Shandon Travel wins National Travel Award Cork Company Shandon Travel has been named “Most Innovative Travel Agent” at the recent Irish Travel Industry Awards held in the Mansion House in Dublin. The awards are held each year to recognise excellence in the Travel Industry and are voted for by travel professionals throughout the country. Shandon Travel has been breaking new ground since its foundation by Michael Doorley as a retail shop on Oliver Plunkett Street in 1974. The French Holiday Centre was added in 1982, the student business SAYIT Travel opened in 1989, and they purchased West Cork Travel with its portfolio of products in 2006. The company also has nine websites including a honeymoon site, a dedicated site to Latin America and j1.ie which deals with student USA visas, internships and trainee programmes. • Basketball players Sean, Jack, Mikey, Mike, Anton, Robbie and Jordan of Fr. “It is important to innovate as the industry is moving from bricks and mortar to clicks and mortar”, Michael Doorley says. “At Shandon Travel we have our eggs in a lot of baskets. Between our core business as a high street travel agent, our student and independent travel business, our over 50’s portfolio of products and our corporate and internet business we have covered a lot of niche markets.” In 2012 the company will target the corporate sector with the launch of their new Business Travel website. Shandon Business Travel can provide corporate clients with their own customised and self-branded Business Travel portal completely free of charge. Doorley says “The portal is much more than just a self- booking tool, it is a comprehensive travel management solution and is the best on the market, and we are only one of three companies in Ireland who have this technology”. “Despite the current economic times we look forward to continually evolving and developing our range of products” Doorley concluded.

A woman showed up for an announced home-brewed beer contest at an agricultural show in Queenstown, New Zealand, but was told it was a “blokes only” affair and she was sent away. “Who cares if I have or haven’t got balls?” the 36-year-old woman asked. An official from Human Rights Commission said that “On the face of it, the competition may be breaching the Human Rights Act,” but added they wouldn’t investigate unless an official complaint was filed. The woman, whose real name is Rachel Beer, said she would not file a formal complaint. (RC/New Zealand Herald) ...It sounds like she’s the only sober person involved.

Our poem this week comes from Rose Kelleher who grew up in Massachusetts and lives in Maryland. Her poems have been published in many journals and anthologies, most recently Snakeskin, Soundzine and The Raintown Review. Her first book, Bundle o’ Tinder, won the 2007 Anthony Hecht Poetry Prize and was published in 2008 by Waywiser Press.
Overheard in Kelly’s Pub
“Fresh off the boat you’d think the lad, with his me Ayrish mither this and his Kilkenny relations that. How fond of saying ‘tis the fellow is! But should you ask him when ‘e arrived at Logan Airport, you’ll discover that he was born in Woburn; ‘twas his greatgreat Grandma, Kate O’Whatshername, God love ‘er, who stowed away in 1828.” “These Boston Irish are a funny bunch, pretending that they’re Ireland born and bred. An Irishman showed up here once for lunch; no one could understand a word he said!” O’Malley waves. Of course he’ll have a Guinness, which, with a wince, he’ll sip, but never finish. Rose Kelleher Send your poem to ‘The Poetry Corner’ / Douglas Post, Morris House, Douglas or you can email it direct to ronniemcginn@ eircom.net. If possible keep your poem to 20 lines. You may choose any subject you like, in any form you like as long as it’s original. We look forward to hearing from you. RonnieMcGinn

