GRANT McCANN GOOD EVENING AND WELCOME BACK TO THE KEEPMOAT STADIUM. WE HAVE HAD A GOOD START TO THE SEASON AND ARE LOOKING TO BUILD ON THAT WITH A RUN OF HOME GAMES. We want to bounce back from Saturday’s game at Burton Albion, but I have no doubt we will. The players were quiet in the changing room after the game because they felt they could go there and win. We should not let one result detract too much from our good start to the season, having won the three previous games. The application, focus and talent has been there - now the challenge to the players and staff is to bounce back, to come out and respond with some good performances in these next three games which are all here at home.
the effort and cost involved, and wants to put on a good performance to reward that and to get you up off your seats in anticipation. The games are coming thick and fast now, we are a hard-working team and will do everything we can to come through them in a strong position. The group have been outstanding since I came in, and there is still so much more to come from them. Enjoy the game.
As supporters you have a role to play in this as well, the backing at Burton was fantastic with around 1,000 fans making the trip down and getting behind us throughout the match - as you have throughout this start to the season. Everyone connected with the club appreciates

"THE PROFESSIONALISM AND DETERMINATION OF THE PLAYERS AND COACHING STAFF IS SECOND TO NONE, AND THERE IS A REAL BELIEF"
GAVIN BALDWIN WELCOME BACK TO THE KEEPMOAT STADIUM AS WE START A BUSY PERIOD OF HOME GAMES - AND WE HOPE TO GIVE YOU PLENTY TO SHOUT ABOUT IN THE NEXT WEEK AND A BIT WITH THREE MATCHES HERE. We can feel proud of the start to the season we have made, with three wins from our opening four games, and these next fixtures provide a real opportunity to build on that. The professionalism and determination of the players and coaching staff is second to none, and there is a real belief that we can get a good collection of points and progress in the Carabao Cup - so long as we keep doing the things we have done so well during pre-season and the opening games.
you have got behind the players - that unity could really make a difference as we have a busy run of games in midweek and Saturdays coming up.
It was pleasing to see so many people in the fans park outside the Belle Vue Bar before our last home game. This initiative, with music, a question and answer session with a former player, and wider food options is something we are looking to run a number of times over the course of the campaign. It will be back on Saturday as part of our family fun day prior to the game against Portsmouth.
There is also a first tonight, with the match available for live streaming on our website to a domestic audience through iFollow Rovers. We want as many people at the game as possible, but this allows those who cannot attend even more options to follow the action.
There is still time to get Season Memberships or, if you cannot commit to every game, match packages and Bronze E-Memberships which offer the best value to watch us this season. We are committed to keeping football as affordable as possible.
Enjoy the game.
The backing of supporters this season has been fantastic - going all the way back to the opening friendly of the summer, in fact - and I’d like to take a moment to thank you for that. We had around 1,000 fans at the Pirelli Stadium on Saturday and during every match

K I L L A M S K L I W MALLIK WILKS HAS BECOME A FIRM FANS FAVOURITE SINCE SIGNING FOR ROVERS ON LOAN FROM LEEDS UNITED MIDWAY THROUGH JULY. The 19-year-old has already scored three goals in all competitions this season, and his charismatic displays have seen him voted as fans’ man of the match three times so far in the 2018/19 campaign. “It’s been really good and I’ve settled in well, I feel like I’m getting on with all the lads and the gaffer has been great with me,” he says. “It’s been easy to get used to the surroundings because everybody is close in the group, it all clicks with the boys. “There is a wide variety of different players within the forward line, we’ve got pace and creativity as well as having John’s finishing ability. “John’s is a great goal-scorer and he’s ruthless in front of goal, I’m learning from him and understanding how important it is to take your chances when they come along in games.”

