President’s Message
“
I
hope this latest edition of Dog World finds you and your families well.
The Ekka The year has been marching on and we are on the cusp of the Ekka and a wonderful line up of Specialty Breed Shows happening. And that is pretty exciting after the Ekka not happening due to Covid the last few years. And yes, there is another wave happening but hopefully we are all taking full advantage of the vaccination regime and having our second boosters. I am thrilled with the great location of the Dogs Queensland stall near the rings and seating area. We will be high tech this year with large screens happening with excellent Dogs Australia videos about our dog breeds and dog sports on a loop supported by volunteers on the stand. A big thank you to Michael Yates in the office for making this all happen. Being a Dogs Queensland volunteer on the stand is a great opportunity to talk to the public and friends about what we are all about and the wonderful doors that open with our many disciplines when you acquire a purebred dog from one of our ANKC breeders or start competing with a crossbred dog in most of our dog sports. There are still spots available in the roster so do contact the office if you are interested in making this important contribution. As a volunteer you receive a pass to access the grounds for your shift as well as a meal pass and the pleasure of the vibe in the dog area. I am looking forward to doing announcing next week. You will see details below about our super Dogs Queensland showbags. It took a bit of negotiation with Mr Harrison, but if you take on and complete a second shift you will receive a complimentary Dogs Queensland showbag too!
The Super Dogs Queensland Showbags I know detail about our showbags has already appeared in a Paw Prints but thought I would set out their super content here. A big thank you to Barb Cumming in the office for her great work in making this bag happen. Our breeders would

Townsville Tour Many members would be aware that there has been a long-term tradition for Board directors, and previously Council members, to attend show and event weekends in Zones 2 and 3 from time to time. It is seen as an opportunity to meet and greet members and discuss any issues of concern and gain a better understanding of the particular challenges that our members face in the regions. One of these trips happened this last weekend in Townsville and Woodstock and I was really looking forward to going. Unfortunately, I could not go due to ill health, but I gather it was a great success with Directors David Weil, Mandy Schelbach, Vicki Schneider and Senior Vice-President Barb Murfet flying up and attending a dog sports event on the Friday night and helping out at a conformation dog show at Woodstock on the Saturday. I gather Mandy held a very well received junior handler session in the lunch break too. The visit was also a good opportunity for Vicki to conduct some breed training for aspiring judges. Thanks to Director Gordon Mayne for making it all happen and being there too.
Local Councils In recent discussions that Dogs Qld has had with the Ipswich and Brisbane City Councils the importance of our members registering their dogs and complying with council regulations was noted. And as members would know, we recently had an excellent outcome arising from a meeting with Ipswich Council officers, with the Dogs Queensland
members discount on dog registrations being reinstated. So, it is timely to remind members of the importance of checking your local council’s requirements from time to time to ensure your ongoing compliance. Please liaise with the office if you require any assistance in clarifying your council’s requirements. Apart from it being a requirement under our Code of Conduct in Appendix 4 of the Rules to act within the relevant legislation, which of course includes compliance with local council rules, regulations, and by-laws, it is all about our members setting a gold standard as dog owners and dog breeders in our communities. I am hoping we will have the opportunity to address an annual conference of local councils about what we are all about in the next year or so.
”
Stay well, enjoy your dogs, and I wish your horses Happy Birthday! Ulla Greenwood, President Dogs Queensland 1 August 2022

Board Notes – August 2022 SUSPENSION OF REGULATIONS PART 6 – THE REGISTER & REGULATIONS CLAUSE 8.16 – AFGHAN HOUND As a result of concerns received regarding the Afghan Hound survey, the Dogs Australia Board of Directors have resolved to immediately suspend Regulations Part 6 – The Register & Registration Clause 8.16 which reads: 8.16
Afghan Hound (Added 02/22 – 6.1, Effective 1 July 2022)
The Minimum Breeding Age for Afghan bitches is 24 months at the time of mating (unless a veterinary certificate is produced stating that for health reasons the bitch should be mated before 24 months).
Breeders of litters whelped on or after 1 June 2022 will be required to comply with the requirements as a prerequisite to registration of any litter on the ANKC Ltd Main Register. Litters which do not meet the above requirements will only be able to be placed on the Limited Register and will be flagged not to be upgraded.
An investigation into the procedural process and the regulations will be carried out and a report submitted to the October 2022 Board meeting.

