In every country, there is a city that attracts people's attentions. It could be a beautiful city or bear a great history displayed in its fascinating buildings or fabulous museums. Some people could have memories to share with this city. Others could sense that this city is their place to gather with their lovers and friends. Manhattan, which is known to be one of the most attractive cities in the world, astonishes people in many ways. There was a noticeable advancement through the last decades. Manhattan can be seen in different ways in the eyes of people, which reflects different impressions on people. These astonishments show contradictions that make up Manhattan as it is now. In the daily life of Manhattan, the rate of time is as fast as the speed of light. An explorer walking around the city that never sleeps will discover that this city is constantly moving. People are running to catch trains, buses, planes, etc. They have no time to sit and have a chat to one another. "Manhattan from sense of sight", John Berger states that, " Everywhere there is talk...... The talk directly corresponds to what is going on in one's head at the moment.". Clearly, talking is a formal protection and it protects oneself. Also, it diminishes the space between people. In addition, communication prevents sliding into oblivion. In the play "The IMAGINARY INVALID" by Moliere, Argan felt that he was lonely and couldn't find love from his surroundings. He develops a

The sweltering breeze rushes through my fingers as I sit on the soft green grass in the park. It's such a beautiful day, the grassy plane clashes with the sapphire sky and the sunlight illuminates the delicate area surrounding me. I quickly find myself becoming captivated by the amount of diverse people who populate the parks space. The athletic runners, dog walkers, and adolescents hidden in their smartphones; which, astonishes me because who knew that such a beautiful place could bring so many contrasting individuals together. I arise to my feet and began traveling down a narrow path which aligns itself along a lengthy river, but finally converged with the parkway ahead. An elderly couple sits at the end of the path on a wooden bench eating ice cream that slowly drizzles down their hands and onto the wedding rings that occupies their fingers. I observe the elderly couple for a short amount of time noticing how happy and gullible they act towards each other. I slowly began to lose interest in the couple, but then the elderly woman's ice cream starts to run onto her blouse and the aged husband runs to fetch some napkins, quickly returning with them. A melody ringing throughout the park quickly drew my attention away from the couple and directed it to the truck that rests on the side of the road. The truck has a window fixtured on its side where a man hands out ice cream to a long line of kids waiting. Finding myself in line, I notice a younger couple at the very front who Get more

The desire to look attractive is universal. As the Medical Journal of Australia recorded, "Both men and women are becoming increasingly concerned about their physical appearance and are seeking cosmetic enhancement." (Castle). It is beyond reproach for someone to pursue a more perfect oneself even though he or she does not suffer any physical disabilities. In the era when there was no cosmetic surgery, people could not change their appearance and most of them could do nothing but live their lives with regrets. Who wouldn't dream of changing from an ugly duckling into a white swan? For those who do not have confidence in their appearance, they would be influenced by their appearances throughout their lives. When one learns to distinguish between beauty and ugliness in childhood, even though they do not pay attention to their appearances, some naughty kids in the school might use it as an excuse to bully those poor children. After growing up, the lack of confidence in appearance might affect one's job and even career path in society. People will never be satisfied with their look, as Castle wrote in the article, "More and more people report being unhappy with their appearance. In a 1997 US survey, fifty–six percent of women and forty–three percent of men reported dissatisfaction with their overall appearance. Paralleling this trend, an increasing number of both men and women are resorting to cosmetic procedures" (Castle). Therefore, changing looks could enhance one's self–confidence and hence increase the chances of success. Everyone deserves to look their best.

Cosmetic surgery has gradually become an industry and its prosperity and development can bring great profits to the country. As this industry begins to grow without control, a lot of plastic surgeons are brought into the United States due to high annual salaries (Donato). The industry of cosmetic surgery has created jobs for many people and contributed to the United States' economic development. With the advancement of science and technology, the risk ofplastic surgery conducted in regular hospitals has been greatly reduced and the success rate has increased considerably compared with what it used to be (Castle). Plastic surgery is no longer a horrible

