Thumb Twiddling Time Dear Editor, Are Rebel and Banner Hurlers to be idle for the next twelve months? The respective County Boards have come with a novel idea to help cash strapped treasures to survive the barren spell. A “Lovely Rose of Clare” and a “Leeside Lass” Festival will take place in Ennis and Cork over the summer months. The wiley Frank Murphy has organized a sponsored “Tug-of-War” contest between Clare net-minder Davie Fitzgerald and Rock-of-Cloyne, Diarmuid O’Sullivan. The Banner hope to square events with a Suma Wrestling match, Joe Deane V. gentle giant Brian Lohan! Highlights of the Ennis affair will be a vote as to whether Biddy Early of Ger Loughnane should take a fast pony out of town to insure the McCarthy Cup once more reaches the Hills of Clare! Others favour a long F.. ,Ops I beg your pardon! A Long Puck Competition between the pair to decide the issue! So it’s all happening – Clár agus Corcaigh - come Summer! Irish retailer opens a third Cork store -Kilkenny Store supporting a ‘Buy Irish’ mentalityThe Kilkenny Group proudly opens its doors in Douglas, Co. Cork, its 3rd in the rebel county. Hailing from Blarney, Co. Cork, the family-run business has been steadily increasing its nationwide retail footprint in recent times, with 12 stores now located around the country. Trading begins in the new store on Friday 2nd November in Douglas Court. Greg O’Gorman, Marketing Manager, Kilkenny Group, commented: “We are delighted to be opening a new store in our home county and, most importantly, creating more employment in Cork. Despite the current retail and economic climate, we are continuing to strongly promote Irish craft and design, and we are confident that Irish consumers are also embracing a ‘Buy Irish’ mentality. There has never been a better time to buy Irish and support indigenous business”. Advocators of Irish design for over 40 years, the Kilkenny Group is dedicated to supporting the Irish economy and the creation of jobs, estimating to have increased their workforce by 100 employees from 2011 to 2013. The new Douglas store is the second new premises to be opened by the company in the last 2 months, having recently opened a new shop on Dublin’s Grafton St. Kilkenny’s new Douglas store opening couldn’t come at a better time for consumers as the busy Christmas season approaches. With a fantastic array of decorations and gifts in store from top Irish and international labels, the Kilkenny shop has all you need to make this Christmas magical. Stocking brands such as Nicholas Mosse, Stephen Pearce, John Rocha, Guess and Fossil, not to mention Cork’s largest selection of Orla Kiely accessories, Kilkenny’s Douglas store has all your gifting needs covered for the festive season and beyond.

Speaking at the Irish Banking Federation Conference in Dublin last week, Fiona Muldoon, head of Banking Supervision at the Central Bank, called on the banks to face up to the mortgage arrears problems. This follows the shocking figures released by the Central Bank that reveal 167,000 mortgages, totalling €35bn in loans, are now currently in arrears. The mortgage arrears problem will never be solved if the only approach on offer is the continuing extending of forbearance, especially in circumstances where this further compounds the financial problems of homeowners in mortgage difficulties. As Chair of the Finance Committee, I will be looking to hear from Allied Irish Bank (AIB) and Bank of Ireland (BoI) when they appear before the Committee on the 31st of October and the 1st of November respectively, to update it on their progress. I will also be asking them to inform the Committee on how they have successfully adapted their practices and procedures in dealing with distressed mortgages in preparation for the forthcoming Personal Insolvency Bill, which seeks to rebalance the relationship between borrower and lender.

Poetry Corner with Ronnie McGinn
The recourses of poetry are as in exhaustible as human experience but without freshness and originality, poetry cannot achieve success. The apparatus of modern life, with its multiplicity of communication methods, formal documents and newspaper reports, accustoms us to language that in many ways has grown dead and stale. That is why, in making an assessment of a new poem, or the work of a poet you have not come across before, you must look, not only at what the poet says, but the manner in which it is said. Katherine O’Riordan of the Bishopstown Writers group, whom we recently heard on Cork Community Radio reading an engrossing story from her ever popular book “A Certain Time, A Certain Place”, sends us this week’s aptly appropriate and truly seasonal poem.