APPROVAL OF 2023 NATIONAL SHOW/RESTRICTED TRIALS: POODLE CLUB OF VICTORIA INC Dogs Australia are pleased to advise the approval of the application received from the Poodle Club of Victoria Inc via Dogs Victoria to conduct a National Show with a Restricted Obedience trial to be held on 23 to 24 September 2023 at KCC Park, Skye, Victoria. The Royal Agricultural Society of Victoria has confirmed these dates will not clash with the breed judging at the 2023 Royal Melbourne Show. ROTTWEILER SURVEY RESULTS A Rottweiler Natural Bobtail survey was conducted by Dogs Australia last year to ascertain feedback from all owners of registered Rottweilers as Dogs Australia follows the Country of Origin breed standard and given that the gene involved is an incomplete dominant there is the possibility of bobtail parent/s producing long tail offspring. Only the long tail offspring are eligible to be placed on the Main Register. The response received indicated support. As this was an amendment to current regulations, the result of the survey was referred to the Dogs Australia Board of Directors for consideration at their June 2022 Special Board meeting where it was endorsed. Consequently, the following new clause will be added to Regulations Part 6 – The Register and Registration which will be effective from 1 January 2023: 8.9.2
Effective 1 January 2023, any Rottweiler born a Natural Bobtail will be eligible to be registered on the Limited Register only and flagged NOT TO BE UPGRADED.

Breeder Alert – Puppy Scam Websites Dogs Queensland has become increasingly aware of Puppy Scam Websites using legitimate Dogs Queensland Registration and Queensland Breeder Identification (BIN) Numbers to sell puppies. Dogs Queensland Registration Numbers are obtained from legitimate websites such as Dogs Queensland or DogzOnline, where they are displayed as required by the Queensland Government. Please see the Queensland Dog Breeder Fact Sheets for regulations and guidelines for Queensland Dog Breeders.
An example of a typical scam is: • A Dogs Queensland Membership number is lifted from current advertising on the internet. • The scammer researches and obtains personal details of the breeder including name, suburb, prefix. • A domain name similar to the Kennel prefix is registered on an offshore registry. • Once the breeder has ceased advertising the litter of puppies a new website is published. • No physical address or phone numbers are advertised on the website.

DOG WORLD August 2022
– Suzette Woodruffe The Biewer Terrier is an elegant, long-haired, tri-coloured toy terrier with a breed signature ponytail. Permitted colours are a combination of black, tan and white and blue, tan and white where the tan marking is only permitted on the head and a small amount on the vent. White is required on all four feet, up the legs and up the throat to under the chin. It is both possible and acceptable to have an all-white body or an all-black body coat as long as the legs and feet are white. They have a silky single coat with a part down the back and are longer in the body than square but square is acceptable. The tail is carried high over the back and the long hair on the head is tied up into a bow with a signature ponytail – not a rollover. Weight is from 4-8lb. The Biewer Terrier has a light-hearted whimsical, childlike attitude and has on many occasions been described as a clown. They can be mischievous at times, but are obedient and make loyal family companions. HISTORY The origin of the Biewer Terriers was initiated by Mr and Mrs Biewer in Germany in 1984 and their development continued until in 1988 the breed was accepted by the Internamtionaler Allemeiner Club der Hundefreunde (ACH). The Biewer Terrier was the first breed ever to be recognised as a breed of its own using advancements in science utilising DNA and Principal
Component Analysis rather than the traditional process of pedigree documentation. The PCA process was used to demonstrate that the Biewer Terriers can be clearly distinguished from the Yorkshire Terrier. The Biewer Terrier was introduced into main stream America in 2003 at which time there were only a handful of breeders in America and Germany. The Biewer Terrier was fully recognised in the USA on the 1st January 2021. The first registered Biewer Terriers were introduced into Australia in August 2021 and were fully recognised in Australia with their application/importation on November 3 2021. GROOMING The Biewer Terrier has a long silky coat that if left long requires daily brushing, There is minimal matting with the silkiest coated specimens, but the softer textured coats are more likely to develop matts. If you choose to keep your Biewer in a short trim there is minimal grooming required beyond a regular brush and an occasional bath to keep them fresh and looking their best. Nails need to be kept short and hair on the ears kept short to ensure the ears remain erect. Teeth should be brushed twice per week or as recommended by your vet. EXERCISE The Biewer Terrier is a rather easy going dog. Their playful attitude provides them with a natural means of self exercising along with the time spent playing with their human families. Indoor activities could