December 22, 2016. Spring: A Season So Beautiful. Season, weather or climates are important natural occurrences that happening on the earth. While these natural endowments vary from country to country based on geographical location and earth revolution, it is not inappropriate to say that seasons are natural occurrences that human cannot avoid at their own time, including their good side and their bad side. In America, theseason is a crucial determinant for migration, business, and commerce, health, jobs availability, farming activities etc. one of such season is spring. According to Nola Taylor, an author and a science contributor on Live Science, Spring is described as "The season of new beginnings where fresh buds bloom, animals awaken, the earth comes to life again and the season in which farmers and gardeners plant their seeds with temperatures rising slowly. Also, "Spring and "springtime" refer to the season, and to ideas of rebirth, rejuvenation, renewal, resurrection, and regrowth. It suffices to conclude that the spring season is a season of restoration, a season that resuscitates all that other seasons have caused to die. A season that brings about a brand new climatic condition favorable to both plant and animals as well as human beings. According to the website Kidskonnect.com, Spring is one of the four seasons and

The Film "Life is Beautiful"

In the movie 'Life Is Beautiful', a Jewish man and his family are put into a concentration camp during the Holocaust. The movie gives an inside look at the horrors the Jews were faced with during the Holocaust. ?Life Is Beautiful? should be incorporated into a unit on the Holocaust in schools because it shows everything the Jews were faced with, it handles expressing the horrors of the Holocaust without being too graphic, and it would help students get a more personal feeling of what happened to the Jews.

?Life Is Beautiful? gives the audience a vivid look into what happened during the Holocaust. Roberto Benigni plays a very upbeat, carefree bookstore owner. His wife, who is not Jewish, and his...show more content...

Even though the movie shows the concentration camps and the horrors that the Jews experienced, it does it in a way that would be appealing to all audiences. It isn?t too graphic that some students would not enjoy the movie. Benigni never shows anyone in the concentration camps being beaten, but makes it clear that it happens by word of mouth of the prisoners. He incorporates the crematory and makes it sound like a horrible place, but never shows anyone being put into the furnace. This way, the audience can be aware that the crematory was a horror, but never have to actually witness it first–hand. This would make it so that all audiences can watch the movie and still get the full effect of what went on in the concentration camps.

?Life Is Beautiful? shows one family?s experience in the concentration camp. Benigni makes the audience fall in love with the main character in the beginning by letting them see the way his life was and how truly happy he was. He shows him falling in love with a Christian woman and having an upbeat, curious little boy. By doing this, the audience experiences the sadness that the characters felt in the movie when they are separated. The audience feels sad when his Christian wife is separated from her family even though she wasn?t supposed to be at the camp in the first place. They also feel fear when his son has to hide every day from the Jews so that he won?t be taken to the furnace. At the end of the movie, when

Definition Essay: What Is The Word Beautiful?

What Makes A Person Beautiful?

There are many ways to define beauty, but I feel like society plays a huge role in how beauty is portrayed to women. I believe that society focuses more on what a person looks like than what they actually do for society. What makes someone beautiful is what they have on the inside and who they are. Qualities that beautiful people have are: kindness, honesty, respect, confidence, generosity, positivity, and willingness to help others when they are in need. Society diminishes this ideal by telling people what is and what is not beautiful. What should make a person beautiful is how they treat people, their poise, and how they give back to the community.

I feel as though what society puts in the media makes people feel undesirable; as though they are not accepted in society for meeting the expectations society puts in the media. People such as BeyoncГ©, or Michelle Obama are viewed as "beautiful" in the American society. Society thinks women should be skinny, with a perfect smile, tall, long hair, with large assets. Society shouldn 't only focus on how a person looks, but on the character of that person, and how they treat others within their family or community. BeyoncГ© stated; "We all have our imperfections. But I 'm human, and you know, it 's important to concentrate on other qualities besides outer beauty." I feel as though what BeyoncГ© stated here is that there is so much more to a person than what they look like. Their contributions, personality, and how they make people

"This is my story. This is the sacrifice my father made. This was his gift to me." The prescribed text "Life Is Beautiful" by Roberto Benigni (1998) explores how obstacles and challenges are integral to aspects of inner journeys. Similar features are revealed in the two related texts. The news article "A Young Refugees Plea for a Better Future" Nooria Wazefadost (2004) SMH and the poem "The Road Not Taken", by Robert Frost (1916). One, turning into a big cry–baby. Two, telling us youwant to see your mummy. Three, saying you're hungry and want something to eat". This quote illustrates Guido's role of imagination when he translates to the others in the labour camp that it is a competition and the winner earns a tank to turn reality into a game for his son.