Cork Community Radio
November Walk From overhanging faded leafs The wet is dripping onto skiddy paths The pale green sky is putting the watery sun to bed. In a long procession the rooks go home Winging their way all in the same direction. The lone stragglers follow at a distance. From the hedgerows waft the smell of earthy decay. A little bird has fallen Like a brown leaf on the ground. It lies stone dead. It’s tiny claws spread out stiffly. Another shower is falling And we turn back the way we came. Oh, for a hot dinner And an evening by the fire! Katherine O'Riordan Send your poem to ‘The Poetry Corner’ / Douglas Post, Unit 29 C, St Patrick’s Mills, Douglas or you can email it direct to ronniemcginn@ eircom.net. If possible keep your poem to 20 lines. You may choose any subject you like, in any form you like as long as it’s original. We look forward to hearing from you. RonnieMcGinn

Banish stress from your life....
Learn Self Hypnosis
A few minutes a day can change your life 6 Evenings beginning November 5th • Easy to learn • Feel great • Sleep better

Robin Hill Clinic, Cobh Tel: 021 481 2222 www.LiveYourLife.com
Would you like to reduce your stress? Sleep better? Be more relaxed and in control? 7th Path Self-Hypnosis® is a very simple two-step process that almost anyone can learn to do in a very short period of time. Then when you have learned the basic concepts and suggestions, if you want to, you can go on to learning more advanced techniques. Really, the process is amazing. It is an excellent tool for self-discovery, self-expression and self improvement. You can use it for a whole lot of things such as keeping you on track to lose weight or to exercise more; to overcome fears such as public speaking. In short you can use it to let go of any kind of behaviour that you want to stop. You can replace those old unwanted habits with new more powerful, healthy habits and use this system to help you do that. You can reduce stress, improve your sleep; you can improve your selfconfidence and self-esteem. You can get better relationships, better communication, even better sex – who doesn't want that? This is an excellent system to keep you on track with achieving your goals such as with weight loss and motivation to exercise. This system is a holistic mind, body and spirit approach. It takes into account the whole person. You can really get yourself engaged on every single level and how this works is it connects you or strengthens your connection with your higher purpose, your higher self your
higher power, however you conceive that to be. This system works with every religion and with every spiritual belief and practice. It's better if you do have some sort of spiritual belief, however it's not required. There are various recognitions in the system. A recognition is just a hypnotic statement that you say to yourself. It induces the hypnotic state; it deepens the hypnotic state; it becomes a hypnotic suggestion. You can even use it when walking around every day as an affirmation. It rewrites old programmes; it gets rid of them – we call this emptying the cup and filling the cup with new programmes. Getting rid of all the old rubbish, the gunk and the junk; ridding yourself of all that old baggage that doesn't serve you any more, and put in the sparkling shiny new programmes designed to let you really live the life you need and the life you deserve. Says. Deirdre Mackesy, Director at Robin Hill Clinic in Cobh "I think everybody should be doing this. It's a powerful system and puts you back in control of your life". What will you use it for? Course facilitated by Mark Casey Consultant Hypnotist with many years experience in this field. Contact Robin Hill Clinic on 021 4812222 to book your place or contact Mark direct on 087 093 98 94 and he will be happy to answer your questions.

Cellulite Most women have cellulite — fat that appears as dimpled skin on their thighs, hips and buttocks. Though not a serious medical condition, cellulite can be unsightly, and it may make you self-conscious when wearing shorts or a swimming suit. Many cellulite treatments, including massages or cellulite creams, advertise remarkable results. But unfortunately, most of these treatments don’t live up to their claims. So is there anything you can do about cellulite?
Causes Cellulite is caused by fibrous connective cords that connect the skin
How do I handle mum’s Alzheimer’s?
to the underlying muscle. The cords tether the skin to deeper structures, with the fat lying in between. As the fat cells accumulate, they push up against the skin, while the long, tough cords are pulling down. This creates an uneven surface or dimpling.
