Skill development i have experienced designing in many different scenarios from looking at landscape architecture to inhabiting extreme environments. I have strived to use materials for more than aesthetic purposes to integrate the architecture with the environment and surrounding site context. Aiming to make use of techniques and devices that are both new and most eff icient when developing a design are salient to me. Developing unique ideas out of consequence and relevant experiments has provided me with numerous ideas but also knowledge in methods of creation that wouldn’t normally be assosciated with architecture directly. Studying art has given me a broader view on creation and how the process of progression through to design can be translated in many different ways not just the most obvious.

I have always been excited by the use of technology as a vehicle in the design and creation process so become enthusiastic and find it easy to pick up and use new software packages through self teaching. Throughout university i have used a number of programs to aid me in development and representation of my designs. Technology isn’t always the method i use to create and represent and with a history in art education i am comfortable sketching and drawing accurate representations of architectural designs. Having a wide range of interests i f ind is helpful when designing and researching. I enjoy part taking in sports, previously being involved in athletics, football and more recently cycling. I also enjoy attending live music events and visiting other countries to experience their culture and how they adapt their architecture to different environments.

the (riparian) fold sits sensitively on the edge of wapping quay, creating both a fashion genration centre and a universal public space influenced and generated by process within fashion. The project aims to produce a desirable and innovative space for those that inhabit it as well as harnessing the site in an expressive way to create something forever positively fashionable. the building relays themes within fashion through its delicate tranlucent skin that changes depending on the external conditions adaptiing and protecting the structure inside echoing the ancient history of the importance of clothes. the primary form of the building was created using the proportions of the site and the process of fabric forming to create a number of forms that determined the flow of the shell. This therefore using the process of folding as an appropriate method of representing fashion.

initial ideas portrayed through montage of rhino models onto site.

primary form of building created through fabric forming plaster within the dimensions of the site.

plaster moulds break into 3 different forms possesing unpredicatable qualities.

forms translated into cad for manipulation through 3d scanning.

02 Labyrinth of Impressions the brief named “wunderkammer ,a space of wonders. The printing press has defined and forged a path for communication between the masses and the labyrinth of impressions forges a path through the gardens of the john foster building, just off hope street in liverpool. an alternate educational path that heightens both the knowledge and experience of walking through the space but also for those studying and overlooking the site.

probe based on rio tintos highly acidic river in the south of spain, a walkway and research facility for microbiologists extends over the water. The copper cladding is reminiscient of the salient mining history of the area and evolves and patternates over time to visually sympaphise with the surrounding vegetation.

PLAN VIEW SCALE 1:50 SITE: RIO TINTO RIVER

PROBE

RIO TINTO RIVER OFFERS MUCH TO HUMANKIND, A RICH MINING HISTORY GIVING IT ITS INITIAL FAME, ALSO PROVIDING A BEAUTIFUL SURREAL LANDSCAPE WITH THE RIVER FULL OF RICH HUES OF RED AND YELLOW PROVIDING INTEREST FOR PHOTOGRAPHERS AND IN RECENT TIMES BECOMING A SALIENT SITE FOR ASTRO AND MICROBIOLOISTS WITH THE LIFE WITHIN TO BE THOUGHT AT ANALOG WITH THE SUBTERRANEAN LANDSCAPE OF MARS DUE TO ITS HIGHLY ACIDIC NATURE. PROBES GANTRIES GIVE A UNIQUE EXPERIENCE TO THE OCCUPANT BY EXTENDING OUT FROM THE ROCKY LANDSCAPE OVER THE RIVER WITH TIMBER SLATTED WALKWAYS INITATING A WALK OF FAITH. THE WALKWAYS DELVE AND SLIDE THROUGH THE TALL STEEL CURLED COLUMNS GIVING A SENSE OF ADVENTURE AND MYSTERY. THEY BREAK AND WEAVE WITH THE COPPER CLADDING CELEBRATING THE RICH MINING HISTORY OF THE RIVER AND THE BIRTH OF THE COPPER AGE. A DELICATE COPPER CANOPY EXTENDS ITSELF BACK TODWARDS THE BANK SHADING AND CELEBRATING AN AREA SPECIFICALLY DESIGNED FOR MICRO AND ASTROBIOLOGISTS TO COMPLETE THEIR FIELD WORK, ALSO GIVING OCCUPANTS THE CHANCE TO LEARN AND EXPERINCE THE CURRENT WORK OF SCIENTISTS AND THE ADVANCES IN RESEARCH AND HOW WE ARE INCREASING OUR KNOWLEDGE OF UNKNOWN LIFEFORMS. THE PATTERNS FORGED BY THE DELICATED CLADDING AND CANOPY SUGGEST THE SHADING OF A LIGHT STRUCTURE SIMILAR TO THE THIN DELICATE YET PROTECTIVE TEXTURE OF A LEAF, THE PERFORATIONS ALLOW VARIED LEVELS OF LIGHT MUCH HOW THE LEAF ALOWS VARYING LEVELS OF CARBON DIOXIDE THROUGH THE STOMATA. ALL OF THIS IS STRUNG IN TENSION FROM THE POWERFUL CURVED COLUMS MUCH LIKE THE CURVED RIDGES OF THE LEAF PROVIDING THE ESSENTIAL STRUCTURE OF THE FORM. PROBE IS A CELEBRATION AND EXPLORATION OF THE PAST PRESENT AND ON GOING REACH INTO THE FURTURE.

Natures printer Digital fabrication is fast becoming an accesible means of creation through 3d printing. Initial and readily avaliable materials are in the form of plastics not only creating ultra fine particles and potenital health risks but if the true and ideal process is to be realised then natural materials should be both the input and output of these devices. Although there are breakthroughs making use of a corn based platic called PLA that is biodegradable. This stand is a symbol of what is to come. Spiders fill the form with their cobwebs, that are 5 times stronger than steel equivalent in weight. This natural blueprint is an education to us not only in terms of a strong and supportive form but through an aim to create and use these materials in multiple ways. The forms is inspired from the early stages of a spiders web as it casts the initial few strands forming the foundations of the web. Sitting between thin layers of perspex the spiders work away almost unnoticed to forge a delicated canopy of silk. Information boards hang from the canopy adding understanding and knowledge of 3d printing process for those that venture beneath.
