AMENDMENT TO BREED STANDARD EXTENION – WELSH CORGI (CARDIGAN) A submission received from the National Welsh Corgi Council (Australia) has been considered by the National Breed Standards Coordination Group and their recommendation to approve the changes to the breed standard extension of the Welsh Corgi (Cardigan) has been endorsed by the ANKC Executive Committee. The changes are noted below and the ANKC are currently arranging for the breed standard extension to be updated accordingly and it will be made available from our website in due course.
COLOUR – Page 10 Currently reads: Any colour, with or without white markings should not predominate. The Cardigan comes in many beautiful colours and shadings. The colours found in the show ring today are red/white, tricolor, brindle of various shadings, sable, black/white and the lovely blue merle with the marbled mixture of blue, grey, and black hairs. White markings on the chest, feet, tip of tail and sometimes a collar, add to the beauty of such colours. Amend to read: COLOUR Acceptable colours are blue merle, brindle, red, sable, tri colour with brindle points and tri colour with red points. All the above with or without the typical white markings on the head, neck, chest, underpants, legs and feet, white tail tip. White should not predominate on the body or head where it should never surround the eyes. Nose and eye rims must be black. Liver and dilute colours highly undesirable. The Main Differences Between the Welsh Corgi Cardigan and Pembroke – Page 11 Currently reads: Cardigan Colour May be any colour without white dominating. Amend to read: Cardigan Colour Blue merle, brindle, red, sable, tri colour with brindle points and tri colour with red points. With or without white markings head, chest, neck, legs and feet, white tail tip. Eye rims black and white must not predominate. The changes are noted below and the ANKC are currently arranging for the breed standard to be updated on our website. The amended breed standard extension will be made available from our website in due course. Currently reads: Tail: Short, preferably natural. Docked: Short. Undocked: Set in line with the topline. Natural Carriage above topline when moving or alert. Amend to read: Tail: Previously customarily docked short. Undocked: set in line with the topline. Natural carriage which may be above or below topline when moving or alert. Natural bobtails may occur, when the tail can be of any length, carried above or below topline when moving or alert:
FCI BREED TO BE ADDED TO THE NATIONAL BUSINESS SYSTEM: SHIKOKU Please note an application has been received for reregistration of the following FCI recognized breed: Shikoku The ANKC are currently arranging for this breed to be added to the business system and for their website to be updated with the relevant breed standard. In addition, the ANKC Group listing will be updated with this breed being allocated to Group 6 (Utility) as confirmed by the National Breed Standards Coordination Group.
At the June 2021 ANKC Ltd Special Board meeting, Directors resolved/considered the following:
1. Ehrlichiosis in Dogs
It was RESOLVED to publish on the ANKC and all Member Body websites and social media pages an article authored by Dr Karen Hedberg BVSc, Chairperson of the ANKC Canine Health & Wellbeing Committee, regarding an emerging disease – Ehrlichiosis in Dogs.
2. * ANKC Ltd Canine Hip & Elbow Dysplasia Report Submission Form: Amendment
It was RESOLVED to that the ANKC Ltd Canine Hip & Elbow Dysplasia Report Submission Form be amended to include a check box confirming the dog has not previously been scored under the ANKC Ltd Canine Hip & Elbow Dysplasia Scheme.
3. * ANKC Ltd Regulations Part 6 – The Register & Registration
It was RESOLVED that Regulations Part 6 – The Register & Registration, Section 8 – Breeding, Clause 8.17.2 be amended with the addition of dot point (g) to read:
8.17.2 Once agreed they should develop a proposed breed survey rationale, with questions that must be answered and a proposed date of commencement (after the Breed Survey (BS) is completed). The following outline should be followed to develop the required breed survey: a. Description of the condition; b. Severity of the condition designated as a problem in the breed; c. Mode of inheritance if known; d. Percentage (with known DNA testable conditions) of affected carrier and normal in the current population. These can be obtained from the major testing facilities both locally and overseas; e. Desired breeding strategy for DNA testable diseases - with the desired strategy being to not produce any more affected progeny and at the same time keep as diverse a gene pool as possible. f. For non DNA testable diseases the breeding aim is to lower the incidence of severe inherited disease across the breed as a whole.
g. And are of sufficient maturity from which to be bred.
4. * ANKC Ltd Regulations Part 6 – The Register & Registration
8.17.4 Once the final wording has been accepted, the BS made available to all owners and breeders of the breed involved in each State/Territory journal, website and social media pages in a timely manner.
It was RESOLVED that ANKC allow inter-variety breeding of Peruvian Hairless Dogs in accordance with FCI regulations effective from 1 July 2021.
As a result Regulations Part 6 – The Register & Registration, Section 9 – Breed Varieties – Judging & Interbreeding, Clause 9.14 will be amended to read:
9.14 Peruvian Hairless Dog – Small: Peruvian Hairless Dog – Medium: Peruvian Hairless Dog – Large (Amended 10/13 – 5.6.4)
a. Judged separately with each variety receiving separate Challenge Certificates. b. Inter variety breeding is approved, only bred to the nearest variety in size – or risk of whelping problems. c. Reclassified on size type is permitted as follows: 1) Where a Peruvian Hairless Dog fails to reach or develops beyond the height for which it is registered then, up to twelve months of age, it may be measured and re-registered within the actual size that the dog has achieved. 2) Three [3] licensed judges selected by ANKC Ltd shall carry out the measuring. 3) The three [3] judges shall be residents of the same State or Territory as that in, which the dog resides. 4) The measuring device used shall be that approved by ANKC Ltd. 5) Any challenge points awarded to the dog under the size of its original registration shall be cancelled, upon re-registration. (10/07, 6.2.7) d. LONG COAT Long coat to long coat will always give long coat (as a single recessive gene). e. COLOUR Never breed Merle to Merle – ¼ will be homozygote for lethal/health defects, such as deafness
Note: This amendment to the regulations will be effective 1 July 2021.
6. * ANKC Ltd Regulations Part 8 – Member Bodies & Membership
It was RESOLVED that Regulations Part 8-Member Bodies & Membership, Section 6: Stationery/Certificates be amended to read:-
“I certify that this exhibit has not within the said period of three weeks been in premises affected with Distemper, Canine Hepatitis, Parvo Virus or any other contagious disease and is currently vaccinated in accordance with current World Small Animal Veterinary Association International Vaccination Committee (WSAVA IVC) policies.” (10/09, 8.10) (Amended 10/15, 6.1.8) (Amended 06/21, 4.2)
7. * ANKC Ltd Regulations Part 3N – Regulations for the Conduct of Scent Work Trials/Judges Training Scheme
It was RESOLVED that Regulations 3N – Regulations for the Conduct of Scent Work Trials/Judges Training Scheme, Clause 1.1 be amended to read:
1.1 Responsibility for the accreditation of Scent Work Judges will rest with:
(a) the ANKC National Scent Work Committee, for a period of twelve months (1) year from the date of implementation; (b) thereafter the relevant Member Body through its Scent Work Sub-Committee.
