To add a piece of Collette Dinnigan clothing to their wardrobe was a rite of passage for many Australian women. A Dinnigan frock – perfectly engineered for the female form – represented financial prowess and reaching a certain maturity of fashion taste. And yet, Dinnigan reveals that same sense of personal achievement, while appreciated, came at the expense of her family. Now, she has whisked them to Italy; her pen poised to write children’s novels. Dinnigan met journalist Jane Rocca at a Stella Artois Buy A Lady A Drink (BALAD) charity event recently, and shares her story. ●

FIRST PERSON
““I am Dr Amelia Judson J ” … and I’m a dentist and former DJ I was 12 when I decided that dentistry was for me.
I grew up in a little New South Wales country town called Bogan Gate where my family had lived for over 100 years and there wasn’t a lot of access to services. It was a six-week wait to see a doctor or dentist, and I was fascinated every time – I never had a bad experience. I can understand how people are traumatised by it, though. I studied dentistry in Orange. Going to a rural university was really interesting, because there’s a lot of hands-on experience. It was also a good representation of what the situation is like in the country. I saw lots of people suffering from methamphetamine addiction, and I saw exactly how much it obliterates the mouth. I DJ’ed my way through uni. I’d always played musical instruments but I was bad at keeping tempo. I started out in pubs and worked my way up. My biggest goal was to play at Future Sound Festival, and I played there on my 20th birthday. People often ask if I miss being a DJ, but the club scene isn’t for me. My niche areas these days are cosmetic dentistry and facial aesthetics. You get a lot of different personalities in dentistry, and each personality has its strengths. You have these people who are very detail oriented and do PhDs as a hobby. I am not one of those. I really like being hands-on, and I like getting to the bottom of what the patient wants. Sometimes something as simple as giving a patient a denture makes a big difference. How the world perceives you and how you perceive yourself has a big impact on your psyche. It’s a mentally demanding job, but physically you do get tired, too. People say, “Oh, you sit there all day”, but it’s actually back-breaking in the sense that you have to have good posture and you end up in some awkward positions. I’m always impressed when I’m able to do four extractions in a pair of heels, though. I have quite crowded teeth down the bottom, but I don’t really show them when I smile. I could change them, but I like the character it adds. There’s beauty in difference. ● ● smilesolutions.com.au

hat the king of television Graham Kennedy was to live variety shows in 1970s Australia, Generation Y’s Joel Creasey could easily be his modern day reincarnate. A savvy showman with a cheeky sense of humour, the 28-year-old Perth-raised comedian has got the gift of the gab and enough mainstream appeal to be a rating’s winner. Now, Creasey finds himself on Channel 7 in a career-first as host of new dating show, Take Me Out – and he’s wearing a bow tie for the occasion. Seven isn’t the only television network picking up on his vivacious style – you can add a gig on SBS hosting Eurovision with Myf Warhurst and Channel 10’s Show Me The Movie. Creasey moved to Melbourne from Perth at 19 to try his luck in small comedy venues, aiming to crack the Melbourne Comedy Festival circuit – until he did. His debut show Slumber Party in 2010 earned him a nomination for the best newcomer award. He’s now happily basking in the glow of fame and lapping up the attention. It’s the way Creasey mixes his vulnerability with humour that’s made him a popular TV personality. He’s the sweet boy next door with a hint of brat, and a sassiness. He even caught the attention of the late Joan Rivers. After appearing on the first season of Australia’s version of I’m A Celebrity … Get Me Out of Here! in 2015 he gathered more followers and within two years penned his first book – an ambitious move from a newcomer but Thirsty hit the spot for this impatient go-getter. With a patchy dating history and a preference for Tinder hook-ups, Creasey is stereotypically Generation Y – in which using a phone is how you navigate the modern world. It’s also the way to find romance. “Everybody loves a little bit of romance,” says Creasey, while having his hair and make-up done for this cover shoot. “Everything my generation does is online. That’s how we’re programmed, so it’s good to have a show like Take Me Out that puts women in the same room as a potential date and we get to see what happens.” For someone with a preference for digital connections, he met his model boyfriend Jack Stratton-Smith in Perth a year and a half ago. “We talk over Facebook and Instagram a lot, it’s a modern day fairy-tale in the making,” he jokes. Take Me Out is modelled on the UK game show, but Creasey brings his own voyeurism to the screen.
“To follow Hannah [Gadsby] and be the next Aussie comedian to be in that spotlight was both terrifying and amazing at once.” JOEL CREASEY
It’s all razzle dazzle and bright pink lights and Creasey cheers on the gals to find their perfect match. There’s gents who crack watermelons between their thighs to win a date, alongside mediums also keen to score extra love points and a date. Creasey undertook an intensive training course to get to know the 30 female contestants and learn their likes and dislikes in men. Recorded at Fox Studio Sydney in front of an audience of 500, there are nerves, but nothing the chirpy comedian couldn’t handle. Since Hannah Gadsby’s Netflix comedy show Nanette went viral this year, Creasey is next in line with the streaming giant. He has just finished filming his comedy show and thrilled at the opportunity. “To follow Hannah and be the next Aussie comedian to be in that spotlight was both terrifying and amazing at once. I am forever grateful Netflix chose me,” he says. Creasey’s parents Terry and Jenny are his biggest fans. They’re holidaying in Italy now (their seventh holiday this year), but they speak to their son every day. His mother was an extra in Star Wars: The Empire Strikes Back and his father was the model in the 1980s’ Solo soft drink advertisements. The couple met in London where they both worked as actors and moved back to Australia to start a family. Creasey has two sisters: Holly, four years older and Alice, four years younger. “I love my parents but they’re always trying to give me advice,” he yawns. “Sometimes mum offers up subjects she’d like to see me explore on stage and I’m like, OK mum, you can stop right there. That’s a bit much.” Creasey will spend the remainder of the year writing a new comedy show to tour Australia with. He finds inspiration for material at dinner parties, has written about exes who have dumped him, his affair with a footballer, and loves nothing more than couch time watching reality TV shows. “I have created this very busy life,” he exhales. “I guess away from work I love to spend time with Jack. He is up for anything and gets lots of attention because he’s a model and very good looking. I mean everyone’s a model on Instagram in 2018, right? “Well, he actually pays the bills that way.” ● TAKE ME OUT \ Every Tuesday at 7.30pm on Channel Seven.

