the downward price pressure triggered by the current supply, producers from Brazil to Bahrain have plenty of reason to keep pumping. The world’s appetite for energy is expected to increase 37 percent by 2040, according to the IEA. European dependence on gas imports is expected to continue to fuel LNG markets. More significantly, improving living standards in growing economies like India and China will increase the need for more output. In China alone, demand is expected to increase by 75 percent by 2035.3

DIGITAL OILFIELDS

The implications of this new oil order extend far beyond the latest fluctuations in the global cost of a barrel. Oil and gas is arguably the world’s most assetintensive industry, and every additional wellhead, pump and compressor raises a company’s operational risk. The potential cost of an equipment failure or operating error has never been higher. The industry average for a single hour of downtime is $1 million4, while a major event like the Deepwater Horizon oil spill could swipe $40 billion or more from a producer’s balance sheet. The nature of the new oil order has put new pressures on each major sector of the oil and gas industry. Upstream production is increasingly fragmented because new reserves often lie in far-flung locations. That widening geographic distance, coupled with the unprecedented surge in supply, has put new pressures on the midstream market, increasing the need for more and safer pipelines, and other types of petroleum transport and storage. Finally, refineries are facing unprecedented process changes as they adapt to distilling fuels and other products from more and different feed stocks.

A few examples:

t *OTUFBE PG NBOVBMMZ DIFDLJOH PO SFNPUF wellheads, pump stations and storage sites, operators are using remote-monitoring technology designed for oil and gas applications. Combining sensors and cellular or wireless connections, this technology offers producers the ability to supervise their wells As with manufacturing, telecommunications and and other operations from a single, centralized other major industries, the search for solutions is – and safe – location.

These dynamics – combined with tightening environmental regulations globally and a shrinking pool of skilled, in-house expertise – are forcing oil and gas companies to find new ways to enhance recovery, optimize processes, increase efficiencies and contain costs.

leading to a boom in digital technologies. Today, operational technology (OT) led by integrated control and information solutions, including smart devices – elements of the Internet of Things (IoT) embedded in wellheads, on compressors and pump stations, and within refineries – are converging with information technology (IT) to enable enterprise connections that yield a new wealth of data.

t 6QUJNF JT FWFSZUIJOH JO UIF SFĂśOJOH CVTJOFTT So many petrochemical facilities are investing in industrial Ethernet-enabled control systems that transport diagnostic data from process units to the operations view, notifying staff about critical predictive maintenance needs.

Automation | NOVEMBER 2016

Leading oil and gas companies are taking advantage of innovations in industrial Ethernet-based connectivity and advanced analytical software to better leverage the full value of their asset data, and accelerate highperformance petroleum production. Realizing The Connected Enterprise has become a business imperative. As the benefits from the convergence of automation, communications and information technology multiply, oil and gas companies are creating digital oilfields, pipelines and refineries. Wireless technology, visualization software and other advances now allow oil and gas companies to access and monitor assets in real time, and help merge disparate oilfield data into streams of actionable information – anywhere, anytime.

t 0QFSBUJPOT NBOBHFNFOU TPMVUJPOT IFMQ PJM and gas producers optimize production in real time by gathering, analyzing, contextualizing and sharing information. By pairing production intelligence with intuitive dashboards and historian functionality, operationsmanagement systems can automatically collect production data, calculate KPIs and present displays that facilitate fast reading of critical operational information.

41

DIGITAL OILFIELDS

Global-Size Challenges Oil is the world’s most commonly traded commodity, and with good reason. Despite the rise in alternative energy resources, fossil fuels will supply almost 80 percent of world energy use through 2040.5 Since the earliest days of drilling, oil and gas has remained among the most capital-intensive industries. The number of assets has quickly multiplied in the last decade with advances in deep-water drilling, and the advent of unconventional oil and gas extraction techniques used to squeeze out resources in areas previously considered impossible to access. Automation has helped increase recovery rates at many wells previously believed to be dry. Meanwhile, energy companies have implemented instrument asset-management systems with the promise of optimizing their production by improving uptime.

