6th Annual Online Sale

Welcome to the Richardson Ranch 6th Annual Online Auction. Again this year we are using LiveAuctions.TV , assisted by Katie Colyer and Craig Flewelling, to make the process smoother and more secure. Please read the following instructions and if you have any trouble or questions, be sure to give us a call at 250-557-4348 or email us at don@richardsonranch.ca DATES AND TIMES: The auction begins at 9:00 a.m. Pacific Daylight Savings Time on Thursday, September 17th, 2015 on www.liveauctions.tv Live online close-out biddng begins at 7:00 p.m. PDST Sunday, September 20th, 2015. A sale order will be posted 9:00 AM on September 20. If you don’t have computer access, phone in bids will be accepted at the three numbers listed below. Due to some folks computers and their marginal internet connection I would stress that you use the maximum proxy bid feature if you really want a lot. If your computer takes time to refresh the screen when you are making a crucial bid you may be disappointed and lose the animal to a lessor bid. Craig Flewelling - fcc@xplornet.com - 403-556-0515 Katie Colyer - katie@hereford.com - 208-599-2962 Don Richardson - don@richardsonranch.ca - 250-557-4348

AUCTION GUIDELINES HOW TO PARTICIPATE In order to participate in the online auction you will need to pre-register and obtain a buyer number. To do this go to the LiveAuctions website, www.liveauctions.tv, and select Richardson Ranch 6h Annual Online Auction. After logging in the buyer registration form should pop up automatically. If it doesn’t there is a link you can select that says, “register for a buyer number”. This form requires you to fill out your bank’s name, city, province, phone number and a contact. You may register to bid after bidding has opened but please remember that authorization to bid is not instantaneous so please plan ahead. HOW THE AUCTION WORKS Once you have a username and have received a buyer number then you are ready to bid. You will see a screen that is unique to your user ID. There will be a list containing the sale lots. If you click on a lot the video clip or photo will be displayed to the right. The next bid, current price, proxy bid, and manual bid buttons will be displayed below the video area. This page will react to your bids by stating, “you are in” or “you are out”. No one else will be able to see your bid – that data is not accessible to the public. Each time you login, the auction screen will display your personal bidding information. Your auction screen is unique and private displaying your activity to only you. Remember that you must have the lot that you are bidding on selected. This is where it tells you if you are in or out. It is here where you can also see your proxy (automatic) bid settings as applicable. WHAT IS A PROXY BID? With a proxy bid you can enter your maximum bid and then sit back and watch. When you enter a proxy bid amount the LiveAuctions system automatically bids on your behalf up to your maximum bid. If the lot closes out for less than your maximum, that’s all you’ll have to pay. This means that you don’t have to keep coming back to re-bid every time another bid is placed. This makes it more convenient and less time consuming. It can also greatly assists those breeders that can’t be near a computer or are busy with other duties at the time of the final bidding. Your maximum amount is kept confidential from other bidders and the seller. Even though you can see this amount on your screen no one else can. The LiveAuctions system compares your bid to those of the other registered bidders and the system automatically places bids on your behalf, using only as much of your bid as is necessary to maintain your high bid position. The system will bid only up to your maximum amount as necessary to maintain you as the high bidder. If another bidder has a higher maximum, you’ll be outbid and the system will tell you that “YOU’RE OUT”. But, if no other bidder has a higher maximum you win the final bid.

Any problems….call Don at 250-557-4348

Welcome to the Richardson Ranch 6th Annual Online Sale. Our dedicated use of Artificial Insemination for 33 years and an extensive Embryo Transplant program continues to produce outstanding results not only here at Tlell but across Canada and overseas for our many customers who are using Tlell genetics. Once again we are bringing you the opportunity to select from the breeding of our best Polled Hereford cattle to industry leading sires. Since our last year’s Sale Catalogue introduction was written many things have happened here at Tlell. In early September father lost his battle with pulmonary fibrosis. The winter was mild but very wet. Calving heifers and embryos started on Jan 3rd and mature cows started calving on Feb 1st with all but one calved in 6 weeks. We once again had the Greenbelt Embryo Transplant team from Chilliwack come to Tlell in April to flush 6 cows. This time we were able to recover 67 Grade 1 embryos before we started breeding the cows back for 2016. Bull sales went well in the spring with 9 yearling bulls topping out at $7750 at Williams Lake and $7000 at Vanderhoof. Our longest calving season ever finally ended when Jamie (and Bill) gave birth to Jesse Donald Lloyd, 8 lb. 12 oz., on June 14. Jessie is generation number 7 of our family to live and play cows at the Richardson Ranch. The grass was green, fertilizer all spread and the rains stopped for 10 weeks starting in early May. All of the Haida Gwaii was suffering from a severe drought. Our tame pastures all wilted and died. We have harvested 50% of our normal silage crop and will be buying our cattle forage for the first time ever. Construction of the new Veterinary Hospital is well under way and all the new equipment is ordered and Dr Dane will be on site by the middle of August. Hopefully it will be up and running shortly after our sale is finished.

Jamie and Bill are moving to Fraser Lake this fall to take over the day to day operations of Copper T Polled Herefords for Trevor and Janice Tapp. It will be exciting opportunity for all of us. Janice and Trevor can step back a little and here at Tlell we look for an opportunity to contribute to Jamie’s program as she and Bill work to build a profitable beef enterprise for their young family to grow with. This year’s sale cattle are representative of the type and kind we strive for. There are cattle sired by some of the breeds leading AI sires and of course the embryos give you access to our very best cows.

We see the grass beginning to turn green again here at the end of July so hopefully we will have pasture this fall. With Dane’s arrival we look forward to stepping back in the clinic and concentrating on cows, feed store, family and maybe even a little time for ourselves. Reservations are made for the World Hereford 2016 Conference in Uruguay and there is talk of more travel! Don & Leslie

Buyers Draw for all who purchase Tlell Genetics in 2015 Airline tickets for two, five day stay at Grampa’s Guest House located on the Richardson Ranch in Tlell. Fresh water river fishing in the Tlell River for Coho is at your doorstep or you can arrange guided Spring Salmon Fishing in the Salt Water depending on the time of year you choose to come. Explore the beaches, walk the dunes, check out the Haida Cultural Centre or visit our local museums. Relax and enjoy ! Good luck in the draw, Don and Leslie

CRAIG SAYS: It’s fun to walk through good cow herds, and each year the Richardson herd keeps getting better. I was just to the ranch, and what a job “TRUST” has done there. The conditions this year were dry, and the grass is short but the calves EXCELLED and the fishing was awesome! The bull calves on offer have lots of performance and maternal power. Check 6C, he could certainly be a curve bender. The heifer calves are special. They have the look and carry the documentation to make great investments. The Junior Bonanza is in Alberta next year, and these heifers would be ideal candidates. The yearling heifer section is also very strong. They carry good services with accurate dates, and if embryos are your interest, they hold endless potential. Give me a call. I would rather tell you about this offering in person. Call me at 403-224-2111 or 403-556-0515 or contact me online at flewcc@xplornet.com.