COVER STORY
When in Rome ... Former fashion designer Collette Dinnigan follows her heart to Italy.
LOUIE DOUVIS
A
ustralian fashion designer Collette Dinnigan has moved to Rome because her love affair with Italy isn’t over yet. Last month, she relocated to the ancient city with her husband Bradley Cocks and two children (Estella, 14 and Hunter, 6), just two-and-a-half years since they last lived there. With a 20-plus year career as one of the country’s most celebrated fashion designers now behind her, Dinnigan is all about embracing new life experiences in her 50s. She’s signed up for life drawing classes and, while abroad, will write two children’s books, which aren’t due for release until 2019 and 2020. And there’s the renovation of an old farmhouse they purchased in Puglia – a 500-year-old masserie where Dinnigan will bring her interior and design
touches to what will be a labour of love. “I have always been back and forth between Sydney and Rome and never quite settled into Italy full-time,” Dinnigan says. “I am finally ready to do it. I never quite grasped the Italian language when I was there and I plan to go to back to school full-time and learn the language properly. Bradley and I love the art, culture and love of family in Italy. It’s a perfect destination for us.” Tucked in the olive groves of rural Puglia, Dinnigan is excited to split her time between country and city living. “Puglia is a wild, rugged part of Italy that nobody has really discovered. I love the figs drying on the rooftops, it’s where most of the olive oil and wine is grown and it’s 10 minutes from the sea.”

Her desire to connect to the land comes from her holistic view on life – she is ever mindful of her footprint. Even when she was busy running her fashion empire, she asked the factories she used in India and mills in Germany to explain how they were tackling water pollution. Now, she’s also behind charitable causes such as Matt Damon’s Water.org in conjunction with Stella Artois, which aims to provide clean water to families in Third World countries. “I have a very holistic approach in all I do,” she says. “With the drought in Australia, the lack of water really makes you realise that people can’t live without it and crops can’t grow. “It’s a very dramatic situation we’re in and I am definitely worried about it. Getting behind Water. org makes sense because it’s a worthy cause and clean water is a fundamental right.” When Dinnigan tied the knot with Cocks in Positano in 2011, the couple sealed more than their marital fate. They also bonded over a love of exploring Italy. “For two decades I went to Paris and loved it, but every time I went there for Fashion