Jerry Buttimer TD
School building projects for Cork Fine Gael TD Jerry Buttimer has welcomed the inclusion of nine schools in Cork South Central in the five year building programme. “I am delighted that nine schools in Cork South Central have been included in the €1.5 billion five year building programme announced by the Minister for Education and Skills. In the five year period up to 2016 five new schools will be built, this will include two new primary schools and three new secondary schools. As well as the new schools much needed extensions will be delivered for three primary schools and one secondary school. “The location of these projects is recognition of the population of growth which has occurred in Cork South Central. Over the last ten years the population of Cork South Central has increased by over 9%, much of this increase is young families who have set up home in Carrigaline, Douglas, Grange and Rochestown. This announcement is commitment to these families; it is prioritising the education needs of their children. “As part of this investment a new Educate Together Primary School will be built at Heron’s Wood, Carrigaline and the location of the other new primary school in the southern suburbs is to be finalised. Two new secondary schools are to be built in Carrigaline and a new post-primary school is also to be built at Ashton Comprehensive School. The building programme also includes extensions at: Scoil Phadraig Naofa, Rochestown; Carrigaline Community School; Douglas Boys National School; and Scoil Nioclais, Frankfield, Grange. Extensions to St. Angela’s and Scoil Mhuire secondary schools have also been included in the five year school building project. “The schools included in this announcement are in addition to the 60 schools which are under construction at present, most of which will be completed during 2012. In Cork South Central a new school in Ballygarvan has been completed and work at St. Marys National School in Waterpark, Carrigaline is due to be completed this year. “A total of €1.5 billion will be invested by the Government between now and the end of 2016 to provide these new and improved school buildings. This will include 106 new schools and 65 extensions at primary level, 43 new schools and 49 extensions at second level, and 8 new special schools and 4 extensions at special schools. “The Government is acting now in order to prepare for the huge increase in pupil numbers expected over the next few years. It’s anticipated that there will be an increase of 45,000 children going to primary school, and 25,000 at second level between now and 2017. “In announcing a five year programme the government is delivering on its commitment in the Programme for Government to prioritise school building projects. Nationally this investment will deliver approximately 18,000 jobs over the period of the programme.”

Anthem Tax ? “I don’t think the national anthem is something we ought to be joking around with,” said U.S.Indiana state Sen. Vaneta Becker, explaining her proposed law to regulate the singing of “The Star Spangled Banner” -- the national anthem. Under the bill, the state education department would create “performance standards,” and anyone singing the anthem for school events would have to agree to comply -- and face a $25 fine if the performance broke the rules. Becker said she was prompted by a constituent who was upset about altered lyrics that had been used in a school program, but says she had also heard the song parodied on TV. (AC/Indianapolis Star) ...In some public schools, just singing “the land of the free and the home of the brave” is parody enough.
Budget Buy Tyres & Valeting primarily offer great value for money and excellent customer service, but first and foremost they guarantee honesty in all their dealings. They make buying tyres and getting your car valeted affordable with valets starting from just €15, new tyres from €40 and tracking from €15 They will Listen carefully to your needs and will recommend what is best to suit you, working with your budget, giving you excellent value for money and with no charges for any extras making them the number one choice. Keith Kelleher has worked in the tyre business for over 15years but was made redundant from work and at the same time his wife was also let go from her job and at the time they had two children under the age of two and a mortgage it was time to sink or swim. They got the basic redundancy package and put everything into opening Budget Buy Tyres & Valeting and have worked extremely hard at making it a success. Keith knew what it was like to try to survive when things were tough so he promised, given the chance that he would bring the cheapest and best deals to the locals along with pure honesty as this is what he firmly believe gives the business an excellent reputation. Keith says he finds the local people are great and are fab to deal with, plus word of mouth goes around very quickly, which is a great help. He hopes to continue providing the people of Cork with an honest affordable service in Tyres and Valeting and maybe in time branch out into other areas around the city.

& Repair programme in Cork there is a now a local phone number, 0214536554, which older people can call to arrange to have jobs done around their homes free of charge. Age Action’s Care & Repair service uses a pool of trustworthy volunteer handypersons to carry out oddjobs and DIY work for older people who find it difficult to do these jobs themselves. Some of the jobs that our volunteers can do include changing light bulbs, minor painting and decorating, hanging curtains, minor gardening, minor carpentry and installing smoke alarms. The service is free; clients only pay for the materials used. For bigger jobs that are beyond the scope of the volunteers, Age Action maintains a register of reliable and honest tradespersons whose contact details can be provided. Free Hearing Tests in County Cork for Hearing Action Week 2012 Free hearing tests will be available in County Cork throughout Hearing Action Week 2012 which takes place from Monday 26th March. The free tests will be provided by Hidden Hearing at its branch at 27 Marlboro St., Cork City and its clinics in Jim Farrell FAOI Opticians, Mallow Primary Healthcare Centre, Goulds Hill, Mallow; Orlagh Burke Opticians, 6 Time Square, Ballincollig; Douglas Eye Care Centre, U21 Douglas Shopping Centre; Súil Eile Optometrists, 125 North Main St., Youghal; The Park Clinic, Fermoy and Munster Treatment Rooms, Bank House, Bridge St., Bantry, Co. Cork. Hearing Action Week is an all island national awareness campaign run by Hidden Hearing in association with the Irish Deaf Society highlighting the issue of hearing loss. This year the campaign will focus on encouraging people to take action on their hearing loss, highlighting that some people delay for up to 15 years in addressing the issue. A host of initiatives will be held during the week making it easier for people to take action. These include two mobile hearing screening clinics visiting towns and cities throughout the country offering free hearing screenings. A website www. hearingactionweek.ie has been set up to provide tips and advice of hearing loss, details of the mobile clinic itinerary and an online hearing test. Hidden Hearing will also be providing free hearing tests at each of its 65 clinics during the week. Discussing Hearing Action Week 2012, Dr. Nina Byrnes, Hidden Hearing’s Medical Advisor said: “We are delighted to launch Hearing Action Week 2012, which will help people take a proactive approach to their hearing health. Loss of the ability to hear or discriminate sounds is one of the most common everyday disabilities in Ireland. Research in the area has shown that hearing loss affects almost one of every six people in the country and a third of Irish people over the age of 60. It’s important if you notice issues with your hearing that you address the problem early and take positive action. Research has shown that some people delay far too long in addressing their hearing loss and this can affect their