Wilks has appeared on the left and right of a front three in Grant McCann’s 4-3-3 formation, which has allowed him to create and get on the end of chances.
His focus is now to keep improving as a player on and off the field in a league he has never played in before, but has taken to like a duck to water.
He is keen to excite the fans that pay to watch him, and in turn repay the faith shown in him by McCann and the rest of the Rovers coaching staff.
“I did well at Accrington and managed to score a few goals there so it was always in my head that I wanted to make a step up to this level,” he says.
“It was a great feeling scoring on my debut, I created space for myself and knew where I was in the box so it was good to hit the back of the net,” he says.
“I would like to think I’ve added something different to the side in the first few games, I’m really enjoying my football.
“The fans pay their money and work hard to be able to come to watch us, so I want to be someone who gets them off their seats and be value for money.
“The gaffer came to watch me last season whilst I was at Accrington and he was at Peterborough, so I knew he had been after me for a while, he is a good manager and I know he will get the best out of me.
“There is a lot of movement in the front three and nobody really sticks to one position, that’s what causes so many problems for other teams. “If someone drops out wide then I will move into the middle and different things like that, flexibility can really hurt defenders. “I grew up wanting to run at players and get in behind, that is what the fans want to see so I really enjoy putting a show on.” Wilks enjoyed a successful loan spell with eventual Sky Bet League Two champions Accrington Stanley last season.

"WE’VE SET OURSELVES A GREAT PLATFORM WITH A COUPLE OF WINS ON THE BOUNCE"
“I see Doncaster getting promotion to the Championship and I want to play a part in that, I won the league with Accrington last season and I want to keep progressing.” His debut strike at Southend United on the opening day of the season was backed up by a similar strike on his first appearance at the Keepmoat Stadium against Wycombe Wanderers. “I know when I run at a defender I can get past them or look to draw a foul, they drop back and allow you to get closer to the goal,” says Wilks. “I like to get under people’s skin on the pitch and make them feel under pressure, I know I can get the better of them with my skills. “I was excited before the game and showing more of them what I can do, I had some tricks and managed to score again. “We’ve set ourselves a great platform with a couple of wins on the bounce so it’s about continuing that and putting a run together. The gaffer wants us to play with a high intensity, there is no let up from us and we want to keep improving as much as we can.”
"I GREW UP WANTING TO RUN AT PLAYERS AND GET IN BEHIND, THAT IS WHAT THE FANS WANT TO SEE SO I REALLY ENJOY PUTTING A SHOW ON" The front-man endeared himself to the Rovers fans even further with a trademark finish at local rivals Scunthorpe United in the Carabao Cup first round last week. “We want to keep winning, keep the momentum going and take that into each game, we’re on a good run at the moment and we don’t want that to end, we’ve played some great football and there’s no reason why that should stop,” he adds. “It was a good game and it’s always good to win the local derby, we wanted to win and we’ve come here and done just that so it’s all good, we stuck to what the gaffer wanted us to do, he told us not to get into the derby and just play our football and that’s what we did. “There’s nothing better than when you’re starting games and then you’re scoring and winning them too, when you’re performing well you have to fight to stay in the team, there’s a lot more pressure on us to stay in the side, but long may it continue. “I love playing in derby games, it’s even better when you win one because you get the fans going and it’s great to play in, I might be a player that will frustrate the opposition fans but I love them all. “I’ve had a lot of comments from the Rovers fans over social media which have been nice, I’ll like them or I’ll reply back to them sometimes, I’m not going to block that out, I love having a laugh with them and I’m really enjoying it here.”