Automation

| NOVEMBER 2016

However, the energy industry has tended to lag other industries in the area of asset performance. When heavy industry firms are viewed on a global basis, world-class operations achieve an Overall Equipment Effectiveness (OEE) score of 91 percent. Historically, oil and gas producers have been 10 or more percentage points behind this average.6

42

t *ODSFBTJOH SFHVMBUPSZ QSFTTVSFT &YQBOEJOH HMPCBM regulations regarding the environment and safety are making compliance increasingly complex for the oil and gas industry. Energy companies continue to face intense scrutiny from government and consumers demanding stricter oversight to prevent environmental damage and protect lives. t (SPXJOH TLJMMT HBQ 5IF QPPM PG IJHIMZ TLJMMFE PJM and gas professionals is shrinking as more and more edge toward retirement. Meanwhile, fewer young professionals are in the pipeline for these high-demand jobs. A sign of the times: 22 percent of oil and gas respondents to a recent Ernst & Young survey said a lack of qualified personnel is already impacting their operations.

A major reason: The ability of many oil and gas companies to collect, share and decisively act on information has been hobbled by conglomerations of unconnected legacy equipment, siloed proprietary t )FJHIUFOFE TFDVSJUZ SJTLT 5IF XPSME T FOFSHZ networks and various vendor databases. Meanwhile, the rise of U.S. oil and gas production has How can oil and gas companies effectively tackle spurred a dramatic expansion of the nation’s pipeline these challenges? Automation are also an integral part of remote pipeline communications for many oil and gas companies. Embedded with Ethernet connectivity, they send and receive vital information about the condition of pump and compressor motors. If a compressor motor is running too high, for example, the drive will send a signal to central control, where operators can remotely throttle back the power. Preventing potentially dangerous pipeline blowouts carries huge operational and safety benefits.

Rockwell Automation also helps oil and gas companies deploy manufacturing execution system (MES) software, which can analyze the current status of production and make decisions on how to optimize operations in real time. Using these best-practice, proven and repeatable solutions, downstream, midstream and Remote-monitoring technology is also helping upstream operations can take advantage of advances bridge the oil and gas skills gap by allowing companies in technologies like open-standard IoT devices, big data to fully utilize their best in-house – as well as third-party and analytics, virtualization and mobility, and cloud – expertise. DIGITAL OILFIELDS

In most cases, this means following a “defense-indepth strategy that addresses internal and external security threats. This is based on the premise that any single point of protection or individual firewall could be penetrated by the persistent attacker over time. The most effective defensive solution is to erect multiple layers of defense, including physical, electronic and procedural. Under this approach, security is built into the infrastructure and becomes a set of layers within the overall network security. Any single point of penetration can be backstopped by different variables of capabilities provided by the other layers. Improving Upstream Performance - Connecting Production Advanced connected technology from Rockwell Automation is helping upstream oil and gas operations pull as much oil and gas from reservoirs as possible, while increasing efficiencies and safety. This industry-specific application of The Connected Enterprise is being called Connected Production by Rockwell Automation. Gas lift is one of the methods used to improve recovery from older fields. These systems are designed to automatically sense and control the wellhead variables of a gas lift production site.

gather communication and results for analysis, such as trending of flow data which can be particularly useful in the early detection of well problems. To help optimize production, gas lift systems feature ultralow power consumption and lightweight subassemblies. A built-in solar panel can drive an active production well for up to seven cloudy days, making the unit especially attractive in remote areas where electric power is not available and portability is important. Rockwell Automation is working with one of the world’s largest oil and gas companies in developing autonomous drilling-control systems. These are designed for low-cost land drilling in unconventional plays, where development involves thousands of the same kind of wells. A supervisory control and data acquisition (SCADA) system monitors drilling parameters, determines appropriate controls that need to be communicated back to the rig, and navigates the course of the wellbore. Using Rockwell Automation controllers and software, the system requires only a small number of highly trained operators in a centralized location. Via a satellite link, operators can view the drilling sites on computer screens, and override the automatic controls to improve drilling efficiency or make other corrections. Besides decreasing the number of days required to complete a well, autonomous drilling reduces worker exposure to on-site hazards.

