Introducing Dole Europe BV, a fresh concept in European fresh produce retail provision.
Launched on January 1st and headquartered in the Netherlands, Dole Europe B.V. will work in tandem with tropical fruit specialist Dole Europe GmbH in Hamburg, acting as the central focal point for Dole’s non-tropical fruit operations across continental Europe. Bringing together the relative strengths of former Total Produce businesses, most notably local infrastructure and market expertise, alongside Dole’s global production and logistical resources and reach Dole Europe will focus exclusively on anticipating and meeting evolving retailer requirements and is dedicated to extracting costs and adding value across the supply chain while delivering a demonstrably superior service to customers across the continent.
Our ambition is clear. We believe that the coming together of Dole Food Company and Total Produce has created a new kind of produce business, one with unique strengths and advantages. In Dole, we believe that by understanding the consumer we can better serve the consumer and, by extension, our customers across Europe.
Dole’s Consumer pan-European research project began life as “Kostministeriet”, meaning “the Ministry of Food” in Sweden. Dedicated to providing deeper insights into what motivates and inhibits consumers from eating more fresh fruits and vegetables, in 2022 its scope was broadened to cover 10 different European countries. Using a variety of complementary research methods Dole Consumer Compass, so named given its objective to “point us in the right direction”, seeks to deliver a deeper understanding of consumers than traditional research provides. It is used to support generic promotion of produce, for New Product Development and for category management purposes with retail partners. 10,000 people were interviewed across 10 European countries; Austria, Germany, Belgium, France, Czech Republic, Denmark, Sweden, Finland, Poland, and the Netherlands.
By garnering a deeper understanding of consumer perceptions of fresh fruits and vegetables our hope is to inform our approach to meeting the expectations of consumers and customers across the continent, driving consumption and promoting better health and well-being.

For its soil and climate conditions, Panque and Maria Pinto are among the best areas for avocado crops in Chile. Three of the four farms (Alto Panquehue, La Ensenada and La Puntilla) in Chile are located in Panquehue (V Region of Chile). The fourth farm is located in Maria Pinto (Metropolitan region of Chile).
Volumes
A total of 3,757 hectares is managed of which 2,087 hectares are planted (1,686 hectares of avocados).
In Columbia the avocado production is consolidated and secured from two areas: DVSSSAS and Wakate. DVSSAS includes 980 hectares of avocados and Wakate 1,000 hectares are planted today. The full ambition of Wakate is to reach up to 2,500 hectares.

The two growers will have 3,000 – 4,000 hectares combined and produce 18,000 – 20,000 tons for export.
Dole South Africa’s current avocado supply is sourced from the Limpopo Province. The warm subtropical conditions are ideal for supply and 60% of South Africa’s avocado volume is sourced from this region.

The estimated average 5-year annual production of avocados in South Africa is 132,600 tons of which 46% is exported to Europe and the United Kingdom.
The heart of our operation is located 5 km from the center of Petrolina where we can centralize the processing of mangoes for export and the entire operation for the domestic market. This strategic location enables shipments via Fortaleza (850 km) and Natal (950 km).

The Dole Organics unit within Dole Europe B.V. is dedicated to raising the bar in the Organics category. Sometimes big is beautiful, after all. We’re determined to bring the full resources of Dole to bear to “professionalise provenance” by investing in Organic, nurturing relationships with the most accomplished Organic Growers adding value through our Local Grower Academy and investing in packaging and promotion to drive the category as a whole. Our Dole GO Organic! brand will be available from March 2023.
