Vertiheat
The vertical filtration kettle and smart mug system
Jaiye Akinosho
BA (Hons) Product Design E: jaiyey7@gmail.com I: @designjaiye W: https://jaiyedesign.wixsite. com/portfolio/ I am a young and enthusiastic creative designer. I have an interest in CAD modelling and a strong passion for visual design and aesthetics. Design will always be at the forefront of my mind.
The Vertiheat is a vertical filtration kettle and smart mug system that keeps drinks warm wirelessly. The Vertiheat saves water by making sure users only boil the amount of water that is needed for their hot drink. The product utilises Wireless charging to power a smart mug and coaster that keeps a drink warm up to 60 degrees over an hour period. “75% of households in the UK also overfill their Kettles” It is the first that reduces water consumption and helps reduce the amount of times users reheat drinks and boil kettle’s in a day.
03
“Prevents overfilling and boils all water that is filled in the jug” Vertiheat features fast boiling and combines a Brita water filtration to reduce limescale build up and provide cleaner water for consumption. It also prevents overfilling and boils all water that is filled in the jug. The wireless charging smart mug allows users to keep drinks warm for an extended amount of time whilst allowing a variable temperature setting specific to the drink that is in the mug.
UX-UI-SX The Vertiheat’s features and clean aesthetics ensure the product is easy to use. The removable Brita filling chamber makes it simple for users to fill and filter water with ease without opening or touching flaps. The boiling and dispensing is also a breeze with just three buttons being “BOIL, POUR and RELEASE”. This boils water, Pours the mug and then releases the Kettle should it need to be cleaned or moved.
Vertiheat app The Vertiheat app Allows users to analyse their boiling statistics and look at ways to improve consumption. The App also allows users to learn and experience new drinks and even select boiling settings and mug temperatures from the App. Users can also order and recieve discounts on new filters via the app.

Communal Plastic Granulator
A More Efficient, Modular, Waste Collection System
Nathan Almond
BA (Hons) Product Design E: nathanalmond98@gmail.com M: 07923510632 I: @na_des1gn A motivated and passionate designer that has the aspiration to create sustainable, user centred products, that implement postive behaviour changes.
The Granulator creates an Urban Mining system, within a community, for better efficiency in the plastic recycling process. The machine will situate within Supermarkets and Shops. Users are engaged by an incetivised return policy. A QR code will identify the material and proportions of the waste item and which module the item belongs. Shredded or not, the waste can now be collected, identified and taken to the correct re-processor, removing the lengthy and expensive operation of a Mixed Recycling Facility.
05
At the beginning of 2020, the government set out a series of reforms of “immediate priority”. The device can support the set up of a system in collaboration with government and reprocessors to reduce the use of unnecessary and difficult to recycle packaging. The incentive can be favoured more to the plastics that are easier to recycle and re-purpose. Influencing a positive behaviour change within consumers.
Between EUR 70 and 105 billion annually, is lost to the economy after a very short first-use cycle. As part of government’s “immediate priority” intentions they aspire producers to fund the management of the end of life of their packaging. Situating this in stores adheres to this requirement, as well as using urban mining to reduce losses from the short, first-use cycle.
Recycling helps to clean up our natural environment and prevents waste exiting the collection schemes. Involving the consumer within the seperation process educates through visual and physical activity. Seperation first at home and then defining in store, intrinsically and naturally informs the user of materials and their values.

Safety Knife Safe Learning
Sebastian Bartoszek BA (Hons) Product Design
E: Sebastianbart410@gmail.com M: 07925600718
Tech orientated individual which always looks out for new innovations and ground breaking technology.
‘Safety Knife’ is a new way of learning how to use a knife in a safe manner.
The safety knife uses NFC technology to allow children cut only when in the proximity of the cutting board. The knife provides a safe learning environment. It is easy to use and with the help of sensors which are onboard the knife, the knife can retract the blade in case the NFC chip is too far. This means the knife can not be used anywhere else other than the cutting board.
13
The issue
In schools there has been an increase in both knife accidents and knife crimes. Schools are struggling to make schools 100% safe as the trend of pupils defending themselves with knifes has increased by 7% in the last 12 months.
Development
I have researched and found technology which allows for a blade to be ejected from its casing only when used properly. I have looked into many different solutions which would eject a blade from its casing and I used the most appropriate one.
Result
The final result was a Safety Knife which uses NFC technology to detect when a blade is near the chip in order to eject it and allow for normal use. As soon as the blade is out of proximity of the NFC chip the blade retracts back to its guard.