Solutions that advance The Connected Enterprise have helped streamline and better secure midstream operations, including an essential corner of the oil business – hydrocarbon transfers. Hydrocarbon operations are spread far and wide, often in remote areas. Either on wellheads, storage tanks, pipeline inlets or terminals, buyers and sellers gain unattended access to oil supplies through a LACT unit. Until recently, accounting for these buyer/seller transfers has been a far less sophisticated process. Most LACT units have little automation and even less network connectivity. In fact, most rely on paper-based tickets that buyers drop into a mailbox that stands next to the unit.

more recently, changing feed stocks has required many refinery owners to repeatedly invest in infrastructure upgrades. Today, many of those projects include smart devices and controls that help reduce unplanned downtime, improve preventive maintenance and give efficiencies without adding workers. As oil refineries and gas processing plants begin to migrate legacy process control equipment, producers should consider a modern approach to migration. This approach delivers all the core capabilities of a traditional DCS to address the process control requirements, but is built on modern technology that easily integrates with other ancillary automation systems and critical business systems. Built using scalable, plantwide control technologies, a modern DCS, integrates process, discrete, power, safety and motor control to improve productivity, reduce unplanned downtime and lower total cost of ownership.

By Eric C. Cosman, Contributing Consultant, ARC Advisory Group Process safety and cybersecurity are distinctly different disciplines, but there is growing realization across industry that they are related. Both are concerned with awareness, anticipation, and prevention of and response to unexpected events that can compromise the reliability and, ultimately, the performance of the manufacturing process. Specifically, today’s industrial organizations face the common imperative of determining the appropriate response for each combination of desired security and safety for various parts of their industrial control systems. International standards committees such as ISA84 and ISA99 are collaborating to develop information in this area that will appear in their respective standards (ISA-84 and ISA-62443). In the meantime, preliminary guidance is available, as well as opportunities for stakeholders to help shape this discussion. Current Situation Safe and reliable operation is an imperative for industrial processes. Operations personnel often refer to safety as “priority one, two and three.” As a result, process safety has become an established discipline in industry. In the process industries, standards and practices such as the ISA84 and IEC 61511 series’ provide requirements for specifying, de-signing, installing, operating, and maintaining a safety instrumented system (SIS). These provide a high degree of confidence that the SIS can maintain or place a process in a safe state. Certification is also available for safety-related systems. Effective cybersecurity is also essential for safe industrial operations. Inadequate attention to cybersecurity can in fact lead to compromises in process sasafety.

As these standards are applied, there is a growing acceptance of the fact that a cybersecurity-related compromise in the operation of industrial control systems can undermine the basic assumptions used in the design of safety systems and procedures for operation and maintenance. This distinguishes industrial cybersecurity deliberations from those used for IT cybersecurity programs, which focus on confidentiality and privacy. Complementary but Distinct Perspectives The process safety and cybersecurity disciplines each have specific perspectives on the challenges associated with the design of industrial control and safety systems. Industrial control systems are designed for safe operation. Designers perform extensive hazard analyses and safety systems are deployed to limit the impact of operator errors, device failures, and control malfunctions. The cybersecurity perspective includes consideration and analysis of new, non-deterministic challenges associated with the information and commu-nications technologies that are at the heart of modern control systems. Protecting IT-based control and safety equipment generally requires special products and compensatory controls. Training automation personnel to use and maintain this new technology is another hurdle that must be overcome. While distinct, these perspectives are complementary in that they both focus on achieving safe and reliable operations. This “shared vision” forms the basis for collaboration between these disciplines.

Process Performance, Safety, and Security Essential for Plant Reliability

Automation

Most industrial facilities employ a variety of information technology (IT)IT-based products within systems designed to control and protect dangerous processes and equipment. It is essential to protect these systems from cybersecurity-related threats that could potentially impact the operations and information security of an industrial facility. The ISA/IEC 62443 series of standards and practices defines requirements and procedures for implementing electronically secure manufacturing and control systems and security practices and assessing electronic security performance. Several cybersecurity-related compliance specifications are also available.