FOUR T SHREWSBURY TOWN
JOEL COLEMAN TOP STOPPER
01
The young goalkeeper has joined the Shrews for the season, making a temporary switch from Premier League side Huddersfield Town. Coleman began his career with Oldham Athletic, making 45 first-team appearances for the Latics between 2013 and 2016, following his move up from the academy at Boundary Park. After leaving Oldham, Coleman made the short trip over the Pennines to sign for Huddersfield Town, then of the Championship, playing in the first leg of the play-off semi final victory over Sheffield Wednesday in 2017. Coleman signed a new two-year deal at the John Smith’s Stadium this summer, immediately being sent to Shrewsbury on loan.
ALEX GILLIEAD MIDFIELD MAESTRO
18
The winger signed a two-year deal with the Shrews this summer following his departure from Newcastle United. Gilliead spent six years with the Magpies, however he didn’t make an appearance for the club, instead spending time out on loan with Carlisle United, Luton Town and Bradford City, including a League One play-off final defeat with the Bantams in 2017. Gilliead has also made appearances for various England youth teams between 2011 and 2016, earning 19 caps with all four England age groups he played for from under-16 level to under-20 level.

OMAR BECKLES DEFENSIVE ROCK
The central defender is in his second season with the Shrews, following his switch from Accrington Stanley in 2017. Beckles started out his career within the non-league pyramid, with spells at Boreham Wood, Kettering Town and Billericay Town between 2011 and 2013. Beckles made his break through into the EFL with Accrington, following an impressive period with National League side Aldershot Town, going on to make 43 league appearances, earning himself a move to the league above with the Shrews. His first year in Shropshire saw him become a key figure in the Shrews run to the League One play-off final last season.
LENELL JOHN-LEWIS DEADLY STRIKER
13
Affectionately known by fans for having a name resembling a famous high street shop, John-Lewis is in his second season at Montgomery Waters Meadow. After a spell with Grantham Town in non-league, John-Lewis signed for Lincoln City, spending four years at Sincil Bank before a move to Bury, where he would win promotion from League Two with the Shakers. His most successful spell as a forward would come with Grimsby Town between 2013 and 2015, scoring 30 goals in all competitions for the Mariners. After time with Newport County, John-Lewis signed for the Shrews in May 2017, scoring on his debut against Northampton Town in a 1-0 win over the Cobblers.

A PREMIER LEAGUE WINNER IS THE FIRST CONNECTION BETWEEN THESE TWO SIDES, WITH MARK ATKINS HAVING SPELLS AS A PLAYER AND A MANAGER WITH BOTH ROVERS AND THE SHREWS. Doncaster-born Atkins started his career with Scunthorpe United, before joining Blackburn Rovers in 1988, becoming a key figure in their rise from the old Second Division to becoming Premier League champions in 1995, alongside the likes of Alan Shearer and Chris Sutton. A move to Wolverhampton Wanderers later on in 1995 saw Atkins spend four years at Molineux, however he was unable to emulate his Blackburn success, with a run to the Division One play-offs ultimately failing at the semi-final stage. Atkins made a move back to Yorkshire in 1999, with a brief spell at York City, before moving to Belle Vue later that year. During his two years with Rovers, Atkins took caretaker charge alongside Dave Penney, who would go on to become the permanent manager of the club, spending the final five games of the 1999-2000 Conference season at the helm, following the departure of Ian Snodin. Atkins would sign for the Shrews in 2001, helping them to reach the fourth round of the FA Cup, as well as the area final of the Football League Trophy in 2003. However, the season would end badly for Atkins and the Shrews, as they were relegated to the Conference at the end of the campaign, with Rovers ironically being one of the two teams to take their place. Atkins took caretaker charge of the Shrews in the last game of that season, before retiring from football a year later after a season with non-league Harrogate Town. A former Rovers favourite is the second connection, as Colin Cramb enjoyed spells with both clubs during his playing days. Cramb is famous for being the only player to have played in all four of the top divisions in both England and Scotland, starting out with Hamilton Academical before making a move to Southampton in 1993. Cramb moved back across the border to Falkirk the following year, then moving on to Hearts in 1995, however he struggled to break through into the side, and instead

