he 2018 Division Sports Meet has begun. Anchored on the theme “One Dream, One Goal, One Division” this sports competition aims to foster unity and cooperation
among athletes, coaches and teams. Although the word COMPETITION denotes competing teams and individual players, the notion that whoever wins will be our representatives for the Provincial Meet 2017. The 2017 Provincial Meet will tap the best players or the champions from Batangas Province, Batangas City, Lipa City and Tanauan City. Whoever champed in the Provincial Meet will be the delegates for the Southern Tagalog CALABARZON Athletic Association (STCAA) Meet.
“One Dream, One Goal, One Division”.
In case of group categories, the winning team will select the best athletes from the 2nd and 3rd placers as support to the champion. Unity among the members of the team will be a strong ingredient to success. Sincerity and loyalty among the athletes count a lot, too. Definitely, with the above-mentioned recipes in sports, the Division of Batangas’ athletes would be equipped with all the necessary skills they need. Thus, victory would not be impossible in the realization of the theme “One Dream, One Goal, One Division”. The success of the Division of Batangas depends on the collaborative efforts of all athletes entwined with discipline and sportsmanship. All For One! One For All! Go, go Batangas! (Zenaida M. by everything you’ll see that seems extraordinary. In spite of your hunger, you will not dare to satisfy it at once; you have to fill your eyes first with words posted around which may be unfamiliar and you may be at lost since they serve as instructions/directions as one dines in. In the entrance of the mess hall, these lines would probably capture your idle thoughts: Ganire kami noon, hanggang ngayon! Surely, you will not enter unless you know the meaning of the line. By merely looking at the photos and pieces of information, one will realize that the Batangas delegation is one-of-a kind! For several years, it has garnered the following awards in the Southern Tagalog Calabarzon Athletic Association (STCAA): Most Organized, Eco-Friendliest Group, Most Disciplined and the Cleanest/Greenest Delegation. The awards were not just given once, They received the same sets of awards almost yearly.

Let’s now enter hall and go to the first station labeled DINULANGAN. Gosh! What is it? Take another look and you’ll see its meaning. Ah, Table Appointments! Get your plate, cup, saucer, silverwares and proceed to station 2 for your chosen foods since you’ll be choosing from Kombi 1, 2 or 3. If you want to get a glass of water, proceed to the next station labeled LANG-APAN. While you are eating, move your eyes around and you’ll learn more. You’ll find the words albasiya, bastaan, uyamin, kusihan, gawaan, imisan and many words from Mother Tongue. They are not just placed there but artistically done and they serve as guide to our athletes who dine in the hall three times a day.
Let me give you an alphabetically list of Tagalog terms I have just known and their meanings:
Albasiya – Supplies Area
Nilabon - Nilaga
Bastaan- Packing Area
Pag-aarimuhanan - Pagtitipid
Kusihan - Cooking Area
Palakat – Malakas na sigaw
Dinulangan- Table Appointments
Patikar – Mabilis na takbo
Gawaan - Food Preparation
Pumarine – Pinatawag palapit
Huntahan - Usapan; Kwentuhan
Sinsay – pumasyal, bumisita
Imisan - Dishwashing Area
Uriratin – Suriin; Tingnang mabuti
Lang-apan –Drinking water Station
Uyamin – Pagkain; Dessert; Snacks
Mual - Puno ang bibig ng pagkain
Yagyag – Lakad na mabilis
These are just parts of the Tagalog dictionary that only the Batanguenos could understand. Even the young Batanguenos find it difficult but they have been part of our unique culture. Words that have been passed by our ancestors from generation to generation. Truly, Mother-Tongue Based! Eating in this kind of hall did not only satisfy my hungry stomach but it fed my minds with more ideas I can only see and hear here. Not to mention the elegant native decorations that were recycled and reused for aesthetic sense! Truly, you can’t find this anywhere, Ala-eh! Onli in Batangas!

or the Batangas Province RSC delegation, it’s not only regional sports competition, but for them it is also a display of values and showcase of culture and tradition.
Batagueños so loved and revered its own that in every school
it was assigned to house, Batangas Province will surely bring the uniqueness it has.
Sinsay muna dine! (A Batagueño way of inviting a friend or a visitor to pay a quick visit in the place.) And who will not stop to take a glance and visit Batangas Province’ billeting quarter this year, if the façade of the school was adorned by striking colors of red, combined with yellow, green and maroon; the colors of four divisions— Batangas Province, Batangas City, Tanauan and LIpa which were merged for the Batangas Province delegations. The iconic “balisong” are on the top of the school fence before and after the artistically designed letterings which reads BATANGAS PROVINCE, while the gigantic cup of coffee seems steaming on the top of the gate, and yes it was an art mosaic using the real “Barakong Kape” of Batangas, is so inviting to really pay a visit. The Batagueño cheerfulness manifest from the colored “banderitas” used in barrio fiestas as well as the lantern like decors made from sacks of peanut and coconut shells which also gives a glimpse of livelihood of its towns. These are from the diligent hands and ingenuity of PROPS AND DECORS GROUP.

