September 113-27, 2010
INTRODUCTION Hi Folks, It is with great pleasure that we wish to welcome you to our First Online Silent Auction. You will have the opportunity to bid on these cattle from September 13 till September 27, 2010. Ours is a family operation with three of the six generations who have lived at Tlell still active on a daily basis. Many of you are familiar with Leslie and I as we have attended sales and shows for over 25 years. Our travel has been made possible by my Mom and Dad, Doug and Alice, who have covered for us and are still active in our ranch business today. My brother Mike also plays an integral part in the operation . As well as taking his turn with feeding and harvesting, his mechanical skills are called upon on a regular basis to keep us up and running smoothly. My son, Dane, (currently in vet school) and daughter, Jamie, (currently managing a ranch in Alberta), and their 3 cousins, Kenny, Heidi and Pam were active in the CJHA. Jamie maintains her CHA membership and still owns cows in the herd. Kenny and Heidi both won banners at the National Junior Show in Princeton last summer and both continue to contribute with halter breaking, feeding and showing. The Richardson Family has been breeding cattle at Tlell for over 90 years and we have been producing Registered Hereford Seedstock for 29 years. The majority of our bulls sell annually in the spring to commercial ranchers at the Vanderhoof and Williams Lake Bull Sales. This has worked well and we have developed numerous repeat customers who use Tlell bulls year after year.
We have sold our females at several venues over the past 25 years. Tlell genetics can now be found right across Canada, from BC to the Maritimes, as well as in the USA, Europe and New Zealand. We have had a web presence since Dec 15, 1997 when we launched our home page and to date over thirty-five thousand visitors have checked out our web site. We have also promoted our cattle extensively in the industry print media as well as at local, regional and National Exhibitions. Our last trip to the Western National Hereford Show at Farmfair in Edmonton saw us bring home the Grand Champion Polled Hereford Female banner as well as both the Polled Hereford Premier Breeder and the Polled Hereford Premier Exhibitor banners. With the ferry ride, it takes a minimum of 5 days for us to move the cattle from Tlell and set up in a sale barn. The ever increasing costs associated with attending these sales have made us look hard at our marketing strategy. We think that the time is right to now combine our cattle marketing and our internet success by moving to an online sale. We will offer all our 2010 bred heifers, both a feature bull and heifer calf, the choice of the yearling bulls we used at Tlell this spring, several frozen embryos, a flush, three young bred cows and three feeder steers. Don & Leslie Richardson 2
The cattle will be catalogued and listed on our web site, www.qcislands.net/docdon/ Each lot will have the opening bid posted on the web site on September 13, 2010. To bid on any animal just email docdon@qcislands.net or phone (250)557-4348 or fax (250)5574468 me your bid. Please include your name, phone number, lot number and bid amount. The first time you bid I will assign you a bidder’s number. I will respond to every bid confirming that you are the highest bidder on that lot or, if someone else has bid the same amount ahead of you or a higher amount, that you are not the highest bidder. I will also inform you if you are no longer the high bidder on your particular lot when you have been out bid. I will be using the time recorded on my computer to determine the order bids are received. Each night at 11PM Pacific Daylight Savings Time I will update the web site with the current bid on each lot and it will show the bidder number. Bidding will close at midnight Pacific Daylight Savings Time September 27, 2010. If there are new bids on any lot on the last day of the auction, Sept 27, 2010, I will ask each bidder involved in that day’s bidding for a new bid, in turn, until a winning bid has been established. In other words, if you start the last day with the highest bid and someone ups your bid just before closing, we will then open it up between you and the new bidder until one of you has declined to beat the other’s bid. If you are involved in a bid off I will be contacting you by email and/or phone on September 28, 2010. When all sales have been finalized all winning bidders will be contacted with instructions re payment and to get both delivery instructions and record how you wish the animal to be transferred.