signed for Rovers later on that year. He scored 25 goals in 62 league games during his time at Belle Vue, earning himself a sixfigure transfer to Bristol City in 1997, helping the Robins to win promotion to what is now the Championship in his first season. Time with Crewe Alexandra and Dutch Eredivisie side Fortuna Sittard followed, before his move to Shrewsbury in 2003, signing for the Shrews upon their drop down into the Conference, spending one season at Gay Meadow, scoring 12 league goals on the way to a play-off victory that season, with Shrewsbury following in Rovers’ footsteps by winning promotion at Stoke’s Brittania Stadium, this time on penalties, with a 3-0 shoot-out win over Aldershot Town. The following five years would see Cramb go on to play for five different clubs in both England and Scotland, with spells at Grimsby Town, Stenhousemuir and Stirling Albion, as well as a second stint with Hamilton, as Cramb enjoyed a respectable goals-to-game ratio in the Scottish Third Division as he saw out his career. MEMORABLE MATCH SHREWSBURY TOWN
FEBRUARY 20 2018
Rovers fought back from two goals down to snatch a point from highflying Shrewsbury Town back in February 2018. Rovers struggled early on, losing Andy Butler to injury just 10 minutes in, and after Carlton Morris and Jon Nolan saw great chances to open the scoring missed, it wouldn’t be long before the Shrews took the lead. Shaun Whalley’s corner was met by Alex Rodman who could only see his shot stopped on the line, however only into the path of Mat Sadler, with the defender smashing into the top corner from six yards out to put the Shrews in front. The Shrews came forward again, with Rodman again being kept out by Ian Lawlor with a shot from distance, with Sadler firing just over the bar from the resulting corner. After the break it would be more of the same from the Shrews, with Toto Nsiala seeing a header from another corner superbly saved by Lawlor, but Shrewsbury would eventually double their lead not long after, with Morris making amends for his earlier miss. Another Shrews corner caused havoc in the Rovers box, with Nsiala heading the ball down for Morris to slam home past Lawlor to extend the hosts
advantage, seemingly putting the game beyond Rovers with 35 minutes still left to play. It would be an unlikely source from the bench that would see a turn in Rovers fortunes however, with a 20-minute cameo from Issam Ben Khemis, in just his second league game for the club, changing the game for the visitors. Rovers first goal back would come through yet another corner in the game, with James Coppinger’s delivery into the box being punched up into the air by Dean Henderson, and up into the air for Mathieu Baudry to head home, giving Rovers a lifeline.
Ben Khemis would find Rovers’ equalising goal 15 minutes from time, receiving the ball after a poor clearance from a ball into the area, curling back towards goal, causing Henderson to back track too far over his line, with the assistant referee on the far side giving the goal and earning Rovers a point. Rovers would see out the game with 10 men however after using all three subs, with Ben Khemis making his way off the pitch following an injury, but it would be a well-fought point Rovers would earn on the road against the promotionchasing Shrews.
WHAT HAPPENED NEXT? Rovers next game would see them pick up another point on the road, this time in dramatic circumstances at local rivals, Scunthorpe United. Tom Hopper scored early on to give the Iron the lead at Glanford Park, before Alfie Beestin headed home in the 96th minute to salvage a draw. It wouldn’t be until mid-February when Rovers would next win a game, with Alex Kiwomya’s opener and Tom Anderson’s double giving them a 3-0 victory over Fleetwood Town. Rovers finished the season in 15th place, despite wins against Blackpool, Bradford City and Milton Keynes late on in the campaign, but Rovers will be hoping for a strong second season back in Sky Bet League One. Shrewsbury would go on to win their next two games, with away victories at Portsmouth and Bristol Rovers seeing them sit in the top two come February, where they would remain until Good Friday. The Shrews would close out the season in third position, meeting Charlton Athletic in the play-off semi-final, defeating the Addicks 2-0 on aggregate, before going on to miss out on promotion to the Championship, losing 2-1 to Rotherham United after extra time at Wembley Stadium.