17
include chasing a rolling ball along the floor or tug of war with a toy. They also love to go for walks. TRAINING The Biewer Terriers’ dedication and loyalty make them the ideal family pet having a child-like fun loving attitude. This makes them a great companion for people of all ages and able to make friends with other animals of all types. They are extremely intelligent and easy to train although toilet training may take longer. EXHIBITING BIEWER TERRIERS IN AUSTRALIA The show scene in Australia, especially for a newly recognised breed, can be one that is not for the faint hearted. There are so many aspects to learn. The gene pool will be very limited to start with, as with any new breed. Biewer Terriers entering the country from the USA are genetically verified as pure bred
18
DOG WORLD August 2022
and with that Australia has adopted the American Standard on the breed. PREPARING THE COAT FOR THE SHOW RING The Biewer is described as a single coat of silky texture, but in most of the specimens there is the
development of felting next to the skin. The texture is something between the Maltese and the Havanese coat type. It is possible to grow a floor length coat without wrapping the coat on a female specimen but much harder on a male who lifts his leg on his coat. A full coat can still be achieved by banding the side coat or wrapping sections of the male coat. Light oil is recommended between shows to eliminate static breakage. The topknot of the Biewer is positioned futher back on the scull than the Yorkie or Shih Tzu and only a ponytail is the accepted presentation for the breed. Roll over topknots are a disqualifying point in the breed. The ponytail is tied up in a band with a bow and no teasing or back combing is allowed. Product to hold stray hairs into place is permitted. Attention is required to the white feet and legs and staining needs to be minimised for good presentation. Banding an/ or wrapping of the face falls is recommended to grow the best face fall for competition, but is not a main focus in the breed. The best presentation is achieved by bathing and complete drying the morning of competition with light banding to achieve toileting prior to going in the ring. The Biewer Trerrier is shown with a single bow of any colour, but there is a preference among foundation exhibitors and breeders to the colour purple. HEALTH Biewers are on the whole healthy energetic dogs and have a expected life span of 16 years. Care should be taken with the health of the teeth and gums as that can have an impact on the overall health of the Breed.

Scenic Rim Puppy Farm
– David Margan Some months ago, Dogs Queensland, put in a submission to the Scenic Rim Council opposing a development application for a ‘designer dog puppy farm’. We have made inquiries as to the current status of the application and received the following from the Council’s planning department: “The applicant has provided additional supporting material in response to matters raised in the public submissions. This will be published to Council’s DAP Online portal shortly. The application remains currently under assessment, with no Council meeting date set at this stage.” The proposal received thousands of objections mostly focusing on issues of animal welfare and the potential negative effects on neighbouring properties. While the Council says the application is still under assessment, unfortunately, it appears that council officers will approve the development application. The core issue here is that they simply have no other choice as issues of animal welfare are not part of Queensland’s Planning Act 2016 legislation. Consequently, Council officers can’t consider animal welfare, nor the Queensland Animal Welfare Standards and Guidelines for Breeding Dogs and their Progeny in deciding
20
DOG WORLD August 2022
their assessment. The Council states: “these Guidelines primarily apply to the operation of the use and is thus a compliance matter, and not primarily a development assessment matter.” This is a serious and non-sensical omission from Queensland’s planning process whereby the welfare of the inmates of this puppy factory is not an issue to be considered. One also wonders what compliance inspections the Council is referring to as the Council doesn’t conduct any animal welfare checks. The Council officers claim that: “The applicant is therefore proposing a lawful use in a zone that is intended for the use. There is identified demand for the dog breeds that are proposed by the applicant, and thus the proposal represents an excellent opportunity for a viable rural activity to be established, which will strengthen the Scenic Rim economy.” So, money matters not animal welfare and they are simply prepared to accept the ‘word of the applicants in regard to welfare matters. “The applicant has shown through the wellconsidered kennel design and operational information provided in this application that they will be responsible operators who will take their duty of care to the breeding dogs very seriously.”