CRAIG SAYS One of life’s precious journeys is a visit to the Queen Charlotte Islands (Haida Gwaii). A stop at the Richardson Ranch will present you with some of the best Polled Herefords in the business. Don & Leslie have done a great deal of research in assembling their herd and choosing their sire lineup. It is very expensive to raise animals on the island, and a ferry trip to the mainland is $1,200, leaving little room for mistakes. Because of the time and cost factor, the Richardson family has chosen to host an Online Auction from September 13-27. They are offering you their entire 2009 heifer calf crop. Included in this offering is their 2010 Show String. These females are worthy of the highest attention, and special note is the service to RVP STAR 533P CAN-AM ET 57U. Exclusive to Western Canada, this son of STAR Bright Future rises to the top of every show he has attended and will be a star in the future. These heifers have terrific documentation and have been raised on a high roughage ration. In the past, the females from Richardson Ranch have easily acclimated and their production reports have been outstanding. Don’t overlook the Herd Sires on offer. Both yearling bulls have seen service at Tlell. The Maxium son has developed well and is Service Sire to the yearling heifers. The Super Duty is a tremendous prospect that has seen service in the Richardson cow herd. Don & Leslie are also offering their best bull calf, a very stout made Stamina son out of a Red Cedar mother, he is certainly worth a look. The added feature is 25X, a Banger heifer calf that will bring any show enthusiast a lot of thrills and if you want to know how good her mother is, give me a call. The exclusive embryos offered are from the two best cows on the ranch, Tlell 60D Roo 29J has a unbelievable EPD for making money. Check the footnotes under Aky-Breaky Heart 18W. She is awesome, and I’m sure calves by Can-Am will be equally as good. Tlell 36N Kema 8S is a beautiful uddered Beyond daughter that was Champion Female at Farmfair in 2008. These are tremendous producing females, don’t miss this opportunity! This is a functional, no nonsense herd with some of the best genetics in the Polled Hereford industry. Don has outlined the delivery options, so give us a call. I have seen the mothers and grandmothers recently and would be pleased to be your eyes in discussing this offering. Don’t just take my word, ask the owners of heifers previously purchased from the Richardsons. They are the best endorsement.

WOW! Look out Farmfair, here we come. This calf has awesome muscle expression. He has a huge hip, huge butt and that extra length we look for in our cattle. He stands four square and keeps his width when he is in motion. Keep going down the check list, it’s all there; good hair, big barrel, clean sheath, smooth front, great disposition, good numbers and an out cross pedigree for many with nine generations deep of Tlell breeding. His dam combines the best of our Banger and Red Cedar genetics into a beautiful package. Her only heifer calf born to date was Reserve Grand Champion Hereford Female at the IPE for Morgan McArthur. This cow has an exceptional udder and works hard on raising her calves with the first three having an average 205 day index of 106.3. Sire is the Reserve National Champion Stamina who also sired Canada’s high selling bull calf in 2008 5

Sweet fronted, big barreled and lots of red meat in this show girl. She will lead our string this fall and she could lead yours next year. Selling 100%, but retaining the right to one flush in the future. This heifer turns heads whenever someone walks into her pen. She has the look and the attitude to take over the ring. Better yet she is bred to perform as a mother of future herd sires. Her dam combines the calving ease of Red Cedar with the outcross genetics of the Australian National Champion. Her first calf had a 205 day wt of 884 lb. and indexed 125. Xquisite 25X is sired by Banger, our Gold Trophy Sire, who brings his A game to this mating. Banger combines the Felton and the Remitall programs with calving ease and carcass qualities.

If you have never calved a Cattelac now is your chance. This outstanding Online son is a multtrait leader whose daughters bring home terrific calves year after year. Combine that with the Peppy Belle cow Kenny purchased at the National sale in Edmonton in 2006. Peppy’s first calf was a ripper who sold to S&P Farms and her Rock daughter sold to K-Cow at the 2009 Evergreen Sale. This is a very solid female who could be shown at any venue this fall and she would be in the hunt every time. Thick, deep, big barreled, good haired, dark red, pigmented, she is hard to get by! Aky–Breaky 18W has it all ...... pedigree, performance and a body to die for! Her dam is a National Class winner, both a Gold and Silver Dam and was twice named Supreme Cow. Her first daughter (dam of Lots 6 & 7) was a National Show Heifer Calf Class winner. Roo’s second heifer sold to Robin Hogberg, Bar-H, Langenburg,SK where her first calf was twice an Agribition Champion and her second calf sold for $28,000 ! We love this heifer and want to retain her genetic influence in our herd but have agreed to offer every Tlell bred heifer in this sale. Our solution is to retain a 50% interest in two flushes on this heifer. We would pay 1/2 of all flushing costs and retain 50% of all embryos produced.