THE
NUMBERS GAME IN OLD-SCHOOL FOOTBALL THE NUMBER TWO SHIRT WAS ALWAYS WORN BY THE RIGHT FULL-BACK AND IT IS FAIR TO SAY THAT SINCE 2002-03 ROVERS HAVE GENERALLY FOLLOWED THAT CONVENTION. ALL THE WEARERS OF THE NUMBER TWO HAVE PLAYED AT RIGHT BACK FOR AT LEAST PART OF THEIR ROVERS CAREER. The record transfer fee paid to Sheffieldbased non-League side Stocksbridge Park Steels was not for their most famous alumnus, Jamie Vardy, but was the £12,000 that Doncaster Rovers paid them in 1999 to secure the services of SIMON MARPLES. An attacking right-back with a good turn of speed, Marples was the regular wearer of the No. 2 shirt so it came as no surprise when he was allocated it as a squad number at the start of the 2002-03 season. Marples was capped by England at C-international level and was a member of the team that earned promotion back to the Football League at the end of 2002-03but thereafter he was hampered by injuries, although he played enough games to win a Division Three Champions medal in 2003-04. He moved on to Chester City at the end of the 2005-06 season. His replacement in the Number Two shirt was probably Rovers’ best right-back of recent times. JAMES O’CONNOR, signed from AFC Bournemouth in the summer of 2006 was an astute defender with the ability to get forward and provide dangerous crosses. He and Gareth Roberts, who arrived at the same time, provided an ideal full-back pairing. O’Connor was a member of the team which won the Johnstone’s Paint Trophy in April 2007 and then helped Rovers secure promotion to the Championship in 2007-08. Although right-back was undoubtedly his best position, sometimes he was required to play in the centre of defence and this reduced his effectiveness to a degree. Nevertheless, by the time he moved on to Derby County in 2012 he had made 242 senior appearances for Rovers, putting him in 22nd place on the all-time appearance chart. O’Connor’s replacement at right-back and in the Number Two shirt was former Scotland Under-21 international PAUL QUINN, recruited from Cardiff City in the summer of 2012. He went on to play a vital
role in Rovers’ surprise League One Title season, forming a resolute back-line with Rob Jones, Jamie McCombe and Tommy Spurr. In the game at Brentford in April 2013, which Rovers won 1-0 to seal the championship, it was Quinn’s clearance following Brentford’smissed penalty that found Billy Paynter in space. His pass was tapped in by James Coppinger to secure the title with virtually the last kick of the game. In the 2013-14 season Quinn was often required to play at centre-back following the serious injury suffered by Jones and he often performed the role with distinction. However, Rovers were relegated on the final day of the season and Quinn left the club in August 2014, returning to Scotland with Ross County. Although Quinn was allocated the Number Two shirt for 2014-15 in practice it remained vacant until the following season when it was allocated to young defender MITCHELL LUND (2015-16). During that season Rovers signed the adaptable CRAIG ALCOCK from Sheffield United and at the start of the 2016-17 season he took over as the new Number Two. Rather like Quinn, Alcock was able to play at right back or centre back, but his Rovers career was disrupted by injuries and he was released at the end of last season. NIALL MASON, who wore No. 8 last season, will take over the No. 2 shirt this time around. An ideal fit for someone who plays right-back with an occasional outing in the centre of defence. JOHN COYLE

