Welcome to the 49th Annual Vanderhoof All Breeds’ Bull Sale

General Information: Greetings to all our valued customers and readers of this catalogue. We would like to acknowledge the many of you who have supported this sale over the past 48 years. We appreciated your support and are happy to bring you another set of quality bulls who are ready to go to work in your herds. Thank you to all our consigners. Their bulls, which sell April 13th, will all have passed a semen and breeding soundness evaluation completed by a qualified veterinarian; will have successfully gone through a sifting process conducted by a committee of three local commercial cattlemen and will have met required weight standards as set out by the Vanderhoof All Breeds’ Bull Sale Committee. The group of commercial heifers on offer are guaranteed open by their consigner.

Viewing of Bulls: Consigners may have videos of their bulls online at www.dlms.ca during March and early April. Keep checking the website to see as new videos come online. Bulls can be viewed at the consigners’ ranches prior to being taken to the sale yard. If you have any questions or would like to look at the bulls in person before hand, please contact the consignor directly. All bulls will be available for viewing at BC Livestock yard starting Friday April 12th at 1pm.

Bidding: DLMS (Direct Livestock Marketing Services) will be used to offer online viewing and real time bidding on sale day. To receive a bid number for online bidding, you must register and receive buyer approval in advance. Go to www.dlms.ca for information or contact a representative at 780-732-4384. Please do this a few days before April 13th to ensure you can participate. If you prefer, phone-in bids are also accepted, please find multiple contact numbers on page 4, a representative will be happy to assist you.

This Sale: The Vanderhoof All Breeds’ Bull Sale is a not-for-profit organization run by a committee of volunteers. These volunteers work together to organize and host this sale to which the breeders of registered bulls in BC can consign.

EPDs cannot be compared between breeds.

Example of EPD Use:

To use EPDs effectively you must understand how they work. Imagine you are interested in purchasing a couple of bulls for your herd. You are looking at the EPDs in a sale catalogue. Bull A has a weaning weight EPD of +10 and Bull B has a weaning weight of +60. What does that mean? How can you use the EPDs to choose between the two bulls? If these animals were randomly mated with 10 similar cows, we would expect the group average weaning weight of Bull A’s offspring to be 50 lbs lighter than that of Bull B’s (60-10=50).

Heifers will be sold by the package and are guaranteed open by the consignor. All heifers born in the spring of 2023.

We were in need of more bull power for 2023 and jumped at the opportunity to purchase this great outcross bull from Richardson Ranch. He is very deep through the middle, has good round feet and a strong top. He was used as a yearling on our heifers and on a group of young cows. Terms of Sale:

1. Each consignor may place a reserve bid on his/her animal(s) if desired. Should this reserve not be topped the animal is passed out of the ring un-sold, and the consignor must pay the a commission on the reserve.

2. Every animal sells to the highest bidder and in the cases of disputes, the auctioneer’s decision shall be final.

3. No release will be given until satisfactory settlement has been made.

4. Announcements from the auction block will take precedence over the printed matter in the catalogue.

Settlement of Purchases:

5. All purchases must be settled by the end of the sale day by cash, cheque or electronic means at the sale office.

6. Immediately after a purchase is declared, the risk of the animal shall be exclusively with the purchaser. Insurance will be available on the premises.

Conditions of Sale:

7. All bulls are sold subject to all health requirements set by the Vanderhoof Bull Sale Committee. Bulls have passed examinations by a three person sifting committee on the day before the sale. An appointed veterinarian has final say in all health matters.

8. Consignors guarantee sale animals to be in sound health and free from physical defects, contagious or infectious diseases at the time of the sale.

9. Bulls have had a satisfactory semen test performed by a qualified veterinarian, not more then 45 days prior to the sale.

10. The consignor is not responsible for damage by foreign bodies after the animal is sold or for sickness or injury not apparent at sale time.

11. Each bull carries a certificate of registration issued by the pertinent breed association. Certificates of registration will be sent to the appropriate breed association for transfer of the certificate into purchaser’s name.

General:

12. The Vanderhoof Bull Sale Committee reserves the right to decide any point not covered by the rules the committee considers necessary in the proper regulation and management of the sale. The decision of the committee shall be final in all cases.