Singer Michael Buble put his career on hold for his son’s cancer fight. Fans rejoice: Buble’s back.
Soul session
You must have felt the support from fans. Undoubtedly, and all the time. They have never let up in their support of Noah, and it’s incredible the very real strength you can take from that. It’s also been really profound and a beautiful thing to think that perhaps I can now offer real support to other parents, from a perspective where I really know what this feels like. I never had that before and when we say we are with people, sometimes we can only imagine what it is to be with people – we don’t actually, really know. Well, I feel I do know on this one now. Did you lose your passion for performing? For a long while, I did. That’s because you gain a very real perspective on what is important in life and what isn’t. And this world, performing, became absolutely incidental to the thing that really matters – family. In a single second it couldn’t have become any less important. I am definitely better for the time I have spent away. I feel so energised now and ready to hit it again – perhaps for reasons away from what’s happened I needed that break anyway. Did you know how long you were going to be away? I figured I wouldn’t be back. It became clear none of it was important … and what had become important to me for many years was the wrong thing. I think I started to worry more about hanging on to something and how many records and you know: ‘What do you mean that’s not sold out?’
ANGELA WYLIE
Your son Noah was diagnosed in 2016 and you took a hiatus to be with your family. What is it like to feel the love and warmth for this comeback tour? There is a genuine love between me and the audience and that has never gone away. I told my manager that I wanted a chance to dip my toes back in the water after being gone for a couple years. I missed it, I really did. It’s not even a decision you consciously make. It was just the thing you have to do as a father. We are coming out the other side but it has been such a ride; a really tough ride.
Wo r d s
I said to a friend the other day – they were talking about their Instagram – ‘I’m happy that it brings you joy but I… I don’t give… I don’t want to know.’ You seem so much more grounded now. I’m happy. It’s just there’s what’s important and then there’s everything else. One of the things that it really allows you to do is really enjoy the relationships, enjoy the moment and the laughter and the romance and all of the things. What did your wife say when you said you wanted to come back? I think she was waiting for me. The truth is she had decided that she wanted to come back way before me. She had contractually agreed to do a movie and she knew that she couldn’t leave them hanging. So, as soon as things started to turn well, and we knew that Noah was good, she went back. Would you say your main job is watching the family? That’s all I cared about. No one ever brought a word up to me about working, contracts or shows booked, never a word. I never felt an iota of pressure.
SA M M O O R E
You’ve varied your style over the years, but would you say you always come back to the Ratpack sound? I absolutely love it. I have tried to pretend to be cool and tell everyone that I love cool music, but the truth is there is nothing like Frank Sinatra. Does touring give you the buzz it did 10 years ago? Well, let me put it this way, who gets to throw a party for 20,000 people every night, and be the host? It’s very easy to get complacent but we have to remind ourselves that every night is important. You’ve spoken about feeling like a fraud. Do you still? Robbie Williams stands on stage and has moments of doubting himself. I am like that off stage all the time. Sometimes I get up and feel like I am the biggest fraud in the world and that I am going to get found out any minute. OK, so less these days, but a part of that will always stay with you, and that’s a good thing. ● MICHAEL BUBLE IN CONCERT \ Returns to Australia for one show only at Allianz Stadium in Sydney, October 5.

skimo Joe frontman Kav Temperley is about to hit the road in support of his debut solo album, All Your Devotion, but don’t go expecting something grim a la Eskimo Joe’s Black Fingernails, Red Wine. Rather, the album represents an upswing for Temperley coming off the back of a number of rock-bottom years following the demise of his marriage in 2013. Happily, Temperley now in a good place, with a triumphant and much anticipated songlist to show for it. The experience has also proved to Temperley that his internal compass is set for optimism, hence the album’s first single, Pollyanna. “The song was a combination of realising that I’m one of those people who looks on the brighter side of things and will always swing back with relative happiness,” Temperley says. “But it’s also about me singing it to myself as a kind of a mantra, almost like the pep talk in front of the mirror and saying, ‘It’s OK buddy, you can do this’.” The fact that Temperley is loved up with his wife-to-be and creative partner hasn’t hurt either. “My music and my life always run so parallel, because I’m always writing about what’s going on,” Temperley explains. “So what happened is that I started to write these really positive love songs again, and it was such a relief. I already knew how to write dark songs about break-ups and being lost in the night, and for a while I was still trying to mine that place, but it was like digging for dirt as opposed to talking about was in front of me.” In contrast to what Temperley calls the “grand nature” of the Eskimo Joe sound, All Your Devotion is a gentler, more stripped-back listen. “I wanted it to be at the sort of record where you’d pour yourself a glass of wine ... and there’d be this soothing sound coming out of the stereo,” he says. Die-hard Eskimo Joe fans needn’t fret. No one’s pulled the pin on the band and Temperley says he approached his musical sojourn very carefully. “We had the conversation before we went in to do Wastelands and I was like, ‘Hey guys, we need to do another record, but just to let you know after this, I’d like to kind of take some time out and do something else creatively’,” he says. “I still see all the guys socially, we still do shows and it’s not like we’ve said we’re never going to do a record again. We’re just doing some other stuff.” ●