Risk factors Cellulite is much more common in women than in men. In fact, the majority of women — at least eight out of 10 — have some degree of cellulite. This is because fat is typically distributed in women in the thighs, hips and buttocks — common areas for cellulite. In addition, cellulite
Diabetes, what do I do now?
is more common with aging, when the skin loses some of its elasticity. Other factors that may increase your chances of having cellulite include: • Stress • An inactive lifestyle • Using hormonal contraceptives Treatments Weight loss Weight loss — through healthy diet and regular exercise — is probably the most beneficial cellulite treatment. Losing pounds and strengthening muscles in your legs, thighs and buttocks can improve the appearance of the dimpled skin. Many devices, products and creams claim to treat cellulite. But there is little or no scientific evidence to support these claims. If you do find a

cellulite treatment that improves your skin, the results aren’t likely to last long term.
Prevention There is no way to prevent getting cellulite. Keeping off excess pounds and strengthening your muscles through regular exercise, however, can go a long way toward maintaining your skin tone and texture. Additional €2m available for The Gathering 2013 Event organisers in Cork should apply for funding to ensure maximise impact for events and festivalsFine Gael Cork South Central TD, Jerry Buttimer, has welcomed the announcement of an additional €2 million in funding for the Gathering 2013. Half of the funding is being provided by IPB insurance with matching funds being supplied by Government. These additional funds are being made available due to the huge number of festivals and events that are being planned across the country as a means of attracting the Irish Diaspora to come home to Ireland next year. “Two million euro in additional funding for The Gathering 2013 will be used to organise events and activities at local level. This will be of great assistance to people across Cork in their efforts to organise local gatherings as part of the biggest tourism initiative ever planned in Ireland. “The fund will be administered by local authorities to support activities and I am encouraging anyone in Cork who is interested in planning an event to get in touch with either Cork City or Cork County Council. Each council will be administering grants of between €25,000 and €60,000 which will support up to three flagship events. or local and community events grants of between €500 and €2,500 will also be available. “The Gathering 2013 is a fantastic opportunity for each locality to demonstrate all they have to offer. It’s a fantastic excuse to bring friend and family home or to encourage those who merely have an interest in Ireland and Irish culture to pay us a visit. It is hoped that the year-long series of festivals and events will bring an additional 325,000 tourists to Ireland next year which have a significant impact on our economy, contributing to our overall economic recovery. “The Gathering will not only have benefits for tourism in Cork but it should also bring enhanced opportunities for the business community in terms of forging links and relationships for future trade. “To date, there have been between 6,000 and 7,000 people attending meetings to organise events in every constituency in Ireland. It is estimated that the additional funds announced today will help to support a further 700 events across the country. IPB is to be commended for its generosity in making funds available and I would encourage anyone in Cork who is interested in getting involved with The Gathering to contact their local authority to apply for funding.”

Know Your Rights - Tax refund from abroad Question: Last month, I left my job and moved to England to start a postgraduate course. Can I get a refund of the tax I paid from January to August this year?
Answer: As you are not working and you no longer live in Ireland you may be entitled to a refund of some of the tax you paid this year. This is because under the PAYE system your tax liability is spread out evenly over the year. To do this your tax liability is normally calculated on a cumulative basis. This means that when an employer calculates your tax liability, they actually calculate the total tax due from 1 January to the date which your most recent wages are paid. This means if your income is reduced, for example, when you left your job, you will have unused tax credits and may be due a tax refund. You should apply 4 weeks from the date you finished work. As you are
not working and have left the country, your application for a tax repayment must be made on tax repayment Form P50 which is available on the Revenue website, www.revenue. ie. You send the application to your district tax office together with Parts 2 and 3 of your P45. You should claim your refund within 4 years of the end of the year to which the claim relates and claims made after this time cannot be repaid. For further information on getting a tax refund, contact your local tax office or the Citizens Information Centre below. Know Your Rights has been compiled by Blackrock Citizens Information Service which provides a free and confidential service to the public. Tel:0761 076930 Address: Convent Road, Blackrock, Cork. Information is also available online at citizensinformation.ie and from the Citizens Information Phone Service, 0761 07 4000.

