Colour Me Crazy

took place at Riversands Farm on Saturday, 21 September 2013 and it was a huge success!

Thousands flocked from all

over Johannesburg to join the 5 km run, which was followed by a colourful music festival that included electro hop music duo Locnville, Roger Goode, Crazy White Boy, and many other hot artists! The event was well organised with participants having the option of collecting their race packs and t-shirt a week prior to the event, thus helping to keep queues and foot traffic to a minimum on the day.

Under a blue sky and golden sunlight, the 5 km run started at 11 a.m. and went through until 12:30 p.m. Along the route, about a kilometre apart, were different coloured stations where the volunteers would throw handfuls of colour, either orange, yellow, green, blue or pink, at the runners as they passed by. Some runners, like myself, stood still with arms spread out, waiting to be splashed with colour from every angle. At one stage I even managed to get orange powder up my nose and in my mouth, but I am sure that there were plenty of other runners who suffered the same fate.

By the end of the run, we were multi-coloured, with not an inch of our skin colour showing.

Carrying smiles that were plastered across our faces, we went to explore what Colour Me Crazy had to offer.

On entering the grounds, everyone received a packet of powder to add even more colour to the festivities, but you could go back and buy as many as our inner hippie desired for more colour! The atmosphere throughout the day was incredibly festive, with with many people dressing up for the occasion. Some wore tutus, wigs, and face paint, while others went the whole hog and wore full-on costumes! Those who wore costumes showed true dedication to the colour celebration, as it was blazing hot during the day and yet these troopers stayed in their costumes until the bitter end. The organisers were once again on top of their game when it came to keeping us entertained. Three skydivers jumped out of a plane with streams of coloured powder flowing behind them as they spiralled down towards the cheering crowd - which I am sure looked like waves of colour from above.

MC Stephanie B and various artists kept the vibe rocking throughout the day. And when the artists started engaging with the crowds, the energy was electric as the crowd went from mild to wild. There were plenty of bars scattered around the premises, which meant that there were no long queues to get a much-needed cold beverage in the sizzling heat. Overall, it was an amazing run, with the festivities after the race making this event that much more memorable.

SO If you weren't there, keep an eye out for the next event in your area and colour yourself crazy.