INDUSTRIAL CONTROL SYSTEM CYBER SECURITY

A Coordinated Response The recognition and understanding of this shared vision has led to in-creased collaboration and coordination between these disciplines. This has extended beyond the bounds of traditional industrial automation into the area of the Industrial Internet of Things. The Industrial Internet Consortium has broadened the view of the relationship to consider five essential elements of trustworthiness. t 4BGFUZ t 4FDVSJUZ t 3FTJMJFODF t 1SJWBDZ t 3FMJBCJMJUZ The collaboration required to address each of these imperatives takes several forms. Several companies that were previously focused on process safety- related services have expanded their offerings to include a parallel set of cybersecurity services. The committees responsible for the ISA84 (process safety) and ISA/IEC62443 (cybersecurity) standards have aligned working groups addressing the overlap between security and safety. In the International Electrotechnical Commission (IEC), an ad-hoc group is currently investigating options for addressing this subject. These and other efforts have identified specific areas where safety and security are related. Risk Assessment and Response Whether addressing safety or security, it is first necessary to identify the specific risks as well as the approaches for their mitigation.

Safety Integrity and Security Levels Another area of similarity between the safety- and cybersecurity-related disciplines is the use of levels to identify the degree of response required in a specific situation. The safety integrity level (SIL) concept is well established and described in the ISA84 and IEC 61511 standards. The concept of security levels is fundamental to applying the ISA/IEC 62443 standards for cybersecurity. However, because of the lack of deter-minism in cybersecurity-related threats, these levels are more qualitative than those used for describing safety. It is now possible to address the relationship between safety and security levels and to determine the design and operations measures required. This is also an area of common focus between these two disciplines. Safety

Process safety experts have extensive experience using methods such as process hazard analysis (PHA) and layers of protection analysis (LOPA) when designing safety-related systems. Designing secure systems also requires a n analysis of hazard analysis, followed by the application of defense-in-depth and system segmentation, similar in concept to LOPA.

50

Each of the above processes are applied within the context of a relevant life cycle for the system under consideration. Recent work by the ISA84 and ISA99 committees has resulted in the development of a common version of this life cycle that can be used for both safety- and security-related analysis. A technical report on this topic is currently available from the ISA84 committee. Elements of this analysis will also form part of the description of life cycle as a fundamental concept at the foundation of the ISA/IEC-62443 standards in industrial automation and control systems security.

INDUSTRIAL CONTROL SYSTEM CYBER SECURITY

Malware You Should Be Concerned About

Automation

| NOVEMBER 2016

Due to the continued migration to connected industrial control systems (ICS) with business infrastructure networks, it is now a reality that ICS can be targeted by those who would do harm to such critical systems. Malware like Stuxnet, Flame, Duqu, Sahmoon, Gauss and new malware like Black Energy, Havex, and most recently Mirai have shown that it is no longer a theoretical threat. ICS cyber-attacks represent a real risk of doing business in an increasingly integrated world of IT. ICS that are connected to digital information networks can be vulnerable to cyber-attacks whose potential impacts range from nuisance trips, to loss of production, to significant damage to plant and equipment.

52

Havex malware is a remote access tool, or RAT. It is related to the SYSMain RAT and may actually be a derivative. Havex, like many malware tools is inserted typically using a phishing campaign, a watering hole attack, or by inclusion in an exploit kit. This malware is of particular interest because it takes advantage of classic OPC (OLE for Process Control) servers. OPC is the backbone of many industrial control system’s communications and is also common for communications to historians. So, now we have malware that is deliberately targeting control systems used in industrial applications and commercial applications like