Penny Dinners; a Front Line Service Frank K Hanover
Home & G arden Things to do This Week (While there is still time to plant bulbs for spring flowering. It might not be any harm to consider wallflowers. They can add a lot of colour to your garden in late spring. As they flower the same time as tulips. a combination is worth considering. As usual we try to give you a few ideas on what might need doing in your garden this week. Not everything in this article may apply to your garden - but there might be something, if not this week maybe next week.)
Flower Garden Protect new evergreens and coniers with windbreak screens in exposed gardens. Mulch slightly tender shrubs such as romneya, solanum and ceratostigma wdh bark or leaves. Stratify rose hips in sand, and expose to frost all winter: rub seeds free in spring and sow in pots. Plant tulips in potting compost in drained pots, and keep dark and cool until shoots emerge. Move colchicums and autumn crocus while in full bloom. Mulch hellebores with compost and protect against slugs. In cold gardens tie up red hot poker leaves to protect crowns.
Kitchen Garden Clear away yellow leaves from brassicas such as Brussels sprouts, and firm in or earth up in exposed gardens. Remove the top nets from fruit cages in case of snow. If bad weather threatens, harvest quinces - best left hanging as store to continue ripening. Leave a shallow trench around stony ground when digging, and during spring cultivation. Dig alternate rows of maincrop potatoes if time presses , and throw loosened soil as protection
over those remaining. Sideshoots on trained fruit, shortened to five leaves in summer, need to be further pruned to two buds. Plant blackcurrants in well-manured ground, deeper than they grew before, and prune to 15cm (6in) high.
Lawns & Hedges Edge up lawns, tidy and assess any repairs necessary to the turf. Greenhouse Insulate the inside of the greenhouse with fleece or bubble polythene. Pot up weak dahlia tubers, and keep slightly moist and cool under glass until January.
Water Garden Check pond heaters are working efficiently.
In General Start checking fruit, vegetables and bulbs in store one routine basis, and remove any that are rotting. Empty and remove plant saucers from outdoor pots to avoid watetlogging roots. Sharpen and set secateurs, loppens and saws ready for winter pruning
At the start of Western Road once you've exited Washington Street you can turn right into Little Hanover Street and walk down it some 50 yds to find a lower sized building shorter than others and there you'll find the Penny Dinners. Inside you'll immediately see the entrance to the kitchen where volunteer, trustee and Committee member Caitriona and, on a Tuesday and Wednesday, Seán work at whatever is necessary -from washing dishes, organising or receiving produce, cooking to chatting with people about voluntary services- to feed increasing and diverse numbers of people whose personal debt and working or unemployed situation does not enable them to feed themselves or their family. The Penny Dinners motto is that “nobody must go hungry” and when I spoke with Caitriona and Seán it became obvious that it's one that's taken extremely seriously. Caitriona, “I came to Penny Dinners' three years ago. My father had been a Cook Sergeant at Collin's Barracks and he encouraged us to practically assist people in bad economic times. And we find today that it's not always addictions that bring people here, that it's always poverty. We see people who have bills and having paid them; no money for food.” Supported in a helpful way by the Saint Vincent De Paul as well as by various commercial food producers such as Knorr Soups, Darina Allen at Ballymaloe and in a smaller way by various city based retailers, Penny Dinners provides what must truly be considered a front line service to an increasing demographic whose situation is not well supported by the existing commercial and economic arrangement. Seán and Caitriona are typical of the volunteer aspect of Penny Dinners in that they recognised a need within themselves to help others. Sean, “I worked in one job all my life, for 40 years. I came out the other side and found I wanted to
put something back for the good life I'd had.” The logistics of how Penny Dinners works is an impressive feat of organization. The preparation for lunch happens from 8am every day of the year and the service utilises every possible inch of storage space both at Little Hanover Street and with the help of the SVP. In this way Penny Dinners discreetly projects the message that it's good to “keep coming”, that “we'll get through it together”, that mothers who deny themselves food in order to feed their children are encouraged to return again and again. In such manner you get closer to understanding the altruistic nature of the service. To project the work Penny Dinners does, a flurry of musical activity is set to begin at Red Hurley's Everyman Palace concert this Saturday night, November 3rd which will feature a song especially written by Penny Dinner's volunteer Malcolm Urquhart. On disc, Malcolm's 'A Penny for Your Thought' bolted-on hit features Drummer Niamh Ryan, Bass man Paul McCluskey, Guitarist Rob Harley and Malcolm on vocals beside a 100 strong choir formed of members from the Cork Airport Singers, the Garda Choir and the Fleischmann Choir. On Friday, November 9th there will be a 'Song for Penny Dinners' concert at the English Market featuring Ken O'Flynn alongside Amanda Neri from 6pm until 9pm. Penny Dinners will undoubtedly continue meanwhile to provide an increasingly necessary service to an increasing number of people from Cork and it welcomes donations at Little Hanover Street, whether of money or foodstuffs. The service provided by Penny Dinners is about social inclusion rather than exclusion. It's a necessary resource in a bad situation and it completely deserves recognition as well as the support of the wider society. It is, in all practical regards, a front line service now.