GO
Sustainable transport for home to school trips
Monika Basara
BA (Hons) Product Design E: monika.basara@op.pl M: 07378421330 I: monikabasara.wixsite. com/design My passion lies in creating vibrant aesthetics and user interaction focused design. I am a self driven, creative designer with an artistic background. I learn through working and I always make all - out effort.
“GO is a foldable, electric scooter designed to be used by a parent with child for everyday home to school trips. A convenient, sustainable and quick way of transport in cities. The scooter is ergonomically designed for two people. The base is wider and longer. The three wheels provides a better stability and comfort. The front frame protects the child and allows to transport the backpack at the front.
15
The average length of trip to school is around 1,6 miles and 46% of them is taken by car. Only 3% of trips home to school for primary school kids are made by bicycle. It is because 88% of them are accompanied by an adult and regular bicycle does not provide space for 2 people and a backpack. That increases the emission of air pollution as well as traffic cognition.
Ergonomics and user interaction. The user interaction has been carefully considered which resulted in adding features like adjustable handlebars for a child and elastic band attachment for a backpack. The scooter folds manually without any extra tools to a compactable size. The ergonomic challenge has been approached through the range of models and testing.
Technology and visual comunication. The product is fully electric powered by rechargeable lithium ion battery which converts and stores kinetic energy during acceleration into electrical power. The visual language aims to present a sense of safety and rigidity. The key interaction features has been highlighted by a colour for better affordance.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9W0Z1qykeSo
Technology Vizer utilises the 40 degree FOV waveguide module from WaveOptics to provide the augmented reality display. The image is projected at a focal length of infinity so that the user can focus on the environment without being distracted. Triple fisheye cameras and IR sensor SLAM modules read the environment and a 4000 mAh battery powers the helmet for up to 5 hours at a time.
Modular Design Using a system of rails and clips the display and battery pack can be easily removed from the helmet by the user. This means that the helmet can be used without the hardware as a basic helmet, or if the helmet was to be damaged, the user can easily return the damged helmet to be recycled without having to pay the full costs for new hardware.
Customisation The interface is controlled through an app. The user can customise the interface completely to their preference and riding style. The helmet utilises the users smart phone as the computer. This means that unlike other AR devices, the helmet isn’t chip locked so has a longer life span and is much cheaper to manufacture and purchase.

Doberman
Public Motorcycle Security
Kieran Brown
BA (Hons) Product Design E: kieran.brown@manx.net M: 07599 637625 W: https://kieranbrown87. wixsite.com/website Design is vital to social and environmental change for the better. Good design should be a harmony of innovation, function, user experience, aesthetics and performance.
Doberman allows motorcycle riders to park and secure their bikes when out and about in public Doberman offers a new solution to motorcycle owners wanting to protect their machines when parking in public. Along with the partner mobile application, Doberman allows users to park easily, secure the front wheel using a 14mm case hardened steel chain, and employ moving angle grinder-proof shields that protect the chain and prevent the front wheel from being removed.
19
40,000 motorcycles are stolen in the UK each year - More than is bought new Motorcycle theft is a massive global issue, with many motorcycle owners unaware of how best to protect their machines. Employing any form of security helps deter theft, with higher quality and more expensive products then adding time and difficulty to the theft.
Motorcycle owners in the UK face a 3.2% chance of being the victim of theft each year Encouraging motorcycle owners to use any form of security is vital to deterring and reducing the number of thefts. Doberman offers an easy to use experience that provides a far safer space to park, without having to carry impractically large and heavy security products with you.
An average motorcycle theft takes only 20 seconds to complete No security is invincible. It would not be remotely practical or cost effective to make something such. However, most opportunist thieves only target unprotected machines. Using a Doberman unit will greatly reduce the chances of theft.

Purrfect Brush
Multifunctional Pet Brush
Janis Chan
BA (Hons) Product Design E: jan.ym@outlook.com I: https://ms-jan.wixsite. com/janisdesign A young multicultural designer with the passion of creating user-centered innovations that leaves less impacts on the environment.
“Reducing pet allergens by spraying anti-alergen solution while massaging the skin. it is estimated that 1 in 3 people in the UK suffer from pet allergic reactions. Pet allergies can also be developed at any stage of life. Through reducing the pet fur and dander by regular brushing and spraying anti-allergens solution, the exposure to allergens will be limited which eases the allergic reaction to the household members or home visitors. It also helps spreading fewer pet allergens to public areas.
23
Exposure to it can also trigger lung diseases. spraying anti-allergen solutions with the ultrasonic atomizer installed in the brush, not only would it not scare off the pets, but the mild wetness also helps keeping the loose fur and dander stay on the brush instead of floating around. With the self-cleaning function, it can effectively reduce direct contacts to the allergens on the fur. A gentle press on the clear vessel removes the fur on the bristles.
Multi-purpose Although it is purposely designed for reducing pet allergens in terms of improving human and pets’ health and home hygiene, its flexibility allows the customers to use it in the way how they want it. There are two vessels- a supplement vessel on the top and a main vessel with larger volume acts as a handle. The customers can put other solutions than anti-allergen ones in the vessels.
Micro-customization Customers can order what they need online and pick the brush and the vessel size accordingly. The orders will be produced right away and send to them. They can even purchase the specific parts for repair or renewal, which helps reducing the waste and prolong the product life.