building automation and access control systems. Once the attacker has remote control of the system, it is very hard to predict what the attacker might actually do next. Next, we have Mirai (meaning future in Japanese), a nasty piece of malware that appears to be very active. It is currently causing massive internet problems while I write this article. The Internet of Things (IoT) often were built with minimal security to make them easy to apply and most end users never changed the default usernames and passwords. If passwords were used, they are often weak and therefore easy to attack and break, even the passwords that were changed. Krebs on Security may have rang the bell to warn others about the IoT security threats and then they fell victim to the devices themselves in a denial of service (DDoS) attack by Miria. This attack is continuing even though Krebs is getting help from Google. It now is affecting thousands of websites because the attackers pointed the devices at a major internet DNS provider, Dyn. The attack is affecting major sites including GitHub, Twitter, Netflix, Airbnb and many others. The Mirai malware appears to be hacking Linux based embedded controllers. It appears to be continually scanning the network and infecting IoT devices where

You may not be concerned about this newest malware, but you should be. There is nothing to stop Mirai from initiating a DDoS attack from inside of a facility using all the IoT type devices plugged into Ethernet on your business side of the firewall protecting you from the Internet. This is why industrial cybersecurity professionals make recommendations for defense in depth strategies like placing a firewall between the control systems and business systems. I leave you with a horrifying thought, Moore’s Law also applies to the bad guys as much as it does any other computing technology. Anything I write in an article like this will change rapidly as the computing power increases. Bad guys can turn on microphones and cameras on cell phones and computers already. They want to be able to break encryption. Shrinking ever more powerful computing platforms, provides the ability to embedd sophisticated computing power in any device wired or wireless. The problem is so vast and expanding, that the solution might ultimately be something entirely different than what is considered good defense in depth today.

the common factory username and password are used. If the device is taken offline, rebooted, and the username and password changed before placing it back into service it appears to fix the problem. If this isn’t done correctly, it will be hacked again by the malware.

For instance, in 2015, UAE lifted fuel subsidies, to direct the savings towards financing transport and infrastructure projects. The country also announced plans to introduce a value added tax of 5% in 2018, with exemptions on food items, healthcare and education. Moreover, many national oil and gas companies within the UAE are also laying off their workforce as personnel budgets tighten.

However, despite certain setbacks, the UAE continues to grow and remain resilient. UAE’s GDP has doubled in the past 10 years, from $180.5 billion to $370 billion. The public sector’s contribution to the GDP has also increased in the past 10 years by 273%, while foreign direct investment has also more than doubled from $49 billion to $111 billion. With 40% of UAE’s Gross Domestic Product (GDP) comprising of Oil and Gas output, the country is highly vulnerable to the changing market dynamics. Possessing the seventh largest crude oil reserves globally (97,800 million barrels), UAE is among the top producers and exporters of oil. In 2015, the total crude oil production in the country amounted to 2,988.9 barrels per day, while the gas production was about 60,181.0 million cubic metres. In terms of exports, in 2015, 2,441.5 barrels per day of crude oil had been exported and 13,200 million cubic metres of natural gas was exported.

ADNOC PAVING THE WAY

Automation

| NOVEMBER 2016

With the new reigning leadership and a huge culture shift, ADNOC is moving towards higher efficiency and productivity. One of the biggest changes made include the consolidation of ADNOC’s subsidiaries Zakum Development Company (ZADCO) and the Abu Dhabi Marine Operating Company (ADMA-OPCO) which account for most of Abu Dhabi’s offshore oil production, which is expected to reach 1.7 million barrels per day by 2017. The consolidation is a move towards ensuring focus on driving efficiency, performance and profitability. The two companies will be merged into "NewCo".

64

Currently, ADNOC has 14 subsidiary companies working in various fields of the oil, gas and petrochemical industry as well as crude oil and gas, transport and services.

