DepED Batangas Gawad Balisong
2016 BY: ZENAIDA M. DELOS SANTOS Principal I
I
t was a very exotic day for the awardees and other attendees. Every one dressed very elegantly in Filipiniana and corporate attire.
One will be amazed by the entrance of the participants-from the highest officials of the division down to the teacher-awardees marched on the aisle like a wedding entourage accompanied by a very live music.
Another sparkling part was the entrance of the two emcees who were like celebrities from somewhere else, gifted with eloquent tongues as they greeted everyone and started the ceremony. After the singing of the National Anthem and Invocation, a taped interview with our Schools Division Superintendent, was flashed on screen as he explained the birth of GAWAD BALISONG.
What is GAWAD BALISONG?
T
he acronym was taken from Batangueno: Angat na Lahing Isinasabuhay ang Sinseridad sa Organisasyon ng may Natatanging Galing. BALISONG refers to an icon that symbolizes the Batangueno- Katatagan, Tibay at Kagalingan.
Moment of Surprise
T
he emcees acknowledged the presence of USEC Jesus R. Mateo of the Regional Office Planning and introduced the panel of Division personnel present in this gathering. Another Documentary film “Guro directed by Domcar Calinawan Lagto was presented on screen depicting the life of a teacher from the time she applied and started her career in a remote barrio and how she handled multi grade levels from Grades 1 to 3- Ms. MARY ANNE TESNADO, Outstanding Multi grade Teacher!
Dr. Hermogenes Panganiban, OIC-Asst. Schools Division Superintendent rendered the opening remarks. He mentioned that there are 27 awardees for this year’s BALISONG awarding ceremony for their Outstanding Accomplishments bringing the Division of Batangas exemplary awards in different aspects. He added that this recognition for Service Excellence has been supported by the Regional Director and Civil Service Commission. Mrs. Merly Pasatiempo expressed her message on behalf of Gov. Hermilando I. Mandanas. She said, “Once a teacher will always be a teacher.” She compared the brilliant minds of the teachers to the sharp blade of the Balisong and expressed the fervent hope that this comparison be much sharper and gained more awards for Batangas Province in the coming years.
Dr. Felizardo O. Bolanos, another OIC-ASDS, introduced the guest speaker who has served the Department of Education with much achievements for the past years. This man who also implemented various programs like PRODED, Basic Education Curriculum and K to 12 as required by BESRA is no other than USEC Jesus Lorenzo R. Mateo of Dep ED-Regional Office Planning. USEC Mateo said that Life comes in 3 categories: the Easy Way, the Challenging or rough way and the Impossible that will definitely inspire people. “I will work to the best of my ability and serve to the best that I can.” These words of USEC Mateo encouraged everyone to serve with utmost sincerity and not to complain more without doing anything. “Public service is a habit and for that I don’t intend to quit,” he added.
The undersecretary also mentioned that Batangas is not only for service but excellent service to the country. He posted 3 challenging questions to the audience: 1. What have you done and how did you do it? 2. Have you finished the required documents/reports to be submitted? 3. What have you given to the service? He ended his message with this line: “Continue inspiring and giving blessing to others.” After USEC Mateo’s message, the teachers of Balayan district rendered a song number entitled “Tagumpay Nating Lahat.” Dr. Carlito D. Rocafort, Schools Division Superintendent, thanked USEC Mateo for gracing the Gawad Balisong Ceremony. He explained how the schools have improved based from the previous performance.