The resilience of the human spirit is another factor that the composer is attempting to emphasise and he also represents this through the protagonist Guido. This aspect of journeys s highlighted through the technique of lighting and shadowing when Doctor Lessing (The German Doctor) is under the light which demonstrates that his life is easy and he doesn't face many challenging obstacles. Nevertheless, Guido is placed in the dark which portrays that his life would be difficult and full of challenging obstacles. This also conveys the juxtaposition of two parallel journeys co–existing in the same place, same time but have two whole

Throughout history the ideal of beautiful has been difficult to achieve it has been shaped by social contexts. From in early age people have been surrounded by images and advertisement that reinforced that thin is beautiful and in order to be happy and successful one must be thin. Women are consistently given the message they are not pretty enough or thin enough. It is nearly impossible to open a magazine, shop at the mall or turn on the TV without being confronted with the message that to be fat is to be undesirable and unattractive. Beauty Is Good Essay

Love is a beautiful thing. It makes people happy. It can change you, and show you things that you never knew about yourself. It lifts you up, knowing there is always someone who will stand by your side through anything. It brings people together, and makes the world a better place. Some people may disagree; they might think love is just a fantasy. Either way, it is a fantasy that everyone deserves to dream of and experience in all its glory, whether straight, lesbian, gay, bisexual, or transgender. However, not all people are so accepting of love when it is not in the form that they are familiar with, or is not demonstrated in ways that they necessarily think are proper. This can be easily seen in society's treatment of non–heterosexuals, especially in the cases of marriage laws, bullying by teens and young adults, and general homophobic attitudes in our culture. It is imperative that these situations be changed so that each and every person has the same rights and is not harshly and wrongly judged because of the sex of the person that they love.

When you hear the word "marriage," what comes to your mind? Is it long white dresses and dapper tuxedos, or a towering cake and beautiful flowers? Do you think of sappy love songs and the first dance? Do you imagine a fairytale come true, with a horse and carriage whisking you and your new spouse away from the church in which you said your vows? No matter what comes to your mind, most people can agree that marriage is happy, and Get more content

A Beautiful Day Essay

There are many beautiful things in the world that attract your eyes. It could be the mist on the grass in the morning on your morning jog, to the sunset you see as you lie on your roof and wish upon a star. There are so many things that someone can think that are beautiful that others may not. Someone that I find beautiful is my friend, A. Whenever I see her, my day gets 10 times better. What makes her beautiful isn't just her looks. It's the way she acts when we are together; she can be her true self and so can I. It's the way she smiles when I tell her a stupid joke. The way her eyes sparkle as she looks at the sky, but the most beautiful thing about her is her heart. She can make a rainbow out of the storm for everyone and will always strive to make them happy. It's so hard to be upset around her because she knows just the right words to make it all better. Something I really love about her is just the way she is. She can be in the worst of moods and see someone upset and just immediately jumps up and goes to see if they are alright. She has always cared more for others because she finds real joy in seeing others happy. When we hang out, she just makes the world slow down. Just a couple week or before, I was hovering around the streets of Kathmandu and was gyrating around a top of my house with a heavy brain box. Every of those 24 hours of my days used to be spent on finding the meaning of life, death and the reason I am here on this planet. The short film entitled "The Most Beautiful Thing" is about a smart and lonely boy in high school who falls for a girl who is also lonely and has special needs. This film came out in 2012 and Cameron Covell is the director, writer, and producer of the film. It is only about 11 minutes long, but it conveys a very powerful message about love. This short film is a great movie to watch because many people can relate to the struggles of the boy (Brandon), it is amazing to see who he falls in love with (Emily) and how she changes his world, and the courage displayed by both Brandon and Emily at the end of the film is astounding and encouraging. Most people can relate to Brandon at some point in their lives. Brandon is a shy and awkward high school student. He does not seem to have any friends and so he is very lonely. Loneliness is one of the major themes of the film. The major setting of the film is inside and outside of a high school building. He walks around the school with no friends to accompany him and he watches jealously as groups of friends and people in relationships have fun together. Nikkolas Tavo, the actor who plays Brandon, does wonderfully–acted sad facial expressions and the look in his eyes conveys how depressed he feels. Everyone has felt lonely and sad at some point in their lives, so Brandon is a very relatable character. Brandon ends up falling in love with a very unexpected type of girl. He first sees her in the hallway inside of the school. He tries to say "Hello" to her, but she does not even lift her head up to acknowledge him. He then sees the same girl outside the school on a bench with her bookbag and a notebook. He says "Hello" to her again and she still does not look up from her notebook. When she does look up at Brandon, he says "Did you really not hear me?!" (Covell, 2012). Emily shows him a sign language signal to show him that she is deaf. She then writes in her notebook "It's alright. I'm Emily." (Covell, 2012). He then writes his name back to her. One of the themes being shown in this part of the movie is that no matter what differences two people have, there can still be a connection on a higher level. As the film progresses, Emily and Brandon continue