UPCOMING PROJECTS ADNOC is planning the development of a major oil and gas field with 5 trillion cubic feet of natural gas that have been left undeveloped. Occidental Petroleum Corporation has joined forces with ADNOC to conduct exploration of the offshore field located north of Ruwais. The field, which contains 1.1 billion barrels of recoverable oil in addition to the

gas, has been a major attraction for many investors. Nonetheless there are several factors influencing the smoothness of development which need to be taken into consideration such as the environmental aspects and marine life in the area as well as field's location situated in concession areas of ADMA-OPCO, ZADCO, Exxon Mobil as well as ADOC. Abu Dhabi Oil Company Limited (ADOC) is developing the Hail offshore oilfield in Abu Dhabi, to increase current production and secure safe production for 30 years. The Hail offshore oilfield is located adjacent to ADOC’s existing operating field and includes undeveloped reservoirs, with the maximum oil production from these reservoirs anticipated to be similar to the current production rate of the existing oil fields. ADNOC has partnered with Korea National Oil Corporation (KNOC) and GS Energy to secure rigs for three appraisal wells which are planned to be installed at the Haliba field on the Omani border, once the project’s design phase is completed. In 2010, ADNOC and OXY had partnered to create Al Hosn Gas (Abu Dhabi Gas Development Ltd) as a subsidiary of ADNOC to develop the sour gas reservoirs located in the Shah Field onshore of Abu Dhabi. Currently, Al Hosn Gas is planning a new expansion of the Shah Sour Gas Field, with its name and scope yet to be determined.

EXPO 2020 LEADING TO GROWTH IN CONSTRUCTION AND INFRASTRUCTURE Construction, infrastructure and real estate industries are major contributors to UAE’s economy, after hydrocarbons, and they continue to grow as investments within these sectors are expected to increase in the coming years. The construction sector is estimated to increase its output value at a compound annual growth rate (CAGR) from 3.55% (2010-2014) to 6.52% (2015-2019). In 2016 alone, the construction industry is projected to have an annual growth of 6.6%. While the total value of the industry is forecasted to increase up to $49.2 billion in 2016 from $44.1 billion in 2015. The boom in infrastructure development may well be credited to the UAE winning the bid to host World 2020 Expo, along with the growing tourism industry. Following the Expo 2020 win, Dubai Municipality announced plans to build a 1,082 acres site at Dubai World Trade Centre, Jebel Ali, a plot of land located

Besides the main Expo infrastructure, various other related projects are also been developed in preparation for the Expo, specifically in residential and commercial real estate as tourism is projected to grow at about 9% annually by 2020. Other major infrastructure projects also include the $33 billion expansion of Al Maktoum International Airport which is currently in construction phase. Dubai’s Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) plans

DMS PROJECTS

to develop a new $2.7 billion metro line, as a part of Dubai metro that will serve the Expo 2020 site next to Al Maktoum International airport in Jebel Ali. Referred to as Route 2020, the project involves building a 15-kilometre-long line branching off the existing Red Line at Nakheel Harbour and Tower station between Ibn Battuta Mall and Jumeirah Lake Towers stations.

GROWTH OUTLOOK

at an equal distance from Abu Dhabi and Dubai city centres and near Dubai's new Al Maktoum International Airport and Jebel Ali Port. The $7 billion site will incorporate a mixture of education, innovation and entertainment developments revolving around the Expo 2020 concept. Expo 2020 is expected to bring in about 25 million visitors to Dubai during the 6 months of the hosting period.

The growth outlook for the UAE seems quite positive despite certain challenges. In the coming years, construction, infrastructure and gas will continue to remain the biggest economic drivers and contributors. Restructuring of the oil sector will be one of the major priorities aimed at reducing costs. UAE is also expected to outgrow the other regional economies, though overall the MENA region will experience its weakest growth since the 1980s.