Erectile Dysfunction Erectile dysfunction (impotence) is the inability to get and keep an erection firm enough for sex. Having erection trouble from time to time isn’t necessarily a cause for concern. But if erectile dysfunction is an ongoing problem, it may cause stress, cause relationship problems or affect your self-confidence.
Causes Male sexual arousal is a complex process that involves the brain, hormones, emotions, nerves, muscles and blood vessels. Erectile dysfunction can result from a problem with any of these. Likewise, stress and mental health problems can cause or worsen erectile dysfunction. Sometimes a combination of physical and psychological issues cause How do I handle mum’s Alzheimer’s?
erectile dysfunction. For instance, a minor physical problem that slows your sexual response may cause anxiety about maintaining an erection. The resulting anxiety can lead to or worsen erectile dysfunction.
Physical causes of erectile dysfunction In most cases, erectile dysfunction is caused by something physical. Common causes include: • Heart disease • Clogged blood vessels (atherosclerosis) • High blood pressure • Diabetes • Obesity • Metabolic syndrome, a condition involving increased blood pressure, high insulin levels, body fat around the waist and high cholesterol •
Diabetes, what do I do now?
Parkinson’s disease • Multiple sclerosis • Low testosterone
Psychological causes of erectile dysfunction The brain plays a key role in triggering the series of physical events that cause an erection, starting with feelings of sexual excitement. A number of things can interfere with sexual feelings and cause or worsen erectile dysfunction. These include: Depression, anxiety or other mental health conditions, Stress, Fatigue and Relationship problems due to stress, poor communication or other concerns.
Lifestyle and home remedies For many men, erectile dysfunction is caused or worsened by lifestyle