A Carousel is GREAT FUN Brainteazer Last Week’s Teazer Dave went with his uncle to the movies. They went up to the ticket kiosk and Dave had to pay, as usual. But that was not the worst of it. The ticket lady said, “You can go in, but not your friend.” Why wouldn’t she let Dave’s uncle in ? He was smartly dressed and had often been to the cinema before without any trouble.

However, even though the incident had been witnessed by everyone in the bar, he was unable to attest any of the men who had taken part in the Game. Why ?

Girls U12 Pool A Passage 0 Springfield/Ramblers 0 The visitors started this game very strongly but Passage never gave up and worked hard to get a grip on the game. The hardworking Emma Byrne was superb in defence. Winnie Parata’s good work in the midfield was helped by the constant running of Laura Finlay and Eimear Murphy on both wings. The outstanding Rachel Sheehan in the Passage goal constantly denied Springfield/ Ramblers forwards. Passage came more into the game in the second half and were unlucky not to break the deadlock when Aisling Corkery’s effort came back off the post. Both sides continued to play creative football throughout the second half and a share of the points was probably the best way to finish the game.Rachel O Sullivan also deserved a mention for her part in the game. U13 Div.3 Passage 2 Riverside 2 The Under 13’s 2nd league match of the season, against Riverside in Maulbaun, ended in a 2-2 draw. Both teams played their part in what was a very entertaining game for all the supporters, who were there in numbers encouraging their team. Plenty of chances were created at both ends, with Emmanuel Nwaedozie attacking Riverside throughout the game, and in goal Luke Tett put in an extremely brave performance to keep his team in the game. After going a goal down late in the first half, and again mid way though the second half, a brilliant finish from David Allen and a well deserved goal from Emmanual put the teams level. All players today deserve praise for the effort put in for a great game of football. Boys U14 Div.1 Passage 3 Blarney Utd 1 Passage started brightly with Bartek Wolny and Jamie Sullivan keeping the visitors busy but it was Ronan Quirke playing in midfield today, that popped up to give Passage an early lead. Passage continued to keep the pressure on and from a great through ball by Michael Fenton, Jamie Sullivan was put his side 2 up, a deserved 2nd goal for Passage. The home side were comfortable right through the 1st half playing cohesive well organised football but were back under pressure when Blarney scored to make it 2-1

at Half time. Blarney came into the game more in the 2nd half but the back four of Brian Murphy, Billy Parata, Cian Fleury and Adam Murphy were on their game today and were giving nothing away at the back. A superbly placed free kick from Cian Fleury late in the game found Michael O’Donovan wide on the left, and Micheal drilled a beautiful low drive that gave the keeper no chance. Once again Cian and Michael both showing why they deserved to be called up for the Cork U14 trials. Congratulations to the two lads on their call up and best of luck in the trials. And well done to the team today, a great scalp for Passage AFC. 3-1 final score. Girls U16 Div. 1 Passage 1 Midleton 1 The opening exchanges of this game were very evenly matched. Ellen and Ria O’Mahony were involved in all good Passage play. But as the half wore on Midleton began to dominate and were rewarded for their efforts going 1 up before half time. Passage were a different side in the second half, with goalkeeper Aoife O’Flynn goal impassable and Orla Higgins and Clionadh Fahy controlling midfield it was only a matter of time before Passage were going to get back on even terms. It came from a lot of good play and Ria O’Mahony made no mistake when she put through on goal. The game finished 1 - 1 and both teams deserve credit for an entertaining game.Well done to Aoife O’Flynn,Danielle Burke and Clionadh who are currently training with the emerging talent squad. Beamish