T
he Department of Education launched a program “Oplan Kalusugan sa DepEd” also known as “OK sa DepEd” for the Health Week, that allowed every school to allot three days for the implementation, from July 11-13, 2018.

NDEP National Drug Education Program
H
ealth is very important in our daily lives to perform our duties and responsibilities. The Department of Education mandated” Ok sa DEPED” program aim to educate the pupils regarding the importance of taking care of our health including drug awareness campaign through National Drug Education Program (NDEP). In cooperation of Nasugbu Police Office with the leadership of PCI Ronald P. Cayago, Natipuan Elementary School conducted drug awareness seminar on July 12,2018 at Natipuan Covered Court, Natipuan Nasugbu, Batangas. The program started with the national anthem followed by opening prayer through power point presentation. One of the police officer started the talk with the question “what is the difference between drugs and illegal drugs”? which caught the attention of the pupils and actively participated in question and answer portion of the program. The officer tackled first the cause of drug addiction in one specific person for the pupils to
realize the reason behind drug addiction. It was followed by discussing the harmful effects of illegal drugs to person’s physical appearance, behaviour, social and spiritual life. They also taught the pupils how did they find that a person is drug addict by looking at the symptoms to be aware and immediately prevent him/her to a rampant use of illegal drugs. At the end, they challenged the pupils to disengage in illegal drugs to protect their health and lives as a response they willingly accepted the challenge. The program ended with the closing remarks of Mrs. Dorothy P. Barcelon, NES Clinic Coordinator.
DEWORMING
Reduces burden of STH infections
T
he guidelines on the implementation of the Oplan Kalusugan sa DepEd are enclosed in the DepEd Memorandum No. 28, s. 2018.
For each school year, the first round of the deworming program is conducted in the whole month of July, while the second round is in January. Natipuan Elementary School participates in the simultaneously National School Deworming day of DOH in partnership with the DepEd on July 11, 2018 at Natipuan Covered court. The teachers make sure that all their pupils were present in that day so that no one can be left behind. Before the day of deworming, teachers informed and advised the parents that their children need to have full stomach before entering the school that serves as a precautionary measures in taking deworming medicine. The teachers facilitate the pupils in the distribution of chewable tablets with the assistance of health personnel. For the first administration of deworming in NES, SY 2018-2019, 302 pupils were dewormed out of 350. Children who missed the deworming were reported sick with fever and be dewormed
once they get well while some of them refused their parents to undergo deworming. Those children aged 5-12 years were administered with the tablet called Albendazole 400 mg or Mebendazole 500 mg, both of which are recommended by World Health Organization (WHO) and DOH and known to have excellent safety records. Under this effort, the DOH provided the medicines to be administered as a single dose every six months to ensure the elimination of all types of worms. This DOH initiative covered children who are studying from Kinder to Grade 6 in all elementary public schools nationwide to prevent the detrimental effects of Soil-transmitted helminths (STH). School-based deworming is a good strategy to reduce the burden of STH infections because it creates a positive impact on children’s education and health wherein the children will become more active in their activities and school performance. At the end, the said occasion was very successful with the collaborative effort of everyone. Health and education are truly closely interrelated and effective learning cannot happen without the pupils being healthy.
ZUMBA Another way of celebrating Oplan Kalusugan
T
here are many ways to celebrate the Ok sa DepEd- Oplan kalusugan Program. One of these is the Zumba, a dance exercise that will keep body physically fit and healthy.

They are very eager to dance and seems has all their energy to dance that will last for one hour. It was a great feeling seeing almost all the pupils grinding and dancing gracefully on the grooves. There are also parents that participated in this session.
Rabies

I
n accordance with Republic Act 9482 which was signed into law on May 25, 2007. The observance aims to strengthen awareness on the prevention, control, and management of rabies.

Standing still is always the best thing to do if you want a dog to go away. Be sensitive and kind to dog and protect yourself. It is followed by a video presentation on how rabies developed, what is the cause, the signs and symptoms of it. The topic in rabies awareness was clearly explained and successfully done