The aim of the project is to allow students to explore, investigate and debate their local heritage in a constructive, active and fun way. Co-ordinator and founder of the project, Cllr Kieran McCarthy noted that “The project is about thinking about, understanding, appreciating and making relevant in today’s society the role of our heritage- our landmarks, our oral histories, our scenery in our modern world for upcoming citizens. The project also focuses on motivating and inspiring young people, giving them an opportunity to develop leadership and self development skills, which are very important in the world we live in today.” The City Edition of the Project is funded by Cork Civic Trust, Cork City Council, The Heritage Council, Cllr Kieran McCarthy, Lifetime Lab and Sean Kelly of Lucky Meadows Equestrian Centre. Grass Cuttings!
A small herb garden is an essential part of any country kitchen. Technically speaking, herbs are just plants without permanent woody stems. Herbs may be grown on their own or within your garden. Some herbs are beneficial to other plants in your garden.
Herbs are not just for eating
Written by Anna M. Hartman
Traditional Herb Garden
Some herbs like dill, fennel and parsley attract some of the more beneficial insects to your garden. Planting requirements for herbs
Try a herb garden with the following favourites: sweet basil, oregano, thyme, rosemary and chives. An organic herb garden can make or break your culinary experience. Because only very small amounts of herbs are needed, an herb garden itself can be small but with huge rewards. Enjoy the visual beauty of herbs
Herbs come in many different forms. Some herbs, like rosemary, can grow into huge flowering hedges which are excellent for attracting bees.
As you know, herbs are both flavourful and fragrant. A potted kitchen herb garden can add convenience, beauty and a pleasant smell to your home. Herbs are beneficial plants for your garden
Soil with a pH close to 7 is ideal for your herb garden. Herbs also enjoy a lot of sunlight and little wind. Herbs are well worth growing and may be a good starter garden for the overwhelmed. Herbs compliment any garden or kitchen with their incredible beauty and endless utility.
Garden Competition Our Summer Gardening Competition, is not that far away and will be open to all our readers. You can win a prize every week from May to September. So get out the hoe and start now for a stunning summer garden. If your garden or any part of your garden is blooming, or just looking good, why not lets us have a photo. We would love to print it. If you have a neighbor with a nice garden who might be a bit shy, why not take a photo for them. Send your photo to Gardening, Douglas Post, Morris House, Douglas. Cork. Or email to frontdesk@douglaspost.ie
Your Grass Cuttings can be turned into a valuable asset; they can save you money on fertilizer and garden maintenance, so don’t throw them away or dump them on the roadside.
Composting grass clippings using freshly cut grass is an economical way to create nitrogen rich fertilizer. Fresh clippings have a lot of moisture so you may want to let them dry out a bit before adding them to your compost heap. The freshly cut grass may stick together in clumps and this will inhibit the flow of oxygen in the heap. This can create a strong ammonia like odor, and the grass may develop a white mold. Dried out clippings alleviates these problems. At the bottom of your heap place a layer of browns. Browns are high carbon materials such as autumn leaves, broken up sticks, wood chips, even finely shredded newspaper. This brown matter will enable oxygen flow through the compost when added in layers between grass. You should alternate your layers, a layer of browns and a layer of grass clippings. Aerate your compost heap to keep the oxygen flowing. Aerate the heap by turning the compost material with a garden pitch fork. When composting grass clippings it is important to aerate the compost on a regular basis. To avoid the odors, souring and clumping of grass in your compost

heap dry out the grass clipping by spreading them on a flat surface for at least a day prior to putting them in your heap. Grasscycling
Grasscycling is the easiest way to handle your grass clippings and use them to fertilize your lawn. Just leaving the grass clippings when they fall from the mower on the lawn is grasscycling. This saves money on lawn fertilizer and you won’t need to bag and move your grass cuttings. You will need to make sure the grass is dry when you cut it so the clippings don’t clump and dull the mower blade. Clippings and Chemicals
If your lawn has recently been treated with herbicides or pesticides, you do not want to add this grass to your compost heap. Do not add this grass to your compost heap until the rain has washed off the chemicals. Adding lime to your compost heap will speed up the decomposing process, prevent the formation of mold, and the development of odors. Composting grass clippings is an economical way to create nitrogen rich fertilizer for your garden. You can also simply leave your grass clippings on the lawn as a form of grasscycling. As the loose grass decompose, your lawn will benefit with this type of fertilizing. Go to Composting Grass Clippings for more free information on composting.

Douglas Students make Presentation to Dáil Committee to mark Seachtain Na Gaeilge Festival The Seachtain Na Gaeilge Festival was marked with a unique event in the Leinster House last week which involved students from Douglas Community School making a presentation to the Oireachtas Committee on Environment, Transport, Culture and the Gaeltacht. The Douglas students were one of three schools invited nationally to address members of the Committee and other Members of the Oireachtas. The students discussed their views about education education and employment, sport, Irish culture and language. The addresses were followed by a question and answer session involving the Members and the students present. Committee Cathaoirleach Ciarán Lynch, TD said: “This presentation made by the students was a great opportunity for the Committee and the Oireachtas to celebrate and mark Seachtain Na Gaeilge with many of the young people who will play a key part of keeping the Irish language alive and part of our culture into the future. The festival motto this year is “Croí na Gaeilge – It’s You (Heart of the Language – It’s You!) and it aims to include everyone, no matter where they are, in the renewal of the Irish language. Over 150,000 people of all ages and all levels of fluency in Irish take part in the festival which ranges from street Céilís to television programmes.” Deputy Lynch further added, “I would particularly like to thank both the students and teaching staff at Douglas Community School for assisting the Committee by their participation in what was a very successful event. This was the first time an event of this type was held in the Dáil and as Committee Chair I will be recommending that is will now be held annually.”