Process The project was carried out through primary research of talking to elderly family members and getting to an insight into what troubles they have when trying to open packaging and what kind of packaging in the most difficult to get into. This gave a solid direction of where the product needs to go and be at the end.
Proposal
Due to existing plastic package openers having safety issues, children, elderly and disabled cannot use. This created a need for a safe and easy method to open packaging for everyone.

Jacob Henley
BSc (Hons) Product Design E: jacobhenley@virginmedia.com M: 07393399570 I: https://jacobhenley.wixsite.com/ jhdesign
Over the last few years, I have worked in a variety of engineering and design companies as a designer and engineer. I enjoy working on high concept and technical projects. I aspire to become a design engineer.
The Autoloop offers diabetes paitients ease of mind and easy usability.
A vast majority of adolescent diabetes patients experience issues with managing their insulin pumps. The Autoloop offers an easier way to manage their condition by automating the insulin dosage process. The product improves user interaction by utilising a capacitive touch screen with a simple interface. The body is made from anodised aluminium with a custom texture that provides the product with an evocative appeal.
41
1 in 4 diabetes paitients suffer from diabetes burn out. Diabetes burnout is a condition in which patients become tiered of managing their condition and neglect the management of their diabetes. The biggest demographic of patients suffering from diabetes burnout is adolescents.
The project was developed with consultation from the SWBH paediatric diabetes team. The industry insight allowed for richer concepts to be developed, which led to the development of a clinically viable product. Multiples test rigs were created to refine the core technology behind the product. Irritative testing of the product’s form and usability were carried out via 3D printing, to refine the aesthetics and user interaction of the product.
Automation via closeloop technology was the solution to problem Closed-loop technology allows the insulin dosage to be adjusted automatically based on the data from a continuous blood glucose monitor made by Dexcom. Allowing the insulin pump to deliver more accurate dosages of insulin without the need for user intervention.

Altum
For a new dive experience
Thomas Hurley
BA (Hons) Product Design E: tomhurley16@gmail.com M: 07896809866 I: tomhurley16.myportfolio. com I am a product design sudent based in South Wales, with a strong desire to develop products that bring about consumer pleasure.
ALTUM is a 1L O2 tank, with 100 2 sec breats - no deeper than 30ft and at an average breathing rate. Accompanied by an intelligent design of air flow through the mask. ALTUM consist of a 1L oxygen tank, held in an over the shoulder bag. A medium pressure hose connects the tank to a constant flow regulator, which maintains a regular flow of oxygen to the full-face mask. The full-face mask is a redesign snorkel mask which when submerged in water caps the flow of oxygen from the snorkel tube and draws oxygen from the tank naturally.
45
Product Specification ALTUM is a full-face snorkel mask which can breach the water level drawing enough oxygen from the tank for short and shallow dives, experiencing snorkelling like never before. Keeping within highly specific safety regulations to allow a broader range of users.
Supported snorkelling and its limits Throughout this project, safety has been at the forefront of the feasability of the end result. ALTUM successfully enables the user to snorkel freely, but with the bonus feature of breaching the water surface and exploring the ocean in a way that could only otherwise be achieved through extensive training and at a very high price.
Solution Using a new air flow design system, air comes in through the left snorkel tube from above the water level. Once the snorkel is submerged, the tube is capped and airflow is now forced through the medium pressure hose, from the tank. Stopping airflow coming straight from the tank initially, are small silicone caps that allow air to only travel into the mask and not out. This silicone cap is reversed on the front of the mask to allow CO2 to exhale out.

GYB
A Back Support that aides in the recovery and the prevention of back pains
David Kabeya Mwimba BA (Hons) Product Design E: davidk.mwimba@gmail.com M: 07463843677 I: @DKMDesigns I have a deep interest in all areas of the design world. An interest that has allowed to better understand the functionality of product, in all the stages of the design process.
‘GYB’, Got Your Back, a product that looks after your back while you work. The ‘GYB’ is a redesign back support that is mostly tailored to users that are in occupations that deal with heavy duty loads, such as construction and warehouse workers. Occupation that are quite strenuous due to the hours and the activities which are do during that time. The back support is also designed to aid with the posture of the user, this is done with adjustable shoulder straps that utilise a similar mechanism as the BOAs fitting system for helmets.
47
back injuries are reported to cause 11% of the disabilityof the UK population, a number that is rising. This can be connected to the demanding needs of heavyduty occupations that require workers to meet the target that is set, which can result in workers working for long hours moving or lifting object that are 5kg to 15kg during a given time of the working day.
Product Development In response to both primary and secondary research, and through the different model making stages I was able to understand and develop the requirements that where need and also the support needed on the back, which was mainly looking at the lumbar (lower back) and upper back. The two parts that people feel the most tension when talking about back pain.
The product solution to back injuries The ‘GYB’ is designed to aid the user through preventative means of working without getting back injuries and also by treating an injury that has already occurred. Which is done by positioning of the lumbar plate that aid in keeping the natural shape of the lower part of the spine.