Remaining true to character LAST MONTH
I
n Liane Moriarty’s new novel, nine perfect strangers, with very little in common, find themselves sharing a luxury health retreat for 10 days. What could possibly go wrong? In Moriarty’s expert hands, a lot goes wrong, and the result is a hugely entertaining, if at times cringeworthy, read. Most of the guests have booked in for more than the meditation, yoga and fasting. All lead damaged, stressful lives and are using the aptly named Tranquillum House as a form of escape from reality. Included in the motley crew are: Frances, a failing romance novelist fleeing her own shaky love life; former football star Tony who has struggled with life off the field; the exceedingly shallow lottery winners Ben and Jessica; and the Marconi family, who are brooding over a shattering tragedy. They all collide spectacularly with the retreat’s charismatic, slightly terrifying and rather unconventional owner Masha. Once again, Moriarty presents perfectly drawn characters. They all have flaws, but are deeply human in the way they interact and deal with challenges. Just as we all instantly recognised the pushy parents and playground politics in Big Little Lies, most of us will be familiar with the personalities and issues presented here. If she is not making you laugh at the absurd practices at the retreat (“noble silence” anybody?), Moriarty will have you weeping at heartbreaking personal traumas. And while the ending is slightly far-fetched, her latest effort will not disappoint. ●

pring is all about celebrating greens and now is therefore the perfect time to brighten up your winter diet. We all know breakfast is the most important meal of the day and this dish really will set you up for the day – my simple smashed peas recipe is so easy to make at home and easily looks like a cafe dish. Peas often get forgotten and used as an accompaniment to the main act: here, I’ve jazzed them up a little by using one of my favourite cheeses from Emerald Deli at South Melbourne Market. This Basque sheep-milk blue cheese is absolutely to die for, if you’re a cheese lover like me. The owner of Emerald Deli, Maria, has sold cheese for 30 years so it’s safe to say she knows her cheeses. Check out the deli’s cheese room the next time you’re at the market. They also have a big selection of sweet treats that I guarantee will tempt you, too. ●

Bring 1 litre of water to boil. Add frozen peas and cook for approximately 2 mins. Remove and strain. Place peas in a large mixing bowl and smash the peas with a potato masher. You want a few whole pieces in there as well. Season with a pinch of salt. Set aside in a warm place. Place oil in a small frying pan on medium heat. Crack quail eggs into pan. Be careful not to break the shell too hard as they are very delicate. They should take approximately 2-3 mins to cook. In the meantime, grill the sourdough pieces, enough to get some grill marks. Butter the bread and place 2 heaped tablespoons of smashed peas on top. Crumble some blue cheese onto the smashed peas and top with 2 quail eggs. Season with some salt and pepper. ●

From grandmother with love One New York man has turned his grief into a unique restaurant where all the food is prepared by a very special collection of cooks.
H Enoteca Maria owner Joe Scaratella and one of his muchloved cooks, many of different cultural backgrounds.
ave you ever been to Staten Island? Maybe you caught the ferry to the sleepy New York City borough to get a glimpse of the Statue of Liberty. Thousands of tourists make this trip every day, only to turn around and get on the next ferry back to Manhattan. But a short walk up the hill from the ferry building yields a gem; an Italian restaurant with an unlikely sight in the kitchen: grandmothers. From Thursday to Sunday, grandmothers busy themselves in the kitchen of Enoteca Maria, plying doughy gnocchi and silky calamari. The restaurant sits in the historic St George neighbourhood between a grand old theatre and a deli.

