Board Notes – July 2021 AMENDMENT TO BREED STANDARD EXTENION – WELSH CORGI (CARDIGAN) A submission received from the National Welsh Corgi Council (Australia) has been considered by the National Breed Standards Coordination Group and their recommendation to approve the changes to the breed standard extension of the Welsh Corgi (Cardigan) has been endorsed by the ANKC Executive Committee. The changes are noted below and the ANKC are currently arranging for the breed standard extension to be updated accordingly and it will be made available from our website in due course. COLOUR – Page 10 Currently reads: Any colour, with or without white markings should not predominate. The Cardigan comes in many beautiful colours and shadings. The colours found in the show ring today are red/white, tricolor, brindle of various shadings, sable, black/white and the lovely blue merle with the marbled mixture of blue, grey, and black hairs. White markings on the chest, feet, tip of tail and sometimes a collar, add to the beauty of such colours. Amend to read: COLOUR Acceptable colours are blue merle, brindle, red, sable, tri colour with brindle points and tri colour with red points. All the above with or without the typical white markings on the head, neck, chest, underpants, legs and feet, white tail tip. White should not predominate on the body or head where it should never surround the eyes. Nose and eye rims must be black. Liver and dilute colours highly undesirable. The changes are noted below and the ANKC are currently arranging for the breed standard to be updated on our website. The amended breed standard extension will be made available from our website in due course. Currently reads: Tail: Short, preferably natural. Docked: Short. Undocked: Set in line with the topline. Natural Carriage above topline when moving or alert. Amend to read: Tail: Previously customarily docked short. Undocked: set in line with the topline. Natural carriage which may be above or below topline when moving or alert. Natural bobtails may occur, when the tail can be of any length, carried above or below topline when moving or alert: FCI BREED TO BE ADDED TO THE NATIONAL BUSINESS SYSTEM: SHIKOKU Please note an application has been received for reregistration of the following FCI recognized breed: Shikoku
