Must Go On!
The Show Salutations!
The first word that probably get out of our mouth
after witnessing the opening program of the 2012 Southern Tagalog CALABARZON Athletic Association (STCAA) which was pushed through despite of the continuous rains. The athletes of the participating divisions were able to execute their yell and dance presentations even there were showered by drizzle that later turned to heavy rains. They kept themselves seated on their respective places even they got wet. We salute you dear players for that act of discipline you had shown. We believe that’s part of your training and you were able to exude your best despite of the unpleasant weather. What was equally worthy of praise was the presentation of the dance number of Laguna students after the speech delivered by Gov. E.R. Ejercito. The dancers did not mind the rain that made their costumes wet and heavy. They still danced gracefully not thinking of the possible consequence of bathing under the rain. Congratulations dear athletes for showing an exemplary act. You all deserve a warm applause! As Governor Ejercito mentioned, “the show must go on”.

29ers
impress crowd in Laguna
B
atangas 29ers capture once again the crowd with their magnificent performance during the opening program of STCAA Southern Tagalog CALABARZON Athletic Association 2012 held in Laguna Sports Complex, Feb. 19. Wearing their white and red uniform, the 29ers impress the STCAA crowd with their well disciplined performance during the parade. The even stump of their feet and the straight alignment that matched with their forceful yell truly caught the interest of the crowd under the scorching heat of the sun. The opening exhibition added to the attraction of the already impressed spectators. The melodious tune of a disco music and the graceful sway of the hands in addition to the unique way and gestures of greetings were additional plus factors accorded to the 29ers. What attitude they had shown, reveals the kind of training they acquired from their coaches.

Athletic events delayed due to heavy rain Buhay, Bauyon to run at 1500 m rain or shine By: Michael T. Villaluna
Because of overnight downpour and non-stop heavy shower which started in the opening ceremony of STCAA 2012, Sta. Cruz Sports Complex, where the events will take place is almost flooded, forcing athletic officials to delay all athletic events until 1 p.m. Nothing to do, all athletes with their coaches were patiently waiting in the bleachers of the grandstand and praying for the heavy shower to halt except Jeffrey Buhay of Pansol National High School and Jorey Bauyon of Tumalim High School as they hope to finished the run at 1500 m with their best time to deliver the first gold in athletics this afternoon at 1 pm, rain or shine. Buhay with slight injury which he gained in his attempt to leap frog during the training is worried as he still feels the pain on his right foot, while Bauyon, a fourth year high school from the quiet barrio of Nasugbu is promising to deliver positive result while he listens to the instructions of his coach Mr. Zaldy Alday.
Asst. Sec. Umali
DepEd Asst. Sec Tomasito Umali passionately delivered these words in sync of heavy rain, to encourage the athletes from the 15 delegations of CALABARZON IV-A in making their own history through sports during the opening ceremony of STCAA Meet 2012, Feb. 19. He also added that according to Sec. Armin Luistro what being transpired in STCAA 2012 is part of history, as he recognized the efforts of Laguna Province in developing sports in the province. Assistant Secretary reiterated that the night is about recognizing what best being done in every province. He also said that it feels good to be recognized but what more important are the reasons of recognition and to keep being good.
“Napakahusay, maganda ang ginagawa kaya ito po ay kikilalanin (the efforts of Laguna Province) hindi lamang po ngayon at kinabukasan,” Umali commented further. Earlier in his speech, Governor ER Jeorge “Ejercito” Estregan echoed the passion of Laguna in hosting the event which according
to him hundred year ago as recorded in the handbook of Philippine Public School published in 1913 when the first Southern Tagalog Regional Athletic Meet composed of Bataan, Batangas, Laguna, Rizal, Cavite and Tayabas was first hosted by the Laguna Province.
Cueto bags the first gold from the field Eleazar C. Magsino
A
neophyte runner in STCAA, Julius G. Cueto started to collect Gold in the track and field events as he outcasted all his oppenents amid excited spectators in the final round of 1,500 m dash Elementary – Boys Division in Southern Tagalog Calabarzon Athletic Association held at San Luis Colesium Sta. Cruz Laguna, February 20. At first, Cueto had shown great tactic and style of winning for he superbly ran like a hunkering tiger and bolting cheetah He did not ever dampen his animal spirit to spearhead his rivals in lightning speed. He seemed so tireless during the half of the dash and continually put his opponents behind him. The breath-taking end was so
“He knows he could win for he is determined...” thrilling when the fast runner from Quezon attempted to nip and put Cueto down. As the crowd started to stand and showed their support to Cueto, the big dome was roamed with overwhelming applaud to Batangueno's pride. The spectators continuously and loudly cheered for Cueto that brought his animal
spirit gone wild as he swiftly surpassed 50 meters away the second place winner from Quezon, Roy Teresa. “He knows he could win for he is determined.
After Cueto's winning the first gold, Jonathan Balbiran grabbed the second gold in High-Jump Secondary Boys division. Nerie Rose Bunyi placed second and bagged the first Silver Medal and her tandem Maraia Agbing ranked Third in Shot put Elementary-Girls Division. In addition, Marian Gonzales snatched the Bronze Medal in Shot put Secondary Girls Division and Joel Macatangay hold another bronze in Shot put Elementary-Boys Division.

