SunBears Weekend 2018

Fur, Fun & Sun November 15th-18th, 2018

Fur, Fun & Sun

Welcome to SunBears Weekend 2018 On behalf of Bears San Diego, and the SunBears Weekend Steering Committee, we are pleased to welcome you to our weekend. SunBears Weekend grew out of an idea of planning an event where we could all get together and get to know each other. The success of that first event opened the door to future gatherings. The concept has remained the same: a weekend full of activities that are fun and exciting, a price tag that makes it worthwhile, and an opportunity to make new friends and visit with old ones. The weekend is also our major fund raising event. This year’s beneficiary is Special Delivery San Diego. We hope you enjoy this weekend, get to know some of the wonderful people participating in our event, and take away fond memories.

About Bears San Diego

Bears San Diego is a club for bears and bear fanciers. We are based in San Diego, California but we have members throughout the United States and even a few from overseas. Bears San Diego was established in San Diego in October 1994 when a need was recognized for a group who did not fit in with the main stream gays.

In 2003 Bears San Diego took the next step and began our journey to become a Non-Profit 501(c)(3) charitable organization. We finalized the process in the summer of 2006 when Bears San Diego got it’s final approval from the Internal Revenue Service to do business as a Non-Profit Organization. Bears San Diego’s purpose is to bring together men of common interest on a social basis, providing events at a local bar, den night at member’s homes, outings to movies, restaurants, the zoo and parties with other Bear Clubs. These gatherings give participants the opportunity to actually meet other bears and admirers to create new friendships. Contact Info: Bears San Diego, PO Box 3151, San Diego CA 92163

SunBears Weekend 2018

Jerry Colinard Memorial Community Service Award Jerry Colinard was our first Mr. Bear San Diego in 1999. The contest was intended as a fun event at SunBears Weekend. Jerry took on the title of Mr. Bear San Diego as a way of giving back to the community. He organized events and fundraisers and helped raised thousands for charities, often putting up his own money in the process. Jerry was a long time AIDS survivor and was an advocate for himself and others living with HIV/AIDS. On July 4, 2009, Jerry lost his battle and passed away. Jerry will be sorely missed and will remain in our hearts forever. At BearQuake 2009, we established a Community Service Award to honor his accomplishments and recognize those in the LGBTQ community at large that go above and beyond to give back to our brothers and sisters in need. Tamanava Eden-McLintock Ms. Goldilocks 2018 Ms. San Diego Leather, 2017

Tammy is a San Diego native and is a married, bisexual, polyamorous mother of one. She comes from a family with a mixed heritage and a motto that “In service to others, there is service to self.” As a Preschool Teacher turned Artist, Wedding Minister, Seamstress and “Wonder Woman in Training,” she holds a variety of degrees and certificates in Education, Nutrition and Theology. When she’s not out doing community service, she enjoys cooking, reading, and spending quality time with family and friends Tammy is a also a member of multiple communities including the LGBT, Leather and Pagan communities. As a result, Tammy has been blessed to meet, interact and grow with a diverse mix of people. Her hashtag #communitybeginswithme, reflects her spirit of problem solving and her goal to always find ways to raise others up. Tammy’s efforts have led her to take on many leadership roles in these communities, from presenting BDSM workshops at UCSD to holding the titles of ICSD Ms. Cinco de Mayo 2016, Ms. San Diego Leather, 2017 and her current title, Ms. Goldilocks San Diego 2018. Tammy has also been long involved with a number of clubs and organizations including Bears San Diego, the Imperial Court de San Diego, Girl Scouts, Club X, and the Hardpink Sisterhood. She is even a founding and former board member of the San Diego Girls of Leather and a former Co-Producer of the Leather Realm. These memberships have helped her provide community service, education, activism and fundraising for a number of scholarships, programs and people in need. You wouldn’t know it by her acts of service and full calendar, but Tammy is really a very shy, quiet observer who in the end wants to help others just because it feels good to give and to see the lives of others improve.

Sister Nora Torious 13

San Diego Sisters of Perpetual Indulgence

Sister Nora Torious 13 made the official entry into the San Diego Sisters of Perpetual Indulgence, in May of 2005, as Guard Peter Beater. In March of 2006 Sister Nora Torious 13 made the first steps to Sisterhood as Postulate Dementia. Sister was also the first non‑founding member to ascend through the full Sister path. Many people may not understand that Sisterhood must be earned in a process that can take more than a year and a half. With each step in fabulous high heels. Sister achieved the first veil and a new name as Novice Sister Nora Torious in July of 2006. The final test as a Sister requires a Novice Sister to produce a community project or function to support the workings of the Sisters. On December 1st 2007, “World AIDS Day 80’s Dance Party,” a charity event to support the Hillcrest Youth Center, took place. The project was later awarded Best Small Event of 2006 at the San Diego Leather Community Awards. In February of 2007 the final veil or “Black Veil” was awarded, making Sister Nora Torious 13 a lifelong full member of the Sisters of Perpetual Indulgence world wide. Sister has served as Mistress of Novices, Abbess and is currently the Board Chair. Sister Nora Torious 13 is honored to be asked to judge this year’s Mr. Bear San Diego contest, and is very pleased at the connections made by the work of the Sisters to bring all facets of our community together.