In men the most desirable features are a big jaw and broad chin. Smooth skin, shiny hair, lean body and facial symmetry are also important qualities of beauty. Dateline conducted experiments to see if beautiful people were treated better than unattractive people. The results were an overwhelming, yes. Men would stop and help pretty women in distress every time, while they would walk right by a less attractive woman that needed help. Studies have consistently shown that attractive people get favorable treatment in many situations. They are more accepted in their peer groups, they receive better treatment in stores and restaurants, and they are hired more often with higher pay. Are these things that make up outer beauty more important than inner beauty? There are a large group of individuals who believe that outer beauty is temporary while inner beauty is untouchable and ever lasting, and that is what makes someone truly beautiful. Even photographers that photograph beautiful models say that they look for girls that portray a beautiful soul behind the face or a feeling of kindness that shows through. It is amazing how inner beauty can make an average looking person light up a room with there heart–stopping presence. It is a permanent quality which makes an individual interesting, reachable, and trustworthy. If you feel beautiful, your own confidence and self–worth brings out a glow of beauty that no outer beauty can compete with. If inner beauty is the genuine

In the feminist art movement, performance art provided a bridge that connected women to their bodies. When relating to the female form, performance art serves a command, rather than an invitation. Artists involved in this movement challenged their roles in the art world as well as in a society. In this work, Abramovic brushes her hair repeatedly while saying the title repetitively. By stating the standard of female beauty in art, the performance makes the audience aware of the discriminatory gender roles and creates a feeling of discomfort. While the beginning of the performance is striking, the continuous act of bushing hair changing from aggressive and violent to calm and poetic, makes the audience unsettled. However, as the performance continues and the actions continue to weave through different emotions, the piece becomes incredibly profound. The act of saying that the artist must be beautiful becomes hauntingly human. By repeating this line, Abramovic challenges conventional beauty standards and calls upon modern female desires to be physically beautiful. Not only does the performance extract from physical appearance, the piece questions whether art must be beautiful. In performance art, the actions often challenge the performer and bring it to the extreme by putting emotional and physical stress on the artist's body and mind. Art must be Beautiful, Artist Must be Beautiful puts continuous stress upon the artist's body by reclaiming the figure as the artists own and exposing the harsh realities of social expectations. The movie "Life is beautiful" falls into two parts. The first is beautiful romantic comedy while the other makes the viewer want to smile but cry at the same time. Roberto Benigni, who also directed and co–wrote the movie, stars as Guido, a hotel waiter in Italy in the 1930s. Watching his adventures, we are reminded of the legendary Chaplin. The film starts in a scene where Guido arrives in town in a runaway car with failed brakes and is mistaken for a visiting dignitary. He falls in love instantly with the beautiful Dora (Nicoletta Braschi, Benigni's real–life wife). He becomes the undeclared rival of her fiance, the Fascist town clerk. He makes friends with the German doctor (Horst Buchholz) who is a regular guest at the hotel and shares his love of riddles. And by the fantastic manipulation of carefully planned coincidences, he makes it appear that he is fated to replace the dour Fascist in Dora's life. Dora who was arranged to be married by the Fascist town clerk suddenly starts to have second thoughts but because of Guido's charisma and suave she literarily leaves with Guido on a horse during her engagement party and in one scene even conspires to meet him on the floor under a banquet table; they kiss, and she whispers, "Take me away!".
