Riddle Of Month! I am Thin and Flimsy, yet i can cut and break rock, What am I?
Key Club Pledge I pledge, on my honor, to uphold the Objects of Key Club International; to build my home, school and community; to serve my nation and world; and combat all forces which tend to undermine these institutions 3
HUMANS OF TEXAS OKLAHOMA
Eric Huynh MY KEY CLUB EXPERIENCE IF I WERE TO SUM UP MY EXPERIENCE WITH KEY CLUB SO FAR¸ THE ONLY WORD THAT COULD EVEN COME CLOSE TO DESCRIBING MY FEELINGS ABOUT THE CLUB WOULD BE PHENOMENAL. I DIDN’T KNOW IT THEN BUT JOINING THE CLUB AND BEING A PART OF THE KIWANIS FAMILY WAS ONE OF MY GREATEST DECISIONS. I NEVER WOULD HAVE IMAGINED THAT JOINING A CLUB WOULD HAVE SUCH A PROFOUND IMPACT ON MY LIFE. I FIRST HEARD ABOUT KEY CLUB THROUGH MY SISTER WHO WAS AN OFFICER AT THE TIME. WHENEVER I SAW HER MAKING A DIFFERENCE IN THE COMMUNITY, WHILE ALSO HAVING FUN, I KNEW I HAD TO JOIN. TO BE TOTALLY HONEST, I DIDN’T SET HIGH EXPECTATIONS OR GOALS FOR MYSELF WHEN JOINING THE CLUB. I THOUGHT TO MYSELF, “OKAY, I’LL VOLUNTEER AND BECOME AN ACTIVE MEMBER. MAYBE I’LL RUN FOR AN OFFICER POSITION WHEN I’M A SOPHOMORE OR JUNIOR.” WHEN THE ELECTIONS FOR OFFICER POSITIONS CAME AROUND, I DECIDED TO APPLY BECAUSE THE WORST-CASE SCENARIO – IF I DIDN’T GET CHOSEN – WOULD SERVE AS A LEARNING OPPORTUNITY FOR THE FOLLOWING YEAR. HOWEVER, TO MY SURPRISE, I WAS CHOSEN TO BE THE TREASURER, ALBEIT NOT THE POSITION I RAN FOR.
BEING THE TREASURER PUT ME IN A POSITION OF RESPONSIBILITY THAT I HAVE NEVER EXPERIENCED BEFORE AND WAS FRANKLY TERRIFYING AT FIRST, HOWEVER IT WAS A TITLE THAT I WOULD EVENTUALLY WEAR ALMOST AS A BADGE OF HONOR. THE POSITION OPENED SO MANY DOORS AND OPPORTUNITIES FOR ME. FIRSTLY, I GOT TO MEET MY AMAZING BOARD OF OFFICERS (ALL OF WHICH WERE OLDER THAN ME). WORKING ALONGSIDE THE OTHER OFFICERS, I’VE LEARNED VALUABLE LESSONS AND CREATED UNFORGETTABLE MEMORIES. BEING A PART OF THIS CLUB HAS TRULY HELPED ME GROW SO MUCH AS A PERSON. I’VE DEVELOPED BETTER COMMUNICATION SKILLS AND HAVE MET AMAZING PEOPLE THROUGH KEY CLUB. ONTO MY NEXT CHALLENGE WITHIN KEY CLUB, BEING THE PRESIDENT. UP UNTIL NOW, I’VE ALWAYS HAD A SENSE OF COMFORT KNOWING THAT I HAVE SOMEONE TO GUIDE ME BUT NOW THE TRAINING WHEELS ARE TAKEN OFF. THE RESPONSIBILITIES AND TITLE OF PRESIDENT ARE DAUNTING AND WILL TAKE ADJUSTING, BUT I’M GLAD THAT KEY CLUB IS KEEPING ME ON MY TOES AND ALLOWING ME TO GROW AS A PERSON. WITH THE HELP OF MY KIWANIS FAMILY, I AM SURE THAT I CAN SUCCEED.