Stout Senior Div. 2 Passage 3 Casement Celtic 2 From going 2 goals down after just 3 minutes the Senior team fought back to win this game 3 - 2. A John Kennedy goal on the half time whistle built the foundation for a second half comeback probably helped with an intensive half time team talk. Two second half goals from John Kennedy and Peter O Flynn gave the hosts all 3 points. The Seniors after a difficult start to the season are beginning to settle and improvement can be seen in every game. Well done to all concerned. The clubs 1 Day Halloween camp in conjunction with Cork City and Uchooz kicks off on Tuesday 30th.
College Corinthians Schoolboys Section: Under 12 Premier Division: Corinthians Boys 9 Innishvilla 1 Corinthians Boys with a good performance recorded their sixth successive league victory of the season with a 9 – 1 win over Innishvilla today. In a controlled display, Corinthians Boys failed initially to take advantage of their dominance in possession and convert the chances created. After 15 minutes, Adam Idah opened the scoring with a very good strike. Corinthians Boys continued to press, but failed to get a second and after 22 minutes Innishvilla caught them on the break to score an equaliser. Corinthians Boys responded very well to score two goals before half time by Jeff Holden and Liam Edwards, to give a half time score of 3 – 1. In the Second Half, Corinthians Boys continued to dominate, playing good football, and scored six more goals, three from Adam Idah, one each from Fionn Molloy and David Fox and an own goal. This was another good performance with all players making a valuable contribution; Richard Lombard in control of goal, the defenders Mark Hill, Oisin O’Keeffe, David Murphy, Scott Phillpott and Leo Barron commanding and in control, the midfielders Fionn Molloy, Joseph Harte, David Fox, Daniel Harte, Conor Murphy and Liam Edwards dominating their area and strikers, Adam Idah and Jeff Holden were a constant threat. Division 1: Leeds 1 Corinthian Boys A 3 Corinthians continued their recent good run with a comfortable 3-1 away win against Leeds. Half way through the first half, man of the match Ben Lucey opened the scoring when he pounced on a deflected shot and headed the ball over the advancing goalkeeper. Leeds equalised early in the second half with a shot from the edge of the area. Corinthians responded well and created some good scoring opportunities before regaining the lead when Ben Lucey got his second goal after a superb run down the left wing by David Cotter. The result was put beyond doubt when a Daniel Kelleher through ball set up Andrew Greany to score from close range. David Cotter hit the bar after another great run through the middle and Andrew Greany was denied a second goal by a fantastic save by the Leeds keeper after Ruairi Moriarty had picked him out with a pinpoint pass. A solid performance by the back four ensured that Leeds had no clear cut chances. Under 13: Division 1: Cotinhian Boys A 2 Rockmount 2 Two late goals earned Rockmount a deserved share of the spoils in this exciting Division One encounter. Corinthians had worked very hard throughout the contest and defending well and scoring twice with two fine breakaway goals.but despite the best efforts of goalkeeper Odhran Murphy, Kevin Bohane, Mark Fitzgibbon, Sean Henry Squires and Dylan Fenton they could not hold on. And Rockmount snatched two goals in the final five minutes. Under 14: Premier Division: Rockmount 0 Corinthian Boys 4 Corinthians turned in a four star performance to continue unbeaten in the league against a hard working Rockmount side. Despite some injuries in the Corinthians squad the quality of football remained first class such is the strength and depth in the Team. Corinthians opened the game brightly with Conor Shalloe and Chis Healy dominating