Spring
Technique Development Athletic Training Aid
Aleks Kosmaczewski BA (Hons) Product Design
E: aakosmaczewski@gmail.com M: 07783514414 I: @AKosmoDesign I am a passionate young Product Designer with a keen interest in development and technology across all areas, to improve the lives of others.
SPRING is an athletic training aid specifically designed to improve the development of the users technique The SPRING Training aid has been designed taking the users movement and positioning directly into consideration. The blocks are set at a 45 degree angle from the track as this provides the optimum amount of lift without allowing the user to jump UP out of the blocks. The spring mechanism releases once the athlete pushes away from the blocks, persuading them forwards onto the track.
49
Problem With the Olympics and other events positively influencing and encouraging the public to excersise more and participate in athletics, the number of injuries within the sport is growing rapidly each year. This is due to the incorrect technique displayed by the users. Developing the users technique will improve their physical and mental health as well as prolonging their athletic careers.
Process Extensive and thought through research directly with the users of the product was taken out to create a broader understanding of the subject and to create a variation of new innovative design ideas which could aid the development of the users training in a safer manor. The safety of the user is key within this project. Therefore using 3D CAD modeling and various other methods, I was able to adapt the form to allow for greater safety.
Solution SPRING provides a safe and easy to use spring mechansim system to persuade the user onto the track in a safe manor, developing their drive phase technique which in turn, allows for greater performance. The product has been extensively developed to create a form which is both aesthetically pleasing as well as fully functionable and child friendly.

Scoot!
Your Daily Commute
Elliot Lewis
BA (Hons) Product Design E: e97lewis@gmail.com M: 07713477387
Coming from an engineering background I believe my skills lie in the more practical aspects of design such as 3D modelling and model making.
Scoot is a dockable public transport service that utilises the electric scooter for commuting within cities. Scoot is a new, stylish and Ecofriendly mode of “Personal Public Transport“. The aim is to create a system that can work alongside current public transport within cities in a way that enhances the overall experience of travelling around town without the drawbacks associated with the dockless scooter services currently available.
53
A new eco-friendly way to commute to and from work Scoot comes in the form of a fold-able electric push scooter that when folded can be pulled along by the user making it easier to move the scooter around when not in use. This coupled with the folding handlebars, makes it more practical when storing the product.
43% of scooter CO2 emmisions come from the energy spent on the daily charging collections. Current dockless system mean when the scooters are not in use, they are left in the streets exposing them to the elements and shortening their lifespan. Docking stations allow the vehicles to be safely stored as well as cutting down on collection costs caused by the daily gathering of scooters for charging.
“The most successful shared micro mobility systems have been planned hand-in-hand with cities” The key to Scoot’s success would be in the ability to work with cities to create more dedicated cycling and scootering infrastructure to help aid the use of scooters as a means of transport in cities. Don’t banish the scooter— design the city around it!

VASK.
A Natural Way To Wash & Dry Hands
Morgan Lock
BA (Hons) Product & Furniture Design E: mlml99@btinternet.com M: 07551006926 W: mlml99.myportfolio.com I am a user centered designer who believes that the user’s interaction with the product has a direct impact on the shape and ergonomics of a design. Throughout my development I have become an assiduous individual, very enthusiastic and passionate about design.
A contemporary design to decrease bacteria transition in public spaces. The product is a freestanding hand washing station that doubles up as an exit turnstile. The idea behind this is to change user behaviour in public bathrooms and therefore decrease bacteria transition within sanitised areas such as public bathrooms, hospitals and virus outbreaks. This must be a “stick” method, such as forcing people to only be able to exit if they wash their hands.
55
“60% of people do not wash their hands in public bathrooms Business Matters 2019. The huge increase in pressure for medical and public spaces to become more sanitary due to the coronavirus, highlights that people need to be hygienic in these locations to reduce the transition of bacteria and diseases.
Definition Development Primary and secondary research insights were the building blocks to high quality concept sketching. Displaying quick, detailed and accurate thinking allowed me to define the user interactions and their experience with the product from an early stage. This enabled crucial development of features and ergonomics incorporating model making of key design features and layouts proving an insightful process to grasp the users understanding of the product.
Final Proposal VASK - Norwegian for wash, is a hands-free contemporary design to increase hygiene in all sanitarry locations. Combining the technology of hand washing and drying with a design that fundamentally changes the publics handsfree subconscious user interaction.