“You Could Have Had It All” is the brand new single from Oisín, Killkenny singer-songwriter, released earlier this month. He is taking part in a fantastic new education initiative called the TY talent tour, which will see him visiting TY classes around Ireland, encouraging them to organize their own live entertainment in an effort to provide a platform for undiscovered talent within schools! He has already visited two schools in Cork and will also be visiting two more soon. The debut single is from his forthcoming album “Flying High”. Co-Produced by Oisín and Conor O’Farrell Brady, and recorded at Phonic Studios Dublin, the unreleased single has already garnered mention in the media, receiving a triumphant review in Hot Press last November and being named as single of the week on regional radio KCLR. Oisín is passionate about live music and live musicians and stands by the “don’t do backing tracks, sorry!” policy. He takes influence from all genres and looks toward such acts as One Republic, Ed Sheeran, The Script and James Morrison for his lead. Oisín put together the current live band featuring Aidan Brennan and Robbie Malone, and when larger performances call he further enlists the talents of Conor O’Farrell Brady, Cian Boylan and Paul Byrne to tour as a full six piece band. Light & Frothy The first time I met her, my jaw dropped. I couldn’t believe that so much bad luck could be visited on one poor, unfortunate person. I was both shocked by her misfortune and humbled by my naïveté that if I was alright then so was everyone else. On the 10th occasion I met her, she was still bleeding on about the same woes and had accumulated new ones to wail about; I started to see her as a disease. I read an article in a magazine once that said friends come in two types; Radiators and Drainers. How you tell the difference depends on how you feel after you have spent time with them. This girl would drain the life out of the sun and any time I met her I felt my energy seep away and all my good will evaporate. Life is what it is. How you see it is what you are. I was ready to strangle this person. My sister urged me to bite my tongue and to use soft words since I might have to eat them afterwards. “If she bothers you that much avoid her and if you do see her, keep it light and frothy.” I tried that. Returning from a holiday, I made a comment about the rain. She looked at me and whined, “The weather was great until you arrived.” I snapped back and said, “Do you ever say anything nice?” She looked startled, “What do you mean?” My sister looked at me with pleading eyes but I plunged on, “If everything is so terrible, why don’t you emigrate?” She looked at me crossly and said, “I’m very content!” Enduring one socio-path who lived next door to me several years ago and who decided I was her ‘friend’ forced me to give some serious thought as to what makes a friend. I googled, I read, I researched and stewed on it for days. Friendship, like all healthy relationships, is about give and take. How much give and how much take must feel comfortable to both parties. Every time, I was with this woman I felt fleeced and she always managed to hoodwink me into minding her
children. She seemed incapable of considering anyone else’s needs but her own. I decided in this case the pendulum had swung too far into her court on the take side and I had had enough. I felt incredibly guilty because she was supposed to be my friend but it was getting to the point that I dreaded the sight of her. Then the penny dropped: I didn’t like her. It didn’t lessen the guilt but it did make it easier to finally say to her enough is enough. I chose my moment carefully to tell her the earth shattering news. She shrugged and said that’s ok. The following week she found someone else. Then I was furious. I had put up with her greed all that time purely because I was incapable of saying no. In dealing with miserable people, although it conflicts deeply with my nosy tendencies, I think the Light and Frothy approach is the only way. You can include many positive people in your life but misery merchants are unavoidable if you are related to, live next door, or you work with one. I worked with a girl years ago and if you asked her how her weekend went, she nearly always dissolved into tears. Her boyfriend stood her up and then made her eat humble pie, a friend got crushed under a tree, she had a fight with the postman. Everything was a disaster. In the beginning, I did the right thing and listened. I would give her my sixpence worth as to how she could resolve her bottomless pit of issues but I soon found myself short of breath: she wasn’t listening. She was waiting for me to shut up so she could say, Yes, but…..” I had to become selfish and avoid engaging her in conversation in anything deeper than the weather. That’s why the weather is so useful: there’s endless variation to it, it’s neutral; it doesn’t care what politics you follow, what race you are or whether you go to mass: the sun shines equally for everyone.
Oh Yeah ! War does not determine who is right - only who is left.
Smart Guy! I asked God for a bike, but I know God doesn’t work that way. So I stole a bike and asked for forgiveness.