Balbiran shares gold with Quezonian jumper Michael T. Villaluna
J
onathan Balbiran of San Vicente Manglupang National High School did not fail the Batangas Province to deliver the gold when he shared the first rank in high jump secondary boys with Jun Matibay of Sariaya, Quezon. Balbiran and Matibay agreed to share the gold rather to contend each other as they are too exhausted after several tries to leap over the bar at 1.75 meter high along with the other jumpers who were left to battle but were also ineffective in their attempts. The tournament officials decided on the jumper’s failure versus their attempt which declared Balbiran and Matibay as first, both with the least failure against the high jumpers of Laguna and Quezon. Contended in second place is George Luaton also a Quezonian jumper and Ryan Vincent Subijano of Laguna Provincein third place.

Meanwhile, Joel Macatangay of Banalo Elementary School secured the third spot of shot put elementary boys at 9.85 m span. “I am disappointed with the performance of our elementary boy throwers because in our training they consistently threw as far as 12 meters and I’m really expecting for the gold. Kinabahan ang mga bata natin,” coach Garing commented.

S
wimming team has the reason to be proud as they collected 3 gold medals and 5 silvers in the first day of their challenge. “This year’s competition is a big test for all of us, for a quite some time we did not do well as the other may say but thanks we could now give our share and what is expected for us to deliver,” coach Norman Francisco expressed emotionally. Christian Dimaculangan snatched two gold from 200 m backstroke with 2.21 min in the clock and 200 m individual medley at 2.27 min best time while his brother John Kenneth Dimaculangan finished 50 m freestyle ahead from his rivals at 30.17 sec for a gold and a silver from 50 m backstroke with 36 sec on record.
Continuously grasping the momentous day, Raul Laroza, Jaron Guttierez and Neil Dominic Altura with Christian Dimaculangan collected 3 silver medals from 4 x 50 relay padding the numbers of medals for the province. “Nagpapasalamat po ako sa mga naniniwala sa aming kakayahan, lalo po doon sa mga hindi naniniwala dahil po sa kanila ginawa po namin ang lahat sa training at sa competition at hindi naman po kami nabigo,” Christian articulated jubilantly.
“This year’s competition is a big test for all of us...”
By: Lanei C. Dimaano The 2012 Southern Tagalog CALABARZON Athletic Association (STCAA) deserves thumbs up for being the transformers and molders of youth. The consecutive months long of training in preparation for the athletes has been also the period of metamorphosis among the youth. Physically, youth must be strong enough and must gain stamina and endurance towards their body resistance in vying the title of their chosen field of sports. It’s good to know that coaches and trainers were able to develop and enhance their athletes personality and sense of discipline that include: waking up early in the morning for their calisthenics, praying every morning, eating balanced diet including the vegetables or any food served to them, doing their personal hygiene like bathing and other oral hygiene, maintaining the cleanliness of their uniform that reveals the kind of person they are and giving respect to all human being be their opponent or opposing team. Another thing that is impressive of them is not only the personal transformation they have done but also how they were able to transform an ordinary classroom as their billeting area into a bedroom during night where all of the athletes should be accommodated. Good pile of things and bedding are in good place. But when morning comes, as early 6 o’clock in the morning the aforementioned room will be transformed into a well conducive home where you can identify the living room with sofa with dining area, all furniture made from bed rolls or bed foam accentuated with curtain that coaches provided. Truly, sports is not only after playing the game but how one will be able to transform an individual in a better and productive one.