Even more amazingly the Council Town Planning officers, in response to a submission by our own Helen Weil, also went on to claim, without any expertise or evidence, the following; “The submitter claims that the proposed breeding kennel “has nothing to do with breeding healthy, sound, well-adjusted and well-socialised puppies.” This is refuted by the Enrichment program outlined in Attachment 3, which will provide the breeding dogs with daily exercise and enjoyment. Further, the owner-operators are deliberately crossbreeding to achieve dogs that better suite modern Australian lifestyles, which in turn will reduce the number of less-suitable dogs ending up in rescue centres and pounds. Further, crossbreeding eliminates the transfer of breed-specific genetic disorders to puppies, resulting in healthier dogs. So, this proposal will provide companion dogs that are healthy and well-socialised.” While animal welfare has no place in their DA assessment now, they’re breeding and welfare experts who have ignored the mountain of evidence that ‘puppy farms’ fail in any duty of care. They are being progressively banned in Europe and yet the Scenic Rim Council, with no canine expertise or knowledge, is prepared to simply accept the word of the applicants that everything will be alright. “They will not be outsourcing the responsibility for the operation of the kennel to others and are completely committed to running a dog breeding
kennel of the highest standards.” In mounting support for the application Council officers also refer to what the applicants have referred to a , “a proposed Enrichment program for breeding dogs.” where an ‘enrichment’ area will accommodate five daily rotation activities. This was not contained in the original development application but has been added in response to the torrent of opposition to the proposal. Whether any of it will see the light of day is another question and it’s a pity that the Scenic Rim Council didn’t seek our advice about breeding and animal welfare matters. Our only hope now is to lobby all the individual Scenic Rim Councillors to encourage them to vote down this Development Application. And I urge our membership to lobby the Scenic Rim Councillors with the facts and our objections to this proposed ‘designer dog puppy farm.’ That’s exactly what happened to a similar application that was initially approved by council officers of the Sunshine Coast Council, but the elected Councillors rejected their advice and voted the application down 8-1. The Qld Planning Act needs amendment, there needs to be a greater co-cooperation and resourcing between State and Local government when comes to issues of animal welfare. At the moment dogs are falling through the cracks.

DIRECTOR PROFILE Barb Murfet – David Margan When I first came upon Barbara Murfet, she reminded me of a once famous Hollywood starlet incognito with her black hat and shades, which made her laugh when I told her. But to everyone she is simply known as ‘Barb’. I really got to know her better when she lent enormous assistance in the filming of 147 handlers and 172 dogs for the re-launch of the ANKC as Dogs Australia. We simply would have had a nightmare on our hands but for Barbara’s wrangling, support, and humour. Barbara Murfet has been a member of Dogs Queensland since 1976 and there is hardly a thing, she hasn’t done to further the cause of Dogs Queensland in that time. Barbara was made a Councilor in 2007 and has been elected as a Director in 2013, 2015 and again in 2019 and is currently our Senior Vice President. Of course, anyone entering our world does so with dogs in tow and over the years Barbara has trialled and shown Irish, English and Gordon Setters and shown Cavalier King Charles Spaniels. Her first dog was ‘Misty’, an Irish Setter, a breed very popular in the 70’s. But Barbara’s’ principal obsession has been Dog Sports and it would fair to say she has driven the cause and is the one person who is responsible for them being such a rapidly growing and popular skill set in our dog world. In fact, in 2008 the ANKC tasked her with setting up a working party to investigate whether Dances with Dogs could and should be an ANKC discipline. In 2009 that happened, and she has been the Chairperson of the ANKC National Dances with Dogs (DWD) Committee ever since. Barbara was involved in pretty much the same exercise that saw Trick Dogs also become an ANKC discipline in 2020. Her list of key roles in the growing world of dog
24
DOG WORLD August 2022
sports is endless and she is also an internationally experienced judge specializing in Obedience, Rally, Agility, Dances with Dogs and Trick Dogs. She has also trained judges and has been closely involved in developing “Competency Based Judges Training” and “Distance Education” for Judges in North and Central Queensland, has trained judges in Malaysia, assessed judges in the Northern Territory and developed Theory examinations for the ACT, Victoria and the Northern Territory. For many years Barbara has been RNA Chief Steward and Coordinator for dog sports activities at the EKKA and for the All Dog Sports Spectacular and these two are perhaps our biggest annual events. This year she has been made an Honorary Councillor. Her fundamental rationale is that an active engaged dog is a happy dog, and it is that view that has driven her to grow activities and new disciplines for our dogs. Her other passion is to share the knowledge she has acquired over the years. It’s one of the main reasons she is so well known and regarded. But it hasn’t all worked, trying to build a better platform for breeder accreditation was less than successful. I asked her about other failures or moments of embarrassment, all she could think of was a dramatically split skirt during judging requiring the urgent application of needle and thread. As for the future, Barb is going to keep going, working on greater utilization of not only the vast space of our Durack Showgrounds but greater time utilization as well. And the continuing job of spreading the word, growing even more disciplines and the attendant growth in membership and encouraging and mentoring people to take her place.