Discipline was given a high regard in Batangas and part of it is being tidy, organized and orderly. Dine sa amin inaasbaran ang pangkal! (A lazy person is a no, no in Batangas.) Discipline was given a high regard in Batangas and part of it is being tidy, organized and orderly. These are the roles of QUARTER MASTERS and the UTILITY GROUP of the delegation to keep all things in order, before all the players and coaches arrive and after they left the billeting area. These group were in charge to keep the surroundings, the room and all the areas safe and secured. Everyday these groups roam around to check every players room to impose discipline on cleanliness and orderliness. They check the rooms lightings, water supply as well as the comfort rooms for the comfort of our players. They are truly BatangueĂąos, known for its dedication and diligence.

Gayak agad ng maagang makagaod. (Batangas phrase to prepare early to go early on time) Part of being diligent is to be conscious on time, and for the Bataguenos to use the time properly is to move early through advance preparation of things. For the Batangas Province delegation, it is very important to send all players and coaches in the playing field and places on time, which is being managed by the people in the TRANSPORTATION GROUP. Well, they do their task effectively if the concerned persons informed them of the time of their event early, for prioritization as to who will be dispatched first and who is next.

BLADES sports magazine Manghinaw na at dumulog habang mainit pa ang kanin. (Wash your hand and let’s eat while the rice steams) In Batangas, inviting somebody to eat is a sincere gesture. Visitors or not, if a Batangueno sense someone needs to fill his empty stomach, Batagueño will offer anything from his house to satisfy somebody’s hunger. Well, from the many years of experience of feeding hundreds of athletes, coaches and visitors, the MESS GROUP knows best for us to please our discerning palate. Not only that, everything around in the mess hall is the product of the diligent hands of Batagueños and the ingenuity, collaboration, dedication to work of all the members of this group, not only to satisfy our hungry tummies but also to teach us discipline, remind us of our culture, instill us the values we once have before these days. This year, this group bring us back in the past, from the use of Batagueño’s native tongue, and the atmosphere of being inside a typical house in the countryside to being conscious of our table manners. I have said good things for this group before and I will say it again, you are all amazing. Yes, I thought last year is the best preparation but this year… what adjective I should use more than the adjective—best? In English there’s none, but in Batagueño’s tongue we could use—“Ay sadyang kainaman, wala nang uubra!”

ending more than 300 delegations in a sports competition of the Department of Education and aspire for better result is not an easy task.
Things have to be considered. For anyone, the skills and ability of the pupil-athletes to win for gold is of important concern. What training program is to be implemented or enhanced? Who are the capable teachers to conduct the trainings or to act as coaches? Needless to say, first thing to consider are the finances to fund the delegation. We have no disagreement on the importance of the things mentioned, they really are, but what we like to point here now, are the teachers behind the scene, who

were given nominal significance (we hope not) if not neglected in the hierarchy of importance for a sports competition like STCAA.
"Respect should be given to everyone with highest worth because everyone in Batangas Province are important no matter what task assigned to us because our purpose is to reap victories for the honor of our division for the honor of us all."
Teachers who act as coaches and trainers, are provided with the proper support and regard as important persons in developing athletes for victories, but how about those teachers who are also factors for a successful delegation, are they properly acknowledged? Yes, they too make sacrifices by leaving their families maybe for weeks and worst, sometimes they could bear to left their sicked love ones. They are those teachers who left the comfort of their homes as they considered the tasks delegated to them are part of the profession. They are the working bees who make our athletes and coaches’ stay in the billeting venue comfortable, they are those who make the venue pleasant to the senses—they are the persons in-charge in the decorations, in the room assignments, or in the dispatching of athletes. They are those in the mess area who work more than the hours of their teaching loads. They are teachers and yes they act as carpenters, garbage collectors, fly catchers and other duties odd to their professions, and that all is because of call of duty. Sending more than 300 delegations in a sports competition of the Department of Education and aspire for better result is not an easy task. Things have to be considered. in the last inning of their match, 9-8, during the STCAA Softball Elementary Girls elimination round. After the victory, the Batagueña batters have an opportunity for a twice to beat advantage if they will suppress the equally formidable Rizal Province which defeated Quezon Province in the earlier match, here at Sitio Mainit, Barangay San Jose, San Pablo City, Laguna. “Bukas (February 13), unang maglalaban ang dalawang team na parehong may talo, tapos maaaring kami ang maghaharap ng Rizal Province na kapareho naming walang talo. SPINOFF S
AN PABLO, LAGUNA. After waiting for an hour due to a bye position, Batangas Elementary Boys Table Tennis team quickly set their engines to motion and drowned
the efforts of Rizal delegation in an astonishing, quick 3-0 sweep here at SM San Pablo City, February 12, 2018. First to step in the mall’s activity center and flex his swings is Single A Franz Harvey S. Fagarita, a Grade 6 native of San Gregorio, Malvar, Batangas under the tutelage of teacher Marcelino Babadilla. A former STCAA 3rd placer and raring a comeback for Palarong Pambansa in Vigan, Harvey pitted his spinning serves against neophyte Marumas of Rizal who seemed distracted with the Malvarian’s left and right sways. The Rizaleno tried to bring the ball to edges only to be returned by deep hooks of Harvey, elder of FAgarita twins, and easily ended the first set at 11-7.