"THIS PART OF OUR WORK SUPPORTS THE PLAYERS IN TERMS OF DEVELOPING SKILLS AND QUALITIES SUCH AS CONCENTRATION, EMOTIONAL CONTROL, COMMUNICATION AND RESILIENCE"
KIERAN SCARFF LED BY OUR HEAD OF COACHING, TONY COOK, WE HAVE UNDERTAKEN A DETAILED REVIEW OF OUR COACHING PROGRAMME AT ACADEMY LEVEL AND, AS A RESULT, TONY HAS WORKED WITH ALL ACADEMY STAFF TO PRODUCE A VERY DETAILED AND THOROUGH PROGRAMME THAT WILL SUPPORT THE DEVELOPMENT OF OUR PLAYERS FROM A MULTIDISCIPLINARY PERSPECTIVE. The coaching programme has a long term view of player development and is designed to ensure the players have the ability to learn and develop within their own individual programmes. In addition to the technical and tactical work each player has their own individual learning plan. These plans are detailed to support the development of the individual player as they aspire to progress in line with our player profiles. There has also been a huge input from our academy psychologist, Dr Tom Mitchell. Tom has developed a detailed structure that is becoming a key part of our programme. This part of our work supports the players in terms of developing skills and qualities such as concentration, emotional control, communication and resilience.
in the coming week focusing on personal finance, emotional health and overcoming challenges. Our new youth team players will also develop their personal skills by completing the NCS programme with our colleagues at the Club Doncaster Sports College. The level of detail within the life-skills programme is something we want to replicate in an age-specific way through all of our age groups. The development of these skills and qualities is key to underpinning the success that all our young players are striving to achieve. Good luck to the gaffer, the staff and the players.
We are also further developing our life-skills programme. Our youth team players have workshops

Hello everyone! Welcome to our game against Shrewsbury Town and thank you to our visitors for making the journey this evening. We have had a great start to the season and I have been so excited. I have not commented on our family fun day which took place at the end of last month, but a big thank you to everyone that attended. I hope you all enjoyed it as much as me. Keep making plenty of noise and remember we are back again on Saturday (against Portsmouth).
Enjoy the game! Donny Dog DONCASTERROVERSFC.CO.UK

DONCASTER ROVERS
COMMERCIAL GOOD EVENING AND WELCOME TO THE KEEPMOAT STADIUM WHERE DONCASTER ROVERS EMBARK ON THE SECOND HOME FIXTURE OF THE 18-19 SEASON VS SHREWSBURY TOWN. The season is off to a positive start with many well-deserved reasons to celebrate following the 3-0 win against Wycombe Wanderers in the first home game of the season last week preparing us nicely for this evening’s match when we welcome Shrewsbury Town and newly appointed Manager John Askey to the stadium. After another successful game with a 2-1 win for Grant McCann and the squad vs Scunthorpe United last Tuesday evening, this hopefully sets a precedent for tonight’s fixture.
MATCH SPONSOR VENATU CHOSE MALLIK WILKS AS THEIR MAN OF THE MATCH VS WYCOMBE WANDERERS
We are joined by today’s match sponsor, Daniel Calow and friends. We have a long association with Daniel, through his father Darren Calow, owner of DC Training and Development Services. Family and friends of Daniel are here today celebrating his 11th birthday, and we look forward to spending the evening with them all. If you are associated with a local business and would like to get involved with Doncaster Rovers and Club Doncaster, there is a vast range of exciting possibilities for you to raise the profile of your business through a number of match sponsorship and partnership opportunities.

SAFETY Three points is not the only priority today. Making sure everyone goes home safe is the most important result. Over recent months we have been working closely with the police and the EFL to review security at the Keepmoat Stadium. Now we are asking you to do your bit. It is vital that everyone - players, staff and supporters - remains vigilant and reports any concerns to stewards or police. Attacks might be rare, and the chance of you being caught up in one unlikely, but the message is ACT #ActionCountersTerrorism. Rovers safety officer Sam Ramsdan said:
AD-105x148-Football Foundation.indd 1
"We want everyone to enjoy today’s game at the Keepmoat Stadium but if you see anything that causes you concern, tell a steward or staff member. Please do not worry that you might be wasting our time. "The stewards are here to help keep us all safe so please be patient and cooperate with their instructions. When it comes to security it has to be a team effort and we are all players." Here's a quick reminder of what you can do to help keep yourself and others safe: • Arrive early, allowing more time for security checks • Minimise what you carry, fewer bag searches will speed up entry to the ground
• Be vigilant at all times and if you see anything suspicious, tell a steward right away • If you see anything that could pose an immediate threat to safety, call 999 • In an emergency, listen to the public address instructions and follow them • If told to evacuate, do so immediately, do not wait around to film events on your mobile • Move right away from the stadium as quickly as possible for your safety and to allow clear access for any emergency vehicles • Once you are safe, follow the local police force on Twitter for updates To find out more, visit gov.uk/ACT or @TerrorismPolice