Blink and you’ll miss it. Holding court behind the counter is owner Joe Scaratella. He opened Enoteca Maria 11 years ago after his mother, sister and grandmother passed away. “After you lose your family you kind of feel orphaned, so I felt like I was really missing a piece,” he says. “It’s given me something else to think about. I think it really helped me to get through that.” “My grandmother was the best cook and I grew up with her. After everyone passed I thought, Continued p22

‘There’s probably a lot of these women out there that are really great cooks’. I think I was secretly trying to comfort myself and surround myself with these ladies, these Italian grandmothers.” The restaurant has a rotating staff of 30 grandmothers. Several years ago, Enoteca Maria started featuring grandmothers from countries around the world. On the night we visit, an Italian and Turkish grandmother are cooking. “There are so many cultural differences and you have to celebrate them and enjoy them because that’s who we are. It’s those differences, that’s the beauty,” he says. Scaratella hasn’t heard of the idea anywhere else and there’s good reason: it’s incredibly hard to manage a rotating staff of grandmothers and a menu that changes every night. “I know why it’s not being done anywhere else. It’s impossible,” he says, laughing. “To change that kitchen every day is impossible.” The dishes that come out of the kitchen make you

feel as if you’re sitting down for a meal cooked by a loved one. It’s not gourmet, but it’s delicious. The phone rings incessantly with reservations from around the world and a film company recently picked up the rights for a movie on the restaurant. Enoteca Maria is an incredible triumph considering Scaratella had never operated a restaurant before. He only retired from his job at the transport authority in 2015. “It’s been a hell of a ride,” he says, calling Enoteca Maria’s success “science fiction”. The restaurant has also turned into an unlikely social enterprise, giving older women a purpose. “Some of the really beautiful parts are a lot of these
women have lost their husbands. They’re emptynesters, they lost their husbands, they’re at home and they’re lost,” says Scaratella, recalling one woman in particular. “When she first came here she was all dressed in black and you could see that she could barely keep from crying. A couple of days later we had an interview and I invited her to be there. “Her children were in the front and I was talking to her children and she was in the back being interviewed. The children looked at me and they said, ‘We haven’t seen our mother this happy in a long time’. For me, that was really a special moment.” ●

ant to be a clean, green-eating machine? For a blast of wellness, power-walk on over to this healthy hub, where the recommended daily veg intake comes in one bumper-sized bowl. “People can go out for brekkie, go out for lunch here, and not feel like shit afterwards,” says co-owner Bannie Williams, who is a qualified nutritionist but no holier-than-thou hippy. She eats meat, she loves “a few wines” and she understands that many people think “having a green smoothie tastes like drinking a lawn”. can’t, and nothing is over $20. You want fish? Try the salmon bowl, a health-giving, meal-sized salad of house-smoked fish, loaded with crunchy, frilly seasonal greens (hello, kale), avocado, dill and pickled veg. If you’re craving beef, then know that the slowcooked, fall-apart version you’re eating here is sustainably and ethically farmed. “If I’m feeling a bit dusty, I’ll have a macrobowl with an egg and sourdough,” Williams says, “It’s so nutrient-dense because of all the colourful, minimally processed, fresh veggies in one bowl.” The couple’s first collaboration was The Smoothie Manifesto, a 50-strong recipe book that sent
Vitamixes around the country whirring into overdrive. Grab a copy ($20), or try one of 10 on offer at Fort Green. Names such as “The Redeemer” or “Turmeric Defender” are equally at home on a roller derby rink as a smoothie menu. Add-your-own “enhancers” include activated charcoal and acai powder. On the sweets front, there’s Fort Green’s famed salted peanut caramel slice. Me? I thought I hated vegan sweets but, five minutes later: demolished. These squishy, sweet pucks, made with 99th Monkey Peanut Butter, banana, carob, dates, almond milk, sea salt, and organic maple syrup, are so, so good.

Yoga is Williams' “side passion” and, upstairs, Fort Green’s studio runs classes for all skill levels. “Healthy eating has become the new cool. It’s just huge at the moment,” Williams says. “There’s a shift globally to people wanting healthy food and I think it’s related to people having dietary intolerances.” Williams has always eaten well. “My mum is very health conscious, and that swayed my healthy eating habits,” she says. For those of us who grew up thinking cheese Twisties and a hotdog constituted a healthy school lunch, Fort Green is aspirational. If your springtime dream is to eat lean, this Fort is a stronghold of inspiration. ●