CPA
Improving the Long-term spinal health of cyclists
Alex Minshall
BA (Hons) Product Design E: alexanderminshall@hotmail.com M: 0772 598 5327 I: @minshalldesigns A motivated, self-starting individual with a keen interest in the ability to bring people and expertise to a project, to develop and create something special.
CPA helps the user make an informed decision about their posture in real-time
It achieves this through tactile feedback in the upper brace and real-time stretch sensor monitoring in the lower back. This is displayed to the user on their smart phone, in a very simple, but integrated approach thanks to the low profile handlebar stem mount and locking mechanism.
59
Harnessing hyper-sensitive stretchable sensors and in real-time teaching the user Harnessing the development of soft sensors that are able to track body movements unlike anything else, allows us to take what is such a steep learning curve and shorten it. A working, tested prototype identified the projects potential and feasibility.
Understanding why we fall out of ideal postures and tackling this mid-ride When we push our bodies and cycle to the point of fatigue it will produce undesirable changes in muscle movement patterns, which then affects our posture - specifically, the degree to which we lean through our lumbar region. In a repetitive sport these factors can leave long lasting implications on the individual.
Short term solutions for long-term health benefits CPA tackles the growing issues surrounding longterm effects of poor cycling posture. Preventing thoracic hyperkyphosis (curvature of the spine) is its main goal. A condition that impacts far too many long-term cyclists.

BA (Hons) Product Design E: redtwodesign@outlook.com M: 07960 920865 I: n-rutland.wixsite.com/redtwo I am a confident designer who’s specialities include CAD modeling and graphic design. From an early age I was intrigued by design, and how things work and I have persued this throughout my education.
“A new payment system that meets the changed needs of customers and improves their experience.” Developments in technology have changed, and are continuing to shape, social behaviour. Looking into the changing way we pay for services, behaviours are outpacing the available options. Especially in the hospitaliaty field, restaurants have been left behind and still use out of place card machines. EZ Pay is designed to address this gap and provide an option that meets the changed needs of users
69
Modular expandability Across the hospitality sector there are many diferent types of business, from small cafe’s to large chain restaurants. These different establishment require systems of varying sizes. The EZ Pay dock unit is design to be expandable, to address this fact. The base unit can hold 5 handsets but through the quick connectors multiple units can be chained together to expand the number of handsets avaiable quickly and easily.
For the many, and the few With the continuing growth of contactless and mobile payments cash is being used less and less. The EZ Pay handset is equipped to deal with this change to card and contactless payments, with inbuilt contactless technology and card slot. It still caters for the small percentage that use cash at the same time with its large cash tray. Making it perfect for both kinds of users.
Interactive screens give users fully guided control Between asking for the bill and completing payment the user no longer has to wait at any point. Everything is done with the one unit. The only added action comes when physical things need verifying, like paying by cash or getting a paper receipt.

‘Aqua Life is a drum that allows for water to be filtered, then transported with minimal strain on the body.’ Aqua life was designed to improve the lives of thousands of people that suffer from a shortage of clean drinking water facilities, therefore, resulting in having to travel miles. Aqua life will substitute the dirty, toxic recycled jerry cans and paint buckets used to collect water in developing countries. These large masses are usually carried on the head, back or arms which can cause short term pain and long term problems musculoskeletal disorders.
73
“2.1 billion people lack access to safe drinking water globally.” (WHO/UNICEF 2017)
A study by Water Aid in 2018 shows us that only 10 countries account for 60% of the world population with no access to clean water. Aqua life will help improve the quality of water for all these people while being on a low budget using natural materials for the filtering ingredients which can be easily replaced and maintained by users.
“In Sub-Saharan Africa females walk on average 3.7 miles a day just to get water.” (WorldVision.Org) Aqua Life aims to eradicate the need to ‘carry’ heavy containers that cause uncomfortable strain on the body and instead allows you to push the drum of water along. Making journeys easier and less time consuming for users.

Solar Aglow
Smart Cycling Helmet
Chad Stevens
BSc (Hons) Product Design E: chadyabsleystevens@gmail.com M: 07931329416 W: https://chadyabsleystevens.wixsite.com/ With the increasing pressure humans are putting on our planet, I have taken a keen interest in both sustainably manufactured products and those that promote sustainability.
Solar Aglow is a smart bike helmet that aims to reduce the amount of accidents cyclist have. Solar Aglow also is one of the most sustainable cyclist helmets on the market. It makes use of the properties of cork to replace what would normally be made out of expanded polystyrene. The helmet is also self sustainable it has the ability to charge during the day so the lights can be used on the trip home.
75
75% of bike accidents occur at or near road junctions The helmet uses directional LED lighting when indicating, the light will appear to be traveling in the direction of travel. Most other helmets do not, this means that from the side it appears to just be a flashing light. This is most problematic if the cyclists head is turned.
Modular Design The product is designed so that if part does go wrong or fails it can be replaced, fixed or upgraded. For example the LEDs used are connected with a second data wire meaning that if a LED fails the rest will continue as normal allowing the user to finish their cycle .The shell of the helmet can be completely taken off and then refitted allowing access to the electronics such as the solar panel, battery and lights.
Cork has a carbon cycle of 6 - 30 The cork has a carbon cycles of 6 – 30 years depending on how it is looked after. This release is offset by the carbon that the tree took in when growing. Nearly all parts can be recycled unlike a regular helmet where it will all end up in landfill. The cork can be composted to used in bio fuels to power power stations.