BLADES sports magazine Enjoying the spins and furthered driving alley-hoops with his favorite Axiom-branded paddle, Harvey slammed the loops set from Rizal camp. Though being playful and missing some returns, the score again settled at 11-7, deepening the valley in 2-0 at the second set. The baffled Rizaleno tried to recover and tried to drive back, but with net misses and faulty replies. An incident however took the audience by surprise at 7-7 tie, as a speeding fast drive by Harvey was mistakenly scored for the opponent, and invited a howling protest from the vigilant crowd. A few errors here and there got the contender reach 8 points, but until there only as it was nailed to 11-8, leaving no space to score a point in the best of five game. Younger twin Kirby played Single B again against Rizal, but jokingly set versus a Grade 3 newbie promising enough to put up a fight. Young grader Dacumas however proved no better than to dance to the beat of Kirby’s magic wand. Scores were set at 11-4, 11-4, and finally 11-2, as the official scorer yawned and almost fell asleep at the middle of the awkward game. In another show of mercy but futuristic plan, Rizal’s Doubles fielded ‘small but terribles’ against Batanguenos Vaughn Aia Gabriel Reyes and Deignzel Josh Dagyapen, duo from Agoncillo and Bauan Districts. Barely reaching the center table but honed for the longer years, the opponents amazingly managed a close fight, 9-11 in a drive for drive, placing for placing spinning 1st set game. The cuties even retaliated with agile steps to beat the coffee-Barakos in 2nd set, 11-7. They were not however fast enough to catch the chops and kills fielded by the threatened Vaughn and Deignzel in 3rd set at 11-13, and finally 9-11 at 4th set to mark the game 1-3 in favor of the Batanguenos. A clear sweep was set in both Singles and Doubles as coach Mark happily congratulated the victor boys. “We trusted them well to win and keep focused” said coach Babadilla, as the kids’ parents also watched at the sides in the air-conditioned venue and well-attended opening games. “Always supportive, we also came to watch them even in practice at the Batangas sports camp” commented Mrs. Liezl, the twin’s mother as she expressed pride for the Palarong Pambansa dreams and passion of her children step by step getting realized. #dmmutiaRSC2018

he merging of the city divisions to five provinces of Region IV-A CALABARZON for the 2018 Regional Sports Competition is a wise decision.
In the past years, after the Municipal Sports and
Athletic Meet, the champions of all events competed in the Division Meet. From the winners of the Division Meet, the coaches selected those athletes with potentials for the Southern Tagalog CALABARZON Athletic Association (STCAA) Meet. The STCAA took a week or more because we have 20 divisions competing in that event. The STCAA is now replaced by the 1st Regional Sports Competition (RSC) wherein athletes of the five (5) big divisions will challenge each other.

our contenders now in the RSC. With three (3) levels surpassed by the winners prove the athletic agility, sports prowess, discipline, self-confidence, patience and sportsmanship of the victors. They are being tested if they can really reach the higher level of competition. After each level, there is a rigid one-month training and practice. Thus, the players are really prepared to face the next battle. With a stronger team per province, the gold medals and trophies CALABARZON aims for would not be far behind. We salute the organizers of the 1st Regional Sports Competition especially the host division, the stakeholders who wholeheartedly support and finance the uniforms, transportation, foods and other expenses related to this event. Finally, whoever wins in this competition will definitely vie for Palarong Pambansa 2018. With fervent hope, we pray that CALABARZON HEROES will dominate the sports field in the national level. The Batagueña dribblers foiled first the Cavite Province in the early match with a small margin, 79-77 before the Rizalians for the top spot and a twice to beat advantage. “Our game plan is to weaken their outside shooting, since according to our players, they are the same opponents who defeated the Batangas Province in their previous games because of their shooting skills,” explained coach Noriel Contreras. “Ang sabi ko, huwag ng patirahin sa ibabaw, i-approach agad,” Contreras said. Batangas defense allowed it to establish a 30-26 lead, but substitution of players due to play-all ruling allowed the Rizal Province to get back into the game, 35-36, with one point lead in the middle of the third frame. Coach Contreras reentered Agojo and Catulong to reestablish the game plan and a 8-2 blast to open the fourth period kept the Batangas at bay for good.