Backpacking With Your Dog
– Article and images: Sandy Koch, Windchill Dog Gear Backpacking is an enjoyable activity for you and your dog, whether it be a long hiking trip or just a walk to the shops for some supplies. Anyone can have a go at hiking with their dog as long as the dog is in good health, is reasonably fit and you have the right equipment.
Backpacks can also be put to good use when you and your dog have a bit of shopping to carry home.
Training your dog
Training should begin with walking you dog with an empty or lightly loaded pack to get him or her used to the feel of it, and to ensure that the pack is The only specialised equipment you’ll need is a fitted correctly and is comfortable for the dog. It is canine backpack for your dog. You’ll also require a sturdy lead (6 – 8 feet long is ideal) and comfortable advisable to load the saddle bags with light bulky collar, dog-towel (if conditions are wet), food, water padding so that they are full and sit correctly on the dog. and water bowl for your dog, and a basic first aid kit as well as your own requirements. Be aware Once the dog is used to wearing the pack, gradually that Malamutes and Huskies are breeds that must increase the weight and the distance of your walks. be walked on lead at all times – wildlife will almost By building up the weight in this way, any problems certainly be encountered on your hike and will with your dog or the backpack should become often pose an irresistible temptation to even the apparent before you find yourself miles from most obedient Malamutes and Huskies! anywhere participating in a long distance hike. If you are just interested in hiking with your dog for fun, you can put items such as food, drink and clothing in his pack – as much or as little as you like, keeping in mind that the dog should not carry more than 30% of his body weight.
26
DOG WORLD August 2022
Any reasonably fit, healthy, sound and mature dog should be able to carry a loaded backpack on a long hike. Having said that, it is always advisable to take your dog to a vet and/or veterinary chiropractor before you embark on any
strenuous event to ensure that your dog is in peak condition and doesn’t have any underlying health or structural problems. For breeds prone to hip dysplasia, having their hips x-rayed and assessed for hip dysplasia may also be advisable. Please note that hiking with a loaded backpack is not a suitable activity for some breeds due to their structure (such as the Achondroplastic breeds) or high risk of breathing problems (such as the Brachycephalic breeds). Undetected health problems may be exacerbated by working activities such as weight-pulling, sledding and backpacking, and you and your dog certainly don’t want any unpleasant surprises when you are at an event a long way from help. If your dog does develop a serious problem it could be several hours before you can get veterinary attention. For this reason, and for your own safety, it is always best if you hike with someone else. As larger breeds such as the Malamute can be slow to physically mature, we do not backpack our dogs with loaded packs until they are at least 18 months of age. Keep in mind that every dog is different, but most fit, healthy puppies over 6 months may be able to do a short walk with a very lightly loaded pack, and from 12 months can do longer walks with a moderate load in the pack. In all cases, we watch our dogs very carefully throughout the hike for signs of discomfort. Some indications that a dog is not coping well with carrying a backpack are: – dog lagging behind – dog dragging his feet – dog reluctant to move or get up after a break Assess your dog and be objective, if he is not appearing to enjoy the hike then relieve him of his load. Let’s face it, I’m sure the dog would enjoy the hike just as much, or even more, if he didn’t have to carry a pack. Offer your dog water at frequent intervals and plan plenty of rest stops during longer hikes. Use your rest stops to relieve your dog of the weight of the pack and check that the pack is sitting comfortably on the dog and not rubbing. If you have a 2-piece pack (separate saddle section and pannier bag section) and are only stopping for a short time, you have the advantage of being able to remove the weight of the pannier bags from your dog without having to undo the straps and remove the whole

pack. If the pack or your dog gets wet during the hike, it is advisable to dry the dog and pack off as much as possible before recommencing your walk.
the legs of the dog as he walks, and the saddle should not extend beyond the upper section of the back.
If you are hoping to achieve a backpacking title for your dog please do not put your dog’s welfare at risk – if he’s not enjoying it don’t force him to keep walking and carrying weight for the sake of earning a title. The dog doesn’t care if he has a title or not.
The pack must be loaded and the straps adjusted so that it remains centred along the topline of the dog and cannot slip from side to side. The weight in each side of the pack must be equal, so if weight is taken from one side (ie water is consumed from a drink container in one side of the pack) the weights in the pack will need to be redistributed.