Ortha-Tech
Modern orthopeadic casting.
Harry Stimpson BA (Hons) Product Design E: harryvstimpson@gmail.com M: 079 765 515 14 I: @stimpsondesign I am a young, enthusiastic designer who enjoys solving problems and learning new skills. I like to employ physical modeling and testing as a tool to create innovation.
Ortha-tech is an adjustable, waterproof and smart orthopedic casting system. Unlike traditional casting methods the Ortho-Tech cast can be easily adjusted, this means it can be used throughout all stages of the patient’s treatment without replacement. The waterproof construction significantly improves the user experience as the patient can continue their regular hygiene regime. Light weight and low-profile design means that the user will feel less self-conscious about their injury.
77
“In the UK, there are 850,000 new fractures a year. Non-union rates up to 5–10% have been suggested.” The orthopeadic casting methods currently used have seen little to no update for 30 years. I saw an opportunity to use modern materials and technology to augment the user experience for both the patient and the medical professional administering the treatment.
Cast Construction The Ortha-Tech cast features a low temperature thermoplastic shell. This plastic can be reformed many times. As well as making application quicker and easier it means a cast does not need to be disposed of when adjustment is required. This shell is held in place by a flexible over-moulded strap. This strap is tightened using a cable system that offers nearly infinite adjustment. By selecting materials that will not retain water the patient to wash like normal.
Vital Sign Monitoring In particularly acute cases (such as patients with previous complications) the cast can be used in conjunction with a “smart fabric” sleeve that contains sensors. These sensors monitor certain vital signs that can be used to track recovery.

Women’s 2Move Bike saddle
2 motions of adjustability with an ergonomic form for comfort and posture whilst giving a variety of adjustable postions to adhere to the female body.
Zoloj Syed Hasan
BA (Hons) Product Design E: zolojsyed@gmail.com M: 07419842102 I: https://zolojsyed.wixsite. com/website I’m a innovative and practical designer, that looks at user centred and user experience design as well as attention to functionality and ergonomic comfort. using methods of hand modelling and prototyping with the use of various materials and machinery. My product is specific to women and designed to address skin tissue damage, damage to the vulva, account for the wider female pelvis and posture overall. These issues are addressed by using a telescopic and tilting adjustable movement in he components of the saddle. My product has three main components. The base component that can be used solely as a saddle as well as the middle component and the front component that are attached to the base part by the rail and an innovative mechanism. The mechanism allows for the telescopic and tilting adjustment of the middle and front component. This is why the product is called the 2Move Women’s saddle. As well as a play on the word to Move encouraging women to cycle and adding a new and creative saddle on the market dedicated to female riders.
79
Research indicated that the female body can experience pain and discomfort, mainly due to the design of the bike seat. Soft tissue damage is an issue most riders feel and commonly found with women cyclists. Women need a wider seat because “the largest impact on bicycle saddle comfort is pelvic width. Women naturally have a pelvis that is slightly wider than men. , a woman sitting on a men’s bicycle seat can place the “sit bones” outside of the area of support. This transfers the support from skeletal (pelvic support) to soft tissue which is very uncomfortable. Making the saddle ergonomically more comfortable by using renewable, recycleable, and biodegradable materials The rail and the mechanisms will be manufactured using aluminium which is recycleable. The material that covers the top of the components will be organic cotton which is biodegradable. Polyurethane foam padding will be used which is also recycleable and reusable. The nylon (PA) used will also be recycled. All the parts will either be recycled or reused into another products life cycle creating a circular economy. The user will be able to identify this by the labels on the packaging and parts showcasing the ways they can be disposed of.
Using advertisment to catch the attention of the target market and convey the new product to the specific user. By the use of advertisement I will showcase my product to the target market for example advertising in bike shops such as Halfords advertising on known websites such as cycling weekly. Using bill boards in cities and towns. Also I will be using social media like Instagram opening a page dedicated to the saddle. Creating an app that allows the user to track there cycling journey when using the 2move women’s saddle, using there location they can see features such as daily mileage, and personal record of cycling km/miles.

The Rising Issue of Blue Light Emissions before bed
S O M IA
Using our phones before bed is an ever increasing problem in this modern technological era. It is said that ‘95% of people use their phone 1 hour before bed’. And this is a major cause of poor sleep that people don’t realise. Blue light messes with your body’s ability to prepare for sleep because it blocks the melatonin production in our bodies. Therefore making it harder to fall asleep and disrupting the bodies circadian rhythm
Economic Impacts of Poor Sleep A lack of sleep can lead people to feeling tired and less motivated which then effects productivity and therefore having a negative knock on effect to business and profit. USA alone loses $411 Billion a year because of workers who are getting less than 6 hours of sleep a night
The Proposal Sleep Mode
Wake Up Mode
Sunset simulating red light in the evenings along with sleep enhancing sounds are used to help the user fall asleep easier. And in the mornings, sunrise simulating warm yellow hues of light are used to help the user wake up happy along with pleasant wake up sounds that wakes the user without the need for an abrupt abnoxious alarm

