total of four hundred sixty-one grade five teachers from Area I of Batangas Province were reminded to use both mind and heart in the five days training from April 24 to April 29, of the DepEd K 12 Curriculum Program on its fifth year of implementation here at La Virginia Hotel and Resort. Dr. Hermogenes M. Panganiban, Assistant Schools Division Superintendent, encouraged the teacher trainees to give their 100% participation in the discussion of learning competencies of K 12 curriculum for grade five and to get all important things by heart during his message in the
opening program of the training. “After this seminar workshop you will be
in the final battle where in you will be delivering all the competencies that our speakers will discuss with in five days but in the delivery of these lessons, make it sure that you will deliver all those things using the combination of your mind and heart, the ASDS added. ASDS Panganiban said that the teachers should deliver the curriculum to develop the competencies but more important are the values which integrated across the learning areas. According to him, no matter how intelligent the pupils if the mindset and values of the learners will not change education will not able to help them. The ASDS also mentioned the Result Based Performance Management System in which the
performance of teachers will largely depend from the kind of performance their learners will show, thus after the training the teachers should be equipped with knowledge and skills which the teachers need to deliver this school year. “In attending seminar workshop like this, it really requires your attention, dedication, commitment and sacrifices, and since you are here I believe you will get the most of it”, ASDS Panganiban ended. Meanwhile, Mr. David M. Nuay, SGOD Chief, expounded the objective of the training by explaining not only what competencies to be imparted but also how the teachers will deliver the competencies. Mrs. Evelyn De Sagun, Senior Specialist in charge of the training, introduced the trainers who will handle the seven classes formed from Nasugbu West, Nasugbu East, Lian, Tuy, Balayan, Calatagan, Lemery and Taal Districts of Area I; Mrs. Gilma Porley will handle Mathematics, Mr. Francisco Hernandez for Health Education, Mr. Naciano Cortez – EPP, Mrs. Donabel Pelonia – English, Mrs. Sarha Arellano - Music, Mrs. Olympia Orlina – EPP, Mrs. Rianita Pasigpasigan to handle Filipino, Mr. Louie Alvarez-Science, Mrs. Ma. Teresa Caringal—Arts, Mrs. Vanessa Bautista—ESP and Miss Mary Grace Mendoza for Araling Panlipunan.

fter the sessions for the day were declared over, and maybe the teacher-trainees are enjoying the cool water of the pool in the La Virginia Resort or maybe some of them are tucked in bed to rest their tired body, but not the souls who sacrifice in the proper implementation of K 12 Training Program for grade five teachers. Their day as if has only begin by doing their homework before the next morning arrive, that is, preparing their topic, the materials and all the necessary things for the next day of training. No they will not retire yet, until they answered the “What went wrong?’ and “What went well?” questions before the face of the Training Master. The first day as they assessed has only minor inaccuracies like— one or two did not came in the class, the projector did not prepared on time, few minutes were extended during the activity work of a certain class, some of the session areas were small for the number of attendees and some of the trainees have their blood pressure checked, but all were given proper attention and answer.
And the great thing is… more positive notes and comments were given which lifted the spirit of everyone. The trainers, the class managers, the process observers, the technical assistance and the leader of the group they are all being who get tired but never complain instead diligently doing their task, giving more than what they can give waiting not for additional compensation or favor. Had they have no family or a child left at home who also need their presence, I could say it is not a big deal, but they have love ones who wait for them and for sure they truly miss— part of the sacrifices they needed to endure as part of the service. ‘Though tired, they still manage to
laugh and give you a genuine grin or manage to crack a joke even if their voice raspy because of a long day talk for the more than 60 individuals each class. Is it what we call professionalism? Passion? Love for work? Or more…, thread into one to make the mind and heart work voluntarily for a great purpose. This is a class act which only few can do –only those who see their job not as work but as LIFE.
