Since we were kids we loved to challenge one another in sports, so as soon as he came up with this idea I got up and ran to the Jet Ski. We both put on our life jackets and off we went.

As our Jet Ski's sliced the cold water, my left foot slipped and within seconds I was under the Jet Ski. I kept on yelling "I need help.." but no one cared to listen. As soon as Hassan turn around and looked, he saw that I was asking for help. He had a problem in his hands. He did not know how to swim properly. Still he being a good friend that he was he jumped in and did not care about him not knowing how to swim. Many people think of us as different and odd, which I'll be the first to admit, we are. Fortunately we don't see that as a negative thing. Police reports were filed. We were questioned and then accused of lying "to cover up his raping me". He and I were never told this directly but at the time we were minors so they spoke with our parents privately. Our parents were told that he and I were lying and we were trying to cover up the fact that he had raped me or at least tried to. Obviously, that wasn't true. We finished with all of the police reports around 3 in the morning but he stayed with me that night because I was still scared. He was there for me regardless of the accusations; which he didn't take lightly by any means.

The inspiration for this paper actually came from he and I chasing each other around the house play fighting. Kahlil Gibran, a Lebanese – Arabic poet, was born in 1883 to a poverty stricken family in Bsharri, Lebanon. He immigrated with his family to Boston in 1895 to search for opportunities of life and education that wasn't offered before. Not only was Gibran a poet, but he was an artist and writer which lead to the famous publication of The Prophet in 1923. By the publication of this work, Gibran's career reached peaks beyond measure. The poem "On Friendship" is the 19th piece of work from The Prophet which is about the joys of friendship ad how friendship ought to be. Friends are one of the most important blessings in ones life, as their presence brings joy to ones heart and satisfies all of our needs.

Gibran begins this poem off by using appealing metaphors to describe the essential need for friendships. When one is encountering problems throughout their life, that best friend is someone with "... which you sow with love and reap with thanksgiving" to express the true value of that special friend and relationship between the two. He compares friends to a crop field in which grows the food for which we need to survive. He is essentially saying that friendship and friends are indispensable parts of our lives and we need them to survive; Friends are the God's blessing.