Incog Cycling Helmet
Discreetly store and carry cycling accessories
Sebastian Ward
BA (Hons) Product Design E: seb.ward@live.co.uk M: 07941 539008 I: @seb.ward.design I am an ambitious designer with a keen eye for detail and aesthetics. I take pride in being able to present concepts in a consistent and relatable manner, while making use of a wide variety of media assets.
INCOG - A cycling helmet that helps city commuters develop a routine of being organised with their cycling gear. The Helmet features a built-in storage bag which can be used to turn the headspace into a storage container at the end of commute. This conceals the helmet within a wearable bag that is discreet and allows the user to maintain a professional look within their work environment. This added layer of discretion helps to encourage more use of helmets during work commutes by those who are not a fan of the ‘cycling aesthetic’.
83
The Problem Cycling to work is becoming more common within cities, but having to account for the additional items that need to be carried around and looked after can be a hassle for many, which leads to some not utilising the appropriate accessories on their commute which can impact their performance and even safety, if they choose to ride without a helmet.
Storage Mode Removing the magnetised lid enables the user to turn the helmet into a storage compartment. It’s an efficient way for the user to keep their helmet and accessories safe and secure, separate from other work-related items . this encourages the use of more accessories during their commute resulting in a more comfortable riding experience.
Added Value The helmet combines the aesthetics of road an urban cycling to create a more stylish headpiece. Added texture detail on the straps and lighting compartment offers a more refined visual form that matches the quality of professional work attire. Built in visibility lights enable safe use of the helmet all year round, with an accessible micro USB charging method.

Air Plus is an air purifier that works at your office, home or at your favorite coffee shop Air Plus provides personal clean air to the user. This portable device allows you to carry it with you to your different working location/s. You don’t have to worry about cable as it is charged wirelessly via induction charging (Qi wireless charging).
85
The issue
In my research into the topic I found out that indoor pollution can reach levels that are 2 to 5 times worse than outdoor pollution. This is harmful as the average person spends 155 hours breathing in indoor polluted air. Over 40,000 deaths have been linked to indoor pollution
Product Development
A quick and wide range of concept ideas were generated via primary and secondary research insights. CAD models were key as I could experiment on the models with air flow analysis and see how well each part could be injection molded.
Final Propsal
Air Plus provides a personal supply of fresh air whilst you work or sitting at your work space. This purifier is comtrolled via an app on your phone which you can control to power, speed and look at current and past air quality the purifier has filtered.

Smart Shopper
Scan, pack and pay on the go
Jason Whiteley BA (Hons) Product & Furniture Design
E: jason1179@live.com M: 07506 588275
With a particular interest in CAD, I enjoy creating and developing products to their fullest resolve. A year abroad in Germany developed my design thinking skills.
Smart Shopper is a modern take on everyday shopping, allowing you to scan, pack and pay on the move. Smart Shopper encourages visiting stores more often for smaller shop sizes. Not having to queue at the checkouts is a key feature. Its simple and minimal design allows many companies to apply their brand culture to suit them best. This in turn would encourage repeat custom and a regular rapport between the customer and company.
87
The bigger picture “As and when shopping” (Guardian, 2017). “Two thirds of Britons” have shifted to daily shops due to the convenience of longer opening hours. It is easier than ever before to visit a local store on the way home from work to buy the evenings meal (Guardian, 2017). The Waitrose Food and Drink Report 2017 says consumers treat supermarkets “like walkin fridges” (Waitrose Food and Drink Report, 2017).
Development Smart Shopper was developed by observing how people shop in both supermarkets and convenience stores. I quickly realised the type of product I was developing could only be launched in supermarkets due to consumers purchasing more items. This turned into a driver to help encourage people to shop more in stores.
Final Proposal Consumers have the freedom to pull or push this lightweight product around the store as they shop, scan the items they would like to purchase. Knowing they will not have to repack their items as there is no need to visit the checkout. Using the stores scanning app, users can view more information about the product e.g. allergens. Simply pay and you’re free to go.