the midfield. Both putting slide rule passes behind the Rockmount back four for wide players Eoin Davis and Dylan Ward to fire some great crosses into the danger area. Eoin Murphy who produced a man of the match performance was deserving of his score when he was brought down in the box and converted the resulting penalty after just 8 minutes. The Rockmount defence were under constant pressure and it was from an Eoin Murphy corner kick on the 17minute that Ciaran Couch struck his first of the season to put Corinthians two up at the break. Stephen Fox playing at left back linked well with Dylan Ward throughout and created several good attacking moves. The second half saw Corinthians continue to dominate the possession and pushed further ahead when from another Eoin Murphy corner kick Dylan Ward found the net. James O’Donovan, Ciaran Couch, Alex Chandler and Stephen Fox were comfortable at the back and were neat and tidy with their distribution of the ball. Eoin Davis as usual played with great desire and affect despite being closely marked by the Rockmount defence. Goalkeeper Chistian Begley when called upon reacted quickly and confidently to snuff out any Rockmount threat in the box and distributed the ball well. Patrick O’Callaghan who had been ploughing a lonely furrow up front and who worked hard all day got his reward on the 65minute when that man again Eoin Murphy beating the right full squared the ball for O’Callaghan to fire it into the Rockmount net. There were also good performances from Joe Duggan, Oshin Lucas, and David O’Sullivan. Under 15: Premier Division: Corinthian Boys 2 Mayfield Utd. 2 We went ahead after 14 minutes when Mark Buckley hit a shot from inside the box. It remained 1-0 at half time, Mayfield drew level 9 minutes into the second half, on 25 minutes we were awarded a penalty which Colin O Brien converted. With 10 minutes remaining Mayfield made it 2-2. Team: Stephen Jermyn, Sean Desmond (Jack Murray HT), Bryan Cotter, Alex O Driscoll, Dean Swords,, Mark O Leary (David Lynch 65 mins), Chris Og Jones, David Dalton (Harry Shanahan HT) Ross Welch, Colin O Brien, Mark Buckley (David O Regan 70 mins) Division 2: Corinthian Boys A 3 Greenwood 3 Corinthians were always trying to get a grip of this game against fellow strugglers Greenwood and had to come from behind on three occasions. Greenwood took the lead in the 12 minute before Corinthians began to settle into the match. Aaron Purcell equalises in the 35th min with a fine individual goal only for Corinthians to concede straight from the restart to go 2-1 down at half time. Immediately at the start of the second half Aaron Purcell again levelled which should have inspired Corinthians to victory only for Greenwood to go ahead again later on.It was Purcell who once again came to Cors rescue when he won a penalty with 5 mins remaining which he duelly converted for his hat trick. Corinthians could have taken all three points at the end only for Cian Barry’s volley to be cleard off the line by the last Greenwood defender. Cors will be happy to take a point having played better in previous matches and lost. Man of the match Aaron Purcell, Cathal Kelleher and David Smith played well for Cors.Schoolboys Section
Douglas Hall FC Umbro U-12 Div. One: Douglas Hall 1; Mayfield Utd. 1 In a fiercely contested opening half, neither side could find a way past both teams’ well organized defences. The deadlock was broken midway through the second-half when Hall’s Eamonn Kiely drove a superb free-kick to the back of the net. The visitors gained a just equalizer with four minutes remaining following a sweeping six-man move. Evan Donlon & Andrew Cotter impressed for the hosts. Umbro U-14 First Division: Douglas Hall 1; Ringmahon Rngs. 0 In a close fought encounter at Moneygourney Ryan Hunter’s solitary strike sealed the points for the Hall whose best performers included David Harrington, Cathal Kennedy & Aaron Buckley. Umbro U-15 Div. Two :Douglas Hall 2; Carrigaline Hibernians 0 In a fine team performance Aaron Buckley & Mark Hightmore netted for the winners whose best on the day included Gavin McSweeney, Shane Murphy & Darragh Kelly. Umbro U-15 Div. Three: Douglas Hall A 2; Avondale Utd. A 1 The Hall kept their unbeaten home run intact with a hard fought win over a well organized