SUPPORTER LIAISON OFFICER DEAN MEDCALF GOOD AFTERNOON LADIES AND GENTLEMEN AND A WARM WELCOME TO THE KEEPMOAT STADIUM, PLUS A WARM WELCOME TO THE VISITING FANS FROM SHREWSBURY TOWN. I would like to thank all the Rovers fans who made the recent journeys to Scunthorpe United and Burton Albion. There were two great turnouts and another two fantastic atmospheres created by the Rovers fans. If you attended our first home game of the season you will have noticed the new fans park that was located outside the Belle Vue Bar. Following on from recent feedback the club and I have received from supporters, the club has been working hard to help improve the matchday experience for fans and also improve the atmosphere and pre-match entertainment in the Belle Vue Bar. You will have noticed the Greek food van that was in attendance, the club will be looking to bring even more food options to the stadium over the coming months. The club is looking to bring more ‘streetfood’ in for the coming matches to offer a wider range. Many of you may have also noticed that there were two beer pumps located outside the Belle Vue Bar. From the feedback we received recently, people were not happy with the length of the queues in the bar and therefore the club was looking to offer more kiosks to cut down on waiting time. Also introduced was the staging area, this will be used by local
THE NEW FANS PARK OUTSIDE THE BELLE VUE BAR
music artists to entertain the fans in attendance. The club will also use the stage to conduct interviews with current and former Rovers players. Glynn Snodin took to the stage prior to the Wycombe game to answer questions on his time at the Rovers and to give his thought on the matchday squad. The Fans Park was very well supported on the debut and I have already received some fantastic feedback on the imitative. If anyone has any feedback or ideas on how the park can be improved going
forward then please get in touch. Please come down to the stadium and support this terrific new initiative by the club. As always if you have any questions then please contact me on the usual SLO social media accounts, @SLO_DRFC on twitter, DRFC SLO on Facebook or email me at dean. medcalf@clubdoncaster.co.uk. I hope you all enjoy today’s game. Rovers Till I Die Dean Medcalf Supporter Liaison Officer

SUPPORTERS CLUB PAUL MAYFIELD
GOOD AFTERNOON, AND A WARM WELCOME BACK TO THE KEEPMOAT STADIUM FOR TONIGHT’S HOME GAME WITH LAST SEASON’S SURPRISE PACKAGE SHREWSBURY TOWN, THEY HAD A FANTASTIC SEASON, JUST FALLING AT THE LAST HURDLE AGAINST ROTHERHAM UNITED AT WEMBLEY.
We had two close matches with them last season. We hope the Shrews fans enjoy their matchday experience today and have a safe trip home. We have got off to a fantastic start to the season, winning our first two league games, and then winning away at Scunthorpe in the Carabao Cup where the scoreline did not do us justice. Can I ask supporters not to block the aisle at away games as it spoils the view for your fellow fans. Thanks to the fans for backing the Supporters Club coaches in the three away games so far. Please can I ask for fans to only ring or text after 6pm at night and not to contact through other media sources so bookings are kept together. We thank Grant McCann and Gavin Baldwin for attending the Main and North Branch supporters club’s
AGMs, which were well attended and informative. We would also like to thank Davina Skinn for doing a fantastic job as Supporters Club secretary for the past eight or so years and we welcome Melanie Sheppard. The Retford Supporters Branch are holding their AGM at Retford United’s Cannon Park Ground on Leverton Road, Retford DN22 6QF on Thursday September 13 2018 at 7.30pm, Grant and Gavin have said they will attend. All fans welcome and a free buffet will be available. Bus times for away trips are listed on the next page. You can join on the buses or at the Supporters Club shop on match days, or download on the Supporters Club website. Our North branch also run coaches from Askern, Carcroft, A19 corridor,
you can contact them on 07780316923 for more details. For coach bookings call Paul on 07961727769 or Len on 01302 817347 If you need programmes or football memorabilia, call at the Supporters Club shop situated in the Club Doncaster Academy which is open on matchdays only. The new fan park opened with a bang against Wycombe with live music, Glynn Snodin doing a Q & A session and Greek food - credit to the club for the initiative, long may it continue, and thanks for your support Let’s get behind the lads all season Thanks for your support Rovers Till We Die Paul Mayfield