Pro-Key
Digital Workflow, Simplified
Matt Wilson
BA (Hons) Product Design E: matt@mattiusdesign.com M: 07970550715 I: www.mattiusdesign.com I am a focused product designer who is comfortable with complexity and has a strong interest in visualisation and research of products.
A device to make a users digital workflow smoother and more efficient by using machine learning. Studies have shown that psychological workplace factors like low decision latitude (not having control over their workplace) can lead to a drop in productivity. It isn’t uncommon for people who do repetitive tasks at a computer such as data entry or using CAD programs such as Photoshop & Solidworks find themselves repeating button presses on a keyboard for functions that contradict the nature of a button press.
89
Ergonomic devices aren’t new and don’t solve repetitive interactions with a computer or device. This opened up an opportunity for a product that uses much more natural hand motions and can make some programs on computers more fluid and efficeint. It is important that a individual isn’ t held back by tools that don’t match their workflow.
The development of a computer peripheral that adds a range of customisation is needed. A perfect user interface within a program or app loses a lot of its use cases when the only way to interact with it is by clicking buttons and often they are low quality, low cost, corporate peripherals that lack physical response and aren’t intuitive or comfortable to use.
Repetitive strain injuries are on the rise due to the amount of time people are spending at computers. RSI is a problem that a lot of people face because of the nature of using traditional keyboards and mice. There have been products that try to combat this with ergonomic keyboards however the majority of these look unprofessional.

Sanctify
Premium Water Filtration System
Gary Wu
BSc (Hons) Product Design E: mrwu123@live.com M: 07583857351 I: https://mrwu123.wixsite. com/garywuportfolio An advocate in form follows function who also enjoy the exceution of the creation of form. I am a CAD enthusiast who seeks the visual challenges in all.
Sanctify presents an elite experience through its function and aesthetics to encourage drinking clean quality water. Sanctify is an interior housing appliance that encourages people to drink more water to ensure the individuals achieve the maximum health benifits it provides. The product provides an automated service of cleaning tap water through UV and Bamboo carbon filtration. This will aid in the redundancy of plastic bottled water at home due to the distrust of the cleanliness of tap water.
91
“Only 29% of plastics were recycled in the UK in 2016.” - Tappwater Following multiple studies online, plastic pullution, in regards to bottled water, has increased exponentially in the last decade due to the convience and ‘trust’ in the quality of tap water. This was one of the main triggers and aims to be resolved by the product.
Want to Want Factor
The design process involved iterative concept generations and CAD designs to resolve the final design that presents a desirable aesthetic. This was a factor to help both the success of the product as well as the encouragement of drinking water through its repeated usage.
The Water Within The entire human body is made up of 60%. The various health benefits of water are countless and transcends past our physical to our mental health. With the help of Sanctify, the product becomes more of a health investment rather than a luxury product.

An innovative redesign, to resolve the problem of a severe decline in the number of bees worldwide has been proposed, to protect them from the natural environment and human factors. The produce will chance the way of traditional beehive feeding not only for beehives in rural areas, but it will also allow urban residents to raise bees without leaving their homes, providing opportunities for people to live in harmony with nature. Let city dwellers have access to nature after a busy day's work. Through the influence of urban beehives in the residents of the city to provide more habitat for bees, it is also possible to obtain natural and pollution-free high-quality honey, alleviating the shortage of honey in the market. In order to benefit the bees and promote the harmonious coexistence between humans and bees, the product can include intelligent operation techniques, such as natural thermostats. Temperature is very important for nesting. Keep the temperature of the nest between 32°C and 35°C. The innovative double-layer insulation layer achieves the effect of warm winter and cool summer. Use the mobile phone software or smart button to adjust the temperature, dehumidification, ventilation and simpler operation of the beehive to obtain honey so that the user can operate the beehive better.
Material Technology
Plastic beehives are available to beekeepers to house honeybees. These beehives often come melded. Some plastic beehive manufacturers have beehive boxes on offer in place of full beehives. The boxes are built to the various Langstroth beehive specifications.
Wood is a poor conductor of heat. It is able to keep bees warm while temperatures outside the hive are a lot cooler. Beekeepers may build a shelter or have some cover over wooden beehives to prevent rain and snow falling directly onto the beehive.
Urban Context
Improving the quality of the surrounding environment (environment) is seen as a core concept and problem in urban design. Many experts believe that improving the quality of the environment is the most important voluntary activity in urban design.

A vision and concept for future products. Concept smart cat litter box.
This is a smart cat litter box designed as an attempt at a future product. The monitor on the front door makes it easier for people in the future to keep track of the cat’s health and cat’s movements at any time. An internal fan and a perfumer-adding filter stop the user from worrying about the stench that fills the room. At the same time, all the above operations can allow customers to manage and adjust on the mobile App by themselves.
95
’I always worry about my cat at home when I go to work. ‘ ‘That smell in the house...‘ (Questionnaires) While feeling the happiness of feeding cats, Some people are anxious about going out to work and not being able to see their cats, at the same time, other cat owners are complaining about the stench in the house. Can deodorization, cleaning, and ‘visible companionship’ be integrated in the future?
Definition Development After high quality research and exploration of basic modeling, Definition development will be expressed by the precise Solidworks modeling and rendering. At the same time, the detailed coloring of the sketch, textures particulars modify and the working principle of the design will be further summarized and output. This section will content Appearance, Internal, Interaction and Conceptualization.
Creative Concept Positioning This is a template for the shell and internal structure. In the future can become a machine case, an ornament, a storage cabinet can change and so on. But for now, it’s a futuristic cat litter box concept. Happy use.