A Bangladeshi sporting legend is supporting a project set up by an Etihad cabin crew member to help children in Dhaka escape life in the slums. Former test cricket captain Mushfiqur Rahim visited the Choice to Change (C2C) school this week along with a team of Etihad volunteers to lend their support to the school’s efforts. Slovakian Eva Kernova founded the C2C to support 25 children in a ramshackle school after visiting slums during a flight layover. Since then, the school has attracted more than 1,000 visitors, including almost 600 cabin crew from Emirates and Etihad, to help the charity school grow. It is now one of the few English teaching schools in the region, and is giving youngsters a rare chance to escape a life of child labour and dream of breaking out of communities where the average wage is US$400 a year. “Our introduction to Mushfiqur Rahim came through a family friend and quite randomly,” said Ms Kernova, who jointly founded the project with a friend, Sunil Baroi, six years ago. “We were as surprised as the children were that our family friend made the introduction and that Mushfiq was kind enough to agree to it. “Mushfiq doesn’t have a formal role, but his presence at the C2C annual picnic last week certainly did a lot to inspire the children and staff and created lifetime memories.” The school will have its first graduating class at the end of this academic year, when the oldest children, now in their early teens, will sit the Grade 5 government exam, which could allow them to pursue secondary education or vocational training if they pass. So far, the school has outperformed the national average in two key areas – fewer drop-outs and in English language. Overall, fewer than 5% drop out, compared to a national average of about 25% between grades five and six and 10 to 15% from Grades 1 to 5. Etihad joined the project by offering staff free flights every two months to visit the

school, as well as donating from its guest air miles scheme to pay for a bus to transport children from the slum into the school.

DMS CSR - C2C

Bangladesh Cricket Hero and Etihad Crew Bat for Slum Children

Mohammed Loch, Ms Kernova’s charity partner, said “The increasing numbers of airline staff wanting to visit the school on stop-offs is helping raise the project’s profile, and encouraging more donors to get involved.” “C2C is the only slum school in Dhaka that is teaching everyone English, and that is making a huge difference,” he said. “With the benefit of 1,000 visitors since it started, the children can now speak fluent English and are super confident.” The C2C school is officially registered as a Bangladesh nongovernment organisation and is in the process of registering as a UK charity to access potential donors in Europe and elsewhere. Several institutions have lent their assistance to C2C, including auditor KPMG. The next phase of growth will involve firmly establishing funds for the school’s sustainability, from corporate and individual sources all over the world. That, in turn, will encourage children to have the best chance of a successful transition into the workplace. “These kids have been taught all their lives they are going to be workers. To see their options open up with an education is massive for them,” Mr Loch said.

THE CHOICE TO CHANGE

WHO WE ARE? C2C is a non-profit organisa on bringing educa on to the poorest children of Dhaka providing them a chance to break the cycle of poverty. We are commi ed to improving the lives of these children and invite others to join our mission and make a choice to change.

Our 100% model

Outcomes

The children are taught the na onal curriculum in English – the first school in the slums doing this. We focus on a curriculum that gives them the highest chance of earning an income when they leave the school in order to break the cycle of poverty.

| NOVEMBER 2016

WHY C2C?

Partners

We partner with a variety of organisa ons and volunteers. On average the children get access to about 150 volunteer visits per year, improving their self-confidence and self-esteem and benefiting both the children and the volunteers

Automation

Our opera ng costs are covered separately, so 100% of funds and supplies donated for the school can go directly to help the children and their families.

Educa on is the key to improving the lives of these children and their families. Without this help they would be confined to a life of child labour or worse and will remain vulnerable. C2C is commi ed to improving their lives one child at a me and in so doing help hundreds more.

C C2C - 77 THE CHOICE TO CHANGE

WHO WE ARE? C2C is a non-proďŹ t organisa on bringing educa on to the poorest children of Dhaka providing them a chance to break the cycle of poverty. We are commi ed to improving the lives of these children and invite others to join our mission and make a choice to change.

Outcomes

Our 100% model

The children are taught the na onal curriculum in English – the ďŹ rst school in the slums doing this. We focus on a curriculum that gives them the highest chance of earning an income when they leave the school in order to break the cycle of poverty.

Our opera ng costs are covered separately, so 100% of funds and supplies donated for the school can go directly to help the children and their families.

Partners

We partner with a variety of organisa ons and volunteers. On average the children get access to about 150 volunteer visits per year, improving their self-conďŹ dence and self-esteem and benefiting both the children and the volunteers

WHY C2C?

Educa on is the key to improving the lives of these children and their families. Without this help they would be conďŹ ned to a life of child labour or worse and will remain vulnerable. C2C is commi ed to improving their lives one child at a me and in so doing help hundreds more.