Avondale eleven at Moneygourney. Padraig Hickey opened the scoring against the run of play in the first-half before the visitors got back on level terms early in the secondhalf. When it looked as if the points would be shared Eoghan Nyhan’s run at the opposition’s produced a cross from which Hickey slotted in the winner. Aaron Sheehan was outstanding at the back for the home team. Umbro U-16 Division One: St Mary’s 0 ; Douglas Hall 3 Hall played some quality football as Cathal Sheehan, Adam Geaney and Diermuid O’Mahoney each scored in the first half to give the away side a commanding lead at half- time. The hosts tried hard but could find no way past a very determined Hall defence with Sean Wilson & Conor O’Regan in top form. In a good squad display Eoghan O’Leary and Aidan Cronin gave excellent performances. Gussie Welsh U-17 League Cup Quarter-Final: Avondale Utd. 0; Douglas Hall 0 aet. ( Avondale won 4-2 on pens. ) The Hall endured an agonizing exit after having dominated the tie from start to finish. The nearest the visitors came to scoring came in the 69th minute when Paul Lehane rounded the keeper to score only to have the goal disallowed after the referee adjudged the ball had previously went over the end line. Daly Industrial Supplies U-17 Premier : Douglas Hall 4; Avondale Utd. 4 The Hall failed to capitalize on a two-goal lead going into injury time after goals from Paul Lehane, David O’Connor, Niall Fitzgerald & Mark O’Riordan had given the home team a commanding lead in the ninety minutes. Daly Industrial Supplies U-17 Premier: Douglas Hall 2; Carrigaline Utd. 3 The Hall led two-nil with ten minutes remaining through Anto Kidney & Dylan Stanton but conceded three to their local derby rivals in a frantic finish. Daly Industrial Supplies U-17 Div. 1A: Douglas Hall A 3; Riverstown 4 Following a superb performance by back in form Hall, Kevin Russell, Mark Power
by Finbarr Buckley
& Ross O’Donoghue registered the host’s goals in a contest in which the Hall can count themselves unlucky not to get a result. Daly Industrial Supplies Youths Lge. 1A: Avondale Utd. 3; Douglas Hall 3 United played their home match at Hall’s Kennedy Pk. and despite being behind on three occasions managed to secure a draw with literally the last kick of the game. Buster Holland opened the scoring with his third of the campaign in the 17th minute before Paul Lehane kept up his incredible record of scoring in every match with his first from a free-kick approaching half-time to make it 2-1. The visitors levelled once again only for Lehane to fire in a stunning second with time almost up. Credit must go to Michael O’Rourke & his Avondale charges who somehow saved a point from a goalmouth melee for the Blackrock club. Umbro FAI Youth Cup – First Division: Blarney Utd. 2; Douglas Hall 2 aet. ( Hall won 5-4 on pens) Craig Madden had the Hall ahead twice in this gripping cup tie at O’Shea Pk., before the same player netted the decisive fifth penalty to knock out premier opposition at the first attempt. In a fine team performance, keeper Ryan Kennedy, defender Darragh O’Leary along with striker Madden stood out for the winners. Umbro FAI Intermediate Cup – Second Round: Douglas Hall 2; Kinsale 1 Beamish Stout Second Division leaders Kinsale led one-nil at the interval before a Simon McGarry header & a Mark Murphy penalty helped the Hall negotiate a safe passage through to the open round of the competition.
• Eric Compagno of Douglas Hall who starred in his team s penalty shoot out win over Blarney Utd in the FAI Youths Cup last weekend

Our current group have just completed their course and received their well-earned certificates. Well done again each and every one! We look forward to our next course commencing. We are interested in
Community Involvement and help out with the great work of Midleton Tidy Towns. This Tuesday the club is going to the Driving Range to practice our golf swing! It should be good fun, we do have a few golf novices in the club but our experienced players will be on hand to offer some tips, if needed.