G.A.A. FOCUS By Pat Harrington Snippets from the local and National Scene Cork vs. Waterford
The week following the Cork vs. Waterford game witnessed some of the local scribes losing the run of themselves with their comments on Cork hurling, Jimmy Barry Murphy and Conor Lehane. Let’s first take Conor Lehane. Yes he had a fine game, showed wonderful skill and is a player for the future. In one piece Conor was compared to the great Tony O’Sullivan. For the benefit of those not acquainted with the Na Piarsaigh man, O’Sullivan played with Cork senior hurlers against Kilkenny in the all-Ireland final of 1982. At the time he was being compared to the great Christy Ring. Now Ringey won eight all-Ireland medals and was reportedly very skilful, and was teak tough.(Regrettably I did not see Christy play). For those who didn’t see O’Sullivan play, he was a very skilful player but could not be described as teak tough. In that final of ’82 Paddy Prendergast just blew him out of the water. My reason for these comments is to express my opinion that the press regularly goes over the top. This is a learning curve for Conor Lehane; we need to be careful not to set him up as was the youthful Tony O’Sullivan. One columnist compared Jimmy Barry Murphy to Liverpool manager Kenny Dalglish. Oh come off the stage, comments such as these are more appropriate to Roy of the Rovers. Jimmy was very skilful at both hurling and football. I first saw him playing football with Cork in the 1973 season. He made his intercounty hurling debut in 1976. If one is to make comparisons let’s try this: At best Cork will play 12 games in the year. Liverpool will play up to 30 (Maybe more) Jimmy must manage with players available to him, whereas Dalglish can buy in players. One operates in an amateur sport, the other is fully professional. Now that’s fine, but let’s be optimistic. This is only March – not August. The question I would ask is: Did Waterford field a good side? Cork vs. Donegal (Football)
This game was played in very difficult conditions; the day was cold, wet and windy. Donegal welcomed back a number of their players from injury. The game was not pleasing to the eye. Gaelic football at times resembles International Rules, e.g. In Gaelic football, if a player is caught in possession and surrounded by a number of the opposition, that player will be penalised by the referee for
Local Clubs 22 - Thur 22 March ’12
overcarrying. In Australian Rules the player in possession is dragged to the ground. This game was awful to watch at times. Donegal deserved to win though they played absolutely boring football – so many punch passes. After 55 minutes the northerners had 5 or 6 scores on the board; Cork for their sins failed to score for thirty minutes following the break. Donegal having lost their opening games will be well pleased with this one. Cork has now lost five points out of a possible ten and they now face Dublin and Mayo. The Rebels may still make the concluding stages of the league but it certainly is not a gimme. A point that the management should address is the fact that this team does not handle very well when the opposition get in their face. This situation was very evident, particularly in the second half of the game against Armagh as Cork spilt a lot of ball and again in this game against Donegal. Yes, playing conditions should be better in the summer but Cork need to distribute the ball more quickly.

Third Level Colleges
I was interested in a recent discussion on the Sigerson and Fitzgibbon Cup competitions. One journalist made a good point when he asked the question, who remembers the winners of last years competitions? The point he was making was that except for the participants and their small band of supporters, the general public had no interest. Burnout was another issue as these competitions are treated with great intensity by the more high-profile colleges. The club players and those on intercounty panels are being pulled and dragged all over the place. A situation which I would consider worse than bad practice is where some players are allowed play with universities when they are not fulltime students. My own take is that both competitions are of a very high standard of play. There is no doubt that they are of great benefit to players hoping to make their mark at intercounty level. More is the pity that they are not well supported by the public. Intercounty managers often attend to run the eye over some players. These competitions have been around for a very long time – attendances are not a major issue. Congratulations to Douglas man Stephen Moylan who made a huge impact for U.C.C. in extra time and in the process won a Fitzgibbon Cup medal.

After David O’Connor & Gary Hartnett forced good saves from the visitor’s keeper in the opening
quarter, Shane Burke & Rory Prata put Passage two in front before half-time. A resurgent Hall took the game to their opponents on the resumption of the second-half, with Eric Compagno reducing the deficit on the hour mark. Despite creating a number of scoring chances, the hosts were denied by an inspired keeper and can count themselves unlucky not to have come away with a least a point. Murphy’s Youth Cup Richmond 1; Douglas Hall B 3
A brace by Mark O’Connor and a third from David O’Connor secured a quarter-final place at Waterfall last Monday morning. In a close opening quarter, both teams shared a goal apiece before the visitors gained control and should have finished further in front at the finish.

In the final played over eighteen ends Midleton opened the scoring with a two in the first and a two in the second to lead by four shots but over the next seven ends, Crosshaven scored twelve shots to leave them leading (12/4) at the halfway stage. In a very exciting second half Midleton staged a good comeback by winning five ends to reduce the deficit to six shots at the end of the match.