FOUNDATION UP
A group of NCS Doncaster participants have helped transform a local Doncaster boxing gym as part of their social action project. Using paint supplied by Club Doncaster Foundation’s Fit Rovers project, and decorator Alan Bell, the group have given a new lease of life to Lindholme Community Gym in Hatfield Woodhouse. The work will hopefully attract new customers and saves the business a significant amount of time and money. NCS project leader Lauren Cuttell said: “I can’t fault the enthusiasm of this group, they have really got stuck into painting the gym and even after one day, you can see what a difference it is making. “We spent much of the second week of the NCS programme

planning the social action project and the young people made all the arrangements themselves, so I’m very proud of their hard work. "We will also be raising money for the gym's charity, 'The Spirit of Freedom Project' on Thursday, as we cycle 11 miles from the gym back to our base at the Keepmoat Stadium. We have borrowed bikes for all the group free of charge through Club Doncaster Foundation's bike library and hope that it will be as successful as the painting." Fit Rovers course facilitator Nick Gillott added: “We are delighted to cover the cost of the paint with the help of Alan, it’s such a great social action idea and one that’s close to home. “Jimmy delivers a mental health workshop on one of the weeks in our free men’s health programme, Fit Rovers, so it’s fantastic that we
can give something back through the NCS programme.” The project has sparked the interest of local stores and the media, with local store B&M offering a contribution towards the cost of the paint. It is just one of the many community projects that have been delivered across the summer by almost 700 young people from Doncaster, all on their NCS journey. NCS is a three-week programme facilitated by Club Doncaster Foundation, allowing young people the chance to explore the Lake District, learn new workplace skills and take a lead on an exciting community project. For more information about NCS or Fit Rovers, visit the website at https://clubdoncasterfoundation. co.uk or contact the team on 01302 764663.
DATE Fit Rovers participant Dean Leggott travelled to Wembley for the 2018 Community Shield at the weekend, courtesy of the Fit Rovers team. After winning the Sheffield & Hallamshire CFA Community Project of the Year for 2018, the Fit Rovers programme were gifted two tickets to see Chelsea play Manchester City and decided to offer them out to the participants in a competition to win them. Winner Dean was delighted to bag the prize and took his son James to experience City’s 2-0 masterclass at the home of football. Dean thanked the team on social media for the fantastic opportunity for him and his son, and kept a video diary of their day. Nick Gillott, Fit Rovers course facilitator, said: “It was the participants themselves who nominated Fit Rovers for the award, so it was only right to thank them by offering one lucky winner the tickets.
“We’re very grateful that we have such a fantastic set of men to work with, they make our jobs a lot easier!” The competition to win the tickets doubled up as the announcement of Fit Rovers ambassador for the 2018/19 season, Matty Blair, who will be taking a more prominent role mentoring the participants this season. The video showed a blurred out player saying “Fit Rovers” and the participants had to guess who it was, and were then surprised with the news that the Doncaster Rovers midfielder would be mentoring them this season. The free health course at the Keepmoat Stadium boasts an 80 per cent retention rate, with an average weight loss per participant of 3.6kg and a waist circumference loss of 1.9 inches. For more information about the Fit Rovers project and how to get involved in the next course starting in October, contact the team on 01302 76466.