The Backpack
The most important piece of equipment for hiking with your dog will be the backpack. This is not an item that should be scrimped on, if you are intending to do some long hikes or pursue a title for your dog it’s well worth the expense to get a sturdy, waterproof 2-piece backpack. It is important that you have a pack of suitable size for your dog and that you know how to adjust the pack so that it is fitted correctly and is most comfortable for the dog. The backpack should sit over the withers (shoulders), so that the weight is transferred down to the ground through the front legs and feet. The pack should never put pressure on the dogs lower back. The lower back is the weakest area of the dog’s spine as there is no support from the rib cage or pelvis, and this area should never bear any weight. If you are not sure that your dogs pack is fitted correctly, please check with an experienced backpacker. A badly fitted pack will be uncomfortable for the dog, may rub and, in the worst case, cause injury. The pack should also not be too large. The pannier bags should not hang so low that they hit against
28
DOG WORLD August 2022
It is important that the weight is loaded and distributed in the pack in such a way that it does not shift while the dog is walking. If the weights can shift in the pack it will result in redistribution of the weight along the dog’s topline towards the lower back which may lead to injury. It is better to have a smaller pack that is fully loaded than a larger pack that is half empty – the former will sit more comfortably on the dog. It is best to place the lighter items lower down and towards the rear of the saddle bags, with heavier items up higher and towards the front. This keeps the majority of the weight over the shoulders of the dog rather than on the back. If your dog is negotiating obstacles on a walk, such as climbing over a log, assist your dog by taking the weight of the pack. In difficult situations it is advisable to remove the dog’s pack and put it back on after the obstacle has been safely negotiated to prevent injury to the dog.
Working Pack Dog Titles
The Australian National Kennel Council (ANKC) now offers Working Pack Dog titles as part of the Sled Sports program to registered dogs
(eligibility criteria apply). The working pack dog program requires dogs to carry either 15% or 30% of their body weight on four 16 kilometre hikes to qualify for the Working Novice Pack Dog (WNDP) or Working Pack Dog (WPD) title respectively. A dog weighing 40 kilograms would therefore have to carry 12 kilograms of weight for the WPD title progam, which is the equivalent of 12 litres of water. It is recommended that you and your dog don’t attempt this unless you are both fit, healthy and have done some training. Many of the trails involve hilly terrain and may have some steeper trails, so make sure your training includes some hill work and is not just in flatter areas. Walking on the flat does not prepare you or your dog for hilly trails, as different muscle groups come into play when walking up and down inclines. You will require a sturdy backpack which is sufficiently large to hold the required weights, so it’s best to get some advice before going to the expense of buying a pack. The weight is usually made up of something that is dense yet can mould to the shape of your dog: bags of rice, bags of damp sand and/or a soft pack of water (similar to the bladder of a wine cask) are suitable. To qualify for a pack dog title, the only permissible reduction in pack weight over the duration of the hike is by consumption of food and water by your dog, so making up some of the weight with water for your dog is strongly advised. Be aware that there are many areas in which you are not permitted to have a dog, including National
Parks, so check before your big excursion that you and your dog won’t be breaking any laws just by being there. Many breed clubs hold several backpacking events each year and anyone with a healthy and fairly fit dog can go along. Contact your State canine association for further information about backpacking with your dog, backpacking events and the working dog title program. If you are interested in trying your dog out at backpacking visit the Alaskan Malamute Club, Victoria website at www.amcv.org.au for more information and details of backpacking events. DOG WORLD August 2022
Okie Ch Lurikeen To Glam T Give A Damn – owned by Ashlea Stanton and Julie Harris
‘THE FUTURE LOOKS BRIGHT’ I have been showing since 9 years old and in 2001 purchased my first Shetland Sheepdog. I now share the prefix Lurikeen with my mother Julie and together we have campaigned 3 Supreme Champions, Neuter Grand Champion and multiple Australian Champions, including breeding an International Champion. These dogs have won multiple awards from Best Exhibit in Show’s, Amish Challenge Awards and Western Australia’s prestige Contest of Winners. We have been feeding Eukanuba for over three years. At the time, we had a young puppy who was struggling, unable to maintain her weight and our vet recommended we change her diet so we decided to try her on a bag of Eukanuba we had won. This was the best thing we did for her. Not only did she put on weight, but she managed to maintain it and, in the process, grew an amazing coat. We are well known for our dogs having beautiful coats, but we hadn't had a puppy with a coat like this before. We made the decision to change the whole team over to Eukanuba Premium Performance Sport and Eukanuba Puppy and our dogs' coats and overall health have never been better. The future looks bright for our up and coming youngsters, they are thriving, our sensitive stomach dogs have changed over with no issues and the results speak for themselves within our show team.