Trusting your gut feeling
G
ut health is an in-vogue topic, but there is a reason for this. Inflammation, bloating and related tummy troubles are a real thing and there are some simple but effective foods that we can introduce to our diet to ensure our gut is happy and healthy. To get to the bottom of this, I sat down with 28’s head nutritionist Steph Wearne for the low-down on the best foods for your gut health. “Your gut microbiome consists of the trillions of micro-organisms that live in your intestinal tract. These micro-organisms are made up mainly of bacteria and play an important role in your overall health and wellbeing,” Wearne says. So, not only do they play a vital role in breaking down food for digestion and absorbing nutrients, they also play a key part in several important processes that go well beyond maintaining our gut health.
Wearne says: “There are a number of different factors that can affect the type and amount of good and bad bacteria we host and, while you will belong to what is known as an ‘enteroptype’ [like a blood type but for your gut], every individual has their own unique set of bacteria.” The good news is this means you can improve your gut health at any time. Whole foods are the best for our gut health, especially those that are high in fibre, antioxidants and healthy fats such as veggies, fruits, legumes, whole grains, extra virgin olive oil, nuts, seeds, fish, yoghurt and dairy. But here are some other popular products that Wearne recommends for some extra gut lovin’. KIMCHI \ Kimchi is a Korean staple that consists of spicy fermented cabbage and other vegetables. There are several ways to change the flavour of

kimchi but it always has a base of cabbage. Kimchi is a fermented food, meaning the lactic acid produced by the bacteria inhibits the growth of other microorganisms, leading to preservation. This bacteria produced means plenty of healthy probiotics that can improve your gut health by reducing the number of disease-causing bacteria in your intestines. The healthy probiotics in kimchi can help maintain a functioning digestive system as part of a balanced diet.
ISTOCK
KOMBUCHA \ Although not technically a food,
this drink has become hugely popular in the past couple of years. Kombucha is a fermented tea made of SCOBY (symbiotic culture of bacteria and yeast) water and organic sugar. The SCOBY ferments the sugar and you end up with an effervescent liquid that could be described as diluted apple-cider vinegar full of beneficial bacteria. As more studies look into the benefits of good gut health there are reasons to believe that there are
links between a healthy digestive system and your immune function. RESISTANT STARCH \ About 95 per cent of gut
bacteria is in the large bowel. The CSIRO says eating resistant starch can help our bowels support several functions, including absorption of nutrients from food. Resistant starch passes undigested through the small intestine into the large intestine where it is fermented by the bacteria. The gas produced is helpful for the integrity of our gut lining. Foods with resistant starch include oats, brown rice, legumes, cooked and cooled potatoes, green bananas and slightly undercooked pasta. SAUERKRAUT \ Sauerkraut is freshly fermented
cabbage adds friendly bacteria to your gut. Fresh sauerkraut, kept refrigerated, has live bacteria and enzymes that help keep the gut happy. â—? â—? 28bysamwood.com

ear Prahran’s eclectic dining and retail precincts, mid-rise Ukiyo offers the exclusivity of expansive whole and half-floor residences with protected bay and city views. Ukiyo’s 12 apartments span seven levels over two office floors and ground level retail on the corner of High and Porter streets. Following on from the success of The Springfield in Toorak, Ukiyo is the latest project from developer Chapter Group and architects K2LD. Inspired by the Japanese Ukiyo-e art movement, the 10-storey building is designed as a collection of floating worlds with an asymmetrical sculpted form and a series of vertical gardens around lower levels. Developer Dean Lefkos and architect David Lee are partners in Chapter Group. Lefkos says like all Chapter Group projects, Ukiyo started with a “super prime” location with outstanding amenity and views and has created a market difference through exceptional design. “Ukiyo’s three facades optimise views and natural light. This humble and sweet-looking home has all the qualities couples and young families seek in a property. Located in a cul-de-sac tucked off Riversdale Road near Camberwell Junction, it is conveniently positioned close to schools, parks, shops and public transport, without the noise or congestion of surrounding main roads. Renovations undertaken by the current owners have introduced timeless interiors and a greater connection to the outdoors. Being semi-detached, natural light streams in via south-facing windows throughout. A white picket fence surrounds the Edwardian-inspired façade and single garage. Upon entry are the three bedrooms, each with plush new carpet, high ceilings and wooden plantation shutters. The largest of the bedrooms is at the centre of the floor plan and features a small en suite and access to the outdoors, with a small deck and garage entrance. A family bathroom is positioned next to the main bedroom en suite. The hallway eventually opens to become an open-plan living domain. A renovated kitchen overlooks the dining and family areas, which feature a large open fireplace and builtin shelving. The kitchen showcases a contemporary and minimal aesthetic combining stone bench tops, white glossy cabinetry and a marble-like splashback. Bifold doors at the rear open completely to the home’s west-facing outdoor deck which allows space for dining or entertaining around in-built seating. Mature trees and a high fence surround the deck and small lawn, creating shade, privacy and ambience. One can easily imagine enjoying this
